@Jutschge my friends now live in a different city. When we did live in the same city I lived with my parents and my parents are the nosy type so I didn't like having people over
Or rather I now live in a different city
Hmm... what's the most recently released skateboarding game?
Ah, precious coffee...
^ So much this.
@Yuuki Probably Tony Hawk 5 , which was a piece of trash.
@MadMAxJr I found this new indie coffee store this morning and it's like I found El Dorado.
@badp RIP Germnay
I have settled for 'Breakroom coffee of unknown origin'
user15026
15:14
@Yuuki that explains the lack of seed eating. Going to get them some meal worms?
Yeah.
I'm either going to grab them when I head home for lunch and put them in the fridge or I'll buy some on the way home after work.
Probably the latter, I have no clue if there are pet stores anywhere near work.
@MadMAxJr Who doesn't love mystery coffee? Especially if it comes out of a single serve packet.
@badp I'm not seeing rain yet :(
@badp this is a really cool site. Do you know how real-time this is?
Never mind, I'm dumb.
@HazyKingdom It's a packet that makes a pot. Says 'STARBUCKS' on the side. Doesn't taste like starbucks.
15:26
I mean Starbucks brewed coffee is different from a Starbucks espresso drink
@MadMAxJr Maybe they were scraping the bottom of the barrel with that packet. lol
@Arperum rain and thunder confirmed for here
True, their coffee blends are actually a lot better than that espresso garbage.
Also, when the heck did an expansion to Darkest Dungeon come out? I nabbed Crimson Court last night.
@badp thunder is fun, also fun is it suddenly dropping 10 degrees
15:27
They have a new expan? Snazzy, I had no clue.
> But SB 5 has another insidious purpose: to overturn a St. Louis ordinance that bans employers and landlords from discriminating against people on the basis of their reproductive health decisions. In other words, if SB 5 is passed, you could be evicted in the state of Missouri for having an abortion, using birth control, or becoming pregnant while unmarried.
@Wipqozn Because that makes sense.
Then again, if you've ever been to MO outside of St. Louis, you already know nothing in that state makes sense.
Why are some parts of the USA so gosh darn backwards?
You have areas like, say, California which is all "Bigotry is wrong"
and then you have shit like this where it feels like everyone wishes it was still the 1940s where MEN WERE MEN ADN WOMEN WERE WOMEN
@HazyKingdom Can confirm.
I like to think that the SE region of the country is a completely different country all together.
You can literally drive for hours without seeing any civilization except for yokels with shotguns.
^ these yokels also hold political positions.
15:33
@MadMAxJr I need to actually finish that game.
I also need to git gud.
Same.
It just feels like this shit is unique to the states. Not bigotry or ass backwards laws, because that happens everywhere, but that there that large parts of the country are just so vastly different from one another.
I may need to start over. I want the achievement for having the tutorial duo survive.
@Wipqozn how do employers even discover this information?
I suppose that's why people say the states in the USA are more like mini-countries than states I guess?
15:35
Hi, I live in the midwest USA. You can drive here for upwards of six hours and not see things on the horizon.
Because they do have a lot more independence than states from other countries from what I understand, and obviously cultural values are vastly different from state to state.
@Wipqozn That's kind of how America is though. Where I grew up (one of the largest cities in the country) , everyone was pretty dem side. You could drive 40 minutes to another state and everything was all flip flopped.
@MadMAxJr Corn Country.
@HazyKingdom I know, I just find it so strange.
@HazyKingdom That word is almost exclusively Nebraska.
Because it just seems to be a states thing.
15:36
@BlueBarren It's not that the employers are actively looking for this information.
Where I am is largely wheat.
@MadMAxJr Hey don't knock NE, I love that place. Omaha has stellar steak and beer ... and corn.
But if they ever do, they can fire you.
I drove through Nebraska in early spring. Never again. Manure/fertilizer smell for hours.
Like Canada has cultural differences, sure, but I don't feel like if I stepped one province everyone suddenly the I'm going to be surrounded by bigots.
15:37
@Wipqozn If you read anything on the Pacific NW you'll find it's pretty much hippy country.
I have no clue why I occasionally confuse Omaha with Tulsa.
I've driven to one part of Canada. British Columbia. You have more trees than people there.
@Yuuki I just feel like anyone who will actually fire you over birth control would probably be into witch hunting people for it (pardon the term witch hunting)
@MadMAxJr I have a lot of family there, including an uncle who lives on a gun range. Pretty used to that. Actually kind of dig it now that I think about it, means good crop.
@MadMAxJr That's pretty much the case for most of Canada
15:38
Kelowna is lovely, BTW. Thanks for that, Canada.
@BlueBarren Well yeah, I guess what I meant what was that employers aren't obligated to find out whether their employees are using birth control.
Or at least I don't think they are.
> Teenage boys wear skirts to school to protest against 'no shorts' policy
@MadMAxJr I live in Halifax, and our city is very tree filled.
> "he had been told on Wednesday the skirt was too short and his legs too hairy. Some of the boys had taken this into account and bought razors to shave their legs. "
Like I'm near the edge of the city, and there's like forest here
@Wipqozn Sounds amazing. D=
15:41
@Wipqozn BC is different. Also, every tree where I live has been planted by man. No natural trees!
that's near near the harbour
that's from our downtown
damn, even the water doesn't look toxic.
@JasonBerkan BC is literally a rainforest
This is also downtown
lol a community garden too ...
15:44
@HazyKingdom that's not our community garden
that's the commons, which is basically just a giant open field for sports and skating
