@Nzall We're just facepalming and being somewhat scared by the stupid. And trying to joke it of as a bad dream.
Trump has already established that he will have an isolationist policy. he's shutting down immigration, ending certain trade agreements and generally plans to make America less dependent on other countries.
Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, the Paris climate agreement takes a hit because of that, but we will find other markets
@Nzall he said he'll do that
I think we should just wait and see
now we'll see if that was just lies too
i mean he lied about pretty much everything else
why would he change on campaign promises
@GodEmperorDune And in case it's more lies, is that really that big of an issue? I mean, that's just the status quo
09:04
@GodEmperorDune make responsibility great again
Also note that Trump is unlikely to start any wars himself. I mean, both Putin and Kim Jong Un supported his candidacy, so he may not be likely to start a war with them. He may revert the nuclear agreement with Iran, but that's not too big a deal either
White women voted 52% for Trump
they just like to be manhandled you know
pounded in the butt by the pound and whatnot
also, starting wars is a responsibility of congress. Trump himself has little authority on the matter
hey
the president is red
house is red
senate is red
they have absolutely 0 excuses for anything
09:08
Oh he's pledged to overturn gay marriage. Missed that one.
@fredley ಠ_ಠ
I mean okay
the president is orange
but you get what I mean
so @KevinvanderVelden how does it feel to no longer be orange country
@Nzall you can launch nukes or send troops in to attack things before congress signs off on it
like if theresa may tweeted that he was a loser or something
boom, brexit nothing to worry about anymore
@badp I do, but believe me, after a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan, I doubt the American people and congress wants to start yet another drawn-out war
I doubt many things
fat good it has done for me
09:10
@fredley The US is going straight back to the stone age.
I wonder what'll happen when he manages to reset his Twitter password
true. We doubted Brexit will happen. We doubted Trump would become president. But seriously, if Trump really is that bad of a president, we just need to last 4 years without any major events and then vote him out again
@Nzall Everyone doubted brexit and president trump would happen too. DIdn't stop them.
@Nzall 4 years is a loooooong time.
he even said he was brexit +++
@Arperum 4 entire 2016s
@fredley 2016 did contain something awesome for me though. I got the most awesome girlfriend this year.
Maybe you'll end up with five girlfriends!
@fredley But I don't want five of them. I just want to keep this one.
@badp it's terrible. But not because we're no longer the orange country but because trump got elected. EVERYTHING IS NOW TERRIBLE
> For energy, he plans to do the exact opposite of what would be required to address climate change
So @KevinvanderVelden prepare to get flooded...
09:18
@KevinvanderVelden that's not the right way to look at it
everything already was terrible
@Arperum it's okay, I'm slightly above sea level
the way in which we found out that everything already was terrible also was terrible
@KevinvanderVelden I'm 40+ m above.
@badp in comparison to the new levels of terrible they weren't
@KevinvanderVelden If sea level is going to rise a couple meters you might not be anymore.
09:19
Holy hell
@arda That's not good.
Yeah, it's weird
I blame titanium backup
@Arperum I'm... 4+ meters above
Where the + is 0.85
I forgot if I'm 42 or 48 meters above.
42 would be perfect.
I lost control. F--
09:24
@arda What do you mean, you lost control?
09:36
I lost control of my thoughts. I let the dark side of my brain control my actions. I managed to pull myself together before stuff got too much out of hand, but well, I basically lost the war in my head
Ugh, this is just so frustrating. I'm trying to find the bright side behind this whole disaster, and the best I can think of is "maybe his entire policy is a lie"
That's even worse
@arda ouch. You mean you almost killed yourself over this?
@Nzall Maybe not so blunt.
@Nzall I was just like "Well, at least concentration camps won't happen because they'd be instantly filmed now-a-days"
(and that was one of the reasons it got so far AFAIK, nobody could believe it)
09:39
Also, Obamacare will most likely be repealed as well
@Nzall not just this, but a lot of stuff
@KevinvanderVelden They're called conversion therapy camps now.
@Ronan there's decidedly less killing in them (not none to be fair)
There's a lot of suicide in them though.
@KevinvanderVelden there is same amount of killing
What is living outside when you are dead inside?
What is life if you can't be what you want, even when it is completely reasonable?
09:41
Hard, but not worthless
Whatever I'm off
@arda You need to get out of Turkey right now, it's destroying you.
I need to keep my heartrate under control
@Nzall yes, but where should I go? See: brexit, trump
I do not belong here, and I'm not welcome on other places either.
@arda Come to Belgium. We have a large Turkish community in Ghent
Also lots of Turkish people in dutchlandia
09:45
We are everywhere :p
Yeah. the UK and the USA are not the only places where you can come to
Thats not my point
Also, if you have a problem you want to talk about, we're here for you
People worldwide was getting more and more accepting, and its now tanking down
Or it's becoming more pronounced because you can see the difference
09:47
This is how the millennials voted. Hoping this means the next generation will turn this planet around https://t.co/TZrUv4LEbz
As in, if everything is dark you don't see it nearly as much
By the time I get 18 (2 yrs), idk if Germany, dutchland or Belgium will do their own national thingy
in Tavern on the Meta on Meta Stack Exchange Chat, 49 mins ago, by Derpy
@Bart In a world that forgot how to smile, people won't strive to be happy. They will just be fine with being less unhappy than the others, at the cost of making the others unhappy themselves if necessary.
The uncertainty is killing mr
let my hr go too high and im also dying for that. Afk
What the actual fuck is wrong with the world right now. Seriously.
I shouldn't have checked my phone when I got up to use the bathroom, becuase there's now way I'm going back to sleep now
09:51
Yeaaah, I'm happy I went to bed before results started coming in
Thinking about my daughter right now. No little girl will ever again have to wonder whether she, too, can be presid… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/796162901539164160
I should've stayed home
And calmed
Sorry, but now she knows it's probably never going to happen
School stuff just came on top of elections and ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
CLinton looks like she hasn't made any comment yet, from what Ic an see
09:52
@Wipqozn Dayyyyyyyyymmm
So trump won. Brexit passed. Erdogan is going to switch away from democracy. Nice year.
@arda Well apparantly democracy isn't all it's cracked up to be anyways
Meh, today was supposed to be a good day
I was supposed to wake up and watch hillary's victory speech, I was going to start checking sat too. I guess not.
@arda Go check sat and calm down.
I was going to celebrate today by announcing something, I actually did preps too (and executed the first part, then reverted it) but meh, USA made the choice.
10:00
@arda awww. Don't let stupid US stop you from doing stuff.

