Q: How to get nether mobs to spawn at night in minecraft?

user144920In some servers, nether mobs come out in the regular world, like blazes, ghasts, and Giants every night along with all the other mobs the regularly spawn at night. How can you do this in a single player world? Is there a command for it?

Q: How to test for if all players of a particular team are on a particular area

Kartik PillaiIm making an minigame map in minecraft and I cant figure out how can I test (using command block) if ALL players form a particular team are in a particular area (of radius 8 blocks)(if all players are present command block should give a redstone output). So can someone help me by providing the co...

@StrixVaria Oh. Huh. Guess it was some other Bridge person then! Sorry! :D
I like stealth games, that looks cool
@Fluttershy that looks like it might potentially be okay. Stealth genre is a difficult genre to be good at, which is probably why there are so few good stealth games
I 100%'d Styx: The Master of Shadows, that game was awesome
Dishonored was a good stealth game.
18:02
For good Stealth you have like... MGS, Thief (1, 2, and 3. New one is meh), Splinter Cell, and the random one-off ones
Dishonored was basically current gen Thief but with super powers, which was awesome but too easy
Dishonored was awesome
Dishonored had two very, very important things (for me) to make a stealth game palatable.
1) If you were seen, you weren't just instantly and irrevocably fucked.
@twobugs wasn't that easy if you went for ghost runs
2) There were multiple viable and interesting paths through the levels.
I did a murder everyone run and I did a no-kill ghost run
both were fun, but ghost run was sooo much harder
18:03
dark souls is a great stealth game
@Chippies Mainly because of the bizarre scoring where you could be blamed for kills that you didn't commit
Deus Ex: HR, to contrast point 2, had 2 paths. 1) The room with the guys in it, or 2) The air vent hidden behind a box or around a corner that circumvents the challenge.
Which is the worst level design.
I like HR and I need to replay it. Maybe I'll stream that eventually
@twobugs in a ghost no-kill run, there should be no deaths by anyone, but yeah, there was that
I think the original DX had better levels
18:04
@twobugs HR might have other things going for it, but level design is not one of them.
@Chippies I didn't kill anyone but apparently some NPC wandered too close to a monster in one of the last levels
I stopped playing after I was literally forced by the game to murder every living person in the police headquarters.
I figured maybe I wasn't the best stealth agent.
I was reading about it and unless you do specific things that is a semi-common problem, apparently
Yeah, it counted deaths, not necessarily kills by you, due to the chaos thing working off of any deaths, which makes sense in a way, but can be a hassle in practice
Any game where you can stop time and it works exactly like my animes is a 10/10 though
18:07
I still love that one gif/video where the guy got shot at, paused time, mind controlled the guy who shot the bullet to walk into the path of the bullet, and then unpaused time.
@StrixVaria there's a guy who makes videos of Dishonored with insane skill/trick shots
@StrixVaria That one was incredible
Basically anything with stopping time was amazing
Shoot crossbow bolt in the air, jump and assassinate one enemy, block and riposte the next, last enemy runs up and get the crossbow bolt through the top of the head.
18:09

Mixology

Proposed Q&A site for cocktail enthusiasts, bar tenders and curious imbibers.

Currently in definition.