Nice!
Fine example of how we treat our resources.
@fredley Yup. Good fruit too.
That's the Public Gardens
I really question my citizenship status when I see stuff like this. Too bad there isn't a real great way for me to get a visa.
15:46
@HazyKingdom wat
Various shots from inside the gardens
user15026
@HazyKingdom this does not look real
that's not even the largest green space in the city
@fredley Every year they dye a river green that causes an incredible amount of damage to what's left of wildlife. FOR ONE DAY.
user15026
15:47
@Wipqozn okay this is pretty.
@Wipqozn Where do I sign up?
@Yuuki sometimes I wish it was culturely acceptable for men to wear skirt-like garbs. Like why can't tunics still be a thing? I know you could technically wear a kilt but I'm not Scottish
there's also point pleasant park, which is 190 acres in size apparently
@HazyKingdom Yay, St. Patrick's Day.
which is 0.78 square KM
that's the view of the park from the ocean
yes the park is right next to the ocean
15:49
All of Halifax is right next to the ocean.
Random old ass structure inside the park
@JasonBerkan I can see the ocean from my office desk. It's great.
Here is what any London park looks like if it is sunny outside:
@Wipqozn :P
Followed by:
15:51
The parks are quite nice when the weather's not though
I guess
That's The Citadel, which is in the heart of downtown too
It's an old fortress
The cannons still work, actually, and are fired off everyday at...noon, I think?
@fredley Wait, London gets sun?
cc @MBraedley to back me up on how pretty the city is
@Wipqozn Can confirm
15:52
@Yuuki It's been 30º+ for the past week
Everyone's losing their minds
Okay I'm down bragging about how awesome our city is
@Wipqozn This looks like a Mario Kart track.
@MadMAxJr reminds me of the prison race track from GTA Online
@fredley Just heard some thunder here that was disturbingly long and loud, maybe this is actually the end
Well there's some thunderstorms going on in Southern Ontario as well
sounds like the end
"It's much better than Obamacare," Sen. Purdue. on new health bill. "Why?" we ask. "I have to go read it."
@Unionhawk Unfortunately this is blocked at my office.
@Unionhawk how cool would it be if this was a physical lcoation.
So IMAGE NOT FOUND is quite a timely reference! [GENERIC LAUGH #47]
@MadMAxJr protip copy url paste into image upload in sandbox
16:01
@TimStone So what's the over and under on getting a Canadian citizenship?
Incidentally, anybody hiring devs up there?
Police remove protesters, some in wheelchairs, from outside Mitch McConnell’s office https://t.co/dZrdUZGOBU
Just beware of any Canadian sitting on something higher than you. Since a Canadian marksman just set the record for longest killshot.
Keepin' it classy
@Yuuki Was about to link the company job board, but realized it was the internal job board. Suffice it to say, we are hiring devs. You may have trouble getting the security clearance though.
"I will keep any secret you want if you keep me out of Trump-merica."
16:10
You generally need to be at least a permanent resident, but sometimes you can get it on a work visa.
@KevinvanderVelden Lies. So much lies.
A lot of Canadian provinces also have rules that they have to check all local applicants before reviewing any foreign ones.
And based on the rain forecast website the tiny rainarea has already passed.
Or at least that's what they told me when I tried to score work in BC.
@MadMAxJr That's a bit of an over simplification
If a business wants to sponsor a work visa for someone, they have to prove that there are no local applicants that are suitable for the job.
You can't discriminate against someone who is legally allowed to work, regardless if they are local or not.
16:22
@MBraedley I feel like there will always be a suitable applicant locally. Sure there might be a better applicant somewhere else but that doesn't mean they can't find someone locally
So I'm implementing a re-ordering method and there's currently a big conditional that I'm using to check whether re-ordering makes sense (moving the first item in the collection to the first position doesn't make sense, for example).
I'm wondering if that conditional saves me time or not.
@BlueBarren There is actually a number of business here in Halifax that haven't been able to find suitable applicants, and it delayed their hiring of skilled refugees by months.
So if chat is going HTTPS does that mean we can't post insecure memes anymore?
@MBraedley Maybe I'm thinking of this from a southern Ontario tech industry perspective, there's always going to be someone else you can hire
@RedRiderX tl;dr can't post memes about myself
16:26
In particular, there was a bakery (or similar) that was looking for a pastry chef, found a Syrian refugee (IIRC), but couldn't hire him because of the work visa sponsorship requirements.
How does proving that there are no suitable local applicants work?
@MBraedley Still, I managed to get an up to date passport out of prepping for that job. It was a gig with one of disneys game development units (Specifically the group that bought Penguin Club, lock stock and barrel), to do data analytics of game trends and behaviors while working closely with developers.
I wanted that job sooooooo bad.
@Yuuki "We've had this job posting out for x months, and all the applicants we've received were not reasonable for these various reasons."
Despite having two company referrals, I was informed they had local candidates they wished to review.
@MadMAxJr Would you have needed a work visa?
16:31
@Yuuki I would assume you'd just say none of the applicants are suitable and just prove you at least interviewed all of the people. I'm sure no one's is going to want to validate all the candidates plus there's a relative subjective nature to this process. I'm sure any employer could argue that a candidate isn't viable even if whoever checks the process thought they might be
@MBraedley Yes. Though I had shown that I was ready to do so.
That was ten years ago. I think things would have been very different for me had I got that.

