super crate box question you might know the answer to...
aww, I guess he left.
So that's why my well reservoir wouldn't fill up. Dwarves were using it as its own water source.
Okay, seeing as for some reason I can't get onto my favourite minecraft SMP server, lets try to learn DF
@RonanForman If you run into any trouble, you know where to ask.
Oh, it's dangerous to go alone. Take this.
@ArdaXi Yup, anywhere but to you.
You've already linked me that.
Have I? Well, it's brilliant.

Q: What are the other game modes, and can they be unlocked in any other way?

Doozer BlakeIn the IOS version of Super Crate Box, what are the other game modes that can be unlocked: SMFT, and Ambush? I'm not even close to the requirement to unlock them on any map, and I'm wondering what I'm missing out on. Are there any known shortcuts/cheats to unlock the other modes?

If you want a reasonably doable game, use the world gen included in the LNP
This is taking ages to download, what gives?
What is?
The LNP
Hm...
17:17
That's odd, I'm only getting 5 mb/s I normally get around 10, that probably explains why SMP wasn't working.
Brother's not stealing it, no one's jacking our signal I don't know what I could be.
well, download rate isn't all on your end; every hop in between you and the final server (and the server itself) has to sustain that rate in order for you to get it.
so if the server the LNP is on is overloaded or otherwise throttling you, you won't saturate your connection.
It's not LNP its all my internet, figures, my ISP is a dick.

Hurray - I emailed yet another game developer to get an answer for a question here, and once again, I got a helpful response! :D
@ArdaXi Where'd you get that isometric dwarf thing from?
@AshleyNunn Indie game dev?
user15026
@RonanForman Yeah, in this case. Although Big Fish Games is also very helpful when you email them, and not indie.

I just like that they take the time to respond. I am happily surprised every time.

Ashley NunnIn Fluff Friends Rescue, sometimes a message pops up above a pet that is either in a Vet Station, Food Station, Fun Station or Grooming Station that says "Tap to Nurture". fireDude67If I go to the End, and bring the things I need to create a portal with me, where will my portal to the Nether go? Will it even spawn at all?

17:49
@RonanForman Same LNP.
Use LNP to launch DF, then in the console enter ssense.
Is this a good place?
aww
Turns out my one favourite game reviewer is either going to stop doing game reviews at all or will do so in a site... too mainstream? I dunno.
@badp he's moving to penny arcade, and those guys tend to know what they're doing. I think it'll be fine.
@agent86 I'm mostly thinking in terms of "can I have a RSS feed with just the stuff he writes"
the PA post about it seemed to indicate they had a lot of respect for him. I don't think they're going to change his work.
eh, yeah, I'm sure one will exist. they've got a bunch of diff. feeds. if not, someone will script it.
17:56
The guys at PA? They'll probably let him have free rein. The audience? Not so sure
@RonanForman Aww, nobody responded. That looks great to me.

Why is nobody asking about the PC Super Crate Box?
@ArdaXi Thanks for the iso thing, this makes it so much easier.
18:02
@RonanForman Really? To me it's more of a novelty thing.
It easier to see what stuff means than a tileset.
True. You learn that soon enough though.
18:39
hmm, dragon age 1&2 for $12
pc and not steam though
@agent86 gross
Why does everyone hate stuff that isn't steam?
The only thing I like about steam is that it lets other people see what I'm playing, and that I don't need to download things all at once.
@GnomeSlice I, for one, love the automatic updates
@JuanManuel That's nice too, I suppose. Although it would prefer if it told me there was an update available, but didn't start it until I allowed it.
@GnomeSlice to me, it's the install the client once and play anywhere aspect. plus that I get the mac edition when I buy the PC edition usually. That and the patching, oh god the patching. Company of Heroes, I rebought on steam simply because the patching was so horrible from the disc install.
it's also nice to have everything in the same library, and the sales are usually really good
18:44
@GnomeSlice Seems a bit broad there
@GnomeSlice you can set it like that
and I don't hate other things, with the exception of maybe origin. F----, would not install again.
I'm pretty sure I own the digital download for AoE3 via some microsoft promotion, but I'd gladly put the key in steam if it would let me, just so I don't have to manage that account as well
I do like that everything is tied to your steam client too, but I've never found Steam to actually be that reliable.
never really had a problem with steam, except when traveling internationally and in the hour after a new megasale is posted
@agent86 The client crashes regularly, and refuses to do things sometimes.
It's not designed for people with slow connections.
18:47
your anecdotal evidence conflicts with my anecdotal evidence! the only way to settle this is to shout at each other until we're both hoarse, or one of us is elected to political office. ROUND 1: FIGHT!
Eh, you win.
@GnomeSlice have you tried running it in offline mode?
@IanPugsley That kind of defeats the purpose entirely.
I'd just run the game independant of steam in that case.
@GnomeSlice ah, so you're using it mostly for telling people what you're playing
you could try setting up IP blocks for their ad/image servers in Peerblock
@IanPugsley I have a lot of games that weren't downloaded through Steam. Although, I do have quite a few Steam games too.
I've just never found steam easy to use. I don't even know how to run it in offline mode.

