@Wipqozn diablo?
i heard blizzard was removing LAN functionality
@Yuuki yes
@Yuuki That doesn't matter to me, but I've heard complaints about bugs and performance.
@Wipqozn oh?
like serious issues?

1 hour later…
01:24
just going though recent uploads and saw this @Yuuki. not sure how LAN Removal effects Modders though so it might be elaborated in the video (have not seen it yet)
@Memor-X mods are only allowed on LAN games
when i see Blizzard and Modders bring angry at Blizzard, can't help but imagine another Warcraft 3
@Yuuki no mods in single player?
02:18
@Memor-X Yes, but the only way to play multiplayer with mods is tcp/ip
So now modded multiplayer is impossible

Q: How does one summon specific tropical fish variants in Bedrock Edition?

BlueTangsRockI recently was on my world trying to summon specific tropical fish variants via some commands that I found online that were shown to work for Java Edition, however if I attempt to type that same command out on my MineCraft Bedrock world, I would just get an error message. I've also tried looking ...

1 hour later…
12:26
@Elise oh i think i had read that if we buy motherboard for amd cpu, we might not upgrade it with intel cpu later.
I don't know, I read or watched some video like that
12:53
@Memor-X Wasnt there some crap in the TOS of the W3 remake that if you created a gamemode with the W3 custom game creator Blizzard had all rights to it? So basically they can't sleep on another dota
Kinda crazy if you think about it that Blizzard didn't do a DOTA standalone before everybody was doing one, with Heroes of the Storm
And they had the success with it expected of having a game come years late to the party
Just like those who are still trying to break in the BR genre years after Fortenite and Apex and PUBG have taken the space, and all players have now their BR of choice or tried it and moved on
Like UBI that announced one last E3
(Was wrong, it was E3 2020, but still, that is waaaay too late to jump in that game and think you will have as much success as Fortenite or PUBG had 4-5 years ago)
@Fredy31 yeh that's what i think about
13:56
Is it okay to discuss hardware (gpu cpu desktop for gaming) stuff here? or should i go to any other suitable rooms?
like Root Access room in super user
I would guess that the superuser rooms will have more experts, but its not like 'oh no its off topic' here
the chatrooms are pretty much just a general chat with people who love gaming
@Fredy31 oh cool. but sometimes it becomes off topic and i only realize later when moderators point it out. so i wanted to make sure :)
Id say in the chatrooms the only thing you will be asked to not talk about would be politics.
@Fredy31 :D
But if you mean on the site itself, I do not know in terms of PC build which one is the best
14:02
?
SuperUser usually is more about how to work with your OS to do stuff
yeah so i'm not sure hardware would be on topic there
where i do think the question would fall on its face would be that, depending on what you ask, there is not always a straight right answer
@Fredy31 it's just that i'm new to ryzen processors and motherboards and especially their generations. i wanted to discuss stuff like that
So what is your question? I'm pretty sure there is someone here that might be able to answer you
but if you want to ask it on the site, make sure to ask a question that has a definite answer. If its 'What is the best Ryzen processor for the price' that is opinion based and would not get upvotes
14:06
i'm still researching and post soon :)
@Fredy31 no no. I meant chat only. If I have very detailed question, i'll post on main site
After going to review what is on the Superuser site, I would guess a PC build question might work better there
ok
@Fredy31 I wouldn't call it opinion based though. "FPS per dollar" is a fairly objective metric. The problem is that it changes every year
I'm not a big Superuser user, so I can't say for sure, but since a lot of questions talk about bios and overclocking it might work better there
@Fredy31 they don't accept it there either. The network bans shopping list questions because it generally leads to cargo cultism
14:09
but if its a pc build for gaming its kind of OK on both sides
@Fredy31 no no. my questions would be like can this gpu fit with this motherboard, or can this cpu fit with this motherboard. something like that. I mean specific questions
@Fredy31 not really. "what PC should I buy" is out of scope on both Arqade and SU
Thanks @Nzall, but yeah FPS per dollar also is dependent on what you play. Some games are better optimized for one family of processors over the other
@Nzall it sometimes fits on hardware recommendations
@Vikas Those questions are easily googleable and would be closed as "not enough research"
14:10
@Nzall yes, so i'm doing my research first
We don't close questions for not showing research
We do close shopping recommendations
@Wrigglenite no, but we expect people to do research before asking questions
good
@Nzall yeah I think you just made me realise that: A question that would be 'hey whats the best PC on the market now' would be opinion base. A question that is 'does piece A work with piece B' well, look at the manifacturing document and its probably written there if A fits with B
@Fredy31 Especially since CPU compatibility often just depends on the socket, and maybe the BIOS version. And tools like PC Part Picker can point out when there is an incompatibility issue
14:14
what about comparison questions? I'm seeing a lot of motherboards with similar names like B450 but big price differences. Even when both are same form factor
And GPU compatibility depends on which version of PCIe the mobo supports, and how big the case is

