I was given a laptop "install office"

it's the slowest pc ever

yet it has i5-7200u and 4gb

dunno if I should blame windows, the dying drive or the antiviruses on this device

with a bit of common sense, there are no viruses that are worth running a "powerful" AV

windows defender does the job and is barely noticeable performance-wise, yet so many people run shit like Norton or Kaspersky or any other 3rd party AV

and they all affect performance a lot

and on a crappy laptop, there's not much performance to spare to begin with...

there's really only one answer to a terribly slow PC with reasonable hardware, and that is to nuke the OS from orbit and reinstall. But that's not really an option for many people

@Ave If the laptop has W10, then the Windows key is written away into the motherboard and it should just automatically register when reinstalling windows

If you have the Windows 10 Creator's update, you can just open the Windows Defender Security Center and start fresh

that's probably the easiest method

@Ave you can download those easily, but I still would never recommend to reinstall a PC you got from someone else. That just won't end well, there'll always be programs and data missing

just install Office on it, and ignore all the rest, not your problem