Evgeni B.I murdered one of the thalmor guards at the Jarl's place in Markarth. Slit his throat. It was an act of hatred, I admit. After the murder the two other elves went searching, didn't see me and returened to pacing around as usual. I got no bounty on me. But whenever they see me, they start attackin...

and I think that the range on that flamethrower must be further
that guy was using it at a crazy range
19:44
@OrigamiRobot two can play that game (and probably many more too)
(1/4 means he attacks for 1 and has 4 life points right? I've only had a superficial intro to Magic)
@badp It's not so much "life points" but more that he can block attacks up to that damage
It doesn't get decreased after blocking an attack
Okay. That's the point anyway
what are we talking about?
haha nice
19:50
@badp if he was smart he would have posted the SE set image I spent laborious hours (really minutes) on
I probably fail by making the lore text actually relevant. :P
Power/Toughness, technically, but yes
@badp you could have done "Zombie Treefolk Mod" as the creature type for funsies :p
I don't think Treefolk was in the list of stock creature types.
Should be "Legendary Creature - Fallen Tree" but who is nit-picking :P
19:52
ugh, magic is one area in which I have no knowledge or interest. I have friends who do, but it's not my bag, baby!
I imagine calling a tree a creature is already an abuse of the word
@agent86 I've never played a game in my life.
@OrigamiRobot I dunno. He certainly was legendary but then he fell!
The tree is perfectly standing anyway.
also, when it was popular I was still a kid whose parents thought magic == witchcraft. They wouldn't let me play final fantasy at first because of the "black magic" in it
D&D and MtG were right out
19:54
@ArdaXi I find the second panel to be... unexciting
@agent86 it's never too late to start
@badp and yours used the colored artifact scheme for some reason..weird
Does the game end in a win by the developers by TKO? (Crash)
@agent86 But Witchcraft is fun!
@OrigamiRobot I guess I forced it because I felt like it
I dunno what an artifact is anyway!
19:55
@badp Second panel?
@badp Just a card type
@GraceNote I know! they were afraid it would turn me into a satan worshipper.
@ArdaXi There are three dots below the "ARE YOU MAN OR MACHINE". Clicking on the third links to a comic.
The second gave me a black screen.
I enjoy lots of witchcraft but y'don't see me all Satan-worshipping like that!
@agent86 I got this look from my wife's mom (gf back then) when I mentioned I played Magic
19:56
And why do I still have a Southern accent in my mental vocalization?
@OrigamiRobot I imagine a card type distinct from 'creature'
@IanPugsley at this point, my free time and discretionary income level is so low that I have to have a pretty extreme ratio of price+time to enjoyment to do anything in particular
@badp You can have an Artifact Creature
@badp there can be Artifact Creatures
0
Q: Making a follower a blade and then using them still?

RyanIs it possible to make a follower a member of the blades, yet still be able to have them follow you to aid you on your quests?

