@murgatroid99 AWS is much more expensive than renting dedicated servers (it also provides something different, so it's not an entirely fair comparison)
@MadScientist If you have dedicated servers, then you have to pay more people to do hosting related work, which leaves less money for whatever your company actually does
Yeah, but it's only S3 in us-east, and presumably CloudFront isn't down, so this still seems like an odd problem for some of these larger orgs to be having
@GodEmperorDune traffic is extremely expensive with AWS. The amount of traffic included in a 50-100 EUR dedicated server costs several thousand euros at AWS
@murgatroid99 Someone has to manage EC2 instances as well. There are benefits to stuff like S3 and RDS in avoiding a lot of sysadmin stuff, but you can't avoid it all
It is somewhat surprising that these larger companies don't have cross-region replication, but that's the kind of thing that you realize is a problem when an outage like this happens
@murgatroid99 the ones i've used market it as a cost saving thing. you can pay more for putting stuff in different regions or save by putting it in the cheapest region
Azure storage blobs do replication automatically (kind of like a RAID0 but not as a raid but on a completely different part of the datacenter usually. It's weird.), you just have to pay more for it to be out of datacenter or country, or that continent.
I'm no AWS expert but they probably do something similar too
I mean, Google App Engine also does cross-region replication, but Google Cloud Engine doesn't presumably because you're working with individual VMs at that point
@MadScientist actually it does. It's just that the microsoft azure inner workings are a huge BS (which is why I don't use it) and it's hard to understand or explain.

I keep losing health and I thought it was a bugged mission, so I went back to a previous save. However, it happens in every save, I tried asking the Discussion on Steam, and someone told me to type ~ and type disable then enable.
It keeps happening, I really don't know what's going on.

yay, i got Chrono Cross for DS, NTSC Copy but my DS Lite doesn't have region locking so it's ok. it's been so long since i played it for SNES but i still remember most of it....except for how i ended up in Zeal or arrived in the Prehistoric Era as apart of the plot (though i remember most of the key events in both)
@BlueBarren I'm more than happy to buy a game more than once if it means supporting an indie dev. I own Inside on two platforms, as well as Darkest Dungeon, and Ori and the Blind Forest.

Speaking of YNAB, I set up a recurring paycheck transaction and I think it just popped today. Do I have to reallocate budget to account for that or does something magical happened when March rolls over tomorrow?

personally, most of my stuff is in scheduled transactions and everything else is set up with goals, so i can just go through the yellow categories and allocate what is needed
in fact, you can just click the right arrow to get to the budget for march and do it ahead of time
importing transactions is much easier than adding everything manually and you can just import as far back as your bank keeps the records
@Yuuki your online bank should have download transactions option which downloads a file with just the transaction info, no actual bank account info is needed
I doubt you can even give bank account info to YNAB

I guess my father would just drop by his mothers place on the way to work to steal food for lunch. he wouldn't even always tell her. He'd just swing by, grab whatever was in the fridge / freezer, and she wouldn't know until she went to grab the food and it was gone.

I want to calculate the damage per second of unarmed attacks in Skyrim. While it's easy to find information on the damage values, for instance on the UESP wiki, I haven't been able to find information on how fast you attack unarmed compared to other weapons.
How fast do characters make unarmed...
When I try to get the minecraft forge installer it downloads as a zip and when I open it, I see nothing that I can use to actually run forge. When I looked at a tutorial I saw that it should be a picture of a coffee mug which is java I assume, and I am just confused. Someone please help
