Did anyone tell the Center for Disease Control that Monday wasn't April 1st?
What is the sky dimension in minecraft?
(a recent tweet mentions it)
@RavenDreamer A magical place where falls from the sky.
That's really starting to get old.
@Powerlord You know what's down the pit? Bacon. Lots of bacon. And... a farm! Beautiful pig farm. Fresh bacon.
AWW YEAH
GOT THE WITCHER 2
HAHAHAHA wait crap I need to start asking questions
uhmmm
20:09
Spoiler Alert: There's an 'almost' sex scene in the first 10 minutes of the game.
pfft, it's The Witcher
you might as well call the game Dungeons and Dragons and Sex
@Mana and... oh wait, @RavenDreamer is getting tired of me saying the B word.
okay, my first question: Who is this handsome gent on the cover of The Witcher 2?
@Mana The same person it talks about on the back of the box?
Second question: When The Witcher 2 claims it has a mature story, is this a subtle allusion to the...ahem...maturity of the many women involved therein?
20:15
Did this guy not read my post 3 above him saying that it's intentionally limited to avoid having multiple pages?
The Witcher 2 is officially the most sadistically difficult game I've played
I just thought I've learned the combat and now I'm facing an enemy I can't even really hurt before dying.
It's still an absolutely great game
Quick poll: If I'm giving you 20 seconds to vote for something in the middle of a game, would you want to: A. Choose between 5 randomly selected items on one page. B. Choose between 10 randomly selected items spread across two pages (with previous/next buttons). C. Choose between 30 items spread across 6 pages (with previous/next buttons). ?
@Mana I kind of wish they just wouldn't bother with the gratuitous sex. It's like the games just jump around, yelling "HA HA! LOOK AT US! WE ARE SO MATURE! LOOK AT ALL THE BOOBIES!" Just a little bit of subtlety would go a long way.
@Powerlord The last option, but only with a Next button. No previous. Keeps things moving.
@sjohnston Next button only is not an option, the built-in menu pagination is added by the API.
@sjohnston Anyway, you'd seriously want to do that right in the middle of an FPS game?
I think he was kidding.

Q: Help, how high am I?

soulBitI was watching the trailer for Terraria, and I can see a height/depth indicator on some of the footage - how do you enable this?

Q: How do I destroy the Sathanas' beam turrets?

ManaIn a mission of Freespace 2, I'm asked to destroy all four of the Sathanas' beam turrets before it engages its subspace drives to go attack the Colossus. This is very difficult. Even when I constantly fire both guns at the tips of the turrets and use up all of both my Helios and other missiles, I...

@Mana I was wondering if that was the case or not (since that's what the guy in the thread I linked to wants)
@sjohnston Your complaint about gratuitous sex reads better when I imagine it out loud in an old man complaining voice.
@Lazers How much pot have you had? (sorry, bad joke)
@Lazers @Mana: These don't look like questions...
@Powerlord :( IT'S INSTALLING OKAY
and Freespace 2 is really good
@Mana Installing it takes ages from DVD
20:34
Yay, more time to play Freespace 2.
And that nobody gets the stupid idea to start the Witcher 2 on hard. (Seriously, don't do that, it's hard enough on normal).
@Mana It arrived?
@Mana I wouldn't know since you haven't proposed a tag wiki for it for me to know what it is. What do you expect me to do, Google? :O
This boss fight is worse than the Beast in the first game (although later).
@Mana has detected my textual sarcasm
20:42
I really had to restrain myself from using more profanity in that question.

Q: The Witcher 2 - Killing Letho

FabianThe following is somewhat of a spoiler, to avoid it being shown in the question excerpt, I'm filling the space with useless boilerplate. I'm near the end of the first chapter and I'm now facing Letho, the kingslayer and witcher. And I'm getting my ass kicked thoroughly and completely. I haven't ...

Maaaaaaaaaana
@Graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace
Wait, that doesn't work. What's up @Grace?
Did it arrive?
20:43
Yup!
Three days earlier than expected, just finished installing.
4 days earlier than I expected.
So I'm getting all of my Freespace 2 questions out of the way in anticipation of not really playing much else.
Theres so many "The Witcher 2" questions, is it the new Minecraft? I've never heard of it
and FS2 is amazing. I used to mod for it when it was "cool"
That leaves just @MatthewRead as the only sap who hasn't gotten it. And possibly @tzenes. Though it would wholly ironic if tzenes was the last person to receive it.
@Resorath It's a new game that came out two days ago.

