The game that the series revolves around seems to be some kind of WoW analogue. A class-based MMORPG and the eSport centers around a team-based PvP component, kinda like Arena.

And I'll chalk it up to the fact that's a live-action series, but the gameplay portions couldn't realistically be done without VR and mo-cap but they play with keyboard and mouse.

There's also a thing about handing down characters, something that's unheard of in the West.

@Yuuki Exactly; the answer to bypassing the grind is to not make it a grind.

If things get so expensive that you have to spend days grinding out gold, and you don't want players to buy gold from botters, then paying attention to your economy can help alleviate that.

@Frank WoW is doing a level squish for the next xpac, but judging by previous squishes and crunches for item levels, it'll just be a band-aid fix and they'll back in the same situation within two years.

Seriously. BfA had an ilvl squish at the beginning, IIRC, and within two or three patches the ilvls were already almost back to where they were before.

Okay, so the max ilvl in Legion was 1000-ish and they squished it down to 265. And it's nearing the end of BfA and they're up to 460-ish ilvl.

That's 135 ilvls within one xpac.

The problem is that if you have a fixed level cap, then at some point you simply can't make players get more powerful. They'll have 100% crit, so much haste that it becomes almost unplayable to hit your buttons fast enough, and so much versatility they take only half damge

Because right now you don't even get anything new from 80 to 120

so you spend the last 40 levels just grinding levels without any meaningful reward

@Yuuki The problem with only a single level is that you then suddenly go from "you need 40 points per 1% crit" to "you need 240 points for 1% crit", and players lose 80% of their power in a single level. With 10 levels, you can make it more gradual, both through changing the scaling curve across 10 levels and through having catchup gear for players that didn't play the previous expansion much
