5:00 PM
it's just the answer to 'how many flights of stairs must I climb'

@fredley negative indexing is better

@fredley I mean I guess our building is kind of dumb because it THREE indexes (with two basement levels labeled 1 and 2)

Second floor == first ceiling

American: "I have climbed one set of stairs, therefore I am on the second fl... LOLNO I TOOK THE LIFT ELEVATOR"

-1
Q: Can I flip a WorldEdit selection horizontally?

CrafterIs it possible to somehow horizontally rotate a build in world edit??

5:01 PM
@Dragonrage British floors: -2, -1, G, 1, 2...
@Unionhawk rekt
Americans also don't build 13th floors

And if you're called trump you just skip a dozen or so floors to make your numbers seem higher

yes

@fredley only in one school

That's actually a true thing

Quite commonly, afaik
Also no 13th row on planes

5:02 PM
his tower's residential starts at like, 40 for some reason even though there are only like 20 floors of commercial below it

For a bunch of christo-nationalists they're pretty superstitious
@Unionhawk Of course it does

@Unionhawk I mean, I did say it for a reason

@fredley According to Wikipedia, the superstition might be related to the last supper story, so it is related

@KevinvanderVelden you couldve said it to be wrong like @uni

I am not @Uni, he's already taken responsibility for all my wrongs

5:06 PM
Is @Wipqozn to blame for @Uni always being wrong?

@Dragonrage probably

WTF, there's another pre-announcement of a critical security bug in Drupal core. This is getting seriously annoying

@MadScientist So how many is that so far?

this is the third of this kind that I've seen. The second was only weeks ago
the first one, Drupalgeddon was exploited automatically a few hours after the announcement

@MadScientist the Drupal team really needs to get their shit together,. Actually I suppose this is them doing that.
@MadScientist yeah I fixed that the week I left my last job

Ave
5:16 PM
better than being spammed by rhel updates

I suspect that the last big one prompted a harder look at the affected part, and they found something else during that
I am responsible for one small Drupal 8 site, and I still help out with a Drupal 6 site, though I'm not officially responsible there anymore.

@MadScientist Drupal 6 is what the site I fixed was
Does the announcement apply to d6 too?

I just blindly applied the community patch there and hoped for the best.
@Wipqozn No, but that doesn't mean anything because D6 doesn't usually get official announcements anymore

@MadScientist they did it for the last one due to how bad it was
Got a link? I'll pad it along to my old team so they're aware of it

@Wipqozn the pre-announcement there didn't mention D6, only the actual announcement did

5:25 PM
@Maximillian Nearly, train station is across the street from the office.

@Unionhawk I know this was a while ago, but with celsius, unless you live in a place that never gets cold, you know that anything below 0C = ice on the roads, things freeze, everything changes

Well, ice on roads is more complicated since that's an air temp/ground temp/is bridge question too

but any negative degrees means it's a safe bet there's ice somewhere outside
positive numbers = no ice, negative numbers = ice
negative numbers also mean you are unlikely to have rain (yay), but you are more likely to have snow (boo)

@Chippies I wouldn't exactly call this something unique to Celsius. That works just as well with 32F instead of 0C
I mean, if you say "if you go over the speed limit, you run risk of getting fined", then it doesn't matter if the limit is 120 km/h or 80 mph (or whatever the limit in the US is)
same with ice on the roads and temperatures: once the temperature drops below a certain level, ice can form, regardless of how you measure the temperature or what that level is in a particular scale

5:44 PM
The point is that 0-100 is a lot easier to remember than 32-212

Depends on which one you grew up with
0 is just a number. 32 is just a number

boiling point of water is just as arbitrary
I literally do not care what temperature water boils at
it boils on the stove

Yeah but you might as well have something at the round numbers

for normal day it doesn't matter, but scientifically, boiling water is a useful point to have because it's predictable: if water is boiling, you know it's 100C

Uni measures his boiling on a scale of No to Yes.

5:47 PM
exactly

@Nzall At what elevation/atmostpheric pressure?

@KevinvanderVelden now a few chapters into the last book, still enjoying it

I think that's a bold statement to make that it's always exactly at 100.

at sea level I mean
There is math to work it out into different circumstances

For spherical based Unionhawks in a vaccum.

5:48 PM
Although I must say I am Very Unimpressed with [redacted]'s secret final plan

That's not a terribly useful reference point if you're not at sea level though.

@Nzall Also at 1 atmosferic pressure.

Also pure water

sea level is approx 1 atm
close enough to anyway

@StrixVaria It is very specific though, farhenheit is based on body temperature? and that's different for everyone...

5:49 PM
Weather depending a but but ehhhhh

but my bigger point is that you can then start using that temperature in other measurements. For example, calories are just how much energy you need to raise the temperature of X amount of water by Y degrees
which means you can then use that to determine caloric volume of various products

@Arperum Not anymore, now it's specifically defined as some actual concrete temperature.

(i.e. some number of K)

it's not completely accurate, but it's a reasonable way to calculate the difference in energy in various sources

1,000K, 1kK send tweet

5:51 PM
Is 100C at 1atmosphere the EXACT point at which water boils by definition or is it off by a small amount because tools of the time of its invention weren't precise?

is this still going on

idk

It's also defined from some measure of boiling seawater? Originally I think

@StrixVaria I mean yes because that's how it is defined

@Unionhawk Which is coincidentally 1 furlong fahrenheit

5:52 PM
afaik

@Unionhawk That's what I was asking, is that the definition or was that the basis by which we measured to come to some temperature.

