Q: Where can I get cheap soccer jerseys?

user54150I don't need world soccer shop or the teams' sites. i'm talking about jerseys that sell for under 30 or 40 dollars.

@Lazers Not sure if spam or actual game feature.

user15026
@FEichinger spam.

@AshleyNunn Or just retarded user. Other question: gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/128823/…

user15026
@Arperum Thats true

@AshleyNunn What should I flag for?

user15026
7:04 AM
@Arperum ....off topic, I suppose, if you cant VTC

Flag for spam, burns it faster.

user15026
@FEichinger neeeeeergh, I dont like that idea

I can't VTC yet. And it will probably be like that for a while, making proper answers requires effort.

user20683
I can make proper answers

user20683
even to stuff I don't know

user20683
7:07 AM
like "How do I operate a hot dog stand?"

@FEichinger From the game wiki: " To acquire more goods, you must purchase them from clothing companies with medals, a special currency that is harder to acquire than money."

user15026
@Weston.h buy hotdogs, sell them to people who like them, tadah

So the question makes either no sense, or is spam.

user15026
@MartinSojka It has nothing to do with the game, trust me, I have played it extensively

user20683
Make sure to include mayonnaise or whatever that stuff is if I want to sell them to the Dutch. All the fixing for Chicago, make sure to have some tofu ones in California. It really is all about audience. You're right.

user15026
7:10 AM
@Weston.h Gotta know your toppings...

user20683
yep

If you're in Germany: Take a half year course in economics and relevant laws, acquire three different certification (food processing, hygiene and privacy policy), and pay your local Turkish or Russian Mafia branch some "insurance money" on top of that to remain in business.

user15026
@MartinSojka or you know, just make yourself a hotdog, enjoy it, and fuck the rest.... :D

user20683
@MartinSojka There's also the small matter of actually licensing the cart if I remember correctly.

Yeah, the paperwork can easily amount to a big binder per year even if all you want to do is to sell hot dogs.

7:17 AM
I kinda not really liking to do his, but did Dragoness gave a second bounty to Guilo?

Together with the earlier things Retrosaur found, that seems a lot like rep transferring to me.

Yep.
The other bounty was "caught" thanks to @badp refunding it and doubling it up (which eventually expired, thankfully).

What's the best way to bring this case (again) under mod attention?

user15026
@Arperum flag with a custom reason

7:21 AM
Custom flag against the question.

@AshleyNunn @FEichinger Done.

7:38 AM
@FEichinger Oh ffs

@badp Hm?

@FEichinger Hey, you gotta support yourself in hard times and wrong answers.

@Arperum When I saw it first, it had only that comment and an upvote. It took me three times to even reasonably understand what that answer is supposed to tell me.
I figured "the usual" and downvoted it because I felt it was very convoluted - I don't own the game so I have no idea if it's valid. Now I see the subsequent "It's wrong, dude." comments and I'm like ...

@FEichinger dual account?

@Blem We established "Pretty damn likely." quite a while back.
It screams collusion regardless of the amount of actual people involved, though.

@Blem And proof keeps piling up every now and then.

@FEichinger The good thing is that he won't get this bounty, get at least 6 more upvotes without extra downvotes will take more then available for him.

12:05 PM
@shanodin That's how it should work. However, in practice, some of this site's users don't really follow that guideline, especially people who love downvoting. Some downvote due to hating a certain category of questions, like all lore questions, and some downvote due to comments of a user unrelated to the question at hand. E.g. gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/128463/… If other downvoters do that (and it is indeed not against site policy to do so), then One-One is free to (up/down)vote this question for any reason he deems valid too. — galacticninja 2 days ago

12:10 PM
@FEichinger The only category of questions that I categorically downvote is 'stupid'.
That said, there is very little daylight on the venn diagram between 'stupid questions' and 'lore questions'.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm talking about people flat-out equating "lore" and "stupid".
There are good lore questions and a load of out-of-the-blue-with-no-apparent-train-of-thought-that-led-there stupid lore questions.