Q: How do I stop the Maxamilliion tank?

ZissouuSo I am currently in chapter 6 and having issues with the Maxamillion tank. I can always get to the spot where he crashes through the base but I cannot stop him at this point. I'd appreciate any help or strategy to try.

@MadMAxJr But until you actually prove you're legally allowed to work for them, they have to consider locals first. And in order for you to be legally allowed to work for them, you need a work visa. And in order to get a work visa, you all but need a letter of offer.
Quite possibly the best pair of T-Shirts i have ever seen https://t.co/40R3K6DmjA
@Yuuki RIP r/meirl
@MBraedley It didn't work out, but it gave me hope when I really needed it.
16:41
@Unionhawk I regret to inform you that Portman may weasel his way into a yes vote again
God fucking dammit
I'm surprised that they aren't trying that thing where they take the bill, remove everything that was inside the bill, fill it with completely unrelated language, and pass it as that with the same name.
Nothing new here, but holy crap this image
How does this keep happening?
Every once in a while I check who the current room owners are and it's never @Wipqozn.
16:55
I blame @badp, probably
@Unionhawk You're being quick to blame, aren't you to blame?
@Arperum I don't remember doing that this time
@BlueBarren On the one hand, I'm not bothered by no recoil. On the other hand, I'm really concerned that a game designer thinks removing recoil will make a game harder.
@BlueBarren I see no issue here.
The PC and console versions of the game should probably not be identical because the control schemes are anything but.
I'm glad that they're at least considering what changes need to be made for the new control scheme.
17:00
I mean, I'm glad that they're considering changes between PC and console versions but I'm a little puzzled that removing recoil is the change they think they need to make.
The only reason I question the removal of recoil is because how does a gun work without it?
@BlueBarren This literally doesn't matter at all.
They are making a game, not a realistic shooting simulator.
@Yuuki This is a more interesting concern.
It's like saying "we know that controllers have a more difficult time with twitch aiming than PC so we decided to remove aiming for PC, just hold the fire button and you'll hit your target".
But there's certain elements of realism you don't want to remove
@BlueBarren Gameplay > Realism always
17:01
well yeah
@BlueBarren High-tech stock absorbs the kinetic energy from the recoil to recharge your shields.
@Yuuki Yeah that is strange. I am trying to think of what PC games I know of that have recoil though.
A lot of them, instead, have spread.
CS has recoil
Because with recoil on PC you would constantly have to aim adjust.
the negev or p90 are great examples
17:02
Which is a little bit more annoying to do than with a joystick where you can hold a static joystick position to aim adjust.
Maybe they're going to use spread instead of recoil, and the article is just poorly worded.
@Beedrill RIP my wallet
Most milsims like CoD and Battlefield have recoil, I think, but they're also on console.
> Sorry

The Steam Store is experiencing some heavy load right now. Please try again later.
@TimStone I hate and love that actblue has my credit card on file lol
@Yuuki I haven't played an FPS with recoil on PC in a while, but I also haven't played any military shooters on PC in a while either.

