@Sterno eventually you learn to ignore enemies between bonfire and boss, so you usually don't earn souls, unless the dumb creatures jump off ledges and die
DS2 is designed for you to level up all the damn time which is nice but also annoying
Also they made rolling and estus flasks suck until you invest points in ADP
I don't get why I have to go back to Majula to level.
(But they eventually get better than DS1/Demon's, IIRC)
But I like having teleport out of the gate.
I hate teleport.
15:01
Thanks Grouchy Smurf.
The teleport is nice. I don't really like how in 1 it takes so long to unlock and even then it's limited
@MadMAxJr I thought Vitality was just reskinned Resistance.
It takes away the feeling that you may have overextended yourself and have a hard time getting back out of the terrible place you ventured into
You can probably reach a good middle ground somewhere but meh
Or Adaptability is.
15:01
Well in DS2 the map isn't a twisty maze. It's more like CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE FROM ANY ONE OF THESE FIVE PATHS
I wish they put a bit more effort in making a sensible world map.
@Sterno I don't think this would work well in 2 unless they changed several mechanics
@twobugs Yeah. Too many dead ends.
The world map stuff doesn't bother me because I never really bought into Souls lore
Despite the simple layout, I find the art amazing.
15:02
This is currently going viral on Facebook in Singapore
I think the world map in DS1 is the most amazing world map I have seen in a videogame
Possibly the world's worst wedding photographer - facebook.com/jaclynyjy/albums/10153623323097099
@Chippies I never really understood this either, but too each their own :P
Also I walked out into the Heide's Tower area and I had to squint, because that looks an awful lot like Anor Londo.
I honestly don't know why you level up with the Emerald Herald or whatever instead of a bonfire, though. Why make you warp?
15:03
(On imgur if you can't log into Facebook imgur.com/a/4PPME)
@twobugs it's just amazing how it's all connected without really feeling like any part of the map is a filler
Yeah, I just wanna level up and get back to business, not go back to Majula for everything.
@Sterno I think they wanted it to be like Demon's is the best answer
But that game had a different style real so it doesn't work as well
sure, it's a maze and it's a pain to navigate, but it amazes me how it's all in one piece
If only @spugsley was here to share the cringe
15:04
Though I really do enjoy the view from the fire up toward Things Betwixt.
except a couple areas
Plus the Maiden In Black is way better than the Emerald Herald
@Chippies It's also cool that all the background you see is actually a place.
@PrivatePansy Oh god the blue filter photo
Also it's like the photographer went out of their way to find people making the worst possible expressions
@fredley ok i'll give much better cc messages now
15:05
Or shot them in horrible lighting. Or both
@PrivatePansy that first photo - did someone puke all over the bride's dress?
@GodEmperorDune I had a burrito at Qdoba in your honor. It was pretty good
@Yuuki Let me get your opinion here... I have Four Kings, Nito, and Seath left. Nito dies tonight, and possibly Seath. But I can't decide if I want to do the DLC before the Sif fight, so I haven't done anything there yet, and won't until I decide. What would you do?
I can't believe I missed the Drangelic Armor for so dang long.
15:06
@twobugs yeah because qdoba is great
The groom looks like a murderer in the blue photo
Went back to where The Pursuer was, saw the little glimmer. Oh man where has this medium armor been my whole life.
@Fluttershy Well, I'm planning on doing the DLC before Sif.
@Yuuki I just noticed the bad Photoshopping of the pagoda into the bride's dress
Oh god it's killing me
@GodEmperorDune The actual ingredients aren't as good as Chipotle but Qdoba lets me add queso which is amazing
15:06
@Yuuki Have fun with Artorias. I gave up. It's an amazing fight, but that crouch-leap-AOE slam is frustrating
Also I'm much less likely to get e. coli from Qdoba!
@twobugs Plus they have that delicious chipotle cream sauce
@Yuuki I probably should too... But the thought of fighting Manus again is daunting.
