@Frank couple with strict 80 character per line limits
@Frank Seems a little too specific. And shouldn't some of those things be implicit in the parameter names?
A good IDE will pick up on those
@PrivatePansy naah, that's all global state, much better that way
@Frank also I thought Java had polymorphism to avoid that sort of thing
@badp Isn't @Frank coding in some codebase around access? so I assume vb.
15:05
@Serverfrog That one has Bean and Singleton in it. It's literally worse than two Hitlers.
@Frank 65% of that title could be eliminated by looking at argument names.
@MartinSojka yhea
> Convenient proxy factory bean superclass for proxy factory beans that create only singletons.
@Arperum This one is C#.
So... it's a thing that calls a thing that creates a thing of which there can only ever be one
15:07
@PrivatePansy Yeah, overloaded methods with optional parameters would probably have done just fine for this.
And it is my privilege? to maintain and support this codebase.
@KevinvanderVelden Not quite. It's the bare-bones partial implementation (Abstract) of something that that creates (Factory) a stand-ins (Proxy) for other things of which there can be only one (Singleton) using the most brain-dead and verbose method possible (Bean).
@MartinSojka ... that is a much better explanation
Why couldn't they have said that?
Why, it's all in the name! Literally!
15:13
Yes, in much the same way that every piece of information is in a perfect noise source
Thermostat, you say it's 72 degrees in here. I don't believe you. (inb4 72C is literally death)
Not sure anyone would ever include the word "Bean" in a method-name in Java.
(or class name for that matter)
I see it as a warning to stay the hell away.
Especially since the window was open for a full hour without me noticing.
There is no way
@Unionhawk Maybe its Fahrenheit?
15:17
Oh wait it's not lying to me. Someone just set it to 67
This game....
Kinda cool that you can see your friend's scores
@Powerlord no, I mean Fahrenheit. It's just cold in here (and 67 is cold for room temperature)
@RPiAwesomeness Playing Goat Simulator?
@Powerlord hehe
@Unionhawk WHat is that in a sane temperature scale?
15:24
67
Or 72, depending on where you replied mobile damn you
@Arperum 292.594
@StrixVaria I assume kelvin?
I 80% expected an answer in Kelvin though.
Kelvin is not a sane temperature scale
15:30
@Unionhawk It is. It is the sanest.
No it isn't. It isn't reasonable or sane at all. Why would you say that.
A scale where 0 represents the actual lack of any of a thing? Rejected.
For your everyday use why the hell do I want a scale where it's always 200 something when I might as well subtract 200 something and get at least a slightly saner scale. Slightly.
@StrixVaria Dick move.
But I'm not going there.
15:33
@Unionhawk I didn't say I use it on a daily basis, I said it is the sanest.
THIS DISCUSSION ON TEMPERATURE SCALES IS CLOSED
@Arperum it is not the sanest. I can accept Celsius as sane, but never @kevin Kelvin
At least no one is trying to use the one that uses the Fahrenheit scale, but starts at absolute zero
@Unionhawk Accepting @kevin as sane would be rather insane.
NOW IT'S REALLY CLOSED
@SaintWacko That would be so ridiculous it wouldn't even be funny anymore.
15:36
@Arperum It exists. I don't remember what it's called, but it exists
Room temperature is like 700 degrees
Fahrenheit is better than Celsius because each degree represents a smaller change in temperature, therefore allowing for more precise temperatures without having to get into decimal places.