Q: How different is Freeciv from the original Civilization game?

Samuel T. MaddoxFrom time to time, I want to play a game of Civilization, and give Freeciv a try. But every time I play it feels much harder and very very different than Civilization 1 or 2. I'm not a Civilization expert, so I'm asking the question here to see if I'm wrong about this.

@Arperum I dont have that kind of money. Hillary's education reform was supposed to help. Nor do I have patience to deal with Islamophobes.
How you holding up @fredley? This is basically Brexit all over again for you.
@Lazers2.0 WHat is the official stand on comparing games?
@Arperum acceptance and humanism is just getting worse and worse and I don't want to deal with more stress by that.
10:02
@Arperum I think it's fine
oh no but hmm
not in this case, I think
@Wipqozn I think itd be too broad
@Yuuki I plan to take full advantage of this.
I'm gonna do some mindless things because fuck thinking right now
Mostly to cover up my own pain, though
@GodEmperorDune Thanks
@KevinvanderVelden Move the rest of the base to the snake. Mine out the inside of the blood altar building.
Mine 100k netherrack by hand?

Q: Class rank in Battlefield 1, is it per operation?

Lasse V. KarlsenWe played Battlefield 1 on monday in a group and I noticed that my medic class got to about midway between rank 0 and 1 up in the left corner during one operation. The operation ended and we started a new one and I noticed that my rank progress was reset, no progress between 0 and 1. So my ques...

@Arperum he could do like a youtuber that shall remain unnamed and try to set up a item sorting system build from about an hundred hoppers and too many of sorting pipes instead of using a single ME storage...
Jokes on you, ME isn't in the pack we play
Weirdly enough, he said that framerates drops whenever he gets near the sort room.
Maybe, using crystal chests wasn't that brilliant idea it seemed before.
@Arperum I was gonna be productive and sort a trunk full of new tools
But that also works
@Derpy Was that Duncan from the Yogcast? It was hilarous when he accidentally used a lumber axe to clear out some wood near that
10:17
@Nzall I will just say that you shouldn't use a water pool that use water current to drive all dropped items to a single (or maybe three) central hoppers that go in a nice hopper hell to some obsidian chests......
then proceed to kill 10 KINGS at the same time and expect the server to handle it well...
@KevinvanderVelden I logged in for a second this weekend and noticed you had moved part of it.
I have, I also created autocrafting for storage disks
Nnnn.. I know I shouldn't ask what pack you're using...
The 1.10 hermitpack thing
But I don't have enough time....
10:20
That's okay, you can come live with us in the giant snake city
Nooooo......
@KevinvanderVelden I should get back to building more snake.
@Ronan Yes! We have guardians in boats every so often too.
It's kinda funny to find.
Also annoying though.
Also we have ghasts spawning in our city occasinoally
That is not how you write that word but I'll leave it there
Yes. I have no idea why the things spawn though.
10:52
Anti Trump protests starting already
Or wait, is politics off topic now?
Don't worry about a thing 'Cause every little thing gonna be alt-right :(
@Ronan :(
My fancy new monitor arrived!