19:57
Artifact is basically colorless - it's something that's manufacted rather than magicked, essentially.
@GraceNote I don't know... you seem like the satan worshiping type.
@agent86 I do wonder where you'd get such an idea.
and a tree isn't man made.
So changing to green backgrond.
@agent86 Magic is a pretty expensive game, but I also think it's extraordinarily fun. D&D is a bit of an up-front cost, but once you've taken that hit, it's practically zero-cost ongoing
@agent86 I got the whole witchcraft talk when I was younger because of MtG
It was pretty dumb
19:58
The background should generally match the color of the cost - in this case, though, it's a tree, so 'e should be green anyways.
@IanPugsley probably when my kids are a bit older I'll introduce them to some type of non-video-game table top game
@GraceNote Well the card sure is green now.
Also I like how the randomly chosen 1/4 values stack up against the other cards.
@badp I imagine MSE is even more confusing if youre unfamiliar with the game
@agent86 I'd strongly recommend it - I started playing Magic and D&D in middle school, and I think it's done quite a bit for my creativity and such
@OrigamiRobot Not as much as SE!
although Meta certainly is murder.
20:00
@OrigamiRobot MSE = Magic Set Editor, not Meta something?
oh, I thought you meant like "Magic Second Edition"
I found MSE pretty intuitive, although some click targets are kinda hidden.
@IanPugsley yea i didnt consider the acronym confusion. I was just being lazy
Magic Set Editor. Haven't used that in... years.
...and I can't say criminy anymore because that's too British
@GraceNote What's wrong with British?
@IanPugsley How's the video coming along?
@RonanForman It doesn't work with a Southern accent.
20:03
@RonanForman uhhhhhh oh yeah
@GraceNote didn't know you lived in the South
I don't, but that ain't an issue here (and I say ain't normally anyway, so don't blame the accent right now)
I live in good ol' New England in the northeast.
@IanPugsley @GraceNote has frequency shifting chameleon shields. If you think you've uncovered a personal fact, [s]he will shift so that it is no longer valid.
@GraceNote gotcha; Southern is an accent of choice for the moment
@IanPugsley More that I'm just stuck at subvocalizing it for now.
@agent86 broken chameleon circuit? That's British
20:07
@IanPugsley allonz-y!
Allons-y Alonso!
I was kind of disappointed with the last series finale
@IanPugsley Which one?
@RonanForman last being most recent, the most recent Doctor Who finale
@IanPugsley What happened in it...
20:12
I don't want to spoil it if anyone hasn't seen it (it wasn't that long ago), so hopefully I'll jog your memory with "time gets all dumb and then there's a cop out involving a robot"
Oh yeah! I thought it was pretty good.
@IanPugsley Oh, right, I was thinking of trees instead.
"Time gets all dumb and there's a copout involving a robot" sounds like... par for the course as far as all I know of that series.
@GraceNote Assuming you mean series in the British way, yes.
It's the Moffat way.
@ArdaXi that was the Christmas special (which I liked okay)
20:13
I meant series in the whole arching way.
@IanPugsley Yeah, I know.
@GraceNote It's really only the last two series that were that way.
That have time being all weird and there being robots?
Although RTD did a few cop-outs, most notable of which involving a hand and a clone.
@ArdaXi on the contrary, I really like Moffat's fare typically (and there have been very few robots to my knowledge)
@GraceNote Oh, well... no, that's pretty much on par.
20:14
@ArdaXi yeah, you wanna talk copouts, let's talk about Rose fanservice
@IanPugsley Do not be alarmed. This is a kindness.
@ArdaXi I loved that episode!
Plus there's the whole time-travelling shape-shifting robot from the future thing.
So it's decided, British TV is better than American TV!
The black spot was about a sort of robot.
20:16
@ArdaXi that's the one that bothers me - not crazy about those dudes
@RonanForman You had doubts over this?
for as much as I like Moffat's writing for the last two series in general, I've felt like the finales were somewhat disappointing
@IanPugsley I thought his first finale was good
I'll always prefer RTD. Moffat isn't good with entire series.
It's one thing to throw Bad Wolf around a little in episodes, it's a whole other to go "Look at all this time crack here. It's also here. And here. And here."

Q: I can't get arrested in Whiterun

VitoIn Skyrim, when I get arrested in Whiterun, the loading screen won't load and I have to restart my game. Is it because I killed the guards in the jail? I need help! Could I get arrested in another Imperial town, and then would they stop trying to arrest me in Whiterun?

@OrigamiRobot "The Doctor isn't gone forever because he got remembered back into existence"? Not my favorite.
user30
Gaming is pushed pretty hard in this year's State of the Stack.
It's like "Oooh, I really wonder what the story arc is here."
Moffat lacks subtlety.
@ArdaXi I loved the Bad Wolf arc
@ArdaXi I'll agree with this, and if it's something you need, I can definitely understand liking Davies more
I don't want to be shown absolutely everything ahead of time, leave some open for interpretation.
Like the build-up to Turn Left with Rose appearing on screens for a second? Brilliant.
20:20
@ArdaXi I thought there was plenty of subtlety until the things i was fixated on didnt pan out
How can it be a duck pond if there are no ducks?
@ArdaXi it's hard for me to separate my dislike of Rose from Davies' writing (since she's made so central to things so often)
Donna was my favorite Davies companion, easily
@IanPugsley MARTHA JONES
@OrigamiRobot meh
@OrigamiRobot Yeah, see, Moffat doesn't do subtle things like bees disappearing and moons being lost.
WILFRED
Wilfred wins for best character of all time for me (so far).
20:22
He was a companion!
For like one episode, but still.
lol sure, if you want to count him, then he's my favorite
I would watch a spinoff of Wilfred having tea and talking to his family and nothing exciting happens.
People at /r/doctorwho seem to.
@IanPugsley That's what the British call a sitcom.
@ArdaXi well they should do it then!

2011 was another year of fantastic growth at Stack Exchange. We continued our tradition of doubling every year, going from 16 million to over 32 million monthly visitors. We added 42 new sites, bringing us to a grand total of 78. We hired 22 new employees, and raised another $12 million in venture capital, some of which was invested in a remote-controlled, floating shark and clownfish for the office.

We’re now ranked #160 on Quantcast, which makes me wonder if maybe our big goal of becoming a “top 50 site on the Internet” was perhaps not ambitious enough. And the question and  …
