@Memor-X see above comment. While those bunch are indeed a scurvy mob of idiots, I do wonder WHY those elements were added in the games in the first place.

To be blunt: I do not believe the devs were that interested in diversity portrayal, nor into inclusivity. I always got the felling that everything - Ellie new companion, Joel death-by-golf-club, the mud-fight girl battle at the end etc- was purposely made to stir up flame wars in the fandom because ....

.... and to be fair I am also pretty sure I am right because... I don't see much reason otherwise to keep telling the fans that "many those who loved the original game will hate the sequel" while the game wasn't even released.

They knew many fans would hate seeing Joel die like an idiot after the first game, they knew many fans would hate seeing Ellie being so dumb to not get WHY Joel tried to save her (really, you are surprised that he may see you as his daughter after what he lived thru??) etc etc etc. And they were happy with it because every rant they stirred up meant more people talking about the game.

@SPArcheon if you're referring to just the second game alone. i don't think Dina was made just to rile up fans

fans of the first game who played Left Behind probably weren't surprised that the trailers were showing off Dina and Ellie being together since it was established in the DLC that at the very least Ellie was into girls

@Memor-X not just the second game, the whole progression, seems like they kept adding things to cause reactions in the userbase.

I repeat, when I see a company giggle while saying "Fans will hate the new game" either a) they are stupid or b) they are planning something.

i don't that you would be "upgrading" Sonic Origins, you're just going to be left with a dud game because SEGA will stop paying for the verification servers and force everyone to re-buy the new version

They already made the bastard move of releasing Sonic Origin while pulling off the old versions of the games. Now apparently they are going to release an enhanced version of Origin... after saying that would NOT be a thing.

@SPArcheon anjd upgrade would be like what Death Stranding did. if you have the original you just pay like $10 for the new version. Sonic Origin Plus will be a new game you'll likely need to pay for in full

meanwhile all those who brought Sonic Origin will find their copies will no longer work because the Verification Server get shut down or repurposed for just the new game

a) if I look at her role in GOT (and I don't know anything about Games Of Thrones, never liked it), her character gives a distinct "Spoiled rich girl that eats brioches and thinks the villagers should do the same". Considering that most fans will also know her for that role, that ends up in "They put rich spoiled girl to play as Ellie"

b) MAKE UP EXISTS. Should I remember you Mrs. Doubtfire? Sorry Ramsey, you get my sympathy on the hate post part, but... for the money you are getting for having fun in a movie (while I instead get to stress myself on SharePoint) you can spend 4-5 hours on make-up before shooting.

at the very least, do something for her hair style.

@Fredy31 tbf, the case of Ellie's appearance is a bit messed up, imo. In the first game, they very clearly modeled Ellie after Elliot Page (and I think there's dev commentary along these lines) and they didn't contact Elliot about this at all.

It's kinda hard to put into words, but I'm not saying that they should've cast Page for the role, rather the whole hubbub about how Ramsey doesn't look like Ellie kinda misses the mark for me given "how Ellie looks" in the first place is kinda problematic.

@Fredy31 Even still, they should contacted Page even if it was just a five-minute "oh, by the way, we're making a game and we wanted one of the major characters to look kinda like you" phone call.

And using someone 'close to' likeness would mean you need to give Page royalties

And the phone call makes it impossible to deny

I get why they did it for legal (and ultimately financial reasons), I don't like it though.

Ultimately, it's not a legal decision. It's a "we want more money" reason. They don't have to pay royalties to Page, they just didn't want to risk Page asking for royalties.

Because they totally could have entered into a contract where Page let them use his image for this specific game in return for not asking royalties.

But there would have to have been a conversation and negotiation and Naughty Dog didn't want to risk their money over ethical concerns.

Of course, that last bit is an allegation not their real thought process.

@Yuuki I guess that Ellie being both in name and in look very similar to is still better that what he, at the time still Ellen, gave his face for Beyond: Two Soul.
