I had to block my dad on Facebook because he just spouts (actual) fake news and pro-Trump propaganda.

Like it's one thing to support him (I guess), but it's another whole level when you are one of the mouthpieces of evil.

I called him out on it for a while but nothing changed except that he said he felt hurt that I would make him look stupid in public.

You are the one making yourself look stupid.

But anyway, just not talking to him is the healthiest I think.

@GodEmperorDune I get what they're saying, but this seems like a pretty clear misrepresentation of the arguments around the bathroom stuff

The argument about trans people in the bathroom is much more of a "it makes me feel icky"

It's not that I agree with removing trans people from the military, or with preventing them from using the bathroom they choose, but when you argue against strawmen, it only hurts your own credibility

And also "I feel better about my present situation by othering marginalized groups that have it worse than I do"

@GodEmperorDune One of the main arguments, as I remember, was that non-trans people would take the opportunity to go into the other bathroom in order to spy on or accost people of the opposite gender

@Ronan I guess, from that point of view, if you look at arguments against transgender rights in general, you can see that the fundamental basis is something like "I don't believe transgender people really exist" or "I believe that being transgender is a mental illness" or "I believe that being transgender is a choice"

When you are constantly seeing reinforced that you are lesser and you are worth people belittling you and degrading you and not considering you to be real or whatever, sometimes, you want to make light of it because dear god all the darkness just really damn sucks.

People need a chance to just for a moment, find something to smile at or laugh about or feel empowered by and sometimes, a joke like this, meant in kindness, a way of saying "hey I see you", can make it easier, even for the few seconds it takes to read the tweet.

@Ronan It's so soft. My cat also likes snuggling it. I have it in my bed with my blue whale and my platypus and my 2 different Toad plushes (blue Toad and Captain Toad) and I like it because it reminds me a whole bunch of internet people think I am awesome enough to adopt a family of arctic foxes for and sometimes that is enough to keep me going.

@Ronan Yes! The blue Toad looks very Toad like. The Captain Toad one has a little plush headlamp on and a little plush pickax. @WorldEngineer got me the blue one, and I got the Captain Toad at EB Games once. (The same day I got my Thwomp pillow, I think.)
