@jonathanconway Yes.

@jonathanconway Just gotta check a few things: You're using Minecraft 1.7.10 (plus Forge) and installing it for the vanilla client right?

He's got the intrinsic Timness that makes tims tims

Q: Who the player is?

DH.This question is impossible without giving spoilers, so please don't step forward without truly playing it. After completing a True Pacifist run and opening the game again But that confused me a lot, because we So... who the player really is?

11:53
@SaintWacko might be a Tim
Also did @SaintWacko get married yet? I know he got engaged at one point.
ma, i haven't watched that in ages
@Blem I was hoping for that, although I clicked it too fast and was bracing for Friday.
@Blem My fvourite part about that scene is they basically just spent whatever was left of their special effects budget all on that scene
IIRC he was suppose to have some insane long name, but he forgot what it was and just went with Tim?
11:58
lol..
=D
sounds about right.
@Blem That's pretty fantastic

I'm trying to decide who's more hype. @Wipqozn for Dark Souls 3, or me for Overwatch.
12:38
@Fluttershy Me
wait a second, is @Chippies a a tim?
@Wipqozn not to my knowledge, no
@aytimothy What game is that?
I dunno?
Mayeb minecraft? I haven't played that in so long.
@Chippies Are you sure?
@Wipqozn I haven't played vanilla in ages.
12:40
@Wipqozn how can I be sure if names aren't real?
@Chippies Yes
I know I haven't lost my keys, like, ever, so that has to mean something
@aytimothy It's been a long time since I played Minecraft for more than a short bit
Like before the beta ended
No enchanting or any of that
I hoped on a couple times on friends servers for a bit, but didn't play for long
In any case, the point is, @MBraedley should buy Dark Souls 3 too
and then get MAXIMUM OVERHYPE
MAXIMUM OVERHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY‌YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE
New games are so expensive these days, especially in Canada...
@Chippies Dark Souls 3 is worth it
12:42
I'll buy Dark Souls 3 in a couple years, I guess
I assume
first I need to get Dark Souls 2
Love Souls
@Chippies Yes
oh whao
I haven't played much Dark Souls, ever since my computer became worse than a toaster. :L - Should I skip 1 and go straight to 2?
Love Souls. Hype Souls.
@aytimothy Oh zeus no
12:43
I don't buy games for anything more than 20$ unless I expect to play hundreds of hours due to some sort of addicting online component
Dark Souls is the best entry in the series so far, @aytimothy
Any way to get past the 10 FPS?
I have not played DS2, but from what I have read, DS2 is not even close to being as good as DS1
@Chippies I took the time to add it up a while ago, and I think have 400-500 hour in all the souls games?
@aytimothy what is the cause to garbage framerates?
12:44
I should actually do NG+ for once. I never do it. There's usualyl just too many different weapons and builds I want to play that I never do NG+. I'd rthe rmake a new charactger.
Definitely not my computer. (Because Rocket League runs perfectly fine at 60FPS on high)
Also @Frank is a cool dude
*30 FPS on high
@Wipqozn I got 71 hours in DS1 + maybe 10'ish on the pirated version that I played on the junk PC before I got a better one
@aytimothy apply dsfix, should help at least a bit
are you on a laptop by any chance?
Yeah... I am @Chippies
Haven't got the time to settle down for a desktop yet.
12:45
@aytimothy force it to use your dedicated gpu for dark souls
it's pretty clear that it's using the integrated intel garbage
Is it a setting within DSfix?
@aytimothy it's a setting within your gpu drivers
one sec
HOW DO PEOPLE FIND POSTS ON ARQADE SO FAST?!
I suck at searching
@Wipqozn Well, yes, but I'm still not renaming @TrentHawkins.
@Chippies Magic
Try the 'New question' button :P

@Wipqozn THINK OF A CERTAIN PURPLE PONY INSTEAD

A: Why am I getting significant lag on Lili: Child of Geos when my gaming laptop exceeds all its requirements?

ChippiesSince you're on a laptop, it is very possible that you are using the integrated gpu, rather than the much more powerful dedicated nvidia gpu, because your laptop is more than capable of running the game at acceptable performance. You can change it in the nvidia control panel in the "Manage 3D set...