If the end result is that people stop arguing about whether or not a downvote or upvote is "correct", I call it a win.

@Sterno Definitely.
I'm just saying that he does have a point, somewhere in that mess of pointless arguing. It's not a point that should matter anywhere, but it's a valid point no less.

We already have a definition of a "stupid" lore question, and it's "is not actually covered by the canon"
like "What taste is the cake in Portal 2?"
and we don't downvote those, we close them.

@badp Exactly.

12:18 PM
@badp Did someone ask that or is it made up on the spot?

@Arperum the latter

You can have a stupid question that is not off-topic.

I have never understood, and it is unlikely I will understand, the stance where a lore question has to change the way you play a game to be a good lore question

And now I want to know what kind of cake it is.

@badp No, plenty of other lore questions are perfectly on topic, but are also stupid.

Q: How does the hero knows the identity of Belial?

This is a Very Stupid Question.

12:24 PM
Ahh, good old "poke the plot hole", a staple of SciFi.SE

@Sterno Just don't get your poking stick stuck.

Sounds uncomfortable.

@badp You know as well as I do that just about anything gets through that rule by asking "Is $STUPID PLOT HOLE ever addressed?"; the primary purpose of the nothing from outside the game rule is that it keeps us away from dumb questions about usually dumb tie-in novels.
It doesn't usually help at all with truly dumb lore questions.

I just want you all to know that I appreciate this Monday Morning Drama.

oh... tie-in novels...

12:31 PM
minor though it may be

@LessPop_MoreFizz actually I'm pretty sure I supported the dumb tie-in novels; it should not support the "is plot hole addressed"
I don't usually look at question open/close matters because I tend to disagree with a large portion of the community and it's better for everybody involved if I let somebody more in sync with the community on the matter keep an eye on it

@badp Pretty sure we've explicitly banished questions about dumb tie in novels to scifi.se

like, yes, if it's flagged I'll intervene but I don't look at review questions

It seems problematic to judge a question's on-topicness by what the answer to the question is.

@Sterno it's not so much "what the answer is" but "is there an answer?"

12:33 PM
@badp Same problem.

(where "there is no answer" is not an answer, but a close vote)

So I can only vote to close poke the plot hole questions if I know for sure it's a plot hole, and can't VTC any if it's actually addressed in game?

@Sterno well, don't we apply kind of the same reasoning to unreleased content stuff? There is no answer about those, so we close them. If there would be an answer it'd necessarily speculate on unreleased content and thus we close the question. This is so we prevent the question from getting answers. And that's the whole point of closing.
@Sterno that's how I understand it.

Yeah, but it's really easy to determine unambiguously if a game is released or not.

@badp "Answerability" is a terrible metric for question cromulence, and ought never be employed. This is why I'm fond of just outright closing any question about unreleased content, because it sidesteps the "Is this answerable" nonsense.

12:35 PM
By what you said, I'd VTC that one that @LessPop_MoreFizz just linked.

@Sterno How is it still a plot hole if it's addressed in the game?

...I really need to actually write down this meta post I've had dancing around in my head for weeks.

@LessPop_MoreFizz but it's the very same criteria! The question is not answerable. It's just easier to apply.

@FEichinger That's my point. It requires knowing the answer ot know if it's actually "poke the plot hole". Though to be fair, you can still play "poke the plot hole" and get answers that are more justifications than actual explanations.

Ease of application never struck me as a requisite for policies. If questions could be closed and opened by Turing machines, they would
Knowing what you're talking about is always a requisite for voting on posts

12:38 PM
@badp Well, the end result then is you can't just have a meta policy that says "We close these", because you're going to get all the people with close votes arguing about whether or not the question actually has an answer.

@Sterno If there is an argument - if somebody actually answers the question - then there is an answer, right?

