@Oak Yeah, that's how it looks like it might end up at the moment...
Hello from my vita
Oak
Oak
@RavenDreamer congrats for your prize!
We talking about ITG again?
Oak
Oak
@RonanForman Nope
@RavenDreamer you got a vita? Add me if you use PSN, I'm "Barakku"
wait...I think I added you before
21:01
@RonanForman ... No, of course not <.<
Oak
Oak
@RonanForman it's something completely unrelated and not in the least controversial :)
this is Hard to chat from
I've changed my stance by the way.
@RavenDreamer I'm... sorry?
4
You bought one?
21:02
@RavenDreamer unsurprising. It's hard to chat on the ipad too
Impressed the vita works with all the JS honestly
no. won one
i did manage to close a dupe from this!
@agent86 Sorry, I wondered away from my desk. That looks much better
Oh yeah?
I've reallised no matter how much the help people, they don't fit our site, you're supposed to up vote answers that are correct, but only the OP knows that, so they shouldn't be able to get more than one vote. But they do, so clearly they don't work.

I didn't know the prizes stacked.
this is from last contest, hahA
Ah ha. Forgot I was talking to a machine ;)

Q: What weapon combinations keep my biotic cooldowns at 200%?

Dave McClellandI'm heavily oriented toward biotic usage, so my current loadout consists of only my pistol and SMG. There are some occurrences, though, where I wish I had my sniper rifle or shotgun with me. Factoring in all the available weight reduction mods and all classes' weight capacities, what combinatio...

Q: How powerful is Aria T'Loak?

yx.We know that she ruled Omega, and is probably an extremely powerful biotic, but in ME3 it was shown that even the Asari councilor was at her beck and call despite having lost her seat of power. Was it ever explained in any of the mini comics how she came to have so much influence or power?

2
Q: Is it wise to trust Aria T'Loak?

agent86I encountered Aria in the bar on the Citadel, and she offered to lend her influence over the criminal/mercenary gangs if I was willing to solve a few problems for each gang or its leader. I'm playing a full Paragon run though, so I'm trying not to be overtly evil. Is it wise to trust Aria? S...

Q: Does Mass Effect 3 feature a violence or language filter option?

johnjonFrom what I've heard and seen, there is a decent amount of violence and language in this game. I'm referring to things like headshots bursting in a spray of alien blood and some off-color words uttered casually in dialog. Is there an option to tone down these occurrences for those who do not wis...

Q: how to get the good ending in Mass Effect 3

NickshepardI've started playing Mass effect 3's multiplayer, so as to pass the time until the summer, because I can focus more on the story mode in the summer when I don't have college classes to go to. But ever since I picked up my N7 edition of Mass effect 3, I've heard all of these rumors about needing w...

@RonanForman I don't agree with that. I think you can upvote answer that you think are right or show good research. Just like SO questions asking what is wrong with this persons code
2
@Lazers Holy Crap... That's a lot of questions
You can know what's wrong with someone elses code, you can't see people's memories.
21:06
Only the OP knows what fixed the problem, but people can show what they think is wrong and get to a "good" answer
Wow, I like Desura already.
Oak
Oak
@GnomeSlice what's it like? Steamy?
@RonanForman I can. And your keys are in your front pocket, stop looking for them.
that makes it like a game rec, thouvh, ktash
@Oak Yes and no. It appears to actually work, for one.
21:07
@Lazers Really Lazers? Really?
@RavenDreamer See, but Game-rec's don't have a right answer. They have an answer that the person choose and goes with, but there is no right or wrong
@Lazers is this a dupe? It seems like it kinda is. lots of ending questions already.
we've had at least 3 questions that resulted in a list of endings
thats exactly the problem.p, ktash
@RonanForman You can know what might be wrong with people's code, but sometime a bug lies elsewhere and that is actually the answer they are searching for. But you can make guesses based on the given information
Oak
Oak
21:09
@LessPop_MoreFizz Hmm. Imagined it was phrased as "I don't like to hear too many swear-words while I'm playing. Which companions should I avoid?"
@Ktash I think his point is that if we're valuing answers that are flat out wrong (by not prescribing to the ritual that is the mind of the author), then what you get is essentially a catalog of games.
@Oak Not really a valid question at that point.
@Oak Most of the off color dialog doesn't come from companions.
Oak
Oak
@LessPop_MoreFizz why?
@LessPop_MoreFizz don't know about it, haven't played a minute of ME3
@Oak It's just an absurdly big and pointless question. As the comment notes... sometimes the only winning move is not to play.
Oak
Oak
Just saying, besides the colorful language, I don't think the core question is that ridiculous
1
A: Can you get the good endings if you play a purely renegade Shepard?

