Anyone here use VScode with git?

@SaintWacko Yep.
Although I typically use Git bash, I sometimes use VS Code's terminal.

@Yuuki I'm having an issue where I open up a git folder and it's immediately showing a handful of files as changed even though I haven't touched anything
Ever seen anything like that?
The diff doesn't show anything changed
And discarding changes doesn't remove them from the list

Hmm... can't say I have.
I remember something like adding and deleting characters would reflect no change in the diff but VS Code would indicate modifications.

Oh wait, I have an idea

Are they untracked files?

9:04 PM
But I can't remember how long ago that was and if they fixed it.

Not sure how I missed this yesterday
Looking forward to it

I haven't seen the third one, I barely remember the 2nd. Also, is that a spork?

@SaintWacko It's probably file properties, like metadata

No, they're tracked files
I had thought maybe it was git doing the line end thing
Converting it to windows line endings when I checked it out
But I reran the installer and changed that setting and it didn't fix anything
git status doesn't show anything...
wtf
old mode 100644
new mode 100755
That's what git diff says
That just looks like file access modes...

@Ash No, it's a toy.
(But yes, it's a spork)

9:13 PM
Ah-ha!
There we go
> git config core.filemode false
Had to do that to prevent git from seeing filemode changes

user15026
@Yuuki ah, is it like "child made non-toy into toy, toy that is not a toy now has to deal with change in circumstances"

@Ash Kinda but it honestly feels like a side plot with this new trailer.

user15026
(although now I am like "would a spork even be able to have those feelings, as doesn't teh intent of a child loving the thing make teh toys real? would it have knowledge of it's non-toy beginnings?"

user15026
(maybe reading all these Baha'i texts on theological stuff is making me think too many big thinks, here :P)

Yeah, this has some interesting implications for the already thorny issue of consciousness in the Toy Story universe.
Are all "inanimate" objects sapient? Are only toys sapient? Does the act of playing with an "inanimate" object grant it sapience? Does the child have to make something out of inanimate objects for it to gain sapience?

I have so many questions.

At what point in the toy manufacturing process does a toy gain sapience?
We know from Toy Story 2 that for purpose-designed manufactured toys, they don't need to interact with a child to become sapient.

@Yuuki Do all the pieces start sentient and have to learn to work as a cohesive whole?

Maybe it's sapient if it as a cohesive object is perceived as a "toy" by someone

Is there some kind of observer effect where the object needs to be perceived as a toy by someone for it gain sapience? What about a toy that's assembled solely by machine and never seen by any human being?
Is it an inanimate object or is it sapient?

user15026
@Ronan That's a horrifying concept

9:26 PM
Toys assembled by machines are still designed by humans, and the design could matter more than the physical construction

Clearly the toys are possessed by ghosts, so the point in the manufacturing process where they put the ghost in.

@murgatroid99 Children play with boxes and pots and pans as toys in a temporary state, do they gain consciousness and lose it when tehy go back to a utensil state?

Maybe this only applies to toys that in some way resemble life

@murgatroid99 Check the revision history -- I basically re-edited what he added in to a better format

user15026
Like the spork having a face and stuff?

9:29 PM
Also, what if a situation occurs like in that one commercial where a child finds mommy's "special" toy?

I find it odd you didn't even bother checking the revision history before trying to call me out

@Ash right, that's how I'm looking at it

or is that too creepy to say?

@yuritsuki There's the initial post and then your edit. The OP never edited

@murgatroid99 IIRC, there's a toy in Toy Story 3 that doesn't have a face or eyes or stuff.
Or Toy Story 1.

9:30 PM
Now you're just playing with semantics, but whatever

If the spork gains sentience, would mommy's toy also gain sentience if a child finds it?

Don't have time to deal with trolls like you anymore

@yuritsuki That's not an edit. That's the original post

What about all Sid's toys?

9:34 PM
actually, forget what I asked. The implications of sentient adult toys are not really something you want to think about in this context
and not really suitable for this room either

user15026
@Ronan in their destroyed/altered state, or before that? Do they know they've been altered?