For instance, I'd consider the answer to this to not really be an answer.
"The hero knows because he's not a moron"

@Sterno That answer doesn't actually cite the canon tbh and really stinks of speculation
"He just has to know right?"

That's not a canon-based answer... that's a justification for the most likely path of getting from Point A to point B
You can do that with most poke the plot hole questions unless they're gaping plot holes

(downvote)

12:42 PM
Coincidentally, after watching Olympus Has Fallen on Friday, I googled about some of the plot holes in that movie and my main hits were Movies.SE

Whee! S.E. is the number 1 source for fridge logic!

I'm not clear what the difference is between their and tags.

Well, explanation could be, "Can you help me understand why this happened" where inconsistency might be "If he had that giant rocket launcher, why didn't he blow up the bad guy 10 minutes in"
although, I'm not on that site, so I can't be sure

The more I look at Movies.SE, the more I think it might be worse than SciFi.SE

Q: Were the direct references to Die Hard and Under Siege made on purpose?

Christian RauWhile Olympus Has Fallen was in its main theme and overall plot quite similar to many action movies of that kind, there were two particular scenes that I understood as direct references to two genre classics: The scene where Banning meets the traitor Forbes reminded me very much of the scene in...

Let me rephrase that as "Does this derivative action movie simply steal from other action movies, or is it specifically paying homage?"
Let's classify this under: WHO THE FUCK CARES and NO ONE CAN ANSWER THIS ANYWAY
(unless it's in director's commentary, I guess)
That the question exists is not what makes me sad. The sadness is for the upvotes. Always for the upvotes.

Well, there may be some interview with ... whoever the hell did that movie. That damn Swabian again, I guess.
Just checked and funnily enough it isn't. Strange, it has explosions and seems somewhat patriotic.

It'd be hard to make an unpatriotic movie about enemies taking the White House unless it was from the non-US point of view.
That said, I have no idea who or what Swabian is or what you're talking about. :)

@Sterno Emmerich
He's a Swabian, from Sindelfingen.

12:57 PM
I guess I don't know directors enough to care where they're from.
or to know them as "that damn Swabian"
He made the other White House Gets Taken Out movie

@Sterno That's to differentiate him from that damn Rhinelander (Boll).

I like Uwe Boll. He cranks out shitty movies for all the video game IP, and it's all under one director instead of a bunch. This is helpful to me because it makes them really easy to identify and avoid.

@StrixVaria That budget sounds inaccurate.

Without a hint of irony, he says, "We submitted The Room to the Academy Awards. We didn't get anything, but we filled in the application and submitted it... I'm proud we did that."

@LessPop_MoreFizz I wish is was possible to ignore people on the main site. His passive-aggressive vote-martyr bullshit is annoying.

@Fluttershy Who are we talking about?
I have a pretty good idea though.

Good morning, Bridge
What did I just walk into?
Is @Fluttershy being shifty again and talking about me behind my back?

@fbueckert Probably.
@fbueckert I have 79 Diablos cortex.

I agreed with @fbueckert at least twice last week. It was a terrible week.

@Sterno I felt the urge to set stuff on fire several times. Sadly, I had to restrain that impulse.
Also, there seems to be somebody systematically downvoting all my questions. Never more than one or two a day, but it's still happening.

@fbueckert Must be someone with low rep. Anyone else would realize the 100-200 rep tops it'll end up costing you in the long run is completely meaningless.

@Sterno Could be. It's pretty minor, just slightly annoying.

You need to instead relish this. You clearly annoyed someone enough that they stayed mad over multiple days and will let this affect their life enough to make downvoting one or two of your questions a day part of their daily routine.
So your annoyance at the downvotes is nothing compared to what they're feeling.

@Sterno I never thought of it that way.
I've annoyed someone to the point of deliberate stealth downvotes.

Also, bad suggestion for the day!