Ben BrockaYes. Here is a list of largely spoiler free ending info with requirements listed, you have to click to expand the spoiler for each ending. Morality doesn't affect whether you can get the "best" ending, though whether or not you saved the Collector base in ME2 forces your hand for certain ending ...

@GraceNote And you can end up with a catalog of issues with a given snippet of code as well. Or descriptions of what might cause an error.
This answers that question completely doesn't it? I think there's even a more general endings Q too
@RavenDreamer I'm not sure I know what you mean by this...
21:11
gamerecs have no right answer, so they are off topic. itg have one answer, but only one person knows it, so it gets treated like a gamerec, with popular games rising to the tpo regardless of actualcorrect ness
forgive me, hard to type fast on this
@RavenDreamer I think that is the issue with the voting on ITGs, not on the questions. If the answer is well researched and supported, I think it should get an upvote, otherwise it should not
@RavenDreamer Because people do it wrong, isn't a bad thing with the questions...
Could I post an ITG, but for a game I haven't played, but instead of saying I would like a game like this (which is game-Rec) say it was a game like this? Surely that allows me to get game-Rec through as a ITG?
@RavenDreamer Haha, no worries
Oak
Oak
@RavenDreamer I don't remember too many ITGs in which popular games gravitated up
21:13
@RonanForman If you could manage to get it specific enough somehow.
Which you couldn't, really.
@RonanForman Cheatcodes for gaming!! ;)
Oak
Oak
@RonanForman as I said before, I don't think it will work. People usually mention the small things they remember in ITGs, e.g. "yellow shirt". Game-recs are more about gameplay and the such
People still guess it it's not specific.
@Ktash So if I know a game which fits the askers criteria without needing to research it, and it turns out to be the correct game, I shouldn't get up votes?
@RonanForman That's why I think we would need to strictly enforce the guidelines
21:14
@Oak ^this, you really should be able to describe at least the main character in some amount of detail.
@Wipqozn If you can say why you think it fits, and maybe a screenshot, I think you should get upvotes
But upvotes shouldn't be the point of answers, it should be helping the OP
at least that's my opinion
@Ktash I agree, but the up vote system exists for a reasons. One of the issues with ITG is that that system doesn't work with ITG.
We need to come up with special rules for why you up vote something.
the solution to “people dont vote correctly on itgs” isnt, well, they zhould l2vote. itgs have been around since the beginning. people still still arent vofing correctly on them. that indicates a systemic problem.
@Wipqozn If it fits the OP's description and you can show that some.
@Ullallulloo I think you missed the end of your sentence.
21:17
@RavenDreamer Is that some kind of write-to-type? Or are you just really bad at aiming on your text input interface?
@Wipqozn No, it was meant as a dependent clause to answer your question.
Oak
Oak
@RavenDreamer it feels bad arguing with you like this, it's like trading punches with a cripple. Doesn't it have a touch screen?
3
@Ullallulloo This. If you can show or discuss how or why you think it fits, than I think you should get the upvotes
@Ullallulloo Some = research?
the character input covers the textbox it writes to, so i cant see what i wrote until i send it.
21:19
@Wipqozn "If it fits the OP's description and you can show that it fits" <- alternate wording
@RavenDreamer I'm glad Sony is still taking great leaps forward in fucntional UI design.
@Wipqozn If you can show that it fits some. A little.
Woohoo, 15/15 shares
@Ktash But the answer also needs to be correct.
chat.stackexchange isn't mobile friendly
21:21
That's the problem. Someone could write a super detailed and researched answer to a question, but if it is wrong, it should still be down voted and not receive any up votes.
someone star that for me
@Ktash (Unless they're desktop apps, then they will)
@Wipqozn The upvoter has to agree that the answer is likely correct. Just like in SO when discussing wrong bits of code. I know I have written "this is what is wrong" gotten upvotes and been wrong.
@RavenDreamer hah. Noooo it is not. I'm impressed they have a mobile site at all
21:22
@badp I thought it was just a Windows 8 across-the-board feature? That's how it sounded anyway
the "keep at bottom of the page" thing is just mean
@Ktash I might have been too obscure in the wording there
Oak
Oak
@LessPopMoreFizz I like the fact you want to give the policy a chance before we vote on it. But to be honest I really don't want to draw this decision further. Yes, it makes sense to "try before you buy". But I don't think what will happen with the proposed criteria is so hard to imagine. Maybe.
There, fixed.
Oak
Oak
Just sayin'
21:23
@badp Well, Windows 8 is overall seeming to cripple the desktop because mobile is the new trend, so I don't think I will be buying it anyway
@Ullallulloo it should default to that
Only if a correct mobile agent is detected
@RavenDreamer There's actually a super nice mobile UI
@LessPop_MoreFizz it's a pain in the butt if you try to scroll up
21:24
I don't actually know what the Vita is treated as, though, so I wouldn't know if it would default or not.