This is fun
Looks like there may be some issues with the discounts, since Hollow Knight is a "highlighted deal" and has 0% off.
And I just hit a link in an email and it's just like "hi Evan, you're all set, pick an amount and we'll charge it to the card ending in xxxx"
I'll give it a few minutes.
@SaintWacko I guess I'll go swordfighting before looking :p
17:11
You would think that they would know to spin up more servers or whatever when the Steam sale starts.
sudo make_it_work_dammit
Hollow Knight is under $10
I'm glad this reality show reveal happened
NEXT TIME ON "THE PRESIDENT"
IS THE PEE TAPE REAL? MAYBE WHO KNOWS FIND OUT ON THE NEXT EPISODE
awfully convenient of him to drop a tape related bombshell to distract from the clusterfuck of a senate health care bill
17:16
Besides there are more important tapes going on here
@Unionhawk cc @ashleyfeinberg
She's off gizmodo Special Projects and on wired now but I'm sure she'd find a way to put pee tape in wired
But it wouldn't be as good as it would have been if the child of Gawker that somehow lived did it
nah, the pee tape is a natural fit for gizmodo
Yeah that's why it'd be less good on wired
Avery asked me to do an ad for The Bridge's Child's Play charity marathon... Here's what I have now:
17:24
@noɥʇʎԀʎzɐɹƆ maybe you should use the word "terminal" instead of "deadly"
or fatal
@BlueBarren hmmm.... yup I'll do that
I would also lessen the severity of "few moments".
deadly just seems like a rather aggressive word. Although terminal illnesses are aggressive...
@Beedrill Yeah, I'll second that
17:25
@Beedrill how would I word that?
It just seems wildly understated.
"a little bit more enjoyable" for "a few moments" is such a dire and dismal feeling.
I tried decreasing the font size for #1 to fit all on one line, but you'd need to reduce it too much
And I get that it really is that because children with terminal illnesses is a depressing topic.
@Beedrill it's kind of a pity cry "hey you can make their lives a little better why not"
But you're not really selling the benefits of the charity by drawing out that quality so much.
17:27
I get it, but help wording it?
I'm thinking.
Maybe check out their website, they have a bunch of descriptions of what they do.
> Since 2003, we’ve set up and organized Child’s Play, a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in our network of over 100 hospitals worldwide. Over the years, you as a community have answered the call and come together to raise millions of dollars.
Here's one quote from their website.
Because I had the same idea as @Ronan
I've been robbed!
if you need help with synonyms, have this, it's the greatest thesaurus on the planet (I'm serious, it's 5x better than any other thesaurus. It's like Google vs. AltaVista): onelook.com/reverse-dictionary.shtml
The size of the footer and main text are all done according to the golden ratio
17:31
Oh, Oracle, why do you have to be such a pain in the ass?
(Although, technically, it was missing folders and bad permissions that were the root cause.)
Why is it so hard to think of the wording for that? You want to be realistic with your message but you also don't want to be morbid
@BlueBarren Yeah it's hard.
I think "Child’s Play, a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in our network of over 100 hospitals worldwide" is a fine description to use.
That's fine as in good, not okay by the way.
Yeah, and they probably went through more iterations than we'll have time to to get there.
"Child's Play gives toys, books, and games to children's hospitals around the world." KISS
17:38
@Beedrill like you want all of a child's moments to be enjoyable, you don't want to think about only a few of their moments or their last moments

Q: I can't find the name of a mysterious analysis tool

Gregor PerčičI was strolling by the internet and found this video. In it, the user manipulates multiple code traits to explore the secrets of much beloved game Dark Souls (a big fan over here); these so-called "secrets" are not buried in unused file of game code, they are rather fragments of alpha stages of t...

Child's Play makes hospitals suck less for kids.
@Lazers2.0 This is totally off topic, right?
"Identify this unknown software that is related to a game."
If game identification is on-topic, is mod identification on-topic as well?
17:44
@DanmakuGrazer No, you can't assume that.
Game rec is off topic and some mod rec stuff is on topic (regretfully).
Game rec is not on topic
And not what I was talking about
I was demonstrating that your logical leap is flawed with an example of where an analogous leap would get you to an incorrect conclusion.
I didn't make any logical leap
Your conclusion may be right, but the logic you used to get there is not.
Well now I'm just confused
17:46
Well he's about to provide a picture to supplement his reference.
@MadMAxJr That doesn't change anything, TBH.
He's asking for a non-game identification with an artifact.
Whether it's video or image doesn't materially change the on-topic-ness of the question.
Huh. Looks like some kinda debug console.
.... Someone posted a comment as an answer and it's a link-only reply, on the recent Valkyria Chronicles question.
So flag it