Q: Increase upper limit of bounty

danny117Bounty upper limit of 50k because 500 seems outdated and cheap. If newbie gets a good answer in more power to them. Edit. Think of it like Jeopardy. @BenBrocka Don't worry, @AshleyNunn is probably sleeping.

> Maybe if this gets to -100 I'll take it down.

@fbueckert This is my favorite part: 500 I'm asking for 3000 on one question right now. I have the answer working and won't share it till I get 3k for it. Don't think me bad I'm still participating its just on one question that the community and blogs can't answer yet.

Sigh
Try crazy file transfer shenanigans, all network connectivity goes down

@MartinSojka If one's life revolves around making people lose few rep on SE, that's pretty lame.

Go to help desk, they say "check cable number", report cable number, they say "looks okay, here's a replacement cable"

@MartinSojka My job is a very large number of tasks all centered around fostering a happy community. Investigating ill situations is as much a part of the job as lecturing folk and writing giant meta posts and working on our newsletter.

@GraceNote I thought your whole job was writing giant Meta posts about how we're all getting it wrong. :P

2:06 PM
Take replacement cable to desk - the non-desktop side of the existing network cable was sitting outside of its slot - literally one centimeter away from the number I'd read two minutes earlier

I dunno if I can write this down to tunnel vision, or if it's just me being dumb.

@badp I've done that before.

@GraceNote I assumed 7 downvotes were mostly trivial, but if you want me to complain more I will gladly do so.

It's the reason I try to ask the simple things first, just in case.

Mission Accomplished.

These kinds of pictures make me feel so small..

@GraceNote Oh I was joking about the meta post. I do think it is just vindictive downvoting as it came after I downvoted a lore question and most of the downvotes are on posts over a year old.

@BenBrocka The weirdest thing was that the thing I disliked in that was players earning 1-3 stars for their score.

@3ventic ... and then you realise almost every single ball in the lower two-thirds is a nuclear explosion. One which is still going on and will be doing so, in some cases, for billions of years.

@RonanForman The thing I dislike most is the implicit touch controls, but I assume that's deliberately not touched on

2:16 PM
@MartinSojka exactly.

@BenBrocka Ha. Haaaaaa!

Also "craftables" pretty much always mean trouble in F2P games, let alone "rare craftables"

@BenBrocka How would you have made the controls?

Craft 200 turnips for a chance at a red turnip! Craft 20 red turnips and unlock...Original Character, Blario!

Q: Best vehicle for each stage in Hill Climb Racing

CeltaIn Hill Climb Racing we have several vehicles and several stages. Different vehicles have different performances on the same stage, and I'd like to know what are the best combinations to maximize distance in each stage. Also, what is the best combination vehicle-stage to farm coins?

Apparently, the Chinese military believe Pacific Rim is American Propaganda in disguise.

My dislike at the stars is that 1. Every game does the same thing and 2. It's not obvious how to maximize your score. So the stars would seem random.

@fbueckert You sound surprised. Why is that?

2:18 PM
@fbueckert Isn't propaganda inherently in disguise?

@OrigamiRobot Extra background helps give us a place to start the investigation, but we've worked from less, for better and for worse.

@RonanForman Yeah, that's lame too. Though in some games you actually physically grab the stars, like Cut the Rope, I find it's okay there

@OrigamiRobot Depends on how much the media is controlled by interested parties.

In simpler terms, the more information we are given, the more we can work with. Hey, it's kinda like how it's better when questions have as much data as possible.

But whenever I see a list of levels and 3 empty stars on each I generally assume I'm in for a bad time

2:20 PM
@BenBrocka That is true, he should either change platform or change the play style, but considering this is an exercise in making SMB3, he can't do the latter.

If you control all the media, and they're not allowed to print/report anything you don't approve of, does it really need to be in disguise?

@BenBrocka You know where the stars come from, that's the important bit.

@GraceNote I know, I just didn't know how much information you already had access to. Like I'm pretty sure I don't need to give links to the downvoted posts. They're all on the same day and are the only activity for said day.

