@GnomeSlice I guess the basic concepts are similar, but overall style, and likely substance, are considerably different.
yeah fair enough I guess
I guess a better word would have been Archetypes
@Sterno tbh I assumed I would eventually get flagged down
@GnomeSlice Agreed. But I think that's more just because they're pretty much the norm these days, and not because of devs actively trying to copy or anything.
I really should submit "mods aren't blue on mobile" as a bug tho
15:04
Oh come on. Dude with gun pointing in a certain pose?
@Yuuki fast cool guy with a gun and a badass attitude
Man with gun is so cliche. How about guy with sword?
Anyway, I think @Fluttershy is right.
@Wipqozn urmom killed it at first
Most of them they don't actually look as much alike as I thought, they're just like... similar weapons and stuff?
15:05
Cc @Wipqozn on that mediocre burn
I'm #12 on March for Online Slang on Turkey on Quizup.
"on for on on"
#UselessAchievements
Mind you, I started playing Quizup today.
@GnomeSlice That's kind of how shooters work :P
Also, drat. I apparently missed my chance to spend even more money on Halo
Actually maybe just Atlas Reactor is copying everybody
15:07
Wasn't Paragon announced like a few days after Overwatch? Sounds like they just had really similar ideas during development
I've never heard of this Atlas game but that sounds possible
@GnomeSlice I don't think Marquis is very fast, but I can't remember enough about Battleborn to say for sure.
@twobugs It's like frozen synapse except with moba style abilities instead of everybody shoots
(I think)
Also it's being made by Trion so it will probably be meh
That... I can't even imagine how it'd work but oh Trion
Short answer: it probably won't
15:09
see also guy with gun:
@GnomeSlice That sounds cool
See also guy with gun:
Bearded cowboy is kind of an old archetype though
@GodEmperorDune haha true
15:11
I just want Overwatch to come out so I can freeze people with Mei. :(
Like I said it looks fun but Trion is kind of bleh
also you can play as a dog
What kind of dog?
a robot dog
he bites
15:14
Hmm, Rob Ford has died
@TimStone Oh shit
@TimStone Source? I literally just read an article saying he was moved to palliative care, but don't see any updates saying he died. :o
BREAKING: Former Toronto mayor #RobFord dead at 46.
Did he turn into a pile of white ash?
@TimStone Then I hope he has lived.
15:16
@MartinSojka Oh, he's lived all right.
Cocaine's a helluva drug
@GodEmperorDune Oh that's him?
@fredley noun project has a new partner lingoapp.com
@PrivatePansy he's the Canadian mayor who was caught smoking crack. Then tried to run again
smoking crack doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad mayor
15:22
Ponies vs. Hard disk. Ponies 1.
@GnomeSlice true, but it seems the city council tried to take his powers away
Robert Bruce "Rob" Ford (May 28, 1969 — March 22, 2016) was a Canadian politician, businessperson and Toronto City Councillor. He was the 64th Mayor of Toronto, serving from 2010 to 2014. Prior to being mayor, Ford was a city councillor. He was first elected to City Council in the 2000 Toronto municipal election, and was re-elected to his council seat twice. Ford was elected mayor in the 2010 mayoral election on a platform of reducing the "gravy train" of government expenses and taxes. The slogan "respect for taxpayers" was attached to that platform. During his political career, Ford has been the...
@PrivatePansy Heheh
@TimStone Jeez.
@KevinvanderVelden Although I do think I might have enough left to upgrade my disk too, but I'm keeping the money for now
15:24
@GnomeSlice It... Doesn't? O_o Since when does "blatantly performing illegal activities" not equate to "shouldn't be in a position of authority"?
My disks are just a tad full
@Fluttershy People screw up? He didn't do a bad job in office.
If you can keep your crack out of the office, who cares
@PrivatePansy also tiny
Obviously not torontonians
I mean, is C an SSD? That'd be fine, but the other ones o.o

Q: Can I use ender chests to transfer items from the end?