THERE YOU GO @aytimothy
I HEARD SHE'S PRETTY GOOD WITH MAGIC
Also I just realized I made plans with my grandmother the friday after dark souls 3 comes out. We're going to a concert. What a terrible idea.
Robert Rival: Spring
Niccolò Paganini: Violin Concerto no. 1
Schubert: Symphony in C “The Great”
Is what is playing that night
@PrivatePansy oh right! I gotta watch that
Ohhhhhhhh...
12:49
@PrivatePansy Your mom's pretty good with magic
if you by any weird chance have a laptop with an AMD gpu, the steps are different
@PrivatePansy How was the premier?
but there are so few laptops with dedicated AMD gpu's, that aren't APU's, that it's not even worth asking
@Wipqozn Better than your mom
@PrivatePansy MY mom's pretty awesome, so that's high praise
DARK SOULS OST NOW
Demons Souls OST is really good, I gotta say
@PrivatePansy lol what even
@Wipqozn The premiere is pretty cute. The plot is a bit more scattershot than most two-parters, because this is one of the few episodes with a B-plot, but the resolution is satisfying, and it's a nice romp all round
@PrivatePansy Cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
I'll need to make sure to watch it
Just for @Wipqozn.
Because I don't really like Dark Souls 3.
Dark Souls 3 looks so good but I know I'll play it for 30 minutes and get stressed out and never touch it again.
13:09
@Frank thanks, but n thanks sir
avoiding all gameplay videos for the most part
Want to go in mostly blind, except for gameplay mechanics
@Wipqozn I finished Calamity this morning.
@StrixVaria Thougths?
I'm still trying to figure out my thoughts.
It didn't blow me away. The end was solid/good as you'd expect from Sanderson.
I know you weren't all that impressed before
But the story itself just felt kind of like it didn't service the really big reveal very well.
The world was really interesting, but I think a different plot in the same setting probably would have served it better.
Worth reading if you just like Sanderson, but not worth reading if you only want to read really really great stuff.
13:12
@Wipqozn I doubt that will happen
@StrixVaria I might read it at some point. Way too many other books to read, honestly.
@Wipqozn I'm getting ever closer to starting Assassin's Apprentice.
@StrixVaria I'm almost done with the last book in the dagger and coin series. I'm not impressed. I've consistently given the series 3/5 stara on gfoodreads, and I think this will be a 2/5. There just isn't enough going on. Only one character really seems to be going through any sort of development, and nothings really happened. I feel like he should have just trtied to wrap things up in four books.
@Wipqozn Who's the author of that one?
@StrixVaria Daniel Abraham
13:16
@Wipqozn Never heard of him or it; will probably steer clear.
@StrixVaria IT's starting to pick up now....and by "now" I mean I've got about an hour and a half left to read
and it was a about an 8 hour read
Sounds like Wheel of Time.
Until this last book I would have given the series a recommendation. The series isn't great, but it's good, and the books themselves are fairly short, so they're quick reads too.
And the character of Gedar is really great, and I always look forward to his POV chapters.
I'm actually glad not to have any Sanderson to read for a while.
But in this laast one...I don't know. It feels like he still wanted to explore Gedar, but had nothing much left to do with other characters, so everything that isn't a Gedar chapter is just like "eeeehhhhhhhh"
like there's still plot to wrap up, but like I said, feel like he could have got away with wrapping it up in four books not five, albeit with some major edits
13:19
I'm going to end up hating Dark Souls 3 on principle, and if that happens, I'll blame @Wipqozn and his maximum overhype. :P
@Fluttershy Excellent
More enjoyment for me
> The epic conclusion to The Dagger and The Coin series, perfect for fans of George R.R. Martin.
If that's the tagline then I know to avoid it, since I hate GRRM's writing.
@StrixVaria I think once I've finished catching up on all the Robin Hobb I'm going to read those gentlemen bastard books
@Wipqozn yessssssssssss
@StrixVaria tbh I don't feel it's an apt comparison at all
13:21
Well it sounds like it has one of his classic downfalls: having too many uninteresting point characters.
It's similiar in that it's a high fantasy world which feels like low fantasy, aka more focus on politics and less actyion buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut not much more than that
@StrixVaria Yup. Main reason why AFFC was fucking terrible.
I only have four books left in Wheel of Time. I dunno what I'm going to do after that. :(
@Fluttershy Read something good.
@StrixVaria I have been! I've been loving the series, personally.
I hate end of fiscal year...
13:23
Well, as long as you're enjoying it, I guess :P
@StrixVaria It's actually a really good series. :P
I gave that series 3 chances and got to book 5 and couldn't even stomach the idea of reading at all anymore until I read something else to make me remember reading could be fun.
It's just really long with lots of description and motivations and characters.
@Frank And exactly 1 interesting character out of the entire cast.
Book 5 did feel like a bit of a slog. But it's been a great story, and really good world building, overall.
@StrixVaria Eh. I found them interesting.
Everyone else could have gone and jumped into a big bonfire together and burned alive and the story would have been way more interesting thereafter.