11:10
Just don't let monkeys or AI on there
Kaz
Kaz
@Nzall You're presuming that the people who voted Johnson would have voted Hilary instead. The impression I got was that his supporters were at least half Trump.
@Ronan yay!
@Kaz Yeah, I spoke to some Johnson supporters. They were mostly GOPpers who couldn't face Trump. They'd never vote Hillary.
I mean, those specific people, not all Johnson voters
@fredley It's fancy in that it's bigger, but mainly that it actually works.
@Ronan How many dpis does it have?
11:26
I can't find where it says, but it's a 21.5" 1080p monitor so I'm sure I can work it out.
Also it seems it only has a single button on it, navigating the menus is difficult.
@Ronan How does that even work? Press to power on/off, then...?
Do you tap out the menu item you want in Morse code?
Press brings up the menu and cycles the options, hold turns it off.
It's not a good system.
So I just woke up... America... What the hell have you done...
@sequoiad it's became great again.....which isn't saying much when being great can just a small improvement to what it was before
You may have actually just doomed your own economy... And everyone else's
11:34
@sequoiad i'm not american

Q: Why are some races worth more trophies than others?

msg45fAt my current rank in Land 5, 1st place in some races awards 120 trophies while others seem to reward 80 trophies. Why are some races worth more than others?