That was the older measurement. Also, at the time of creation, it was inverse: 0 was boiling, 100 was freezing. it got reversed in the 18th century

I'm pretty sure freezing and boiling of pure water at standard pressure is definition

> He proposed that the zero point of his temperature scale, being the boiling point, would be calibrated at the mean barometric pressure at mean sea level.
@StrixVaria That was the definition point
Because 100 is easy to divide into parts

@quartata this will be a thing until America converts

5:55 PM
Can someone ping me?

@SaintWacko ok

@SaintWacko No

@SaintWacko testing an alternate ping method

@SaintWacko play dcss

Huh, alright

5:56 PM
@sai

I was curious how Firefox showed when I have a ping
It does not

Back to Chrome!

Although now I'm suddenly uncertain if Chrome did either

The name of the tab changes to (X) The Bridge if you have pings.

there's a link that says "enable desktop notification" below stars ->

5:57 PM
@Unionhawk What about my wrong?

@Unionhawk WHAT

@Unionhawk Ooh! Desktop notifications activated!
How long has that been there?

idk
a while

At least 7 years

hilariously though: there is also a scaled called réaumur, which goes from 0 to 80, but then uses 0 as the freezing point of water and 80 as the boiling point of alcohol. Unfortunately, that was lost in translation, so the creators of the thermometers thought that the 80 was the boiling point of water, not alcohol
The Réaumur scale French: [ʁe.o.myːʁ] (°Ré, °Re, °r), also known as the "octogesimal division", is a temperature scale for which the freezing and boiling points of water are defined as 0 and 80 degrees respectively. The scale is named for René Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur, who first proposed a similar scale in 1730. == Change in scale == Réaumur’s thermometer contained diluted alcohol (ethanol) and was constructed on the principle of using 0° for the freezing temperature of water, and graduating the tube into degrees, each of which was one-thousandth of the volume contained by the bulb and tube...

5:59 PM
there's also an abomination Kelvin Except Fahrenheit scale too which why stop

@Unionhawk Is that the r one?

yeah

@Unionhawk Rankine?

ye

@Nzall Yes

6:00 PM
And then to complete it:
The Rømer scale (Danish pronunciation: [ˈʁœːˀmɐ]; also Roemer) is a temperature scale named after the Danish astronomer Ole Christensen Rømer, who proposed it in 1701. It is based on the freezing point of pure water being 7.5 degrees and the boiling point of water as 60 degrees. == Degree measurements == In this scale, the zero was initially set using freezing brine. The boiling point of water was defined as 60 degrees. Rømer then saw that the freezing point of pure water was roughly one eighth of the way (about 7.5 degrees) between these two points, so he redefined the lower fixed point to be...

What

this is all incredibly silly
and you won't change my mind
and I don't care if I change yours

We'll call it "Fahrenheit but worse"

We're not pirates though

Any way, I'm gonna start playing CoD IW
Spend an hour downloading it

Pirate is a protected term, I'm a freelance sea bandit

Freelance sea contrctor.

I believe that it's wrong for anyone to own a boat, and to that end I attempt to liberate all boats I see
I of course have to use a boat of my own to do this, but the ends justify the means, right?

Liboatarian. Is that anything?

6:04 PM
My lawyers will be in contact shortly for you forcing me to read that word with my eyes

Haha

@Unionhawk nobody forced you to read it with your eyes, it could have been your fingers

@KevinvanderVelden Could've even been your ears

That's not reading then though

If you listen to an audio book have you effectively read the book?

6:07 PM
Hmmm

@Unionhawk By accessing his content you agreed to the terms of service, I am sorry

Anyone else here using Firefox?

Q: I want more powerful hardmode weapons and tools in Terraria. How do I get them easily?

DsstructoI just defeated the wall of flesh recently, and am adjusting to hard-mode, but I can't help but worry about the mechanical bosses. I've already destroyed enough demon altars to get titanium. I need quick tools and weapons to defend against them. I need help!

6:09 PM
Someone write this tweet for me

I used to use it, stopped using it after the perf issues after 59.

@Arperum Do the reply/star/flag buttons on the right side of the message respect the zoom level for you?

@SaintWacko Yup.

Oh, that was the problem
I had set it to zoom text only
And it doesn't consider those buttons to be text

can it be hometime

6:21 PM
Nevermind I got it
What idiot called anti-government sailors pirates and not Liboatarians?

I got a friend request on steam from "Somebody" from Brisbane. Is that a request originating from here? @Memor-X?

@Arperum they're memor-x on steam I believe
yup
they are

I'll wait until I get confirmation from @Memor-X self. And if it is, then I'll accept.

@Arperum that's @ASCII-only
7 hours ago, by ASCII-only
@Chippies yeah that's me

@Chippies Aha. Yea, you are the only shared friend.
TIL we have another aussie here.

@Arperum yeah, I didn't recognize any of his friends when I got that request, but he does share the same avatar with @ASCII-only

There's a second one now iirc

That's a good number of bots

Chase SandmannThe game I'm specifically asking about is Sea of Thieves. DanmakuGrazerI'm talking about tags like tf2-spy, diablo-3-wizard, and starcraft-zerg. I believe only team-fortress-2, diablo-3, and starcraft-2 use subtags like these. Q: How to use console commands and see console output on Minecraft Thermos Server for 1.7.10?

Baskakov_DmitriyI am using Minecraft 1.7.10 and am running a server using Thermos, a modification that allows me to use both Bukkit plugins and Forge Mods at the same time.
