IT's a very specific example of how people are opening and closing because it hits the right keywords, but it's the same question.

We don't fix questions by completely changing the question, we just ask "What. is he really asking?", and make the question reflect that, instead of what he actually asked in the question.

Sometimes a user could be asking one thing, but in reality what they really want the answer to is something else. We help this make the question reflect what they are actually asking. This isn't just with regards to opening and re-opening, but making the question as clear and answerable as possible.

It's like when someone asks "What's the best skill in Game X?"

We can't answer that.

But after doing a back and forth in the comments we find out what they're really looking for is something like "Which skill has the highest DPS in Game X?"

So we edit the question to reflect that, and it stays open.

I've been watching a Last of Us let's play after I play each section and I've noticed that when he comes upon a number of items in one place, they all get picked up at once. Is there a way to pick up a bunch of stuff at once, or is he just hammering the triangle button?

Nevermind, found it. I didn't realize that the "Related Questions" sidebar could produce useful results!

Interestingly, the top answer on that is "because it's not a real problem you face", but the top answer on the "should we close questions that aren't a real problem you face?" meta is basically, "Usually not."

but yeah, I agree 110% that the "problem we face" thing has so many problems and is used in so many contradicting ways we should just avoid using it.

If we could come up with an agreed upon definition of what it means, and apply it consistently that would be fine... except we don't.
