@cmw Well done.
I don't get the word "Ephorus" in the shared text: do you?

Is there an established latin translation of "Love thyself"? I googled and didn't immediately see an obvious existing translation. I would have expected one, but maybe I just did a poor search.

@Cerberus No, not yet, sorry, I'll get to it soon!

@cmw Don't worry, it isn't necessary!
Was just wondering.

It's election season. Time for some ambitio!

Q: Latin SE election is coming. Do you want to become a moderator?

Joonas IlmavirtaThe community team is considering running a graduation election on our site. A graduation election would have four moderator positions available, and current moderators would need to nominate themselves and win in order to keep their status. The election would not increase the total number of mod...

@JoonasIlmavirta yay!
@Adam I thought you might be interested. :)
Haha

Everyone on the moderation team has my vote in the upcoming election, but I will still throw my hat in the ring in case someone decides to not run.
@Adam I don't know if everyone will run, but I imagine so. Whichever way it goes, I'd be happy to see your hat in the ring.
Do you want to post something in the meta question?
@JoonasIlmavirta Should I? I wasn't sure how we were handling nominations this time around.
@Adam Good!
@Adam Yes, you should. Perhaps my phrasing in the meta post was less than optimal. There are no formal nominations yet, but announcements of interest are of use. If nobody shows interest, there will be no election.
If you prefer an anonymous thing like last time, we can do that too.
Right, I'm curious whether people prefer onymous or an-.

One option is to add a CW answer with a list of people who think they are likely to run. Then anyone can edit themselves in. That way votes will not be personal at all.
@Cerberus So am I!
Now that I think of it, we don't have a timeline for when we should hear from sufficiently many candidates. Perhaps within two weeks or so?
@JoonasIlmavirta Yeah I think we had that when we were appointed?
Or maybe not.
I don't remember.
@Cerberus Then every nomination got a separate answer. Now I was planning to lump them all together, so that people couldn't vote in any way on individual candidates at this stage.
Ah, OK.
Hmm... One user seems to be unhappy with how quickly the election is coming. I agree it's pretty quick, but this was preliminarily announced at graduation.
How do you all feel about this? Of course we can ask for postponement. Opinions either way are welcome in the comments!
I like the idea of a single post with a list of candidates; sometimes showing votes in advance can influence people (although I don't think it will really change anything with this particular election).

I'm not sure what to make of the fact that this user seems to have no questions or answers on our site, though.
@Adam We should do that, then. The initial version should include a couple of names so that there's no voting at first either.
I'm planning to run and so is @Adam. I assume @Cerberus too?
@JoonasIlmavirta I'm not really sure what more time would add?
I mean, 3+ weeks should be enough for people to know?
@Adam Ok cool.
@JoonasIlmavirta Yeah I will.
@Cerberus More time for people to think whether they want to run? Or more time to plan their lives so that they do nominate themselves in time? More time for people to see the election at all? I don't think any of these are very important, as it doesn't really take all that long to decide whether one should run (and the ones most likely to make nice mods have already given it a thought) and the official election notice will come by email too.
@Cerberus I agree. And the process takes a couple of weeks in total, I think, with the different stages.
@JoonasIlmavirta All of the above.
Yeah, I don't really what more weeks would add.
The only real benefit to longer time is it gives someone more time to notice, but if it takes you three or more weeks to notice then you're probably not invested enough to nominate yourself anyway.
@Adam Good point! I really don't trust people becoming active upon moderatorship. A moderator should be a reasonably active user to begin with, and moderation wouldn't require an increase in activity.
If either of you wants to make the point in a comment, that'd be good. I don't want it to have only my voice.
I posted the CW answer with our three names for a starter.
22:12
I left a comment.
@Adam Yeah exactly.