Stopping time is the best power
I do believe he is using a trainer for unlimited mp, but it's impressive nonetheless
I think my favorite stealth game may be Splinter Cell: Conviction
It has amazing co-op modes
And it has varying levels of stealth requirements
@SaintWacko co-op was so hard though
My favorite one was where if you're spotted, you lose
18:11
twice the opportunities to make mistakes and one mistake ruins the whole run usually
I never got into Splinter Cell
@Chippies It did with the settings we used!
Metal Gear Online was amazing though. RIP
@SaintWacko No thanks.
That's why you only play with people you know
18:12
@twobugs Conviction was very different from the previous games
9 mins ago, by StrixVaria
1) If you were seen, you weren't just instantly and irrevocably fucked.
And who are as good at it as you are
On my list of important things in a stealth game.
I only played the first Splinter Cell. It wasn't for me
@SaintWacko that's the settings we played on as well, although we did try lowering it and it didn't necessarily help when you accidentally trigger someone and everyone swarms you
18:13
@StrixVaria See, I enjoyed the forced absolute stealth
@twobugs as I said, Conviction was more of a shooter with stealth elements than a proper splinter cell game
@Chippies Well, you weren't using the same settings, then. There were no swarms, because if you were spotted at all, it was game over
many splinter cell fans hated it
I'm fine with forced stealth, but only if the stealth mechanics are actually fair and satisfying
@twobugs Splinter Cell does a good job of that
18:14
Stuff like MGS
@twobugs like arkham predator mode?
> that's the settings we played on as well, although we did try lowering it and it didn't necessarily help when you accidentally trigger someone and everyone swarms you
@Chippies Ohh, I see. I misunderstood
Assassin's Creed is pitched as a stealth mode but it's really just meh
@GodEmperorDune Yeah, although I kind of don't like how they handled it in City/Knight
Oh, yeah Assassin's creed is only a tiny bit stealth
18:15
It was great in those games, don't get me wrong
@twobugs I have only played the first three games, but I have never found a stealth bit in the game
you always have to murder someone and once you murder anything, the whole city chases you
@Chippies If you try to do the optional objectives you have to remained stealth a lot. And those are shitty because the stealth mechanics are dumb
@Chippies unless you do stealth kills and walk quickly away
But in Arkham City they started this weird like... tech arms race between Batman and grunts
18:16
You get an ability to counter them, they get a counter, you get a counter-counter, etc
@GodEmperorDune in my experience, that only worked in roaming
@Chippies true
I guess I only like stealth if it's one option among many and can be used for an advantage, but being seen just triggers some other combat that itself is inherently fun.
Dishonored is good for that.
So is Skyrim, for example.
@twobugs origins was really bad about that
I didn't really play Origins
18:18
Arkham Asylum and Arkham City had pretty good stealth
I liked the number of options you had in City and the Mr. Freeze fight was amazing
But Asylum is still my favorite of the series
It just felt the most cohesive to me
@Yuuki Now THIS I am really excited for
i still need to finish origins
@twobugs it would have been much better if they had all the good improvements of city
Titanfall 1 is a blast
Asylum just felt sluggish after playing City
18:19
See, I played them in release order because I'm not a madman.
@twobugs I did too, but I immediately noticed how much better City felt
and I tried going back to Asylum to get a few combat achievs and I just couldn't play it anymore
i mean the premise behind city was way more of a stretch than asylum
So I'm already repcapped on Workplace
@twobugs which HNQ did you hit?
Asylum I gladly 100%'d but City just had a bunch of silly filler objectives

Q: How can I manage my need to take short bathroom breaks in a professional setting?

two bugsI have a very non-threatening chronic kidney condition. One of the recommended management techniques is to drink a lot of liquids - this keeps my kidneys from retaining more water than they need to. The obvious downside is that I need to visit the bathroom semi-frequently (maybe 4ish times a day,...

18:21
@twobugs i go to the loo more than this
I have no diagnosed condition (i think possibly ibs/ibd but anyway).

Q: Recovering from a rm -rf /

bleemboyI run a small hosting provider with more or less 1535 customers and I use Ansible to automate some operations to be run on all servers. Last night I accidentally ran, on all servers, a Bash script with a rm -rf {foo}/{bar} with those variables undefined due to a bug in the code above this line. ...