@RonanForman Yeah, but SMB3, even as a relatively easy platformer, would be very annoying to control without major "reworking", which would almost certainly mean dumbing it down (or making it a completely 100% different game)

It would probably be something like "canabalt but mario" since the endless runner thing seems huge in mobile

@BenBrocka Turn it into one of those Marble tilting games for the control scheme.

@BenBrocka What about touch the right side of the screen for right, left for left, both for jump and... I don't know about crouch and shoot fire.

@OrigamiRobot Oh, it's more like grouping and such, things that aren't obviously in one giant cluster for me to see on your profile.

@RonanForman Still too slippery

@BenBrocka Slippery?

2:23 PM
Shantae was only playable on iOS because it's a much slower paced platformer

Somebody needs to make a turn-based platformer.

you need precise controls for a game like SMB3. Touch controls are far too easy to touch too early or too long (or worse, in the wrong place) and generally increase reaction time (since you can't leave your finger literally on the button)

I am mainly upset that my rep is no longer a multiple of 5.

So at best it's like playing SMB 3 while highly intoxicated. Though in reality I could probably play SMB 3 drunk on NES and have a better time controlling than sober on touch controls

@OrigamiRobot Go downvote some answers.

2:26 PM
@BenBrocka I'd have to test these controls before I could comment on that.
Which is something I'm not going to do.

@MartinSojka I think I saw a link to one of those earlier today

@BenBrocka Right now I'm trying to think of what would be the most frustratingly high-reaction platformer that I could suggest porting to touch controls.
But then I remember that, in some odd turn of events, they ported Dodonpachi of all things to iOS and I still don't know how it is that people actually have a positive opinion of it.

@GraceNote Shmups of any sort would suck. Your own fingers would obscure the screen.

@RonanForman You can try 'em out on an emulator, granted emulator virtual controls aren't quite as good as manually rejiggered touch controls....but manually fixed controls are only slightly better

@fbueckert See the line immediately following, though to be fair I imagine that most folk would use a stylus for that (but that said, that'll still obscure a thin line and that's all you need obscured to die in a game like Dodonpachi).

2:31 PM
I think it was called something like RocketCar

@GraceNote Bullet hell shooters work surprisingly well on touch actually, because all you really need to do is move and sometimes tap to bomb (and in most cases, autoshoot)
Most shmups on mobile use "relative touch", so you press your finger anywhere and your ship follows the movements of your finger, not the finger itself
As long as the game is primarily movement based rather than precise button pressing based it works far far better than most genres do on touch

@Sconibulus Bump, for example. Randomly generated levels too.

@GraceNote as far as platformers, pretty much anything that isn't a one button "hold to run" or "tap to jump" it doesn't work for shit. Stuff like Jetpack Joyride works well, but it's not really a "platformer" per say

@GraceNote I can't say I've heard of Dodonpachi.

Tyrian with a mouse drove me nuts for precision movement so I'm not sure that I'd feel that much better with a touch control, but I haven't tried it.

2:33 PM
Monster Dash is quite a bit more platformy...and quite a bit more annoying to control because of that

@fbueckert It's one of Cave's more commonly known curtain fire shmups, generally involving very weird timelines and the eventual not-actually-eponymous angry bee boss at some end point who will flood the screen with bullets.

@GraceNote It feels a lot better than mouse control IMO, you get a really good feeling of how much you need to move. However it'd be a nightmare on iphone or whatever because of the dinky touch surface

@BenBrocka One thing I do know is that the iOS port does actually allow you to unlock Hibachi (the aforementioned angry bee) so at that point you get to flood the screen with bullets yourself so...

Don't have dodonpachi actually
I do love Hitogata Happa for letting you do something similar though

There's this guy that comes into the lab every night to play LoL and he's kind of creepy.

