I wish Nintendo had committed harder to TotK as a sequel to BotW. There's just way too much hedging on making sure people who didn't play BotW don't feel like they missed anything.
Either that or they should've made a cleaner split with BotW somehow.
Sure, Majora's Mask (since that's the common comparison) just kinda hinted that it was a sequel to OoT, but it also took place in a completely different place (Termina instead of Hyrule) with new characters.
@Fredy31 I feel like if you're making a sequel, the players need to understand that maybe they should play the previous game to understand some story beats. This is exactly why WoW's story is so garbage compared to FFXIV.
@Yuuki depends: if that sequel is Chrono Cross it is better if you didn't play the prequel since it goes out of its way to ruin everything the prequel was.
WoW's story problem is that 1) not everyone raids and 2) not everyone plays all the xpacs. So every story for every expansion needs to handle the fact that not everyone will have seen character development that happened in one xpac or in one particular raid arc. So characters essentially can't change.
Besides, I think it's charitable to assume that people who play sequels first do go into those games with the understanding that anything they don't get is probably related to something from the first game.
And are okay with that
I didn't play the first Red Dead Redemption and I didn't complain about 2 shifting the story to John at the end.
@SPArcheon My review would be game is pretty solid, yes it has a heavy dip into gapachon and other 'pay to spin the wheel' mechanics but I went through the whole story and pretty much all of the content no problem as a F2P
Its really just end-END game content that you get fucked if you are F2P; and its nothing mandatory
@Fredy31 "end" game. You could have wrote "Abyss level 12" because of horrible overscaling of mobs
and I don't even get if that is intended by design or a result of the ascension mechanics.
The game is made so that you have an actual hardcoded debuf in hitting mob of a level above your.
That is to make the "world level" thing work: as soon as your WL increases the mobs suddenly jump in level and for a while you are severely underpowered.
Problem is that the mobs from abyss 12 are scaled to a world level that the player can't reach yet since their level is locked to 90 and the mobs are lev 100
@SPArcheon yeah i remember i think the last jump before I was max WL, and it went quickly from 'i tear through everything' to 'the most basic of grunts is now a damage sponge'
