6:04 PM
@fredley Prince Harry is, what, 5th in line right now and soon to be 6th? What are the chances he or his future kids make it past his niece(s) and nephew(s)?

6:15 PM
I'm pretty sure that you can't legally be both the President of the US and the King of England

@murgatroid99 Where does it say that in the Constitution, huh?

The Queen/King is head of state of a whole bunch of other countries as well. I don't think there is a fundamental problem there

(Fully aware that there probably is a clause)

The emoluments clause might get tricky ;-).

6:17 PM
And trump has proved that it doesn't apply to the president =p

@KevinvanderVelden He has not proved anything of the sort

(also this is getting in TIF territory =p)

What's in dispute is whether he is in violation of it, not whether it applies to him at all

@MBraedley Even then, it's not like being President allows you to make the US part of England again.

USEntrance

6:22 PM
@MBraedley I think there's something about renouncing royal/hereditary titles in the Constitution somewhere.

@Yuuki Nothing like a trade deal swapping sovereignty for tea and biscuits

Yep, to become a US citizen, you must take the following oath:
> “I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
> that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by t
Although interestingly enough, I didn't have to take that oath when I became a citizen.
Or rather, I don't remember doing so.

@Yuuki That doesn't apply to natural-born citizens, which you have to be to become president anyway

@Yuuki ...hadn't read the oath

But the emoluments clause mentioned above specifically prohibits holders of public office in America from receiving titles of nobility from foreign countries (among other things)

6:26 PM
@murgatroid99 "Natural-born" is an ambiguous term that we still have yet to define.

but yeah, that only applies to people who aren't natural born citizens, in which case they're ineligible for the office of the president.
@Yuuki No, it's been settled, nearly a decade ago.

I don't think we're at risk of the UK trying to annex us.

You're considered natural born if you hold US citizenship since birth.
It's that simple.

@MBraedley What case?

@Yuuki I don't think it's controversial that anyone who might be considered "natural born" wouldn't have to swear an oath of citizenship

6:27 PM
@Yuuki Cruz v. United States

@Yuuki John McCain

@MBraedley Never became President.
@Unionhawk Also never became President.

I think you have to be eligible to become president to run for the office

@Yuuki But you need to be considered eligible just to run.

@MBraedley Actually, there's no rule on the books that you have to be eligible to be President to run.
Air Bud For President 2020.

6:30 PM
At the very least, your party needs to think you're eligible before they nominate you.

@MBraedley Which is distinct from "you need to be legally eligible".

@MBraedley ~trump (also, this is still the bridge)

Pretty much every case where there's been a serious question about eligibility (Obama's eligibility is a not-serious challenge), the case becomes moot because the person loses the race.

I look forward to language lawyering the Title of Nobility Clause to claim that it doesn't address titles given prior to holding office

Given the way Constitutional law works, we're likely not going to see a proper definition to the phrase "natural-born" until someone whose eligibility status is in question is actually elected President.

6:34 PM
In any case, there are two primary competing definitions of "natural-born": it either means "born a US citizen" or "born a US citizen in the United States". In both cases, you don't need to swear an oath of citizenship

> For John McCain the question was whether the Panama Canal Zone, where he was born, was U.S. soil. It is not, and being born of parents both of whom were U.S. citizens did not make him a "natural-born" citizen, although a statute was later adopted naturalizing such persons at birth.
Unfortunately, this article doesn't link to that statute

Q: How do get all special characters to work in Typing of the Dead?

lindelofI've bought TotD and installed in on Windows 10, running as a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop) on my MacBook Air. I can get the game to run in Windows 95 compatibility mode and most keys work fine. But a few keys simply don't work, including ', ```, and =. And I've found that to type [ I need...

@murgatroid99 The second definition is a bit redundant, since anyone born in the US is a US citizen, regardless of parentage.

In the end, none of this matters because Congress can just pass a bill modifying the eligibility requirements.
Granted, they've failed every time they've tried so far, but that doesn't mean that they can't eventually succeed.

@Yuuki you can't pass a law to override the Constitution

6:38 PM
@MBraedley Huh, did that happen? I know that there was a statute which made him a citizen and a non-binding resolution that said he, John McCain, was eligible, but I didn't know there was a blanket thing

It's called an "amendment".
We've had quite a few of those.

@Yuuki which isn't a bill

I think they still start as bills.

According to Wikipedia, "A bill is proposed legislation under consideration by a legislature."

@TimStone I was under the impression that this was pretty cut and dry. The issue with Ted Cruz was that, AFAIK, one parent was solely Canadian when he was born, while the other had dual citizenship.

6:41 PM
@murgatroid99 Sooo... yes, an amendment starts as a bill?