2:37 PM
But it's "super powered" characters are actually pretty specialized and require more skill than you'd think (and they are crazy expensive so you can only buy a few)

Campus security just came in and arrested him for something.
Crazy

Guess he got...ganked
3

@BenBrocka HAH
I've never seen someone get arrested in person before.

I feel like listening to some Dai-fukkatsu after all this Dodonpachi talk that I started.
Oh, wow, a MARDEK 2 question. I hadn't expected to see any of those here.
It's also one I'm curious enough to know the answer to, too.

Ouya should do like flash sites used to do. Pay $5k-10k for free, exclusive titles.
This tweet has more sense than everyone involved with Ouya

2:45 PM
@BenBrocka I don't get it

Flash game sites would regularly (and probably still do) pay developers a small sum of money (a few $K) for them to develop flash games that would only be released on their site, or have exclusive content on their site, so you would use their site to play that game because Newgrounds or Kongregate wouldn't have it
Armor Games does it a lot, many of their games have extra content on armorgames.com or only exist there (legitmately, anyway)

Oh, crazy

Not that crazy, they'd make it back in ads/whatever

Is it possible to enforce an exclusive for Ouya?

And it's a much more sensible approach than Ouya's, which is basically "make a kickstarter promising to be ouya exclusive, AND reach your goal, THEN we'll give you money. Later."
Which is basically "perform a miracle that clearly proves you have no actual need of Ouya funding, then we'll give you Ouya funding. Also neuter your sales potential massively. Thx"

2:50 PM
I need the help of a German speaker for legalese clarification

@BenBrocka That sounds like a terrible idea from Ouya

They seem to think they are legitimately in competition with major consoles and thus exclusive to Ouya is no more debilitating than exclusive to Xbox/PS

> voraussichtlicher inländischer Jahresarbeitslohn

> "If Ouya wants to be truly indie-friendly it needs to allow indie developers to spread their wings if they find success on the platform," he wrote. "Exclusivity should not be part of that, especially not for a console that is unlikely to be able to support a developer on its own. Ouya should be the console you also release your games on."

2:51 PM
Is this my yearly expected income or my expected income this year

@fbueckert No, look at Towerfall

Google Translate says yearly but I want to make sure.

@GnomeSlice yeah, I don't like their focus on exclusivity. It's dangerous for devs, and it's antithetical to the "open" thing

@fbueckert Depends on your contract, but generally they ask for timed exclusivity at the least, something like 6 months I though
> "Only allowing console-published developers to release a game on Xbox means that indies are basically forced to go through either Microsoft Game Studios or — ironically — PlayStation to be able to launch on the platform."

2:53 PM
@BenBrocka I mean, you, as the developer, can only develop for the Ouya, but wasn't the whole point of Ouya to provide a single open platform? If it works for it, it should work for basically any and every Android device.

@badp Yearly is correct.

Leave it to MS to continue to find ways to push people to Playstation

@BenBrocka He can't see the link.

@fbueckert Yeah, but you'd have to find some way to grab the APK and sideload it onto an android device. And even then it might depend on some Ouya framework or something; not sure if their physical controller uses standard Android or a framework of some sort
Never bothered looking into the details of making an ouya game
At it's pre-retail release the excitement among devs was it was so easy to port to Ouya. I think that's where the focus should be

@MartinSojka Okay. So that's 1-1 for each interpretation of the sentence

2:58 PM
@badp Well, it's not a sentence ... Anyway, "Jahresarbeitslohn" means "yearly salary" or "salary for one year". "Salary for this year" would be "diesjähriger Arbeitslohn" or more likely explicit "Arbeitslohn für den Zeitraum von 1. Januar 2013 bis 31. Dezember 2013 einschließlich."

@MartinSojka The context is the "Antrag auf Erteilung einer Bescheinigung für das Kalenderjahr 2013 für beschränkt einkommensteuerpflichtige Arbeitnehmer"
towards the bottom of page 1.
