I'm enjoying it so far, I've only played 3 hours though.

The thing I'm dealing with at the moment is that you have limited inventory for bringing things back from the dungeons, and I don't have a grasp of what's expensive yet so working out what to leave behind is a slow process

But there aren't that many unique items so I'm sure I'll learn

The fact that you're going into the dungeon for the loot rather than killing things or reaching the bottom is an interesting twist that I'm enjoying

@SaintWacko ADOM was the first roguelike I really got into. I played around with Nethack for a bit, but I found it relied too much on SECRETS so it didn't grab me. ADOM was much more accessible.

@SaintWacko It's actually been a couple years since I've really dived into a classical roguelike. I did buy Jupiter Hell (made by the DoomRL team), but I've barely touched it. I've mostly been playing the more "modern" roguelikes. I've got a lot of hours in Slay the Spire, and I've been playing Spelunky 2 a lot lately.

I'd probably wind up playing it more on console. The original lacks proper (any?) controller support, so that instantly killed it for me since I really don't like mouse and keyboard for that type of game. Newer versions have support, but I've always had issues getting controllers to work reliably on my PC.

In fact I considered buying it on swithc, but it's really pricey.

I have used mkb in Isaac for a long time. It works better in that game than many others because you can generally only shoot horizontally and vertically anyway.

And there are some items that change how you can shoot

I know, that's why I said "generally". It's only a few items out of hundreds.

And you really can do well enough with the movement allowed by the keyboard

And for targeted shooting items like Marked, Mega Fetus, and Ludovico Technique, you're probably better off with mouse targeting than keyboard or controller

The dungeon is infinite; every time you go up or down stairs it generates a new level ex nihilo.

Unlike nethack there are no persistent levels.

Basically, it is focused purely on the dungeon crawling combat part of the experience, and giving you an infinite supply of levels to explore and monsters to fight until you either win or die.

It is, yes.

If that kind of combat-focused dungeon crawl is what you're looking for Angband is a good choice, from what I've heard.

But any items lost while riding cannot and will not be retrieved until after the park is closed, if at all

(though we did make an exception one time for a medically necessary item lost while riding, that's the only time I've ever seen a lockout happen during the day)
