They only announce the places 1-9, so I am somewhere in place 10-17

3 hours later…
15:38
hi Kim, long time, no see.
@Hohmannfan that is still quite good, of course. And you qualified for how many of these? There are 3 i know of, but i think you mentioned another
@MyOtherHead Hi MOH :)
how are things with you?
I've been a little too busy to hangout on stackexchange. I've been developing a portable device, as well as a business plan to bring it to fruition, much to my chagrin, SINCE I REALLY SHOULD BE STUDYING. :-)
heheheheh. thank you for saying that lasta bit. You know how to make me feel better :D
so, what kind of portable device?
A portable guitar practice amplifier
guitar practice amplifier? you mean something really so you can hear yourself?
15:45
fits into a backpack but has a lot of punch if you want it. Funny thing is, I don't play the guitar. :-) Though I do play piano
amplifiers need to be specialized for different instruments?
I've been concentrating a lot on the battery management system, to increase battery life.
ah - that sounds like it would be a real selling point, alright.
Yes, different instruments have different frequency responses.
is that a quality issue? because my guess is that you could make something generic, couldn't you? but maybe it wouldn't sound very good?
15:50
Hello @MyOtherHead
clearly i don't play any instrument... but also, thinking, i suppose the only instruments that people use amplifiers with are guitars and electric keyboards
and maybe i'm wrong about the keyboards...
I've had someone suggest to me to make a design for violin buskers, for her daughters. But the information on the violin freq response I've found to date seems a bit ambiguous . Hi @Hohmannfan, how are your studies going? I only had time for a quick squizz at the previous conversations before @kimholder came on the line
there should be more violin buskers in the world, all right
It's an instrument that brings out the best nature of people.
Hoh has been writing national exams that are for the very best students in the country, it is an annual competition
15:55
@MyOtherHead "Should be studying" is true for both of us :) But yeah, things are ok.
yesterday he wrote one for physics, a week or so ago it was programming, and a week or so before that it was math
especially it they're playing Bach. A bit of Bach in the morning always clears away the cobwebs, eg Piano Concerto No.1 in c minor.
Music, what is that?
it is a pattern of sonic frequencies that causes an emotional response in humans.
:P
Ah, I see.
15:57
usually...
@MyOtherHead i put it on to see what you mean. Glenn Gould.
i could use something like that :]
Hoh plays trumpet, but he is really about the patterns in the music. not the feeling of it.
I don't get music. Still fun though.
For @Hohmannfan, in my ancestor's country, there is a old, old saying that those that stayed behind in the settlement used to say to the hunter's going off to hunt "No fur, and no feather". To which the hunters replied "Go to the devil". It's English equivalent in the realm of the theatre world is "Break a leg."
I am curious, what country is this from?
@kimholder, make sure your amp is turned up to "11"
@Hohmannfan, Ukraine
a ukrainian company might build a spaceport in canada - hoh let me know about it. your people build good rockets. :)
16:07
I have a lot of time for Glen Gould. Got several of his albums.
i searched for that concerto and a copy of a version by him popped up on youtube :P
i don't listen to much classical usually.
now i'm making tea so i can listen to it properly
Traaaaaaain
The plants for building all the Soviet ICBMs and rockets were located in Dnipropetrovsk, more or less in the middle of Ukraine. Yeah, @Kim, I heard on last Sundays Space Show - listened to it just 2-3 hours ago.
@Hohmannfan are you boarding to go back to... uh... Trodheim? am i close?
@MyOtherHead David Cc'ed me an email he got from the company afterwards. They were annoyed that we apparently described them as Russian.
I don't recall doing that, we talked about Russian and Ukrainian rockets being better in cold weather, but i apologized as i can totally understand why that would get under their skin.
@kimholder Just an 'n' missing, well done.
16:12
@kimholder, but the real master performances of that concerto are by Sviatoslav Richter, who also was born in Ukraine of German parentage.
