Q: In Dark Souls 2, is the area boss required for PVP to be active?

In Dark Souls 2, should the area boss still be alive for PVP to be active in that area? That is to say, should I leave the boss alive so I can get invaded and see summon signs? Or is it still possible to receuve invasions and see summon signs even if the area boss is dead?

Download the Beta Client over at The Orbital Gear Website
Once downloaded and extracted, start OrbitalGearLauncher.exe.
At the Login/Registration screen create a new account (E-Mail does not have to be the same as the one you used to sign up for the beta).
When the registration is complete you will receive a verification code to the E-Mail that you registered with. The code will be required the first time you log in only.
Once logged in, activate the beta key which you received in this mail in the upper right corner.