VargenMe and my friend found our first stronghold and activated the end portal. But wanted to wait with going there as we didn't know what to expect. Silverfish wanted none of that waiting and pushed us both into the end portal. We both died, but at least i was able to go back and get most of my stuf...

@GnomeSlice Man, you guys have such a different view on drug use than the US does
@GnomeSlice I don't know if it was just the crack that did him in. He seemed to do a bunch of clown like things
Here, smoking weed once is something that could bring down a political career
@SaintWacko where by you guys you mean mostly him?
@GnomeSlice I'm not, no, but I have a few friends who are and who were glad to see Ford out of office.
15:27
@SaintWacko But you're fine as long as you don't inhale.
@KevinvanderVelden Oh, I missed the context of that
user15026
@TimStone They were reporting yesterday that he was in palliative care for his cancer. They sounded hopeful, but I guess things were worse than they let on.
@Yuuki obama said he smoked weed in college
user15026
I mean yeah, he was a pretty bad mayor in a bunch of ways, but still. Its shitty when people die.
15:31
Why do so many people not take the time to simply Google stuff? That minecraft question up there was easily found the answer to using Google.
user4704
Google stealz your privacies though!
I stayed up way too late last night... completed both Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle.
I was surprised by how many sounds in Day of the Tentacle Remastered were outright replaced. The tentacle's sucker sounds when they hop around, for example.
0
Q: Does "Day of The Tentacle: Remastered" include the Maniac Mansion easter egg?

PhilippThe original version of Day of the Tentacle released in 1993 included an easter egg: The complete predecessor Maniac Mansion was playable by interacting with a computer in the game. Does the remastered version which was released in 2016 still include this?

Hyper Light Drifter releases March 31st!
I just went from hype... To Hyper!

15:37
@Sterno I cry everytime
@Fluttershy finally
PC and Xbox One
My comic shop is closing :(
4th one to open and close since I lived here
Did it do anything other than comics?
Records
@Sterno Should just do what the ones here does - stick a 50% markup on everything
15:46
this one is actually closing because the owner wants to do something else, not because it was losing money. That's a first
The one I usually go to also does board games and hosts tabletop gaming.
Which we still pay, because there's literally nowhere else that stocks comics
@PrivatePansy online beats that in the us at least
I'll have to go back to online again
@Sterno It's the same price online, but I kinda like the feeling of having paper in my hands
I usually just order trade paperbacks from Amazon instead
I don't mean digital. I mean mailed
15:48
Ah, okay. Yeah, no such option here
Places like TFAW are like 20% off, which makes up for shipping
good morning bridge
@Sterno Yes, TFAW is pretty good. Still annoyed at how they managed to screw up a backorder and send me a single order in three different packages rather than one though
I totally need to buy comics boxes, boards, and bags before he closes though. Shipping on those sucks
15:51
@GodEmperorDune Best webcomic
@SaintWacko toss up between xkcd and smbc
@GodEmperorDune xkcd is funny, but it can be a little self-congratulatory at times
XKCD tends to bounce between slice of life jokes, math jokes, science jokes, tech jokes, and 'Four people on earth get this joke.'
I just need Mr.Munroe to get back on board with doing What Ifs
@SaintWacko xkcd also tends to embrace the web format of the webcomic, with stuff like the interactive comics
@MadMAxJr Those are amazing
15:57
SMBC is a source of surprisingly ethnically diverse, slice of life and nerd jokes.
For XKCD, Relativistic Baseball remains my favorite.
If only for the diagram of the disintegrating pitch.
A McDonald's Big Mac contains 540 (dietary) calories of energy, or about 2,250,000 joules. The Sun's output is 382,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 joules per second. That's enough to tell us that we're going to have a hard time catching up with the Sun by eating more burgers.
@MadMAxJr yeah i do like the SMBC diversity of both characters and material
He does all the math. He researches papers and makes very reasonable guesstimates. Often the weird questions drives him to find the ODDEST research papers.
@MadMAxJr The last line was the best
> A careful reading of official Major League Baseball Rule 6.08(b) suggests that in this situation, the batter would be considered "hit by pitch", and would be eligible to advance to first base.
yep
the dry humor
so good
16:02
For a ball traveling at near FTL I question if the ball hits the batter or fuses with him.
He really likes adding speed of light into questions.
Apparently physics gets fun at that point.
Who wouldn't? Accelerating something to (near) the speed of light is a great way to get explosions!

