Isn't it one game with two modes?

@fbueckert Even though it's a part of the same game?
@Sconibulus Yes

@fbueckert 5C~ BUT we doesn't have preparation for cold or hot weather. When i was studying French, all my teachers that were from France or Canada said that was the first time that they felt so much cold. (Our cloths are not as hot as yours too.)

@SaintWacko Well, it's sort of like a platform tag, if we use them both.

@fbueckert So what would you suggest?

@SaintWacko for regular fortress mode.

5:08 PM
I don't think they should have the same tag, because knowledge of one mode does not at all imply knowledge of the other

And for adventure mode.

@fbueckert It's part of Dwarf Fortress, but pretty separate from Fortress mode.

@fbueckert ...Isn't that how it is?

@SaintWacko No, he's saying get rid of the normal df tag on adventure.

@SaintWacko I direct you to some recent re-tagging work:
4
Q: What attributes are useful for adventurer combat?

C. RossBeginning with 0.31.17 you must choose attributes in addition to skills. Which abilities are useful to combat, both melee and ranged?

5:08 PM
@Ullallulloo OH

@SaintWacko He means that anything with one tag should not have the other.

@GraceNote Unless it addresses both.
Which it very well might, I dunno.

@fbueckert Sorry, I thought you meant destroy completely
Yeah, it doesn't really need both tags

@SaintWacko That was the first thought.

Although it might be good to specify that the normal tag is for fortress mode

5:10 PM
I haven't really played adventure mode at all, though, so I didn't know it was that different.

Although I don't think that is good
@fbueckert I haven't either, but I know it's completely different
In adventure mode, you're playing a roguelike

@fbueckert It's an entirely different genre, in a sense

A very complex roguelike

@YiJiang'sEvilClone So it makes sense to separate the two out then, I think.

@fbueckert Yes, exactly

Maybe to encompass questions that address both?
Doesn't sound quite right, though.

In the rare question that affects both, why wouldn't we just use both tags?

@GraceNote Works for me.
I'm just borrowing trouble prior to it hitting us.

Your future borrowing skills are low level. You should train them more.

@OrigamiRobot BoI is eeeeevil.

@Powerlord If by eeeeevil you mean insanely fun.

C. RossDo we need a separate tag for Dwarf Fortress adventure mode? Obviously, it's pretty different play experience with different questions than fortress mode. The tag dwarf-fortress-adventure already exists, but isn't used. Should I go slap it on all the applicable questions?

@fbueckert required external input

Looks like this has been discussed a couple years ago.

Ahaha

I can make a meta for an updated rule, though, see if people agree.

5:19 PM
2010, tagging policy has changed quite a bit since then.

@GraceNote So a new meta is a good thing, then.

I think it definitely needs a separate tag
I don't know whether it needs both, though

@fbueckert Phrase it as revisiting the subject of the previous question, in light of changes in how we tag things.

Huh

@SaintWacko As an addendum to my previous suggestion, I'd say anything that pertains to world generation and such should just be tagged with the base tag.

5:21 PM
Just had a really interesting DF embark with an underwater volcano
@fbueckert Agreed

@Powerlord Why so much hate for BoI?

The game started with the lake frozen around the volcano, but as soon as spring hit the lake thawed and began pouring in

@OrigamiRobot I can think of a number of reasons to dislike the game.

Eventually sealed off the volcano with obsidian

@OrigamiRobot The game (like many other randomly generated dungeons) has no concept of balance.

5:22 PM
I agree

Not only that, but it's a bad Zelda 1 parody.

The imbalance makes it fun.

Games that my progress or success is randomly decided upon

Actually, there was a discussion a couple months ago in here about roguelikes and their random generation, about "learning through dying and dying and dying" and such.

It's not supposed to rely on skill. Heck, it still needs skill to aim properly.

@GraceNote Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup!

I managed like 1 win in Nethack after about 200 games

since then I'm like 0-15

@Sconibulus Actually, I guess it was just 165 online games
I used to play offline

I have 4 Nethack victories under my belt, in... probably 70 some tries.

But online is more fun

5:25 PM
no, haven't done DCSS yet

@Sconibulus What country are you in?

U.S.

@Sconibulus crawl.s-z.org

one of my wins was on nethack.alt.org, the other was offline while in the car
web, telnet, what?

But I'm not surprised at the dislike for this kind of system, especially one with the level of chance that I hear Binding of Isaac is.
Nor am I surprised at how easy it is to be offput by the concept of a game deciding that, literally, you're not going to have a chance to win, not out of your own performance but by literally just deciding you aren't going to win. It can be pretty bothersome to the core understanding of how one approaches a game.

5:27 PM
I also came really close to winning a couple days later on nao, but messed up my wish-wresting copypasta somewhere around Oracle on the way back up
