Yay bed

So, @MBraedley, any suggestions on business to look for work in the IT field in/around Halifax? I'm graduating at the end of August, so I'm starting to look around to see what business/jobs are available.

@Wipqozn You want to do sysadmin stuff? Or would you rather programming?

@MBraedley Programming.

@Wipqozn We're (MDA) hiring right now, but I've already recommended a friend for the position, and it needs to be filled in a few weeks. We might have something else come September time frame. Lockheed Martin is always hiring. There's also a number of startups in the area.

We've had something of a contentious history regarding these sorts of history questions. Personally, I think they are terrible examples of bikeshedding, and have no place here. Others will, I'm sure, come along and yell at me about what an elitist jerk I am and how completely wrong I am in short order, however. — LessPop_MoreFizz 10 mins ago

There's a number of places that do control systems stuff, but they look for computer/electrical engineers.

@MBraedley Yeah, I've had my eye on a few places already, including Lockheed. GenieKnows was where I did Co-op, and I know I could easily get a job there if they're hiring. Just not sure if I want to go back. Good place to work, but I'd prefer somewhere with a larger tech team. I've also been looking at T4G, and SImplyCast.

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz I agree with you, if it helps.

@MBraedley To be honest I don't think I'd be qualified for the position of a System Administrator. I do have some experience with the it, but not enough that I'd feel comfortable doing a position full time.

Q: First example of rising water/lava?

B. ElliottWhat was the first example in gaming history of a level (in a platformer) where the player begins at the bottom of the stage, and must move upwards to avoid a steadily rising dangerous plane of death (whether in the form of rising lava, water, or such), until reaching an endpoint above their orig...

@MBraedley: What kind of IT work is done at MDA?
I've never heard of them until now.

11:11 PM
@Wipqozn We do systems engineering is the short answer. Ever heard of the Canadarm 2? Yeah, that was us. (Although not out of the Halifax office, and I wasn't involved.)

@MBraedley That's pretty nifty.

The Halifax office is primarily focused in naval C2I systems

Wow
Question closed two hours ago as a duplicate

@MBraedley I think I may have applied for a co-op job there once... something to do with underwater robots.

points to an answer that is so out of date It does NOT even mention the two mobs asked about in the original question

Q: How can I protect my home against the creatures of the Nether?

ChocoI currently live in a Nether Ruin. My not-so-sweet home always seems to be overrun by Zombie Pigmen, Wither Skeletons, and Blazes. What am I supposed to do to keep them away?

45
A: How can I keep monsters out of my nether regions?

Raven DreamerAs of the Halloween Update: You don't have to worry about Zombie Pigmen (they are, after all, neutral mobs until provoked). Ghasts can safely be kept out by restricting yourself to not using any of the 4x4x4 (or larger!) areas that they need to spawn. Keep a tight ceiling, and you'll be fine.

@James I have no idea what the question is, but outdated / wrong answers does not mean a question isn't a duplicate. IT means the answer needs to be updated.
Yes, this is a duplicate. The answers just need to be updated on the other question.

@Wipqozn Yeah you would think since it was his answer he would have known it was out of date and updated it ;P

@James RavenDreamer is a mod. He feeds off the misery of others.

@James His answer is up to date. Mostly.

11:17 PM
@MBraedley Isnt the halloween update like 2-3 years old now? And how does that answer help with Wither's and Blazes as asked in the newer question?

@James The only real problem is ghasts. As you pointed out, blazes and wither skellies only spawn in fortresses.

@MBraedley The person is settling in a nether fort?

A: Please don't misuse the voting system

Canada now accepting blood donations from gay men, but only if they've been celebate for five years: http://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/canada-now-accepting-blood-donations-from-gay-men-with-conditions-1.1291812 @CTVNews

user15026
.....not good enough. Also, they mispelled celibate.

11:21 PM
Says the guy making the case that down votes a huge deal and using them destroys the qualiy of the site...

@James That's their stupid idea. If you're so up in arms about it, either edit @RavenDreamer's answer, or offer a bounty. That's the proper course of action.

@AshleyNunn Don't you see? They're being slightly less bigoted now!
If you were to rate them on a 100 point scale, that would knock them down at least a 1/4 of a point.
that's,like, almost half a point!

user15026
@Wipqozn Maybe 1/2.

@MBraedley Ah yes... A person comes asking a question about game mechanics they want to try and work with and they are stupid... Yay! We are such a welcoming community :P

I didn't say they're stupid, I said they had a stupid idea. Big difference.
@AshleyNunn I saw the headlines, but somehow missed the 5 years celibacy clause.

