@badp I'm in luck, I always get a "voorstel voor vereenvoudigde aangifte". That's something the Belgian Belastingsdienst does for over half of Belgians, where they give you a proposal based on the data they have and if you agree with it you don't need to do anything

same concept in NL

if you have a single employer, no major changes in your status and no significant deductibles, you can use the prefilled data

and after two years of that they stop asking you, you can still file something but it's not required

the 20% of data the Belastingdienst couldn't figure out on their own swung me from getting 1400 euros back to paying 300 euros

@MiG it's the colloquial term for employee retention schemes where you get rewards for staying with the company

for example, every year you get some stock that will only vest (= actually become yours) if you're still working with that company by a future date

e.g. in 2022 I got the stock I was promised in 2019, 2020 and 2021 for still being in the company

in other words, if I were to quit now I'd forfeit some of the stock I was promised in 2020, most of the stock I was promised in 2021, all of the stock that was promised in 2022

the idea being you're like "damn that would be turning my back on a lot of money"

hence the name, golden handcuffs