Q: Should the SE chatroom be phased out for an official Arqade Discord?

Fredy31Its a tought that I've had for a little while. The SE Chatroom seems to have built up quite a technological debt like links not unfurling or a mobile app. And it does make sense. The chatrooms of SE date of probably a good 10 years back, when Chatrooms were quite a hassle to create and moderate (...

i think it should be on topic
@Vikas Shopping recommendation, off-topic
@Vikas
Yeah its hard to say if your question would be on or off topic just with a few details
14:14
@Wrigglenite no. what if i ask what are significant differences?
and not like which one is better to buy
At the end of the day you're still asking the same thing
It's not about finding the magic words
Some questions are off-topic
@Wrigglenite so i think i can ask it on hardware recommendations
@Vikas That would also be a list request, which is also disallowed
i asked a similar question there and was well received
Yeah idk how it would work and not be a 5 minutes search. Oh part A has 500 in this category, part B has 600
14:16
ok
but that seems that it would be available directly on the manufacturers website
There are plenty of places where you can compare components like that
yes i'll first try online, then this chat room, then main sites
Correct me if I'm wrong but yeah except the stats on the manufacturer website, there would not be a major difference between using processor a instead of b
@Vikas pangoly.com/en/compare This is something I found with 5 seconds of Googling
14:17
like its not like Watchdogs will straight up not work if you have X brand of processor, even if it can run it
@Nzall Thanks. Looks useful
Or you will not be able to have Smite in LoL if you use X graphics card
@Fredy31 Games will work regardless of what CPU you're using. And games don't block features based on your hardware, apart from certain graphical features like RTX or DLSS that only work with specific cards. But there might be performance differences, even if the parts are identically specced
b450 b550 can't fit intel processors. i learnt it today @ Fredy31
@Vikas well obviously. those are AMD motherboards
Intel and AMD have completely different sockets
14:21
yeah but i didn't know this before today :D
i was thinking to buy ryzen now and intel in future, but i was wrong
@Nzall Yeah there could be small differences because some games are better optimised for x or y family of parts. But the difference should be pretty minor at the end.
@Fredy31 One thing to keep in mind is that if you're going with AMD CPU, your choice of memory becomes significant, because AMD CPUs work best with faster memory
@Vikas you can, you just need to replace your motherboard as well
And even if you stay in the same brand of CPU, you'll probably have to do that anyway
@Nzall that's what i don't want for 2-3 years at least 😜
Because both AMD and Intel change their sockets every other generation or so as well
@Nzall means?
14:23
and you can't put newer CPUs into an older socket that's not designed for it
@Nzall i think it supports both amd and nvidia gpus.
@Vikas sorry, meant CPU
@Nzall yeah, i'm aware of it.
GPUs are always compatible
3rd generation ryzen aren't that old right?
i guess 4th is latest and that's expensive
so i won't worry much if motherboard don't support 4th gneration
14:25
@Vikas 5th gen is latest
Also
🤔 well i know very less about this
when talking about Ryzen, it's better to use the series. 3rd gen is 3000 series, 4th gen is 4000 series, 5th gen is 5000 series
so it would be better to buy a motherboard which supports greater than 3rd genration?
@Nzall 3000 = 3rd generation?
Yeah
Ryzen 1000 is first gen
Uhm I doubt it
14:27
Ryzen 2000 is second gen
let me google
Ryzen ( RY-zən) is a brand of x86-64 microprocessors designed and marketed by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) for desktop, mobile, server, and embedded platforms based on the Zen microarchitecture. It consists of central processing units (CPUs) marketed for mainstream, enthusiast, server, and workstation segments and accelerated processing units (APUs) marketed for mainstream and entry-level segments and embedded systems applications. AMD officially announced a new series of processors, named "Ryzen", during its New Horizon summit on December 13, 2016 and introduced Ryzen 1000 series processors in...
Oh wait, I'm mixing up 4th and 5th gen
4th gen is 5000 series
4000 series was gen 3.5 apparently
@Nzall i guess you're right. I thought each series have their own genrations. like 3000 series will have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc.
Yeah, I think most people don't really use the generations like that. They explicitly talk about Zen 2 or Zen 3, which is the die used
so if i buy a motherboard which supports 1 to 3 generations, i can't use 4000 or 5000 series?