You can cheese Manus with about 200 arrows. :D
@twobugs all good points
15:07
Is it photoshopped? I can't even tell
The DLC is my main driver. It's the part of the game that I haven't done.
i just wish they had a location closer to me
We need the opinion of an expert on this. cc @spugsley RIP @spugsley
8
@Sterno @spugsley pls
@Yuuki I'm to the point now that I've done everything except Gwyn, so I'm conflicted.
15:09
cc @MBraedley
The DS1 DLC is beautiful stuff. I felt bad fighting the scarecrows once I saw some of them simply tending to bushes and trees before my aggro pulled them
I miss @spugsley
@Wipqozn The first few seconds are... interesting
15:10
I get the feeling that the entire video is going to be like that
That accurately summarizes my first trip into Sens Fortress
@Sterno are we talking about punching babies?
Oh hey, they made Apparition actually look like Apparition this time.
@MadMAxJr Hahaha
I was rather upset when I found out the giant that operates the Temple of Doom device is over on a platform you can't reach.
You can shoot him, but he respawns.
15:12
@MBraedley No sir. Just keep watching.
@MadMAxJr You can reach it actually.
Does it take a leap of faith or something?
Make a running jump from the T-junction.
@MadMAxJr Yeah.
@MadMAxJr That's Dark souls, baby1
@Wipqozn I skipped ahead, you're lying. Unless there's a short bit in the middle
15:13
@MBraedley I never lie!
@Wipqozn 8 hours
The girlfriend watched me do Sens Fortress. She has played before. She just had this big grin the whole time I ventured in. Eventually she was my 'tell' for when something awful was up ahead.
She was kind enough to interupt me and flat out tell me where the bonfire was. That saved my sanity.
I wonder bridge's opinion on this
I don't think that it'll sell that well. (Most phones can do the voice commands thingy, the biggest selling point of that imo is that it is a wireless speaker, but there are many cheaper ones)
@Yuuki Colour me intrigued.
@Sterno I hate you so much. Maybe I should just buy a digital copy.
no gosh darn it, I can wait. I'll still beat it before you.
In fact, it's only fair I give you a head start.
15:16
@Ronan Apparently some time between the 1920s and 2000, Apparition turned from actually point-to-point teleportation to weird spooky ghost travel.
I'll be so happy if one of you ends up invading the other.
an old guy like you needs a handicap
@MadMAxJr I would be too, but it won't happen. I'm getting it on PS4, @Sterno is getting it on PC.
@MadMAxJr I don't think that can happen since @Wipqozn is a console peasant
@Yuuki I don't know enough of the lore to comment.
@Sterno and myself are both on PC
@Ronan I'm just making a comment on the main series of films.
I'm aware it's a day old, but gosh darn it
that moment when you attach a function to a checbox, and the checkbox takes a while to become checked
@twobugs Cooool
I'm console peasanting it up
Aww.
15:17
I don't even have enough space on my SSD to preload though
@MadMAxJr Souls is the only game where I always go console
I don't know what to delete to make room
and then you run the profiler, and realize the browser took 0.3 seconds to do all the processing
@badp Are you doing some heavy processing on the click handler?
but my click handler only took 30ms to run
15:18
Man it better have Xbox One controller support on PC (some games support 360 but not One controllers, which is really dumb)
and I don't know what the hell is happening in the other 270ms
@badp That's the processes' union mandated break
also the slowest thing in my click handler somehow is text()
Is it reproducible? Are there any handlers on the chain of parent elements?
not the four or so loops I have
it's reproducibly slow
15:19
Steam: Hey. Hey Max. Steam Controller works with DS3! Max: Go away Steam, I bought your thing and I still don't believe in your dual trackpads.
@twobugs Delete @badp
@badp The DOM can be stupidly slow
Jeez steam, just leave me and my Logitech F310 alone.
@Yuuki It's been too long for me to remember.
Wanna share some code?
15:19
@ardaozkal it doesn't need to be connected to anything to stream (besides wi-fi)
@PrivatePansy Man this sounds like you're trying to do something illicit
@badp What is it registering as on the profiler?
@PrivatePansy I don't know how much I can, and again, the code only accounts for 10% of the time.
