@skovacs1 graze->grazers or crazy->crazies..

Yay! The unique enemy list is nearing completion.

FAE
My G35 headset got here, woooooo!
Though I was still in bed when the delivery guy knocked so I had to frantically pull clothes on to get the door

@skovacs1 sorry I didn't c that.. repeat that insult please.. :)

@ShyamK right. craze is a noun. I can't think of an example @ickleislands of the 'ies' ending for words of this type.

@skovacs1 I know I've seen Haxxor but I can't remember where :(

11:07 AM
@ShyamK not an insult, me trying to figure out what you were getting at. I didn't notice that you were indicating my mistake of thinking of craze as a verb.

@skovacs1 I didn't say it was n't.. just that crazy's plural form is crazies.. and not the way you said it.. (I'm hoping I'm right on this) :D

@ShyamK It was implied by what you said as I for some reason thought of crazies as a people who craze which is nonsense as craze isn't a verb, is it. You are correct as near as I can tell.

@skovacs1 Oh.. sorry.. since you deleted it.. I just assumed that it was an insult.. Stupid stupid me..

@ShyamK I don't insult. Glib, snide sarcasm, maybe, but not insults.

@skovacs1 strange, Lazies appears in the scrabble dictionary but not the Oxford dictionary

FAE
11:10 AM
Holy crap this headset is big o_o

@skovacs1 lol

ok so next dumb question
the starred list on the right
that's posts in here that people have starred right?

FAE
@ickleislands Yes

understood
I had assumed as much I just like seeing those three letters in that order every now and again ;)

The 'hollow' stars represent pins. Mods and room owners can pin messages so they stay on top
There's a chat faq you can read

11:12 AM
ok so the filled in stars mean an actual person liked it

FAE
:4927510 See Yi Jiang's note about hollow stars. :)

@YiJiang sorry.. my bad

FAE
@ickleislands Well regular users can star the pin posts too to indicate a "like"

and the number of them displayed is based on browser window size

FAE
Aye
@ickleislands Also, welcome to the Bridge :)

11:15 AM
would you say it is normal to find a cushty job, and then spend all day playing games instead of working?

FAE
@ickleislands This is probably a bad place to get a neutral answer on that :P

I wasn't after a neutral answer
;)
the IT department at the unnamed company I work for keep restricting our internet access further and further
so now I just VPN home and bypass it all

Until they block your VPN connection? :P

Not going to happen, required to do my job

Or is it one of those cases where you can claim you use VPN for legitimate purposes :P
Ah

11:18 AM
not this specific connection, but the ability to VPN in general
works out better in the long run though, I used to get banned several times a week by Blizzard for logging in from too many different IP addresses

user15026
@FAE laughs I have had days like that.

FAE
@AshleyNunn There are 2 general delivery times here for packages it seems, either 12:30pm or 4:30pm. I knew it was supposed to be coming today but I kind of forgot about the 12:30pm option.

@ickleislands I can only find it in the Scrabble dictionary. Even Merriam-Webster doesn't list it although it redirects it to lazy so it might be indicative as the word for those who laze. The anagrammer definition lists it as an adjective or verb, but not a noun for those who laze. Inconclusive.

You're waking up at 12.30pm in the afternoon? :P

@skovacs1 yeah, weird that it is valid in scrabble
@YiJiang 12:30pm is still early for a non-work day for me
6pm-8am when working isn't required

FAE
11:24 AM
@YiJiang This is the earliest I've woken in a couple days man >>

@ickleislands It makes humans more comfortable to speak to us as though we had genders

I must be inhuman then -.-
some breaking news just there

@StrixVaria I've got Marchocyas and Jezeb the Conjuror, but I can't remember where either. I think Marchocyas was from one of the Act 4 randungeons (if you can call the ones in act 4 random), but I can't be certain nor remember which one. Jezeb, I recall facing in one of the Halls of Agony when hunting certain achievements (I think I was killing Butcher with no damage for untouchable), but can't recall which.

Q: Double gas steal in a PvP

TeofrostusIt seems to me that if you send out an early probe (say, before your first pylon) you could steal both of your opponent's gas geysers before they would usually get one. You would have to delay your gateway until about 14 supply. But this should allow you to get warp gate much earlier than your op...

Q: What is the "Item Budget" for Blacksmith created gear?

PalantarBlizzard has stated that the "budget" for item stats goes from 1 to 63 - does anyone know what the stat budget is for Blacksmith-crafted gear? Does upper level blacksmith gear have a budget of 63 in which case you might be able to get Act IV-worthy gear by breaking down Act I gear and recreating...

Q: Which modern PC soccer game does support 4 gamepads?