THIS DISCUSSION ON TEMPERATURE SCALES IS CLOSED
User puts in a ticket about how she can't save an order. I am unable to help, because I don't have enough information to help.
@StrixVaria that's dumb
15:37
I'm not starting that ridiculous discussion again.
@KevinvanderVelden Nice argument.
I request more information, and point out what I need.
@SaintWacko It begins with an R... Rankine maybe?
User does not provide said information.
@StrixVaria you know that, I know that, but they will never understand that.
Trust me. Don't bother.
15:38
A couple weeks later, I get a ticket from another user, stating that this is a problem, and it needs to get resolved.
sigh
It's not worth anything
1: Decimal places are not scary, 2: The common way of using farenheit seems to be low/mid/high farenheit which is less accurate, as @Uni realized a while back on this very chat
@StrixVaria may I type the rest first? :)
@KevinvanderVelden I dunno, everyone who lives on Decimal Place seems to be a psychopath.
@Sconibulus That sounds right
That street is terrifying on Halloween night.
15:40
OH god no. Not the farhenheit is dumb. Celcius is not precise enough discussion again.
They're not scary, but I'd rather not have to use them.
Ugh
Wikiwand needs to onebox
@Yuuki I'm missing the reference =p
GODDAMMIT @KEVIN YOU RUIN EVERYTHING
@KevinvanderVelden "Place" is a common suffix for an address (like "Road", "Drive", or "Street"). For example, "224 Decimal Place".
15:40
@fredley Can you make a userscript so that if I post a wikiwand link it converts it to a wikipedia link before it actually posts?
@Yuuki yes, that I got, I'm guessing that's as far as it went and I'm looking for to much in it?
@KevinvanderVelden Yes.
@KevinvanderVelden Do weather reporters guess down to the exact degree where you're from? Are they actually right down to the exact degree? I don't see how 2 is even a thing.
@SaintWacko I think gnomeslice once posted a feature request in that direction.
@StrixVaria whole degrees or a range of degrees for a timeframe
15:43
@Arperum Should we discuss what "pants" means? CC @OrigamiRobot

Everyone says just to use the wikipedia link, but it's quite difficulty to get the wikipedia link if you use wikiwand
@SaintWacko IIRC basically "stop being lazy and make it a wikipedia link you lazy bum" but formulated in a longer and not as friendly way.
@Arperum Yeah, pretty much, but how do you do that?
If all Wikiwand does is remove the incessant obstructive ads saying "we'll never have ads", that's an improvement.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! I NEED AN ADULT!
Biologically, an adult is a human being or other organism that has reached sexual maturity. In human context, the term adult additionally has meanings associated with social and legal concepts. In contrast to a "minor", a legal adult is a person who has attained the age of majority and is therefore regarded as independent, self-sufficient, and responsible. Human adulthood encompasses psychological adult development. Definitions of adulthood are often inconsistent and contradictory; a person may be biologically an adult, and have adult behavior but still be treated as a child if they are under the...

My wife absolutely has to switch the lights on the tree around so that no adjacent lights are the same colour. When the boys are older, I'm planning on spending the week before Christmas slowly swapping lights until they are in giant blocks of the same colour.
@JasonBerkan We have a pre-lit fake tree.
I guess I could probably still swap the light bulbs around though if I wanted.
At least you go for the colorful lights instead of the white lights. So boring.

I have to have my hours and project work time through the end of Friday turned in by noon EST today.
This is always fun, because if I get sick tomorrow or Friday, that means I get to file them again and get them approved again, and get people angry at me for making them repeat work again.
(This also applies if I'm pulled off to another project and have to change project times)
@Powerlord Yeah, I have to do the same thing at the end of each month
16:25
@SaintWacko Usually they're due at noon Fridays, but since next week is a Holiday week, they're due early.

> After two weeks ignoring the aggregator, [Germany's] largest news publisher Axel Springer returned to the fold, citing a 40 percent drop in traffic from web search the reason.

They don’t do that with smaller aggregators, like i.E. Blogs that do weekly link collections (History News of the Week and stuff like that). So, basically, the just destroyed everyone else, so only Google’s left. Which is the exact opposite of what they wanted. Also, everyone told them that this is gonna happen." - commenter
@Yuuki That's talking about what happened in Germany
> [Germany's] largest news publisher
In Spain, they "fixed" that problem by preventing publishers from opting in with Google (or anyone)
mhh Axel Springer is 1km from my current position o.o
17:29
So Google is like Obi-Wan Kenobi? Strike them down (or try to) and they shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine?
So, Germany ended up with just Google News. Spain will end up with nobody
@Yuuki You're thinking sith, but sure why not
@Batophobia Obi-Wan's line is literally: "You can't win, Vader. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."
@Batophobia No, that is Obi-Wan's line in Star Wars.
This weekend my wife works 2 14-hour shifts, so I'll be alone in charge of a 2.5 year old and a 4 month old. I might not still be alive on Monday.