@Memor-X i know. Just think of it as preemptive revenge for all those brexit jokes the UK people have heard
But seriously... America, are you actually that stupid...
@sequoiad Apparently.
Kaz
Kaz
11:52
@sequoiad Dismissing 150 Million people's opinions as *stupid* is how you got Trump in the first place. It's not a helpful sentiment.
@Kaz There were less than 60 million trump voters. That is not related to the150 million you mention.
Anyone who did not vote cannot be counted for either side.
Kaz
Kaz
@Arperum I assumed the population-at-large is probably going to mirror the population-eligible-to-vote
@Kaz Yea, and people assumed the population at large would vote like the polls suggested. See how that turned out.
ALso: population eligible to vote is seriously different from population that voted.
Kaz
Kaz
@Arperum Not in any way that we can say with certainty.
@Kaz Uhm... Are you saying that there was a voter turnout of > 99%?
Kaz
Kaz
11:56
@Arperum I'm saying the only *real* evidence we have is that a sample of 120 Million Americans voted 50/50
@Kaz the way I see it, and I may be wrong, is that the way we got here is by being somehow surprised at the fourth or so victory in general elections of a party of beautiful lies in recent history
Kaz
Kaz
So it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume the rest of america probably falls in the same proportions
@Kaz and that sample could have been just 2 people
@badp What do we do though? How do you get a system where lies don't work?
sure, some people needed 22 years of smear campaigns before they finally were ready to give into the beautiful lies
Kaz
Kaz
11:58
@Memor-X Sure, but it wasn't. You get a big enough sample, and you can make better predictions about the overall population
@fredley I think this is the discussion we were having this morning on twitter
@fredley heavily penalize lies
@Kaz Still a prediction/assumption.
we need to have a better discourse
11:59
As in, if you're running for politician, get a heavy fine for every lie you tell
@KevinvanderVelden 50% of your total capital?
@KevinvanderVelden How do you prove it's a lie? With a court?
@Arperum I wouldn't go that drastic
'cos those are expensive
we need to have a system where "meme magic" is recognised as such and moderated accordingly
11:59
@KevinvanderVelden Then they probably will
@Kaz Yes. And I'm saying that that is not the same as all eligible people voting.
we need to get to a point where newspapers don't run a story on FBI emails for a week for lack of other things to talk about
and people DEMAND things to talk about
Kaz
Kaz
@Arperum Fine. *some* proportion of americans, which is at least 60M people, supported Trump. Dismissing said 60M people as *stupid* or *mislead* or *uninformed* or (whatever the deplorable adjective of the day is) is a big part of why you now have a Trump presidency. If you'd like to stop it happening again in 4 years, maybe you should start listening to these people, rather than dismissing them.
how does that Comey person even have a joke
@Kaz See, now you're using actual numbers instead of (maybe not-so-)wild assumptions.
12:03
remember when more than half of all Italians were dumb enough to vote for Berlusconi three whole times
spoiler alert
more than half of all Italians were actually dumb
most of them still are
source: am an Italian
@Kaz I don't even care about being fair anymore.
@badp Obviously Big Comedy is rigging the system
and the new party of beautiful lies is very close to leading polls again
because we didn't learn our lesson
because we are still dumb
This is like people who say "surely more than half of the UK can't be xenophobe"
says who?
maybe it is a mistake to say that people who did something xenophobic are tout court xenophobes
but the difference is rather subtle
and if that difference is your point, I'll give it to you
> "Civilisation is a race between education and catastrophe" H G Wells.
Kaz
Kaz
@sequoiad I don't give a damn about being fair. I'm saying that if you think a Trump presidency is bad, what are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about all the people who heard you saying that voting for Trump is the height of idiocy, and voted for him anyway.
12:06
doing something dumb and being dumb are different
@Kaz we tried to talk about this at length before the vote. This exhausted our duty. What's left is to point and laugh.
Kaz
Kaz
Because I don't think telling them that they're idiots is going to change their minds.
@badp Or maybe you could try listening rather than talking.
@Kaz Today, there is nothing anyone can do
@badp Many people weren't voting because of xenophobia. Many of them voted for Brexit because they were promised to have more autonomy from the EU and the many regulations that they felt were stifling their work enviroment and economy
What has happened has happened.
@Nzall Crazy how lies do dat
12:08
I'm not trying to change their minds... They made it now deal with it and make a better one next time
If you wanted to be listened, you should have made yourself heard when it mattered, before the vote
Now, the election is in the past
I was arguing with the developer who chose Angular 2 for our frontend
Meanwhile Australia is still like wtf?
We have our own problems and you may or may not have added yourself to the list of problems we have
He told me it was "the future of frontend development" to which I replied that if this was the future, I don't want to be a frontend developer anymore
12:09
Same with Trump, his multidisciplined hatred is only a part of his discourse. he also promised more low-education jobs and massive infrastructure improvements
@PrivatePansy Then what should he have used?
I'm the meantime, are political jokes now not allowed or can us "brexitlanders" point and laugh?
you can't seriously make a problem out of something without suggesting a solution and expect to be taken seriously
@Nzall For the previous project I used Vue 2. It was my first time building a non-trivial application using a reactive frontend framework. It was good, I actually enjoyed using it.
@sequoiad We have been making jokes about politics and this joke of an election ever since the polls closed.
@Nzall and Hitler brought economic gain and stability to post WW1/Great Depression Germany
12:11
@Nzall too bad that if you still wish to do commerce with Europe, you still need to put up with the same set of onerous rules -- nothing has changed there
There was almost no learning curve, and everything just clicked. Writing Angular 2 code on the other hand makes me die a little with every line of code written.
@Nzall you are going to be paying for your autonomy from the EU -- as the country that already had an extraordinary amount of autonomy from the EU -- by being excluded in the discourse that leads to those onerous rules that you still have to abide with
also some of those onerous regulations involve the free movement of people
@PrivatePansy so you used Vue 2. I never heard of that framework before. Angular is a frequently used framework and many developers have experience with that
it would be disingenuous to pretend otherwise
The reactive system and data flow within the framework makes no sense. The template language throws separation of concerns out of the window and makes me feel like I'm writing HTML 10 years ago. The framework itself is verbose and bloated, and has terrible performance. The documentation reads like it was written by a student.
12:13
at any rate again this is a thing of the past
now it's the hands of MPs
@PrivatePansy You're verbose and bloated.
@badp Yeah, basically we'll still have to live by the laws, in general, but will have no say in making them
success
@badp who are entirely trustworthy. Right? Right? Oh...
Looks like the Canadian immigration site is still down
@sequoiad No. Alt-right.
Cameron had stricken a deal that gave the UK additional extraordinary autonomy from the EU
to a level that genuinely irked me
12:15
@Wipqozn STOP TRYING TO IMMIGRATE TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY THEN.
somehow this wasn't good enough for you
and maybe it is because you didn't actually manage to get any concession on the matter of immigration
Or is there some "adopt an american" part of that immigration site?
@Wipqozn Google trends has a spike in searches for 'move to X' in general
because you see, when immigrants crash into the shores of Sicily, it's totally fair to dump the entire problem on Italy
see if Italy really didn't WANT to have this issue they'd just move the islands further north
silly Italy!
and silly Greece!
@fredley There was room for a 'your mom' joke here, but that was taken up by the layer of abstraction Angular wrote over the entire browser platform API
12:17
so dumb and stupid!
@badp Just build a wall. Isn't it obvious?
@Arperum we're not the netherlands
we don't know how to build walls in the sea
@PrivatePansy Angular is literally the worst
so I guess what I'm saying is
12:18
@badp it was rediculous... we already sat so hard on the fence... Then complained that said fence was uncomfortable and jumped off into a sewer
if you want to ride on your mighty white "you should have listened" horse
by all means, talk us through the thought process
but don't stop at "you should have listened"
I mean, I thought the browser is the platform. The Angular platform API leaks so much it's not even funny.
then we can have a discussion on the actual merits
in a twist that shocks absolutely no one from Italy
see also, movimento 5 stelle
"YOU SEE THOSE SILVER LINES IN THE SEA YEAH THAT'S CHEM TRAILS" --stuff actual human beings said
I listened to their insane nonsensical garbage all right
as it turns out it still is insane nonsensical garbage
as spewed by what actually is or is very close to being the #1 party in Italy
12:25
@Arperum but I want to :(
@Robotnik I bet. The scary part is if anti-trump folks really do leave the USA en-masse then things will only get worse.