MulmothI plan to connect 4 XBox 360 controllers to my PC and play a soccer game as local multiplayer. But which one does support this? PES 10/11/12? FIFA 10/11/12?

Q: Is the order of the missions story relevant in Starcraft 2?

MulmothDoes the order have any influence on the story? E.g. Playing the protoss missions after Hanson left the ship (because all of her missions are complete), maybe leads to a missing cut scene because she can't comment it.

@OrigamiRobot you're not a bot though

11:27 AM
@ickleislands According to your gravatar, you are an eyeball. We are one step closer to building a full face.

I have an eyeball
I keep it in a jar

LOL

Does anyone else put stuff aside to sell on the AH later and then when you go to put it up for auction you go, "wow this is crap what was I thinking?"
I have a whole stash page full of stuff like that.

but artificial intelligence doesn't exist in a capacity that would allow a bot to gain 15k rep without some serious misdirection going on

@ickleislands I appreciate the sentiment, but I don't mind.

11:29 AM
@StrixVaria salvage all, get legendary recipe, make legendary, auction

@ickleislands @StrixVaria has more than me. We used to be the same robot before I rebelled.

the fracturing between the two of you must have been painful, had you been developed with the concept of pain taken into consideration
besides, @StrixVaria is a malfunctioning S.I.R. unit
lets call him G.I.R
I am worried about dramtically reducing the life of my mouse by playing Diablo 3
dramatically*

Why can't I find the achievement in this stupid interface for picking up gold.

@StrixVaria Because the UI is practically my only complaint in D3

11:34 AM
it's under general
agreed
well not the UI in general
its just the usability stuff that shouldn't have been omitted

Wait. There are achievements under General that aren't under the sub-options for General?
That's so stupid.

Blizzard says hi
Kotick says that moving the achievements is not cost effective so was scrapped from the final build

It's going to take a lot of playing to get to that 100m achievement.

im already at 17 mil
I did not spent large portions of time at work farming gold
I think on payday I'm going to be a Cyborg MMO7
has anybody used a razer naga and a mmo7?

Q: Is it possible to use console commands to fix the "War Hero" achievement in the Civil War quest line?

rojtersAfter finishing the Civil War quest line in Skyrim I noticed that I had not gotten the War Hero achievement. This achievement can apparently be missed depending on the outcome of Season Unending. As I am playing on the PC, I was wondering if it would be possible to use a console command to force ...

Q: Can I click to move on the Main Map (M key) or Mini-map?

Tater596Let's say I clear an entire dungeon level and know I can proceed safely all the way to the end, but am on the complete opposite side of the dungeon than the exit. 1 hour later…
12:59 PM
gets quiet in here around lunch time

Depends on where you are in the world
Half of the people are from Europe, the other half from America. I get rather lonely in here sometimes

@ickleislands Oh yeah, lunch time, I ought to eat something

I did lunch at 11am
means I get a quiet afternoon while everybody else goes on lunch :)

@ickleislands I would've still been about, but my machine locked up. I've been trying to diagnose the cause, but nothing conclusive yet. I swapped out the primary HDD, as I suspected it might be failing contrary to its having passed all of SeaTools' tests. If that's not it, I'm suspecting other hardware failure with the most likely and problematic culprit in this case being the motherboard.

your personal machine or your work machine?

1:10 PM
@ickleislands personal

oh ok
setting fire to it and blaming the person next to you is out of hte question then

@ickleislands I'm fairly rough with my machines. They don't ever really get a lot of downtime. I watch temp and such and that's usually not a problem, but I tend to consume HDDs fairly consistently. I'd like to go solid state in hopes of alleviating this issue, but size/cost/availability are hampering my plans to this end.

I write music, the amount of music I've lost over the last 5 years due to poorly maintained hard disks is disgusting
but it's all self inflicted through lack of redundancy and backups
so I don't complain
I currently have a 120gb SSD + 2tb raid 0 array in my main machine
and I will be putting a second SSD in next month

@ickleislands Yeah. I lost about 2 years of stuff during a previous drive failure.

I have all of my really important data on a reasonably new 500gb disk that is sat in a box unplugged from everything now
short of my house burning down I'm covered
... I shouldn't have said that

1:18 PM
@ickleislands I have a backup drive in this machine. Considered setting it up as a raid, but like having the extra space - gaming laptop that I use for work and everything else under the sun. When I started suspecting this drive, I picked up a backup and have been keeping a clone handy in case it started acting up.

ye in the past I was too young to have the immediately available disposable income for emergency purchases, so things tended to get left just a little bit too long and then it was too late

Today's listening:

@spugsley Sure, rub it in, why don't you? I haven't found any legendaries at all yet.

NOw if you'll excuse me... tortoise shades. I must be going.