like 5600G?
14:29
@Vikas you need to verify if the socket is the same
the socket is the important thing
@Nzall yes, but theorectically?
since 5600G is 4th generation
there are some products which mention it supports only 1 to 3rd generation
@Vikas I think it's possible, but you need to update your BIOS before you install the new chip
so i guess we shouldn't buy if we plan 4th generation
but again, it's really dependent on the board itself
some older boards don't get the updated bios
@Nzall yeah i read about that, but it would be like compromising
and can cause performance issues
i've shortlisted all components in case i have to build. i'm just stuck on motherboard and cpu
14:33
I mean, I bought a motherboard that had to have the bios updated before it would support my Ryzen 5 3600
@Vikas Here's what I heard: normally each CPU release is combined with a chipset release, like B450 or B520 or something like that. From what I understand, the chipsets that were released along with Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series and maybe 3000 series as well don't support 5000 series, but I think those from 4000 series do
It's been great
Ah yes, the age old 'what to do with questions that can be googled' debate
Everything is googlable now, sorry to say. Do we wanna be that google result or not is the question. imo
@GnomeSlice I think it's worth trying to be that result IF there isn't yet a really good result, like if you need to read through 20 pages of forum posts
I have done that in the past and it's a waste of time for the most part
SE is clean as hell. Google results to SE pages are almost unilaterally easier to read than other sites in my experience
No harm in trying either way I don't think. Some disagree.
14:38
ryzen 5 is way too expensive than i5 🥲 i thoguht ryzen is cheaper than intel?
oh wait it depends on generation
@Vikas yeah, you need to be very careful with generations
but generally i've heard from most youtubers in india that ryzen for gaming is cheaper than intel. that's why i decided to browse ryzen
Otherwise it's like saying "Why is this Xbox One X more expensive than this PS4 Slim?" They're from different generations
@Vikas actually, it's not that simple anymore
Because CPUs these days aren't as important anymore for gaming, you don't really need an i7 or even an i5 anymore. For example, generally when you ask the PC Master Race Discord for advice on CPUs for gaming, they reply that you can do plenty with an 11th gen i3 Intel CPU, which is way cheaper than Ryzen stuff
That's why I would recommend you also ask around on Reddit and PC gaming Discords
Can this meta post be migrated to the primary meta?
@Tacoタコス Flag it as well, might get seen sooner
14:50
So in other news: I've stopped playing WoW
like, 3 weeks ago in fact
or something like that
Back when Blizzard had that toxic and tone deaf response to that California lawsuit
and honestly, I like having those hours per day back for other games
Already finished 2 games since I stopped playing and I want to keep going that way
maybe even more than 2 games, can't remember for sure
Yeah, my opinion in the Blizz thing was pretty set in stone when I saw the I think CCO of Activision tweet, the day of the lawsuit drop, an article named 'The problem with whisleblowers'
Look, if you are CCO of one of the major Video Games companies in NA, I would expect that you have a head on your shoulders, but nah, you looked at that tweet and was like 'for sure that will NOT blow the fuck up in my face'
@Fredy31 For me it was even before that, when they sent out that PR statement where they called the allegations both lies and outdated (which is it now?), implied the family of the woman who took her own life was unhappy with the lawsuit and made an absolutely astonishing direct attack on the California department, calling them bullies and saying their actions caused many California companies to leave the state. Disgusting and morally bankrupt
15:06
yeah i used to think that Riot's scandal a few years back was bad, but Riot said 'hey, yeah, we fucked up, we are gonna try to be better' and, well, I would have guessed if it didn't we would have heard a peep since 2 years ago.
Blizz went full in FAKE NEWS mode
even when slapped with evidence that is pretty much undeniable, like an employee killing herself on a business trip
@Fredy31 Yeah, even Ubisoft did a half hearted attempt at cleanup
Which is why I still play Ubisoft games
Though AC Valhalla may just be the last AC game I'll play depending on how the next one goes
Yeah the 'hearsay' defense is only vaild when its that 'hearsay'. Like one lone employee that runs a train against her ex employee with dubious evidence. Even then, don't say its outright lies. Say you are 'looking into it' and then let the investigation prove if its hearsay or not.