Q: some none IE browsers are showing true for IE6 Browser detection

Phill PaffordSo I'm running jQuery 1.3.2 (yep it's old and right now I can't upgrade). Problem is I'm trying to drop IE6 support for our internal site and upgrade the browser. I have this check if($.browser.msie && $.browser.version=="6.0") { // do something... } But during testing (some) Fire...

Thanks, ulullulul
@BenBrocka Turn off the always scroll down option, dummy.
@Wipqozn That is a question I got a fair bit of upvotes for because I had a good answer, but it was wrong
@RavenDreamer lololol
21:24
the "stay at the bottom" thing is broke compared to the desktop thing
I think you got a couple too many us there, kid.
It shouldn't be on by default
@GraceNote I think he's performing a war cry
Or a mating call
@BenBrocka Like LOGALOGALOGALOGALOG! ?
@Wipqozn That's the main question. Whether or not we can get the criteria specific enough that people can vote correct answers within reasonable certainty.
@BenBrocka That's where I got my name actually. Only one person ever has recognized it.
21:26
@Ktash Yes, that's a problem, but what I'm saying is that your proposed system for voting on ITG means that we should always vote like that on ITG.
help being crushed by technology
5
@Wipqozn I think we always vote like that system wide. We vote on what we think it the right answer. But @Ullallulloo has it right. The criteria is what we're trying to get specific enough to be able to vote with reasonable certainty
@Ktash actually it's also often the quality of the answer not just the correctness/applicability
Oak
Oak
@RavenDreamer first of all, relax. Then shut down the device, carefully pry it open with your trusty leatherman, locate the CPU, find the nearest steelworks, then toss the CPU inside some random molten metal vat there.
@BenBrocka Also true. Though sometimes this leads to quirks, so I think we need to be careful doing that. For example, the highest voted answer here is wrong, but is well researched
21:29
@Oak the problem with that is, it'll be back.
and the right answer is buried a little bit
@Ktash pretty pictures also strongly attract upvotes
@BenBrocka heh, it's true
man, I need to find some way to get some screenshots in ME3 posts...
Oak
Oak
@agent86 ooo I just imaged a handheld made of cool liquid metal thingie that can change shape, create a physical keyboard, make the display larger, etc.
Will solve Raven's problems
21:30
@RavenDreamer RIP
Okay, new plan, I post a question for a not that popular game that I know and see which answer gets the most vote.
@BenBrocka I call dibs on his TV
It needs to be so specific it couldn't be anything else.

Q: Do I earn enough skill points to unlock everything?

DMA57361I'd like to know if I should expect enough skill points to unlock most of the skills, or if I;m only going to get enough to specialise to the end of a few skill paths. So, how many skill points are available in total at max level? And, how many would I need to unlock everything available to Comm...

Q: Can't you all just get along?

MDMarraI'm not sure if you guys are aware, but whenever someone flags something in The Bridge, that flag is shown to all moderators and all 10k users across the network. 9 times out of 10 there is nothing offensive about what is flagged. Flagging isn't meant to be used when you disagree with something...