I found Natalya's Gaze while farming zombies in Act 1... from a white mob

1:21 PM
p.s. @RonanForman is awesome.

@ickleislands losing 2 years of stuff was pretty costly, especially given the inopportune timing (is it ever opportune?). I'm not letting it happen again. For now, I'll just use my machine as usual and if it locks up again, I'll have to assume it's another piece of hardware failing and may have to take it in - I am so not a hardware guy :sigh

ye if I have problems with my main pc again I will just turn on my other pc and use that
although I wouldn't be using it for much, since its old
would play world of warcraft on it though np

@ickleislands I have a slightly older tower idling here that I could rely upon if I got desperate. Decent specs for a 4 year old box, but it's an XP build and requires a fair amount of updating to bring it to where I want/need it. I also just really like the portability/ease-of-access/ease-of-maintenance of my lappy.
@fbueckert I've found 2 legendaries so far, both from loot demons. They were rather lame though compared to the gear I've now got and so I believe I no longer have them.

@ickleislands I'm hoping when I finally do find a legendary, karma will catch up with me and invest it into a really good one.
Anyone found any ETA when 1.03 is coming in? I spent all day yesterday bashing my head against the brick wall that is Act 2.
@skovacs1 As long as they're not too common, you can still get close to a million for them.

1:39 PM
You best find it next patch then @fbueckert

@fbueckert I've never actually done AH. I know it's foolish pride, but from what I've seen of its effects, it appears to unbalance things and feels like cheating (I know it's not, but it feels wrong to me in the same way) so I probably salvaged them or gave them away (I do give stuff to friends playing with me ;) ).

@skovacs1 You haven't played Inferno, have you?
It's necessary to optimize as best you can for that difficulty. Blizzard cranked it up to freaking 15.

@fbueckert No, not yet. Mostly farming achievements and researching answers to questions on Normal for the most part.

A: How can I get the most out of Sweeping Wind?

OrigamiRobotThe biggest challenge in using Sweeping Wind is keeping it active by landing melee atacks. For this, mobility is going to be your best friend. Anything with +% Movement Speed is going to help you get to your next target quicker, but I prefer to simply use: Dashing Strike It's just a re...

@StrixVaria @fbueckert
Let me know if I overlooked something.

@skovacs1 Normal and Nightmare are simple enough to not need optimization. It's when you get into Hell difficulty that you need to start unloading the cruft.

1:42 PM
@skovacs1 @fbueckert I've been on inferno but still prefer farming achievements, for me skipping packs to kill bosses feels like cheating so I've been levelling alts and farming achievements
Got to half way through Act 3 before I decided it wasn't fun to play like that

@ickleislands What are you running?

Demon Hunter first, Wizard second
Never spammed Smokescreen and never used Critical Mass
Monk is the one I'm leveling atm

@fbueckert Everyone plays their own way. I'm also levelling and running through with one of each class as well.

I'm just over 3k achievement points too

@skovacs1 And that's great. To each their own.

1:45 PM
If the spawn of the lyceum wasn't bugged I'd have completed Act 1 by now

@ickleislands My only 60 is my Monk. In retrospect, not the greatest choice, but I'm stubborn.

monk seems fun but knowing what I know about inferno I'm not even going to bother with it, just going to get it to 60, kill hell, and then roll a WD

I'm going to hit that brick wall until either it breaks, or my head does.

or it gets patched*
;)

@ickleislands Monk is fine in Act I :P

1:46 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'll leave the text next time then :)

problem is, my gear on my Wiz + DH is decent enough that when they patch the difficulty I'm going to faceroll through the rest of inferno
don't understand their justification on the difficulty curve act 2+
difficulty is the wrong word

@ickleislands That and Battlefield Report or did that one get found/patched as well?

since its not even hard
I think I'm missing battlefield report as well
the patch for those will be sometime next year

@Ktash Yeah, it's a pet peeve of mine, unless it's obviously harmful or something really seriously problematic like embedded goatse images or something, it's better to leave the objectionable content visible so that it gets flagged faster and disappears sooner. Especially during off hours when mods aren't actively clearing the queue.
@ickleislands The issue is that Act II would be a big step up in difficulty even if the mobs didn't gain any health or damage.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I usually break potentially harmful things too. Like gold selling sites or free game code links etc

1:49 PM
@ickleislands What?! So disappointing for an achievement whore like me. By the way, do you have a source on that?

It's just mechanically substantially more annoying/difficult.

no its a joke, it will be fixed Soon(tm)

May 30 at 12:05, by LessPop_MoreFizz
Point is, fuck wasps.

@OrigamiRobot Oh, by all means, it's good to break them. But leave what they did visible. I tend to redirect their links to something like disney.com just to make it obvious.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I'll have to use that next time.