@Chippies neither does your phone.
@badp That doesn't make any sense - if the profiler records 270ms, it has to be 270ms of something, right?
15:20
Like you're some guy in a shady alley trying to get @badp to try some ILLEGAL DRUGS
@ardaozkal yeah, but my phone doesn't have a nice big speaker, so what is your point?
so we have
@ardaozkal that thing is always listening for the trigger phrase. You can be pretty much anywhere in the room and use it
my point is that with any other BT speaker you need to connect a phone to it to stream music
In other news
15:21
Hmm... If I skip the DLC, I might actually be able to beat Dark Souls tonight.
By just saying things, instead of first getting your phone, unlocking it, pressing the button, etc
@twobugs psst, hey kid, want some... semi-optimal solution to the travelling salesmen problem?
@Fluttershy If you already did the DLC once then I don't see any harm ins kipping it
I promise I won't call you a coward.
@Chippies exactly what I said. Biggest selling point is that it is a huge speaker. and just saw your other message, yeah, that feature might be useful at home.
7ms Composite Layers
45ms Hit Test
22ms Hit Test
115ms Event (click)
- 51ms Function Call (jQuery)
- 30ms my function call
- 30ms onloadwff.js
- 25ms again jQuery
62ms update layer tree
34ms paint
15:22
@Wipqozn I did do it once. Killing Artorias with a Greatsword was absolutely awful.
Same with Manus. They're just so fast
almost all of it under a "long frame"
@ardaozkal the other message wasn't mine :P But my point is that you don't need a middleman to play music. It's not just a speaker, it's also a player
Are there a lot of checkboxes?
@PrivatePansy "Here kid. This is called jQuery. It'll solve all your problems. First hit is on the house."
6
I wonder if Dragonslayer will be back a third time.
15:23
2 mins ago, by Chippies
my point is that with any other BT speaker you need to connect a phone to it to stream music
In this particular instance, yes.
The only reason I'd do the DLC this time around would be for the extra Sif stuff when I go to get the ring for four kings.
Have you tried delegating?
I meant that message.
Let me try again with a dozen or so
15:24
@Fluttershy I did the DLC with a magic build. I'll probably play the game again someday, and do DLC with not magic.
@ardaozkal well, that was just a summary of my earlier comment :P
Also, try using input event instead of click
I had a moment of panic when I followed my world host across the drawbridge and we took on the dragonslayer. I assumed there would also be an executioner.
@ardaozkal it's also #1 seller in outdoor speakers, so obviously it's selling just fine
@Fluttershy Manus seems like he'd be horrible to do with melee
15:25
@PrivatePansy As in getting someone else to solve the problem?
with a dozen checkboxes times go down to 57ms total 3ms my code
He was bad enough with magic
They've supposedly balaned magic a lot better this time around. Some seem to be complaining it's way too weak though, but also people. I remember people used t o say agility was useless when souls 2 came out, but now it's all "best stat"
@fredley No, as in use on(event, selector, handler) handler
@PrivatePansy My way sounds better
I think I'm going to delegate my jQuery issues to @PrivatePansy now
@badp Try delegating, and switch to using input event
15:26
@fredley seems to me like he already has delegated the problem to someone else and now is just following their instructions
> Ordered sushi on the way home - one regular roll and two hand rolls. Walk in to pick it up, the cashier looks at me and takes the second set of chopsticks out of the bag.
By delegating, you attach the event handler to the parent instead of the individual elements, so you have just one event handler to handle all of the checkboxes
Instead of attaching an event for every checkbox
@Yuuki brutal
@Wipqozn I think AGI just appears useless at the start but it clearly is amazing after a few points
Since it buffs up your dodging and estus flask drinking
@PrivatePansy so I should just make it an input event on the whole table?
15:27
Still trying to figure out WTF 'Adaptability' is in DS2
(there's unsurprisingly a checkbox per row in this table)
Yes, if that is the lowest common ancestor of all of the checkboxes
$('table').on('input', 'input[type="checkbox"]', function(){ ... });
@MadMAxJr Strong defensive stat
I recommend getting it to 15-20ish
@twobugs Always put a few points into Adaptability and Attunement. Not only does ADP give you bonus iframes, the two together also increase your resists.