Q: Which, if any, of the major console game developers also develop for Android?

Joshua CarmodyThe Android market has a lot of apps now, and for the most part almost anything that could only be done on the iPhone a couple of years ago is now possible on Android. The app stores have become quite competitive and comparable. However, one thing that appears to be missing from the Android Mark...

20:45
@Resorath It's the same thing with Portal 2; heavily hyped game comes out, massive release of anticipation out on the site.
Ah, weird I've never heard of it
If L.A. Noire was for PC I think it would be the same sort of deal.
but it wasn't. tsk.
@Fabian I started on normal and switched to easy to make it through the tutorial. But I kind of suck at the action part of action rpg.
@grace im all for free games
20:46
And because we got the game for free, we're spamming the site with questions, as it is expected of us ;-)
Well, when the next one rolls around, feel free to toss your name in the bucket. We're not sure what's coming up next, though.
@GraceNote I should work on getting more reputation on Gaming then.
its neat but I wouldn't have time for it unfortunately. I'm trying to cut down on gaming gasp
you know, sunny days and all that
But I think this game is perfect for the first try. It's a really great game with a completely useless tutorial, lots of poorly explained game mechanics and a very steep learning curve.
yeah man, me too. unfortunately it has been cloudy around here the past week.
20:48
It seems like it was indeed the perfect game. I'm very, very pleased with the turnout.
@Fabian Ha, that does make it work pretty well.
@mana are you playing hard light's FS2 open? or the retail one? FS2 open has fantasticly upgraded graphics
*fantastically is now a word
Retail one, I would be using FS2 open but my internet connection sucks right now
so I can't download the stuff involved
Well retail was still good, if you get a chance, grab the high res pack and the updated engine.
but ya that high res pack is a bitch in size
@sjohnston @Fabian where's the activation code located? :O
20:50
@GraceNote Was there ever an actual number put forward for how much rep or other community participation score was required to get in on the GSECPG? Or is it kind of a decide on an individual basis thing?
@Mana Back of the manual
@Mana Backside of the manual
Use caps and dashes
I have confirmed that lowercase in one long string doesn't work very well
And try out zero and the letter O, if it doesn't work
@Resorath Alright, shall do. By the way, was there a campaign made to continue the FS2 plot? The ending kind of left a lot open about the Shivans and the fate of pretty much everything.
Unfortunately volition is a pretty dead company and nothing has been released after. There are a ton of fan made campaigns though. hard-light.net
20:53
@sjohnston There is no hard number of sorts.
I feel the compulsion to add more profanity to my last question, but I've decided to just listen to the soundtrack for a while instead of dying a lot.
oh no, 50 MB download to finish installing. This is going to take a while :x
You're... pretty much at my whim, honestly speaking. I could tell you "It's based on my understanding of your general participation level, how often you ask questions, the general quality of your questions, and whether or not I've been observing your participation habits and thus know your likelihood of asking questions".
Which it is, but you can all collapse that into a monotone "It's at my whim and discretion, ohoho..." to keep it simple.
@GraceNote If the whole scheme works we should set up some rules at some point. While the primary purpose is to get great questions & answers, I think one part should be a reward for prior contributions to the site. So that we can motivate some people even more to participate in the site.
But, for example, there are about 6 people that I know that don't have particularly high reputation, but they do tend to ask a fair number of questions and otherwise participate.
So that's why I'm not exactly fond of setting a strict "You must be THIS tall to ride" reputation barrier and instead will go more on the basis of how much they actually participate, and the quality therein.
@Fabian We will probably institute some bare minimum of both account age and some "score" factor based on reputation and number of contributions. But I'd like that to serve more as a trash filter than a selector, if only because any kind of selector would have to be terribly strong.
20:57
@GraceNote Yeah, I could see how it would be a little tricky. On one hand, people may want to know what line they have to cross to qualify, which is hard if there isn't a specific number you can point them to. On the other hand, it would suck if some active people were excluded simply because they lack the rep.
@GraceNote Oh god. Meta-rep.
@GraceNote I'm not advocating a high barrier, but I think the chance to get a free game is a nice motivator. If we set a reasonably achievable barrier it might get some more people to participate.