1:50 PM
@LessPopMoreFizz yes it would, and that difficulty difference by itself would have been fine. The fact Blizzard have admitted they couldn't kill inferno themselves with 3+ years of testing and that they figured it would be OK is where the problem actually is

@ickleislands Is there a source for this? Seems stupid to keep a difficulty curve that even the devs themselves can't beat.

you know, I will find it for you

@ickleislands Actually, I don't think that's where the problem is at all. That's pretty standard Blizzard design.

You no longer auto-join General Chat when logging in to Diablo 3
4

@OrigamiRobot Yes!

1:51 PM
@OrigamiRobot woot!

They realized a long time ago that they can't effectively match the skills of their own player base when testing content.

Yeah but they openly admitted they only ever got as far as Act 1 inferno
Don't you think it's too much of a coincidence that the difficulty curve ramps up immediately after the point they tested up to?

Instead, they know how to design mechanics effectively, so they do that, and then just use math to figure out what players are capable of, add some arbitrary percentage to that, and then just throe it out there and let the player base figure it out.
Sometimes, like Heroic Lich King, it works magnificently. Other times, like C'thun, it ends up being... problematic.

cough Madness of Deathwing
Best expansion end boss ever made
I jest

They openly admitted that in the entire development cycle they didn't test the entire game?

1:53 PM
@OrigamiRobot As a sidenote, where'd you find this?

"A few months later, we hear that nobody at Blizzard has even tested Inferno mode and that right before launch they decided to double all the mob health and damage numbers "because we thought players would be better than us"."

@tiddy They admitted that they didn't play test the highest difficulties with 'real' characters. I'm sure they cheated their way through it to bug hunt and such.

Looking for associated blue post

@ickleislands See, but the thing is, they were right.

for some reading though - mmo-champion.com/threads/…
oh yeah definitely
players are better than them

1:54 PM
The problem with Act II is, quite fundamentally, that the mobs would be harder if they did the same damage as in Act I. Act II is a problem at every strata of difficulty.
It's just way out of line with the rest of the game.

Q: What are all of the rules that determine where secret rooms appear?

murgatroid99The Binding of Isaac with the Wrath of the Lamb expansion has two different secret rooms on each floor. It seems that there are some specific rules that determine where the rooms can appear on the map. What are those rules?

Q: Why does my pawn sometimes return with items only?

RachelMy pawn returns from adventuring with other players in two ways: with the name of who has been using her, Rift Crystals, a rating, possibly an item or some equipment, and a comment with nothing more than some small items, typically the kind she can gather herself When I'm using other people's...

but what kind of software development company would openly admit they didn't test the end game of their game?

Especially Blizzard..

@fbueckert When I logged in earlier it said "Click here to join [General]" and I wasn't automatically in.

"oh hai ye we're Microsoft, we only tested Windows up until the point where you got a login screen"
oh wait that's a true story, bad example

1:55 PM
So to say that the problem with inferno Act II is the lack of playtesting is missing the point - especially when so many people just outright skipped Inferno Act II and started farming Act III instead.
@ickleislands Blizzard hasn't done actual difficulty/play testing for their most difficult content for years.

I spent a bit of time farming act 4 due to a terribly sloppy piece of design they did with the public game system

Like I said, they've long since given up on being able to do so, so they just throw some numbers out there and let players figure it out.
And the result is pretty good more often than it's pretty bad.

I've played WoW, I disgaree with your last statement
The last 3 years has been full of bad

It's much easier to nerd content that you accidentally launched as 'too hard' than vice versa, so they know which side it's important to err on.

with it culminating in Diablo 3
Belial inferno being the hardest boss is sad too
It's not even that the "boss" is hard, just all the wonderful one shot adds

1:58 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz Is this even viable? Can you just farm Act 3 even if Act 2 roflstomps you?

@ickleislands I played wow in a US top 10 guild. With all due respect, I happen to think that the difficulty of raid content is the only thing Blizzard hasn't consistently screwed up over the past few years.

@ickleislands Act 2 bosses are always the hardest :P

@fbueckert Yes. Lots of people have been doing this for weeks. Can't skip Belial anymore though.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I got lucky. I joined @Sterno's game while he was murdering Belial.

Most of Act II's difficulty is compounded by the fact that the mobs all have really annoying abilities. Act III mobs are, for the most part, much more straightforward.

1:59 PM
mobs funneled through tight spaces (Act3) > mobs coming at you from all directions (Act2)

Also that.

So now I have Act 3 open to me, even if I can't do much in Act 2.
Alrighty. I guess Act 3 it is, then.

The opening quest of Act 3 is miles easier than the opening quest to Act 2