@Lazers lol
21:33
@Lazers And so Server Fault is lashing out at us for our flagging rates.
yeah, I'm hardly ever here but it seems like this is where all the flags come from
@Jimmy Because we have a...special user.
Not just one user says the kind of stuff that gets flagged.
@Ullallulloo We don't, people just think he is.
@RonanForman I was joking. :P
21:35
The problem isn't just the posters but also the flaggers
@Ulla Don't, people will believe you.
@Lazers I'm glad he posted that, I was thinking of raising the issue myself
@GraceNote No, but just one user gets consistently flagged for it.
That's the point.
@GraceNote The solution is less flags, not more.
Let's all flag @Lazers!
4
@DaveMcClelland Not the worst idea.
Darn ME3 spam.
21:39
@DaveMcClelland What if we get him suspended and he has to wait an hour to post new questions?
@Lazers Honestly, this should be a good support for escalating chat flags
It would post like eleven billion questions
@BenBrocka Lazers spits in the face of your flags!
@BenBrocka Then @Lazers would get banned for chat spam, I'd assume
I'm fairly sure negative users are exempt from rate limiting. Flags, I wouldn't know.
21:42
@ArdaXi Then I'll amend my comment from a minute ago
Let's all flag @Lazers! For Science!
Actually I think I flagged an annoying feed thinking it was a spam bot a long time ago
I just served my first ever suspension for something completely non-flag-worthy.
Oak
Oak
@DaveMcClelland please don't. It will spam everyone in chat, needlessly
(In seriousness, Feeds and its mutant offspring can't be flag-banned, though you can flag their posts)
I might have said and immediately deleted a few flag-worthy things just before that, though.
21:43
...which is kinda true, but they're officially sanctioned spam-bots
@Oak I wasn't actually going to, but I am tempted to experiment
Apparently Unity3D is giving out free licenses until April 8th.
@Oak wait, really?
@BenBrocka That's what flags do.
@BenBrocka That's why a ServerFault dude's up in our meta.
21:47
@BenBrocka That's how I got here...but I like you guys so I stayed!
Chat flags are shown to all network-wide 10k's.
Nvm, I was thinking of something else. I know how the mod notices work
@Ullallulloo All 10ks and all Blues (mods)
You guys are like the house on the block that is always making too much noise at night and the police have to come over to break up the party
@Jimmy this is why us mods should get tear gas
For Justice
21:48
@Jimmy Well, hey, at least it makes us popular. Any publicity is good publicity.
Desura has such a sweet games list.
SE has a budget for teargas, right?
All kinds of indies you never see on Steam.
@ArdaXi Isn't that the 4chan model of thinking?
@BenBrocka We usually use replica reaper guns, it seems.
21:50
@TylerShads shhhhh don't say that name or you'll wake the Nameless Ones
@ArdaXi Well, flags or otherwise, Lazers is definitely immune to chat suspension, I've discovered.
or vitas; they apparently are effective
@Jimmy This isn't Azeroth
@GraceNote But you can kill it
Yeah, that's not gonna happen.
@TylerShads Not sure if insult...
@GraceNote Nepotism.
21:51
> Based on the graphics and the fact that this is rogue-esque if not rogue-like i was ready to love it. Then I was fighting a mole and the game informed me that my trousers were destroyed. It was a fabulously comic moment (at least that first time) but I prefer rogue-likes where my equipment doesn't fall to pieces 5 minutes' later.
I think there should be a reputation requirement to be allowed to vote on big site issues like ITG.
People who aren't invested in the site are going to choose based on what benefits them, not what benefits the site.
@ArdaXi I had to look that up.
Really? Oh... right... you don't play Portal.
I think the accurate term would've been "haven't".
With an appropriate tense change
@GraceNote Nice catch.
21:54
@StrixVaria I'm interested to see how this pans out for the bigger sites like here and lit, as about 20% of movies (in beta) is identify this movie/tv series
@ArdaXi Thank you
@GraceNote Still, no. Haven't played means you haven't in the past. Don't play means you haven't and still don't.
With a strong indication you won't in the future.
I'm not talking only about ITG, but I mean the general process for deciding things that are for the good of the site should prohibit users who don't care about the good of the site.
@GraceNote Pssh, I said that entire minutes ago!
Maybe using a 3rd party app or something to check on your reputation before you vote hint @agent86
21:55
Also, it's Friday and I'd very much like to go home now...argh.
@StrixVaria What should the limit be?
@GnomeSlice That I can't say definitively yet. Maybe around 300 rep?
What's the limit for voting for moderators?
@BenBrocka That seems really low :(
Mod votes are supposed to be by the community, not the in-crowd
21:57
@Strix It's just to stop temp accounts.
granted, that does bring some voters who have no idea who these nominated people are, but that doesn't seem to be a huge problem
user30
@Ronan How did you do yesterday?
On another note, I'm surprised there are no downvotes on either answer yet.
Oak
Oak
@StrixVaria not possible with 3rd-party tools, since voting is anonymous
@ArdaXi I don't think that "don't" necessarily implies that the situation has always been the case.
Oak
Oak
21:58
@StrixVaria yea, people are surprisingly well-behaved!
@Oak Voting could still be mostly anonymous.
@Thomas 5 As. You?
@GraceNote Oh, yeah, you're right.
Only the owner of the app would have access to the voters.
I'm not saying that's a perfect solution.
Oak
Oak
So, I made this previously:
21:59
I just think there should be some rep threshold to be able to vote on really big issues.
I don't know how to implement it.
Oak
Oak
I have another one now:
Game on! perhaps?
Anyway, time to head home from work.
Later everybody!