@Yuuki Amendments are not laws, and are not voted on by a legislature
So, no

@MBraedley It's actually technically unresolvable without an amendment to clarify, I think, but in McCain's case the non-binding resolution was sufficient politically to put the issue to rest
Legally I think there were issues with the plaintiffs establishing standing so it just kind of fizzled out

@murgatroid99 In the US, I think all resolutions and joint resolutions are bills.
And amendments begin as joint resolutions.

@TimStone I don't know if it would take a full amendment, as it's just to set the definition of natural born instead of change it.
But that's one for the lawyers to argue over

@Yuuki Even then, you're talking about a resolution to propose an amendment, not the amendment itself

6:47 PM
Interestingly, the citation for that definition of "bill" is unverifiable (it's behind a student login page).

Incidentally both Goldwater and (George, Mitt's grandfather) Romney ran for President despite technically not being born in the US but no one cared to answer this question then because they didn't win

in conclusion down with capitalism and long live the future king of the united states of the united kingdom

Q: Specialist Improved Thermal Binocular - How to tag enemies?

LudoMCI improved my Thermal Binocular for the Specialist class to be able to tag enemies to help my teammates, but what a pain! So I don't know if it's buggy, if I don't know how to works or if I'm so bad at it, but I don't to tag a lot of people! (For now, I'm considering the last two options, leanin...

or queen possibly it doesn't matter to me

It's funny because the emoluments clause specifically saids titles from a "king, prince, or foreign state" and the Queen is just like "Checkmate suckers"

6:56 PM
@TimStone I'm pretty sure the Queen of England counts as an agent of a foreign state

It's not as funny that way

This stored procedure is going to be the death of me I think
Oh god
IT'S A HUNDRED AND THIRTY SIX LINES LONG

Insert Ganon Laugh here.

@Unionhawk That's it?

It's also got a bunch of joins with other stored procedures using some .nodes(XQuery) stuff
It's painful to look at
My face is melting as we speak

7:11 PM
Ganon laugh continues.

and I'm pretty sure the work I have to do is in the XQuery bits

I've used XML nodes in SQL before.

It's just all blending together into one big blob of red

@Yuuki Trying to guess what state this took place in.
It's got to be somewhere in the USA, right?

7:22 PM
My guess is either Alabama or Florida.

Those were the two states at the top of my list as well.

isn't there some terminology for a database table that's comprised of two foreign keys instead of a primary key?

I don't understand that "instead"

@BlueBarren "pls stop"

@BlueBarren Join table?

7:25 PM
@StrixVaria florida obviously

is it join table?

cc @GodEmperorDune @Wipqozn @Ash
Actually, I think I've made this joke before.

@Yuuki hue

It's funny because it's true

I like using the joycons
but I also do not own a pro controller

7:29 PM
@Unionhawk I like using the joycons enough that I'm not too fussed about getting a Pro controller.

Yes

I have a pro controller and I'm annoyed when I have to use joycons
but they're also fine
the pro controller is just better

Sideways joycon is not great
but split joycons, joycon grip, and handheld are all p good
for me

sideways joycons are only good if you have the hands of a six year old

hello I have the hands of a six year old

7:37 PM
@BlueBarren And also when you don't feel like shelling out for two more controllers if you're only going to 4-player like maybe once a year.
I'm perfectly happy with my two pairs of Joy-Cons.

My thoughts for controller configs are, two pro controllers and two sets of joycons

Maybe if Switch gets Smash, I might shell out for another pair of controllers.
But otherwise, I'm not motivated to get more at all.

because for co-op games you have two nice controllers then for 4 player you have 4 decent controllers and then you can also have 6 controllers in case of crazy multiplayer games

I'm not sure Switch handles more than 4 players. Although presumably, you could hand out one pair to a friend who brought his own Switch for 8-player games.

Yeah I don't think the Switch does handle 8 controllers currently
But idk
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe only supports 4 players per system
but like also that game has to splitscreen

7:50 PM

You have that much power with wipebooks :o

@KevinvanderVelden I HAVE ALL THE CYBERPOWER

Do you have all the cybers?

Only on Mondays

8:21 PM
@TimStone Pens sold separately?

Q: How does Professor Booster survive the Labyrinth?

Steven VascellaroMidway through Cave Story, there is an infamous scene with Professor Booster which determines whether or not you can achieve the game’s best ending. Near the end of the Labyrinth, there is a room with a single door placed across a large gap. After entering the room, Professor Booster falls fro...

@Yuuki Probably, I got some with mine because I kickstarted the original version
But they're just Staedtler correctable pens
Which are shockingly pricey, huh

I could pick one up, I guess, but I also have access to notebooks and pens from my workplace.