But fuck, the blizz thing is NOT that. Its tens of employees saying they were victims of the system, with a hundred more backing the claims. When the government steps in it's usually FUCKING BAD
and also, literally an employee killing herself while on company time, that should ring all sorts of 'oh god'
@Nzall Oh really? i3 can be good for gaming if we have a mid range gpu?
@GnomeSlice Lol it's already been asked :D
Migrated and had to flag my own question as a dupe :) great day today lol
15:24
@Wrigglenite I have now. I was aware they sent a letter, but not of the contents. For me, the main difference is that Ubisoft's initial response was night and day difference compared to Blizzard's
Oh, so PR is good enough for you
Okay
Like, when the Ubisoft scandal broke, they said they would make systemic changes, and while I do understand that the employees are not happy with the scale, scope and pace of the changes, I also understand that a company the size of Ubisoft can't rush those changes, and it'll take time for the company culture to change. 1/2
2/2 Meanwhile, Blizzard responded by initially trying to sweep it under the rug even during the investigation, and it's mostly the developers who are driving the changes forward, while Blizzard did things like hire noted anti-union lawyer group WilmerHale and put out opinion pieces where they attack whistleblowers, and generally still work against the interest of the developers
@Wrigglenite So no, it's not just "PR is good enough for me". I agree that many of the Ubisoft changes may not be adequate, but at least Ubisoft is still listening to their employees and still trying to make changes, even if employees don't agree with the speed
@Vikas oh wait, I was talking about the 11400 CPU. I thought it was an i3
but turns out it's an i5 too
😅🥲
11th gen is very expensive
the closest i can afford is 3400G but it also looks a bit expensive
@Nzall There is a major difference between 'we will try to be better' and having it go slow because Ubi is a huge ship to turn around and the approach blizz took that is 'THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM. LOOK AWAY.
@Fredy31 yep, my point exactly
And that's why I stopped playing WoW while I'm still playing Ubisoft games
15:38
But yeah, the current discussion (even if its been going on for years) of unionizing game workers should move forward
My sister's ex is a level designer in Montreal and the requirements to be at that job are STUPID
like 'oh yeah, I will not see my family for more than 1h for the next month because crunch'
and then there is loads of employees that are stuck on a gig employment, where you work a fuckton for a dev for a few months, but after that you are back on needing to find your next gig instead of simply going to a lower work charge and still getting a paycheck
For long, I wanted to work in the Video Game industry, but now I realise that I fucking dodged a bullet
@Nzall Also i was wrong. ryzen isn't cheaper. just browsed stuff on amazon and rates are somewhat same. I think they too are overpriced like gpus
in fact i5 8th gen is a bit cheaper
but i guess they were cheaper a year ago
didn't AMD cpus outclass equal price intel in almost every way?
like, AMD had a moment hwere they swapped focus from GPU to CPU and just blew intel away
Intel had single core performance for a while but not since Zen 3
15:49
