Each generation is a reboot with a new plot and has nothing to do with previous games.

I don't know about gen 6, but I think it's all new pokemon like gen 5 was.

@GraceNote I like doing weird builds and stuff in most games, but I get stressed about them not performing well if I have to do stuff with other people.

@FAE One thing that might help is that in new gens the TMs aren't expended when you use them, and you can use the Move Relearner to have a pokemon remember a move he knew at a lower level.

I've got some stupid builds (31 ATK IV Adamant Tyranitar, oh what a lucky catch that Larvitar was), but I also have a handful of unusual builds that I love using and that work fairly well.