Yeah, I do like the ones I have but if you don't need to write a lot to begin with (which admittedly I don't these days) it might not make sense
Ugh, why do all these AV companies only sell through resellers? Annoying

8:42 PM
Ugh

8:58 PM
@TimStone ... adult videos?
@TimStone confirmed @RedTuberX sockpuppet.

@Yuuki animal videos, duh!

Q: What does each statistic do?

Fredy31Each character in Pyre has stats. Things like Presence and hope (I think there are 2 others, but can't remember them off the top of my head). So what does every stat do? PS: I think presence is the size of the 'elimination zone' of your character, but I have no clue what hope does.

9:15 PM
LEFT JOIN fnWharrgarbl_Load (@Stuff) AS Wharrgarbl ON Wharrgarbl.Id = @Id OUTER APPLY Wharrgarbl.nodes('Wharrgarbl') as WharrgarblValue(MyType)
aaaaaaa

@Yuuki if that actually worked, we'd all be blind.

@MBraedley actually i think it does work. it's not as bring as the sun (or even a iPhone Flashlight) but if you turn up the brightness and have a very light image on the screen (ie, the picture of the sun) it serves as a backup torch
i know because that's what i do with my iPad when my iPhones are out of power (but i just use a white screen)

@Memor-X a "portable sun" implies a light source that provides as much light as the sun does.
But yes, a display with a sufficiently bright image can cast enough light to see

On the other hand, it might drain your batteries fast enough that you won't go blind.

9:29 PM
What are the chances my boss is going to accuse me of gold plating this feature tomorrow? He's out sick today, so I basically said in an email "I was going to discuss this with you, but now I'm just going to do it."

@MBraedley true but remember the kind of person we are talking about here who actually thinks that it is the sun's light coming from the phone

Question: if @MadMaxJr is now @Maximillian, will @MadScientist change to "@Sciimillian"?

Hey this is p cool

@Avery I saw that somewhere. How is that different from just a 'like'? Can you clap multiple times?

Yes
Up to 50
It's on medium
It's different from like and dislike because it allows you to have more detail
Like star ratings
But star ratings on articles would be meh so I suppose it makes sense

9:35 PM
I don't get it
Does it just show the total amount of "claps"?

user15026
I get that they capped it, but like...I feel like this could be spammed

user15026
even with the cap

user15026
It doesn't really add anything if it just shows a total, eother

It's a basic "Allow interaction to keep people interested" feature

Q: Why can't I get better at games?

lXBlackWolfXlI'm starting to think that there's just something about me that prevents me from improving. I actually do best, when I don't try. That's right. When I try to do better, I always do far worse. And if I try to follow a guide, its just a complete and utter diseaster (though I suspect that may just b...

@Lazers2.0 git gud

@MBraedley And don't get hit.

@Lazers2.0 IIRC, the Batman games are basically rhythm games pretending to be fighting games.

Up, Down, Left, Bat, Bat, Bat

@Yuuki yeah as I understand it it's basically shadow of mordor combat
Which yes is absolutely a rhythm game
You get crits on well timed hits and counters

Speaking of which
Is the combat in Nier: Automata like that too?

9:55 PM
Paging doctor @Fluttershy

@DanmakuGrazer no, not really

@Lazers2.0 literally git gud

I don't think there's blocking/countering in Nier.

it's kind of weird to see someone with 89 rep and no badges
cause they got assoc bonus and then got downvoted into oblivion
kind of sad but oh well

@Maximillian Aren't there perfect evades or something like that?

10:04 PM
There's evasion, but I don't recall perfect evasion. I didn't play much of it admittedly.

@DanmakuGrazer Yes, but it's not really a rhythm thing. It's just timing

what's a good way to say to the government that the reason i left a job was because i got bored with the work and left voluntarily. so far i just have "Voluntarily Resigned"

@Memor-X I think that's fine.
I mean, even "resigned" is probably okay.

@Yuuki ahhh ok. thanks

"Completed all challenge levels offered by employer."

"Beat the game"

11:25 PM
So it's performance review time for me again.

@DanmakuGrazer The combat in Nier is more like Bayonetta. Hack and slash action.
I guess is how that's described?

From all my research into market values, I've found that Robert Half's salary guide tends to give the largest numbers.
They seem somewhat high, but from talking in the local subreddit, it seems accurate.
So as part of my gathering data points, does anyone here work in IT want to take a look and see if it seems right to them?

> concider
pls

@Yuuki Wow. That looks amazing
@Memor-X Voluntarily Resigned kinda sounds like you were told "Either resign or you're fired." "I voluntarily resign!"

@Memor-X I've done that. My go to is, "I felt that I no longer had anything left to learn, or teach. I'm looking for a new challenge."

First EA with Battlefront 2, now Bungie with Destiny 2.