Q: Skyrim purchasable houses

Matthew_m321I was wondering where I can buy a house in skyrim. Specifically, I need to know who I need to talk to and where they are. I have no DLC's and I play on Xbox. Currently I have breezehome and honeyside.

Perhaps one of my favorite images.
16:05
At 1.25 C your waterjet cutter works on other planets. From Earth.
It'll work on other universes as well
Thus solving 'How do we get clean usable water to other planets?'
Things break when you have 1.25 times infinite energy
Just have to solve the new problem of how not to cut them in half.
@Lazers2.0 greedy person, you already have 2 houses, and now you want more?
16:07
@Yuuki Haha, yeah
@KevinvanderVelden No, they don't. The math works on both sides of the c barrier just fine. It's crossing that barrier that requires you to break the universe.
@MartinSojka for you, maybe
@MartinSojka infinite energy multiplied by a positive constant is still infinite energy =p
some of us cross that barrier regularly
16:08
@GodEmperorDune What can I say? I'm just a fellow mortal, after all.
"Dear XKCD, how many cans of Red Bull does it take to reach C?"
"Well if Redbull gives you wings and the average man-bird sized wings gives X lift/thrust...."
@MadMAxJr humans are too fat to fly.
so what you're telling me is that C is a contradiction in terms and C++ is hopelessly broken
at least with wings
Which part of the human are the wings?
16:12
@Yuuki elbows, obvi
@Yuuki the same part that the buffalos have
I'll assume he'll use a prominent piece of art or legend, like Icarus as the basis for man-wings
@badp iff C++ = 1.5C
Good news, probably continuing as Microsoft Student Partner on next year too!
@Dragonrage C++ should be 2C
@ardaozkal they must have heard about your windows phone hyping :p
16:14
@Wipqozn Stop being dramatic, we all know you will be back, because no one else will pretend to be your friend.
@GodEmperorDune C++ = C+1
oh are we pinging @Wipqozn now?
@KevinvanderVelden Where do you get the infinite energy from? The formula for kinetic energy is (mc²)/sqrt((1-v²)/c²) - (mc²). If you put a v>c in there, you don't get infinite energy. You get imaginary energy.
Probably = was asked if I was free on 3 specific days in summer, and there is always a 3 day introduction event for new MSPs and MSPs that continue come too.
@GodEmperorDune were we not pinging him? did i miss something?
@Dragonrage Undefined behavior? :P
16:15
@Wipqozn and not pinging, u wot?
@Dragonrage lets ping @uni and cc @fredley for good measure
For example, at 2 c you get (mc²)/sqrt(-3) - (mc²).
@MartinSojka the bit where you get to that speed from a finite speed
Can we harness imaginary energy?
Yes but only for imaginary work
16:16
Oh wait, no, because you only used one post-increment operator
@KevinvanderVelden That's why I wrote that crossing that barrier requires breaking the universe. The other side is just fine. Just never cross c.
@MartinSojka Yes.
Breaking the universe or breaking a universe? Do we have a test instance universe handy?
@Powerlord how is that undefined behavior? the ++ operator simply increments so c++ is equivalent to c+1
1 min ago, by Powerlord
Oh wait, no, because you only used one post-increment operator
16:17
@GnomeSlice That was confirmed forever ago. It was always touted as an Xbone console-exclusive. :o
therefore if C++ is to be the same as 1.5C C=2
@Dragonrage c++ is equivalent to (c+=1,c-1), but only evaluates c once.
If I do cave in to getting Overwatch, do I want base or Origins?
therefore the speed of the light is 2
@Yuuki I'd go with origins, especially because I play other blizz games too.
16:19
Also, it has different integer overflow/underflow characteristics, but at this point you probably should already be heading for the bar to get a pint or three.
e = mc🔨
@MartinSojka not entirely sure what you mean by that.
@MadMAxJr If you pair that with a particle which has imaginary mass, you can even get real energy out of it. Which would transfer faster than light.
Okay you just made my head hurt.
@MartinSojka do you pronounce pint with a long or short vowel