@twobugs I couldn't do the combat achievs :( And City I tried to 100%, but the stupid DLC crap glitched out on me and I gave up
Do other people smoke?
@StrixVaria not this again? >_<
I get nervous every time I have to type rm -rf into the console.
People do a lot of "who the fuck would view this as unprofessional" but I've sent plenty of Workplace.SE questions about people being unprofessional for having backpacks
18:22
I got stuck behind a door where I wasn't supposed to be due to some glitch or whatever and it autosaved
@Justin I have my own office overlooking some of the finest real estate in SV. I don't even wear a shirt at work and never turn the lights on so I doubt anyone even notices. #lifehack. — hownowbrowncow 10 mins ago
I also have a backpack
look what you did @twobugs
and wear a beanie hat into work
(not @ work mind you).
I apologize for nothing
18:23
@StrixVaria i type the path, THEN <home key> then rm -rf
That hownow guy is the hero Lifehacks needs
i once accidently did rm -rf /music/<was meant to type stuff here but had already hit enter>
@twobugs his lifehack is to use piss jugs
cc @GnomeSlice
@djsmiley2k Yeah I usually go for this too.
18:24
@GodEmperorDune Hm yeah, it's not a lifehack if they're designed to be piss jugs
-1
Okay, office stuff is here
@GodEmperorDune what the even fuck
@Unionhawk this is the worst sort of programmer
i thougth everyone had already seen this, lul
Just got off the phone with someone who explicitly asked for my extension so he could call me again. Am I... an adult now?
I mean, I've had extensions before but nobody cared
what makes it seven better is that he brags about 500/loc per day... loc is a terrible metric
18:28
I can write 500 loc a second
Probably more
Will they be productive? No.
I had a job where the only metric they compiled on devs was the bounce ratio of bugs you marked as completed
Only problem was QA didn't fucking care and would routinely bounce bugs for no reason or bounce the wrong bugs
500 lines isn't much ieven if they Are good lines.
@djsmiley2k right?
Also dumb @twobugs
at work atm they looking at closed tickets as the metric
which is dumb, but hey ho whatever
Luckily both jobs I've had to write code in have the "talk to another human being and agree on what a reasonable amount of work is for that timeframe, then do it" style of determining your performance.
It's a shitty metric because loc is really dependent on factors
18:30
I can close the most easily.
I.E. If you're working on a legacy system I certainly hope you aren't writing 500loc a day
I can even write something to ping me on each new ticket so i can check them before collegues, etc
Oh god, I'm going to be that guy who automated his whole job aren't I? :D
If you're working on developing a new system you should be writing more than 500 a day.
On legacy systems you should be scoring negative amounts of loc
@twobugs if anything you should be going for negative LOC, but then people do stupid stuff to reduce linecount that doesn't help anything
18:31
\o/
Yeah, you don't just measure delta lines
Well, you do if you pee in jugs I guess
Is this guy literally the sniper?
Does he throw his pee on his enemies?
@GodEmperorDune It's pretty easy to reduce linecount. Just remove the newlines!
I think the Sniper is a lot more sanitary than that guy
And the Sniper is better respected by his parents
I refuse to believe that guy is not trolling
18:32
@SaintWacko then they do things like enforce line lengths, so people start golfing
@twobugs "I'm an assassin, not a crazed gunman."
But I also do not have 125 rep to tell him off with
@Yuuki "The difference is one has a job and the other is a criminal!"
@twobugs "One's a job and the other's mental sickness."
Ah, right
18:33
Of course, my quote is reversed so I'm not right either.
also @twobugs the network association bonus does not contribute to repcap, so you still have 100 more rep to go
Yeah I just noticed that. Drat.
@Chippies In interested due to the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time comparison, to be honest. I'm not a huge fan of stealth games. I enjoy them, but they aren't my favorite thing.
In more than 30 hours of play (including dozens upon dozens of successful vampiric feeding QTEs), this is the first time I missed a QTE late.
@bwDraco you took some bio breaks, i hope
18:36
@Fluttershy not sure how it compared to PoP, when PoP had no stealth (afaik) and the very short description of that game says "Stay hidden - or the ruthless guards will kill you on sight!"
@Chippies It has a rewind mechanic.
@Fluttershy ah, that's always fun
but I doubt there's any other similarities :P
This guy sent us an email from an apparently defunct or fake gmail address. Weird.
"Stand in one place, and the game world freezes around you like a diorama." Maybe SUPERHOT would be a better comparison.
Oh, no, there's a rewind mechanic as well, so that still works.
@GodEmperorDune Of course, this was not in one session.
18:39
is there anything similar to a table header for divs?
That reminds me of the best description I ever saw for The Last of Us - "The Citizen Kane of getting people to make really ridiculous Citizen Kane comparisons."
@Dragonrage that should be done almost entirely in css
styling the particular <h#> tags or some sort of <div class="header">
have you looked at getbootstrap.com/css
It's very rare that I miss QTEs of this sort. The timing window for that one was wicked narrow, though (probably about 12-15 frames at most).
@GodEmperorDune hmm, ill check this out. we are updating everything to bootstrap which is why im converting all these tables to divs. just trying to also preserve how it looks for the most part
@Dragonrage you may want to think about what the presentation of the data should be, not just what it was in the past
if it is truly "tabular data", just use a table and style it with classes
if its not, porting the tables to equivalent divs doesn't make it better
18:47
@GodEmperorDune im updating some of it, but i was told to keep it similar, it mainly just displaying text from different fields in a database as a detail. doesnt really need to be in a table, but having it in a table worked fine before, but now they dont work as well
YES
I'm working on making a mail notifier for tracking my deliveries, and I just got "access" (decompiled android app, found hardcoded link, worked for minutes to find out what I'm wrong, used an android userstring, and finally got access) into tracking systems.
Well, they shoulda had added captcha check to android app like they do for online app.