I really like ryzen 3100 and its out of stock! I just found it's not expensive at all. I want to cry 🥲
3100 is quite equivalent to i5 8th gen
but price is half
aye, i got a ryzen 5three years ago for about £150, which nothing in intel even compares to
i was so obsessed with laptops 3 years ago. never thought desktops give better performance
16:30
@Elise Hi. Any idea about 3400G and 5600G? I couldn't find any side by side comparisons of their gpus. 3400G has vega 11 and 5600G has vega 7 integrated graphics. But i couldn't find any reference of their comparisons if vega 7 is better or vega 11. I'm inclined to buy any of them because I will cancel my GPU plan for now and satisfy myself with integrated one
At least its better than my current laptop
@Vikas you should look for benchmarks of the APU itself, not comparisons of the iGPUs
@Nzall 5600 CPU is definitely better, i checked cpu benchmarks
For such APUs you need to look at the entire bundle, not just at one component
but it didn't show the gaming comparisons, that we see in some cases
hang on, I got something for you
16:34
sure
That's a performance analysis of the 5600G
including FPS in many games
@Nzall Actually in last 30 minutes, I was inspired by similar articles/videos and made deicison that i can buy a gpu later and satisfy my needs with 3400G or 5600G
:D
You're not going to run games at max settings on them, but 1080p60 is often going to be attainable with some graphical fidelity loss
So yes, I'm thinking to buy any of them, but now i need to make a decision which one of them.
I'll watch some online gaming comparisons of both, like you said, whole package
@Nzall Which is much better than my current laptop
If you want an integrated gpu I would go with a 5600G, but if you don't really need one I'd go with a 5600X
16:36
You can probably find a lot of videos online of someone running the games you're interested in
personally
@Unionhawk he wants to game, but he doesn't have the budget for a separate GPU. His budget only goes to 60K Rupees
And for that price you're unlikely to find anything than a budget computer
In USD, his budget is about 800 USD
@Nzall yeah watching same
I'm not a gamer, I just have some spare time because i'm jobless (credit goes to coronavirus) and finding time to play 2 or 3 games.
@Nzall I currently play gta at 1024x768 resolution with 20-25 fps
and lowest settings
and online videos show 5600G is much better
17:03
@Nzall 5600G is tiny bit better that's what I observed.
I think it is because of overall cpu+graphics
18:02
Started playing Watchdogs 1 and damn its crazy how the tone of that game changed before the sequel
the 1 is a very dark, almost noire story
the 2 and I guess 3 are like 'LOL LOOK A US WE R HACKURS
But yeah something that is funny is that there is a french canadian sidekick that drops some pretty solid french canadian swearing

1 hour later…
19:17
lmao
someone found a new skip in MGS by accident in a first playthrough
You can clip through the door which saves 2 minutes on PC
(the mgs community has already developed a setup after I assume an @everyone in discord)
Please tell me they kept naming the skip "Kevin"
They should but it might get renamed in another crediting fashion
But like, if it's the version with that guard you'd call him Kevin

1 hour later…
@Unionhawk There's also some excited talks of whether there might be other doors that this works on, leading to even more timesaves