16:21
So I need a giant hope and dreams vacuum to get a source of imaginary energy. Then I need to add imaginary mass. Then death ray.
@Dragonrage c++ increments c by one (thus: c+=1). But it also returns the previous value of c, so after c = 5; a = (c++);, a would have the value of 5 and c the value of 6. This is the same as c = 5; a = (c+=1, c-1);.
@Dragonrage with the i as in like
@MartinSojka oh, thats what you meant. i learned it slightly differently explanation-wise
the ++ just happens after the asssignment to a
The difference is in how often c is evaluated (so c(something) ++` and (c(something) += 1, c(something) - 1) behave differently when c(something) has side effects) and which overflow/underflow bits are set.
@Dragonrage I'm pretty sure that order is not defined, at least in C
16:24
It's defined in C++ given that you can overload it
@murgatroid99 It is, that's the difference between c ++ and ++ c.
@MartinSojka No, I mean that a=c++ might be evaluated as a=c; c+=1 or c+=1; a=c-1
They have the same result, but not the same execution order
@murgatroid99 And that's why I was using parentheses.
The compiler is probably still free to optimize it so you don't have to decrement
@MartinSojka I have no idea what c(something) means
16:26
@murgatroid99 It's a function or macro call.
OK, I think we were talking about separate things. You were talking about side effects, and I was talking about execution order
Anything moving at C is gonna result in a bad time.
@MadMAxJr or light
@murgatroid99 I didn't mean those parentheses. I meant the ones in a = (c++); - so we don't have to have the execution order, operator associativity and operator precedence discussion in addition to the one about what c ++ exactly means.
16:33
@MartinSojka OK, execution order was the only point I was talking about, and I don't think that's affected by parentheses
@murgatroid99 No, but by the comma operator.
user4704
That is correct; parens do not affect sequencing order.
Oh wow, just heard about the Belgium terror stuff on my way in. Crazy :(
user4704
Yeah :(
That's another annoying thing in C: in func(a(), b()), the two arguments can be evaluated in any order. In (a(), b()), they are guaranteed to be evaluated in the order they appear.
Like ... the hell, why?!?
16:36
Because one is a comma operator and the other is an argument separator.
user4704
Most instances of unspecified behavior like that exist to provide the implementor license to do things in the most efficient way for the platform.
Yes, and it is a way for me to deduce points from hapless job applicants as I cackle gloatingly, which I appreciate. Still a strange decision, in retrospect.
user4704
It's also a big reason why many instances of unspecified or undefined behavior remain in the standard. There's a whole study group dedicated to where and what such behavior to remove, and what to keep.
user4704
@MartinSojka And then you have T a(); and T b();, and operator,(const T & a, const T & b);, and then (a(), b()) is really the first one after all!
user4704

16:46
@Unionhawk cc @fredley
Pinging me twice for the same Archer gif? Shame on you.
Shame on your family.
Shaaaame.
Ping me once, shame on you. Ping me twice...
DOUBLE SHAME ON YOU
@fourbugs Am I doing it right?
16:53
@Ronan classic
@Ronan Definitely one of the more funny recent presidential gaffes
@twobugs I like how all the recent presidential gaffes are still GWB gaffes
> Fool me thrice makes an ass out of you and me?
Saving this for future use:
16:55
Technically a candidate
BUT STILL
@fredley All the best ones are
Obama had some gaffes but his are just boring
There's a really great story of GWB going around at some correspondence dinner and telling the same bad joke to different people hoping to get laughs
Plus his paintings are all incredible
What I'm getting at is I would really like to sit down and have a beer with GWB even though I think he was a Bad President
@twobugs He seems like a cool enough guy, yeah
I would also like to have a beer with B-Rock The Islamic Shock Hussein Super-Allah Obama