@sjohnston I'm pretty sure a whole lot of the people who were selected for this most recent session have, to be honest, mediocre Meta rep. Also, one of your highest Meta rep users doesn't post all that many questions.
game questions are pretty hard to post if your just naturally awsome
Pfft, meta-rep is so passé. I have tons of post-rep.
@Resorath Nope, you just have to post your questions before you solve them yourself ;-)
21:01
pff, then its not a game. so many times i considered visiting gamefaqs on how to beat portal2. im glad I didn't. I guess the games I just play have their own community, which is kinda a limiting factor for this kind of site
It's true. There are massive communities for games such as Starcraft, Smash Bros., Minecraft, and Civilization, and we only have a very small fraction of each of them here.
Oh, @Mana, that reminds me... ♪
:(?
Do you know if any of your Smash communities happens to have a complete mapping of Sticker bonuses to which attacks each character uses that benefit from them?
I haven't checked on this stuff for about a year, but when I last checked, no one bothered to have anything remotely comprehensive, and every guide actually conflicted with each other, anyway.
Jeepers, a lot of the ones I know didn't care about the single player stuff at all, but I can try to dig that up, I'm pretty sure there are people enthusiastic about that
21:05
I considered posting a Q&A on our site about it, but I didn't want to go "Everywhere else is all contradictory and incomplete!" without some confirmation that, indeed, they remain contradictory and incomplete.
If it's anywhere it would be on Smashboards; I'm looking there now
or maybe not, their 1-player Brawl subforum is dead
Well, there you go. We'll work ourselves up to be the top resource on it because we're the only people that bothered to figure it all out. Provided, of course, someone has the ability to do that research.
My Wii got stolen back at res, so unfortunately I do not.
@GraceNote Sadly, yes.
Ouchu. It was harsh when my N64 got stolen. Losing a Wii is quite a tad more stinging... you have my condolences.
@Matthew I can't see replies in this view, so I don't even remember what I said, so is that a "Sadly, yes, I haven't gotten it yet", or "Sadly, yes, and I'm getting my face punched in by the difficulty"?
21:10
It is what it is. I didn't feel the loss at all, oddly enough :x
@GraceNote The former.
I'm sure I have a huge amount of stickers in smash, what do we need to know?
TEAMWORK, GO!
Hrm. Curious. By the way, don't know if you two got the update or not, but the packages were ordered through Amazon.ca, they imposed the extended shipping time.
(by teamwork I mean Rapida doing all the work)
21:12
@Rapida A comprehensive mapping of all of each character's attacks and which sticker bonuses affect each one. That's the ideal goal.
@Mana The best kind of teamwork
> Your license is unlimited. You can activate this serial number on as many PCs and as often as you like.
@Mana haha, I've seen to much of that teamwork
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww yeah
Well, Ima vanish properly, now. Later all, and @Matt, hopefully it'll still arrive a lot sooner than projected!
21:14
Peace, thanks for the game
@Mana You just got your copy?
@GraceNote Hopefully! Bye
proceeds to not ask/answer anything
@StrixVaria Yup!
Prepare for some frustration.
The tutorial is pretty much non-existant.
You learn combat in trial by fire.
But once you get it.
Wow is the combat in that game amazing.
And that is why I'm going to love this game. I love difficult games.
21:16
If you want a real challenge, play on Insane difficulty :P
Especially games without tutorials. It's why beating La Mulana was so satisfying.
No, I'm not insane. I'll do Normal for my first playthrough and Insane for the second.
@StrixVaria That would be really insane, I can't imagine getting through the game without dying.
@Fabian I can't imagine getting through two consecutive battles without dying.
well I'm going to run "Start the Witcher 2"
let's see how long it takes for me to come up with a non-duped question
wait, actually
I can't wait to see an Insane speed run of the Witcher 2
21:18
I just got an idea
Wait until you're at the point were I'm now, everything before that will look trivial
I'm going to start up a chatroom with a feed of Witcher 2-tagged questions
I just got to Flotsam (no spoilers Mana don't worry) and spent about 20 minutes looking for the brothel, then had to go to work.
that way I can have it at the side while I play the game
9 straight hours of not playing is killing me right now
21:19
I'm not worried about spoilers, yo
spoiler: the guy is a witch
witcher*
NOOOOOOOOOOO
So, how is the Witcher-2 question spam coming along for y'all?
(i have no idea what the game is about, it reminds me of an awsome penny-arcade comic though
)
21:20
I've been asking the most basic questions about The Witcher 2 and Fabian has been asking all the actual meaty questions...
apparently there actually was a comic about the first witcher
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/10/25/
What's a tag that means "backstory of a particular game's setting"?