Q: Super Mario Brothers Wii level 9-7 without star item

LuigiHaving played through Super Mario Brothers a few times, I found world 9-7 (along with the last coin of world 9-4) the most difficult. I always need to use multiple star items (for limited invulnerability) to get through level 9-7, is it possible at all to get through that level without it?

Totally working.
Sends mail when something changes.
@ardaozkal or you could of just proxied the capcha
@djsmiley2k they have a homemade captcha system. Probably some online script thingy but not just a regular recaptcha.
19:14
@ardaozkal never roll your own security measures when there are established libraries to do so
@Ohnana hmm, well then, what can i say, they saw my excellent question and had to rip it off
@ardaozkal we're looking at this why?
I think that just using a mobile, captcha-less api is better for me. It returns json too, so no need to parse html too.
Damn, it's been a long time since I last was in the room
Hi everybody
19:21
@NateKerkhofs oh hi o/
Nothing is certain in life except for death, taxes and Activision charging indie-game prices for 11 year old CoD games
I mean, Call of Duty 2 is from 2005 and it's the same price as MW, MW2 and WaW. And it costs only a fraction less than Saint's Row 3 and 4 put together
Great, sales tax in Newfoundland is getting increased from 13% to 15% starting with july
user15026
19:39
Lucky you.
> The budget has left nothing untouched, with Bennett saying the "culture of spending" is over.
well, at least I'm glad I built my PC when I did :P
user15026
Yikes, that's a mess :(
@Chippies When will people realize that a government budget is not the same thing as a household budget?
Yet, we're looking into buying a house here... We are beating @twobugs in bad financial decisions
@Yuuki not sure what you mean by that, but everything is getting more expensive, more taxed and people are getting laid off
@Yuuki never, as long as it justifies their end goals
19:51
and I don't really understand politics, but the government budget must come from somewhere, so, we're paying for it
@Chippies One of the ever-present analogies that fiscal conservatives use is "we don't spend more than we have at home, why do we do it in government". Which is fallacious for at least two reasons.
@Chippies government investment is not necessarily a bad thing, so in some cases it is actually worse for the economy to only spend money that they have on hand
People do spend more than they have in household budgets. That's what debt is. And secondly, the idea of comparing a government budget to a household budget is ridiculous.
@Yuuki comparing a govt budget to a corporate budget is closer but still not that great
19:53
Thirdly, the government prints money, and in the case of the U.S., it's backed by other nations' confidence in us
Which is why going back to the gold standard would be disastrous, incidentally
@Unionhawk yep
I don't know about Canada, but the US national debt is largely domestic. In that we owe money to ourselves.
Well, not only that, dons make america great again hat but mexico owes us billions because that's how trade deficits work sets fire to hat
Trade deficits are great. It means we've been getting stuff without equivalent return.
Like if you gave me Dark Souls III. I would have a trade deficit with you. But now who owns Dark Souls III?
By Trump logic, trade deficits are bad and I need to buy you Dark Souls III.
spoiler alert: dragon ahead
spoiler alert the dark souls community is awful
20:03
@Unionhawk Who walks anywhere without a shield raised?
That's just asking for trouble.
Yeah, like that stupid steel ball that rolls down the stairs in the DS1 tutorial
@Unionhawk A shield wouldn't save you there. :P Quick reflexes will though!
Meh I didn't die, so it's whatever
It's just like the game knows that it wants to make you feel like an idiot
Because it does
user15026
@Unionhawk I've never understood that aspect of the game tbh
20:18
The idea is that not awful people would be like "yo dragon ahead" vs "no dragon ahead", or you would pick up on the sarcasm
user15026
@Unionhawk yeah, I figured that's what they were going for, but it definitely didn't work in practice
Yeah, well
@AshleyNunn this is why we can't have nice things
You can't really plan for the internet, this is why online interactions are not rated by the ESRB etc
Though the limited vocab makes dark souls note jokes even funnier and more creative
@Unionhawk that's more because any online interaction would automatically get the worst rating possible
@Unionhawk illusory wall ahead
praise the sun
20:23
Well, I was thinking more specifically "great chest ahead" sort of word play
0
Q: How do you get your weapons out in Gta races Xbox one