Q: Rejecting an offer of a peace treaty

Jim ReynoldsAn AI nation starts a surprise war against me, and later asks for a peace treaty. Does rejecting such an offer influence warmongering penalties or upset other AI players?

There we go
That's....kind of reassuring. I guess.
Like a very small amount
this is so fucked up

@Sterno Thanks
12:33
@Wipqozn that analysis is fascinating, but let's not fool ourselves that "lol racism" isn't a large part of it. We have our very own witness, @GodEmperorDune
5 hours ago, by GodEmperorDune
They are saying "no muslims, no blacks, we took our country back"
@badp Oh it definitely is
you can fool yourself and forget all of that stuff about muslims
But at least maybe not 49% of the country? I hope?
@Wipqozn we need to get over the preconception that half of the population can't be racist
there are racist fucks voting for all parties
@badp also holy fuck. I saw a tweet about that, but thought wasn't sure if true because...well, internet, but jesus
12:35
this already was real in the UK
real people really did get really harassed for real for the crime of being really poles in the real UK, for real
The main reason why we didn't notice how many racists there are before is because they didn't have a central platform before Trump
but actually
@badp Don't trust the polls
it's about ethics about game journalism
And we saw a massive upturn in racially motivated crimes
12:36
@fredley 538 warned us all along
70/30 is way different from "it's in the bag"
In the UK after the vote... Several of my work colleagues got threatened repeatedly out on the streets
it's no surprise that humans suck as statistics, which is why I've always been trying to calculate the equivalent russian roulette game
Oct 19 at 11:39, by badp
@PrivatePansy Trump still has only slightly worse odds than russian roulette
this was at peak clinton
Oct 27 at 14:35, by badp
YOU WOULDN'T PLAY
      RUSSIAN ROULETTE
but again none of this matters now
If you look at the Netherlands, Geert Wilders is a giant racist and you should see how big his party is. If you look at France, Marine Lepen also has racist tendencies and is a major player in the French elections. Bart Dewever and Filip Dewinter, the 2 main racist parties in Belgium, together have well over 30% of the votes
yesterday's gone and today's now
God I'm so happy that when Harper tried to run his 2015 campaign with bigotry as a major thing, Canada said "No"
12:50
lol theresa may
omg
youtube.com/watch?v=y60wDzZt8yg go back a couple minutes to listen to her statement
and then the answer to the interviewer's question
excellent stuff
@badp Ugh, not available in my country
@PrivatePansy pretty much went like this
"We congratulate president elect Trump. US and UK are close partners. We have a long and strong relationship based on values of freedom, democracy enterprise"
"Yes but what about what women, muslims and wa--"
"I look forward to working with president elect Trump. US and UK are close partners. We have a long and strong relationship based on values of freedom, democracy enterprise"
@badp sick burns
@fredley follows 15 minutes of analysis of the statement
12:54
@badp as is tradition
"I asked her about women, and muslims and the wall, but she emphasised instead that US and UK are close partners and that they have a long and strong relationship based on values of freedom, democracy enterprise"
excellent stuff, 10/10
Also, when asked about local LGBT rights, our PM basically said (translated from politi-speak) that all we need to do is wait for the older generation to die out before the government will do something.
> Using the closing moments of her speech to tout her credentials, the Queen made it clear that she has never used e-mail and has only had sex with one person “very occasionally.”