Unless of course you're saying that Google is Sith.
@Sterno sounds like you need a lifehack
Indeed
@Sterno How is your 4 month old doing? Still cry a lot?
@Yuuki Totally thought that was the Emperor's line. I stand sit corrected
@StrixVaria He's gotten a lot better over the last month. He's like a normal baby now
17:33
@Sterno Nice!
@Batophobia Why are you standing at your computer?
so still an ungodly amount of crying
@Rapitor Yes, but now I can do things like rock him to sleep, whereas before no matter what I did he'd just scream for 4 hours

@Sterno I am scared to have another baby. I think this one has lulled me into a sense of false security so any future babies would literally kill me.
@Yuuki I had a professor that opted to have a standing desk setup claiming it was healthy

Ughhhh. I wrote some MIT open source code and this guy downloaded it, changed all the URL to point to his site, and is now redistributing it. Perfectly fine. But someone has a bug with it, and I'm trying to help, and he is getting uppity about me saying that I wrote the code...
@StrixVaria I don't think it would be so bad with 2 parents around. It's my wife's work schedule that is killing me.
@Yuuki Germany's largest news publisher that we really could do without. The whole Leistungsschutzrecht is completely stupid.
When she's around, I play with my daughter and she watches the infant. That works well
Or are you saying they'd actually, like, grab knives and attack you in your sleep?
At work we have adjustable desks, so some people alternate between standing and sitting
17:36
@Ktash His URL, his problem
No, but like, when it's time for bed, we just put her down and she falls asleep eventually. When she wakes up in the morning, she just quietly waits until we check on her.
There is no crying unless you take a bottle away mid-feeding.
@murgatroid99 Can I set it to a "laying down" setting?
@Batophobia they don't go that low
@Batophobia That's any setting. Lay on top of the desk
@OrigamiRobot deskhack

@Batophobia Nah, I do want to help the customer (and make sure I don't have a bug somewhere). And he clearly has no idea how to help. The 'tude is just really annoying
Or under it.
@StrixVaria You are right to be worried. She is clearly some kind of alien that is sent here to observe you before the full assault team comes.
@Sterno No one believes us when we say how good she is.
@Ktash Is this communication along the lines of: Ktash <-> d*****bag <-> customer?
Though really by about 5-6 months that's how it goes. By then my daughter would mostly only cry if she was over-tired (which happened as she got older because it's hard to sleep at daycare) or if she woke up hungry at night
She has slept through the night, every night, since the 3rd night after we brought her home. The first 2 were rough. If every night was like that, I would not be a functional human.
@StrixVaria -good +deceptive
Yay, landed my refueling tanker 40m from the mun lander, without MechJeb's autoland
@StrixVaria I do. My last two were like that. The first two. Not so much.
@StrixVaria I pretty much hate you forever now.
17:41
@Yuuki Haha thankfully no. I don't have to interact directly with them. He posted my code with his urls on a forum, so we're all having a discussion in the thread about it. So when I try to help the customer, he gets all butt-hurt about my "claiming" to have written the code
I don't get a full night's sleep and I don't have kids
@Ktash If it's on a forum, you should just PM the customer directly, explain the situation, and have a private dialogue.

@Yuuki That's not a bad idea. I may have to just go that route.

@Batophobia Already done. And when I did, he got all uppity about the fact that it is MIT and he can change all the urls and call it his code and neener-neener-neener lol
@Ktash So then it's his problem for changing it
Which was funny, because really all I said was "I'd appreciate some credit" and he got defensive real quick lol

@Yuuki I'm very much in favor of this
@Yuuki ... if it didn't lock me into it for a month, I would totally go change it right now
@Sterno Is it?
17:51
@Chuck I was referring to the guy who took your code and changed the URLs, not you.
@Wipqozn I dunno. Korra hasn't been that bad. I mean Aang was better, but still.