Q: Are old-school RPGs games playable on a Steam Machine with a Steam controller?

ogregoireI'm thinking of buying a Steam Machine since I don't have a Windows PC at home anymore. On my Linux system, my filter "SteamOS + Linux" shows 152 games. Most are indie and are "simple" enough that I have no fear I'll be able to play them on a Steam Machine, but I have a few other games I like to...

@StrixVaria Who?
@Fluttershy Mat.
13:25
@StrixVaria I'm lkaughing really hard at this. It's great/.
One day I'll maybe but robably not but maybe read wheel of time maybe probabaly possibly not
@StrixVaria I hated Mat for the first like... 7 books. Now he's one of my favorites. Perrin is another one that has really grown.
@Fluttershy If you want insanely long books, Peter F. Hamilton has some very long space operas
Not quite as long as the Wheel of Time, but I think his longest series is split into three books with ~1000 pages each
@Fluttershy Perrin was super lame through book 5 at least. It's been a while since I gave up, but pretty much he was the master of inaction and wishing he wasn't as awesome as he was.
And there are multiple series in the same universe (in different time periods)
Although because in the future humanity is essentially immortal some of the cast repeat
Mat's innate magic power to just "be lucky" has really interesting implications and I'd have loved to see it explored more.
I'm sure it is over the course of the next however many books (9?), but I couldn't stand reading the rest of it to get there.
I mean, Wheel of Time has some other cool concepts going for it as well. Balefire is nuts.
13:33
@StrixVaria He stayed that way for a while, but really started to come into his own.
@Fluttershy How far are you?
@PrivatePansy I don't know that I can read space operas. Or anything set in space, really, for some reason.
Because he gets insanely badass around book 9.
@Frank Almost finished with Crossroads of Twilight. He's become a badass.
@Fluttershy Yeah. He doesn't fuck around when Faile gets kidnapped.
13:37
I think I may switch to lighter reading after I finish WoT. I need to read more Christopher Moore, so I may just start there.
It's been a while since I've read any Tim Dorsey stuff, too. Those are always fun.
@PrivatePansy Space Opera is definitely my cup of tea.
@Frank Have you read any of Iain Banks Culture books?
@Fluttershy Can't say I have.
@Frank I read The Player of Games for my book club a while back. Really enjoyed it. I dunno if it's really space opera, but it's good sci-fi.
13:50
I wish I knew more people who have read Tim Dorsey stuff.
@Fluttershy Culture is quintessential space opera, yes
@PrivatePansy Oh! Okay! I've never fully understood what constitutes a "space opera," as opposed to just like... Sci-fi.
@PrivatePansy Doesn't "space opera" just mean "the book is mostly about characters and character development, but set in space"?
@Fluttershy Huge, expansive universe; stories that span large number of locations and characters
@StrixVaria It's mostly about scale, I guess
So "space opera" is the sci-fi equivalent of "epic fantasy"?

9a3eediI have a gaming PC with an i7 3820. @StrixVaria To me, yes. Wikipedia has a definition that's similar, but also somewhat different
Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction set mainly or entirely in outer space, that emphasizes space warfare and melodramatic adventure, and often risk-taking as well as chivalric romance; usually involving conflict between opponents possessing advanced abilities, futuristic weapons and other sophisticated technology. The term has no relation to music but is instead a play on the term "horse opera", which was coined during the heyday of silent movies to indicate clichéd and formulaic western movies. Space operas emerged in the 1930s and they continue to be produced in literature, film, comics...
According to Wikipedia.
Oh, hey. Actual link would've worked better for me.
Wikipedia's definition is a little more expansive I think
That focus on story trope while I think more in terms of setting. They sound different, but one is a necessary consequence of the other
The following is a list of space opera media. Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that David G. Hartwell and Kathryn Cramer define as "colorful, dramatic, large-scale science fiction adventure, competently and sometimes beautifully written, usually focused on a sympathetic, heroic central character and plot action, and usually set in the relatively distant future, and in space or on other worlds, characteristically optimistic in tone. It often deals with war, piracy, military virtues, and very large-scale action, large stakes." The following are works that independent commentators have...
Almost every sci fi thing I know of is in this list.
Old Man's War isn't, but I think that's actually just because the list isn't comprehensive, and not because it's not a space opera.
13:59
@TrentHawkins Yep. Division players are actually making direct reference to that as a GOOD THING. It's baffling.