Tom jonesHow do u get ur weapons out on Gta races for Xbox one

Ah is @Unionhawk now being trolled by the Souls community?
No because online is offline in DS1
Ah yes
Now, it's very obvious that this player knows that there is a dragon ahead and wants to show that off
But still
20:25
@Unionhawk maybe they're just missing a comma
"no, dragon ahead"
Though now I want to play dark souls instead of doing my homework
Bad uni
Uni this is Unionhawk. Do your homework, idiot
Hmm. Maybe I cut dark souls and replace with homework and running. Part of me wants to run a 10k in 2 weeks
Part of me thinks that's nuts, part of me thinks screw it I'm 22 it's probably fine,
Part of me wants to say screw that but do run anyway
I think #3 is the most right
Though since it's only a 10k I could probably do it versus a half marathon
Since it's half a half
Then again it's not on the marathon day, and my dad and brother are going to run the half and full respectively I think
@GodEmperorDune \ [T] /
Oh, wait, this is before exams. DECISION MADE: SCREW THAT, SPECIFICALLY
@Unionhawk you've run a 10k before?
@GodEmperorDune No but I've run a mile 6 times, that's basically the same right? (no it isn't)
I already decided screw it so whatever
BUT IT IS A GOAL FOR NEXT YEAR MAYBE?
maybe
Screw it, half as a goal for next year
DO IT UNI
20:38
@Unionhawk nope
you should probably build up to it
Yeah
Either way, I've got an entire year now
And if I get this alternative internship, they have a fitness center on-site
(previous did not)
Running 10K if you have any physical strength is relatively easy. running it at a respectable pace is hard
What's that? No I'm not saying I told you so
@Unionhawk Believe me, if that phone had any data worth anything in a terrorism case, Farouk would have destroyed it just as much as his personal phone
Yeah, actual opsec involves burner phones
20:44
btw, that rm -rf post by @fredley basically tripled my Reddit karma
yay imaginary internet points that actually do nothing
I saw it in my twitter feed, I made a /r/sysadmin post and linked it to Securitay

@GodEmperorDune it was on Twitter