@Hohmannfan :)
@MyOtherHead i'll have to look for it too. it can be interesting to do a comparison. and maybe it would help me work to have something like that in the background. usually i can't put on music because i find it too distracting.
I can't talk - I put an apostrophe where it wasn't supposed to go, and it missed my proofreader's eagle eye.
There's quite a few Richter vids available. Enjoy!!
If you like the human voice, there is also BWV 78. That makes me soar.
Pity it's so short
How come I've got "1271" under my emoji?
there's an emoji?
@MyOtherHead there isn't much vocal stuff in classical i've found. I like Pavane.
Sorry, I meant my icon design, or whatever it's called. I have music playing softly when I'm working, tho there are times I turn to silence when I'm proofreading when the community newspaper I volunteer for is producing out a new issue.
oh - that is the points you have on all SE sites
i don't know why they put that there, i think it sort of sends the wrong message, but they do.
16:24
Haven't listened to Pavane yet. Lot's of composers creations still to be discovered.
i just stumbled across it one day. i really have very little classical music.
@kimholder "The number that appears when you talk to much" :P
Shows you how much work I've put into SE, or lack of it, after some 18 months since enrolment. :-)
one becomes busy :)
i deliberately went on a mission to acquire points on SX, because i calculated it would be helpful to me to have a profile in this community.
life goes on, the wheels of commerce and grand accomplishment grind on.
16:29
@Hohmannfan if it was for messages written, though, i'd be over 20k :P
We've got a 2-day "CubeSat Innovation Workshop" at Uni of NSW (UNSW) coming up, and also the NASA Space Apps Challenge in the second half of April. I've managed to get permission for a 5 min presentation on PongSats and MiniCubes.
oh, that sounds really cool. :] but, 5 min though? how can a person give a meaningful presentation in only 5 minutes?
My idea for the NASA Space Apps is for a biological digestive system to process ore in space, though I don't think it will fly, as most of the contestants are practised in software engineering. Earlier this month I went to Melbourne for 6 days for the Australian International Aerospace Congress - 2 days in Melbourne, and 2 days at the Avalon Defense and Aerospace Airshow, with morning presentations, and gawking at the lovely boy's toys the rest of the day. ;-)
i ran across something with a bit of that concept a few days ago... i think it was using cyanobacteria
i wanted to look into it more, as it would sure be super useful if that was viable enough to present as one of the technologies in Moonwards.
are you thinking of something like that, or is it different?
I didn't apply to present during the presentations submissions period, nor was I invited to present, but I emailed the organisers last week, and proposed 5 mins to best get my chance. I really want to just inform them about PongSats and MiniCubes. Also I'm not a uni student, just a voc college student, so I didn't want to push it in such august company.
16:42
it is a good sign that they are flexible. I think if you have done proper research and can defend your concept, they won't overlook you.
I didn't originate the idea. I read it about the concept in the ?Dark Knights Trilogy by Iain F Hamilton. He uses the concept in his "live' cities in space.
ah. i'm sure systems with elements like that are possible. i plan to return to the cyanobacteria work once i've looked after a few other things
With only 5 mins, it means I can't talk myself into corner, nor talk too much about JP Aerospace's line of business, which some in the audience may see as slightly dubious.
let me see if i can find it...
I should have written "... JP Aerospace's main line of research..."
16:50
not a big jp aerospace fan, i must admit
that article looks good. i'm not going to find what i ran across, in fact i have a feeling it was a snippet in a video. but it was work at NASA.
i'm afraid i should go. i have some writing to do that i'm going to have to focus on completely.
and then i have some reading to do that is even worse.
All the best. Way past my bedtime as well.
thanks for visiting. it's been a while.
Likewise, good to see you and @Hohmannfan.
Good night, @MyOtherHead
17:15
Good night @Hohmannfan, don't spend too much time with the fleshpots of Trondheim till after your exams. :-)