11:25 PM
@AshleyNunn: It just occurred to me that the only group this doesn't discriminate against are straight females. Since it's men only it's technically sexist in addition to being homophobic.

user15026
@MBraedley Yep. Because we couldn't just you know, not be discriminatory jerkfaces

user15026
@Wipqozn Lesbians and bisexual women are okay, no? As are straight males? Been a while since I donated, so I might have forgotten the rules

user15026
Fuck, seriously, whats up with the stars

Is someone on mobile having trouble hitting the flag or reply button?

user20683
@LiQuid stop that

11:28 PM
ha

@AshleyNunn Since they're only targeting gay men, they're saying that your homosexual life style gives you a higher chance of aids if you're male. For some reason. Bisexual and homosexual women are also excluded since it says that them being homosexual increases their chance of aids, but not enough as men to justifiy being excluded.

user15026
@Wipqozn I've never had my sexuality questioned.

@AshleyNunn Yeah, straight and gay women and straight men have always been okay.
Gay men have historically been restricted from giving blood because of a perceived higher risk of bloodborne illness. (read: HIV).

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz Yeah, I know that, I was more curious about the rest of it.

11:29 PM
@AshleyNunn IIRC women who have had sex with a male who qualifies as gay aren't allowed either

user15026
@Ullallulloo Nice.

@Wipqozn The percieved increased risk factor doesn't apply to women - or shouldn't, as it's specific to the... ahem... mechanics, of male homosexual relationships.

user15026
@tugs Yeah, but that has nothing to do with my personal sexuality

@AshleyNunn I'm not sure what that means.

user20683
with gay men it makes statistical sense even if it isn't so nice

user15026
11:30 PM
@Wipqozn When I have given blood they aren't concerned who I sleep with beyond me sleeping with a man who has had sex with a man

user15026
@WorldEngineer with the sheer amount of testing they do, I don't agree

@LessPop_MoreFizz I know, that's why I'm saying it's offensive to straight males as well. Apparantly something about us makes us a higher target for aids when we have relationships with other males.

@AshleyNunn It does mean that you are qualified as straight

Okay, I don't think I'm quite making myself clear.

user15026
@tugs No, it means they don't ask because I present as female.

11:31 PM
@AshleyNunn You might be forgetting the tainted blood scandal from years ago...

Let me put it this way.

user15026
@MBraedley Trust me, I can't forget that, as I have been through SO much testing. Also, that was 30 years ago

This is both a gay rights issue and a mens right issue. It's not a women's right issue.

@WorldEngineer I don't even know if it makes statistical sense anymore. The demographics of the AIDS epidemic have shifted considerably in the past 20 years, but the old stereotypes tend to remain.

That's kind f what I was trying to say.

user15026
11:31 PM
@Wipqozn Truth.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Jelly Interchange Format?

So that only group that wouldn't be counted would be straight women, since gay/lesbian women would be covered by the fact it's a gay rights issue, whereas straight women are not.

Holy cow.
@AshleyNunn 13SB code?

user20683
I'm still gonna use a hard "g".

user20683
11:34 PM
I don't give a damn if it's "wrong", I say gigawatt, not jigawatt.

are we talking aboot jraphics interchange format?

@WorldEngineer It's actually pronounced gijawatt.

user20683
@Wipqozn I hate English sometimes

user20683
also is your handle pronounced "whip-ko-zen?"

"Good Lord, have you never heard of downloads?" - Winston Churchill

user20683
@Yawus I want to see Winston Churchill and Teddy Roosevelt take on the Master

Why the flag? That's quite hilarious.

user43095
@PeterTamaroff Yes, but is it allowed on SE?

11:55 PM
@jeffreylin_ Why not?

/irony

@jeffreylin_ Are you offended by someone banging someone else against a table?

user43095
This site is an extension of The Stack Exchange Network, so discussion should more or less revolve around the same topics you'd find at The Stack Exchange Network — but in an interactive, less strictly Q&A focused way. Do have fun, but please keep it professional and always be respectful of your fellow community members. How professional do you think that was?

@PeterTamaroff who are you to come into another site's room and question what they do or do not find offensive?

user43095
Either way, I didn't flag that. So no blue mods this time?

11:57 PM
@Fluttershy I don't need a honorary title to chit chat.

I wish I could star fluttershy

But well, seems like you're the serious kind.

@PeterTamaroff Wait, Wait, wait wait... are you actually saying that a joke about beating women isn't offensive?

@Wipqozn Beating women?

No peter but you do have to respect house rules

11:58 PM

@jeffreylin_ Are you offended by someone banging someone else against a table?

You're being funny now, right? =)
@Wipqozn I used an euphemism, so as not further "offend" anyone.

@PeterTamaroff No, you're free to chat. But don't tell other rooms what they can and can't flag.

Oh he's saying beating women is ok ?