That'll make rolling and drinking MUCH better
15:29
> Agility
Poison ATK bonus
Poison resist
Bleed resist
Petrify resist
Curse resist
Poise
Plus, as @Yuuki noted, bonus resistances
Poise is also very key.
input event is also important because checkboxes can have their states changed not only via clicking
Super armor best armor
@Wipqozn He was terrible. I also didn't have the silver talisman, so I couldn't really avoid the magic damage either.
15:30
Ooof.
I left it at 5.
I needed STR 20, DEX 18 to use my winged spear so I shot for that first.
@PrivatePansy keyboard input best input
VIT/END are up around 15 now...
Just took INT to 10 because it turns out fire damage scales on that now...
well keyboard input still did trigger click events
maybe touch would be specialer?
I just have to get my damn pyromancy hand from the double-jerk in the boat boss.
@badp I think that might be jQuery
@badp No, touch events also trigger click
15:31
@MadMAxJr Hahahahaha I hope you like him
You might be encountering him again!
I already did the one down in front of the lost soul
I'm glad I co-op'd the lost soul and saw that you need to light the oil fires to light up the room.
I did it without the fires but everyone says they're nice to have
For most bosses it looks like you just wait for some slow heavy combo in 3s or 4s, then you strike.
Honestly what kept screwing me up I think was having crappy weapons and ADP. Once switched weapons it was a lot easier
Plus I had success trapping her against a wall so that I could prevent the dodge
What's ADP short for again?
15:37
Adaptability
It and attunement are definitely worth a few points (maybe not before your weapons)
Hmmm, no - browsers themselves shim input on checkboxes as click events
I put enough in attunement to get 3 slots because I planned for pyromancy as backup.
This works on Firefox at least with addEventListener
@MadMAxJr What's your Agility at?
Also, the fire longsword I got from the giants forest is surprisingly effective against tons of stuff.
15:39
You probably want at least 95
Elemental weapons are very good
.... What?
95?
Agility is a stat on your character sheet
I think the disbelief is at the 95 bit
Oh it's not one I dump points into, it's a calculated stat?
It starts at an arbitrary number and will increase in other arbitrary ways
15:39
Because I'm not buying 95 of anything
@MadMAxJr Yeah, it's derived
It starts at 80 because well, you see
I have no idea what that is right now
That's what governs rolling and drinking
I am somewhat pondering if I want to dump a few more points to try out the grand lance.
Adaptability and Attunement are basically the two ways to raise it
15:40
Lances seem like shorter, more hurty spears
I wish I was home, beating Dark Souls or playing Battleborn.
Oh is Battleborn out?
I had fun with that in the closed beta.
@MadMAxJr it's in open beta on consoles right now. PC starts Wednesday.
Is it still just the Moba map and the one quest against the robot spider?
Ugh this class
>_>
15:47
Is it !!FUN!!?
how couldn't it be
Ah, so it's !FUN
It is a 200 level class I'm bored
Speaking of, have I told you I have to take communications 100 as a 5th year?
$ git rebase --continue
yo, merge conflict
$ git mergetool
$
one of the scariest sights
15:50
Oh yeah, I finally did that thing for our main java project for a class
@badp You're one of the scariest sights
@fredley I am not quite as scary handsome as @Wipqozn
@badp scandsome
scandalous
@badp scandilicious
15:53
scanned delicious?

Q: using Fierce Deity Armor as a Budding Hero in the Coluseum

neubertAccording to http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Sword_Master_Suit , "while in possession of [the sword master suit], Link cannot enter the Coliseum as a 'Budding Hero'". What about the Fierce Deity Armor? Can you enter the Coliseum as a "Budding Hero" with that?

@Wipqozn 7 hours.
@Sterno Only six here!
@MadMAxJr Nah. There's another game type, and a few more story missions.
