@BenBrocka Let me get this straight: you, as a UX designer, want to be able to access programs in four inconsistent, incompatible and inefficient ways.

You want to have to rely on search. You want to have to rely on the MRU/MRI list of programs. You want to have to rely on the hierarchical mess of the Windows 7 days. You want to have to hunt for the icons in the incomplete list of tiles there.

You are okay with this and think it's great interaction design.

I think the main problem with the start screen is that it probably should've been the start desktop. Having both a set of tiles to organize on the start screen and a bunch of icons to organize on the desktop does not make sense. (On the other hand you can't put files on the start screen)

It probably was too colorful for taking the role of the desktop, however.

To be clear the only reason I want the start menu back is so windows + typing no longer hijacks the entire screen. fullscreen hijacks are my only real problem with Windows 8, I do not want them on my desktop pc or even tablet pc

I'd certainly go AMD for a budget computer, but the last time I looked (which was when I bought my i2500K) AMD didn't have anything beating that performance. You could get more cores from AMD for the same price, but that isn't really a big advantage for most games

@Ender It's usually built into the motherboard now, lots of times you just go into a setting and say "okay 10% overclock!". Risks are overheating (it will run hotter, all depends on cooling) and crashes (you can run Prime95 to stress-test)

The lack of competition at the high-end is really annoying, the current Intels are only at 3.4 GHz (and do a bit more per GHz than my 2500K), but I could easily overclock to ~4 GHz if I ever feel the need. If they were pushed more by AMD I bet they would be a lot faster right now

Q: When you kill someone, do you get his hat?

I don't know if it's just my own misinformation, but I've always believed that if you kill an enemy wearing a hat, you have a higher chance of receiving his hat in the next drop. Does this have a ring of truth to it, or am I just full of baloney?

oh btw you know the Event Horizon rune on Black Hole? I did some testing on Elites: You know those pesky arcane sentry? Gone. Molten bombs that explode? Gone. Poison pools? Sucks them away (or towards you, pro-tip: don't cast it on top of you while there's pools around. ) Frozen orbs? pulse? thunderstorm? orbiter? Gone, Kirby'ed away.
