7:00 PM
eugh this is going to be ugly

@Unionhawk Brute force finished in 100ms.

Well I'm happy I managed to deploy a lot of stuff already today
Because this obviously killed my productivity for the rest of it
I blame @InvaderSkoodge and @fredley in equal amounts

@Wipqozn Join our 'leaderboard'

@fredley link?

@BunsGlazing Programming languages all follow the same concepts. It's much like someone who is good at FPS games picking up a brand new FPS game and immediately being good at it.

So far every single error in my code has been me using the wrong variable.

Also, I believe I just have to pick up a few things for my wife's stocking and then I am officially done Christmas shopping!

user15026
@JasonBerkan Huzzah!

@Yuuki ..Is that bad?

7:19 PM
@Moacir Molex to SATA connectors catching fire is enough of a thing to where "Molex to SATA, lose all your data" is a phrase that auto-completes for me on Google.

...I may need to check how mine is connected. I actually do not remember.

If I am using one, is the one that came with my ssd

Well I got sidetracked, but that's day 1
when I realized how many times it looped I was all "huh okay, I'll do a lazy break of this list and just make a pos and neg one"
Then I realized nope actually, it's longer than I thought, let's do some hashing magic. And then my lazy mans way finished.
VICTORY!
Although I really want to redo day 1 part 2 to actually use a a smarter method of just looking for a hash collision, and then confirming the result matches
but for now I just need stars

@Wipqozn I used C# HashSet which doesn't allow duplicates and returns false if you fail to add, which was fast

user15026
7:30 PM
Argh, I can't reply to my own messages? How ridiculous.

@Unionhawk yeah I'm using Python for it, and I wasn't familiar with it's hashing library... hence just going for the lazy mans list method at first

@Moacir test?

user15026
(I wanted to add an update reply to my GFM message! We are at 60% of the goal to fix Norbert's teeth and this is making me SO HAPPY. I really do have the best friends.)

user15026
@Moacir Maybe it's because I was trying to do it from the transcript?

If you manually add the code it works

user15026
7:31 PM
@Moacir Oh, like the message number?

@Ash Yep

user15026
Sweet, good to know!

user15026
I figured there had to be some way around it.

@MBraedley I have a late package that was finally supposed to arrive today. It's been out for delivery today, but still hasn't shown. Guess whose shipping it.

Just do :48080599 and the message

7:32 PM
Unless they're doing late deliveries then at this point I can only assume they just didn't bother delivering it, or it got lost on the truck

Q: in west of loathing how to get the cowbane seeds when grady is in dirtwater

CooljooWest Of Loathing, how to get cowbane seeds when Grady is in Dirtwater, I did not collect the seeds at the Tannery,I want to close the portal

@Wipqozn it looks like set does the same in python
Maybe

@Unionhawk Yeah maybe. There's an actual hashlib I can use, I believe.

It's unordered unique so I'm assuming add complains if it gets a nonunique

Basically I googled "hashing python", then before I even clicked the first result the answer popped up
So laziness won the day

7:35 PM
This day 3 is going to be fun
I don't
Hm

Day 3 Part 2 was pretty neat.
Again, the main bug in my code was that I used the wrong variable name when trying to index an array.

I have a list of fully parsed objects but now what
lol

user15026
@Moacir Sweet~

@Unionhawk Check it twice?

user15026
@Wipqozn Canada Post? :(

7:36 PM
My code to parse the objects is so hideous.
entry, data = line.split(' @ ')
entry = entry.split('#')[1].to_i
max_entry = entry if entry > max_entry
corner, size = data.split(': ')
i, j = corner.split(',').map {|v| v.to_i}
width, height = size.split('x').map {|v| v.to_i}

@Ash ding ding ding

@Wipqozn Closed as cannot reproduce

user15026
@Wipqozn oh no :(

Also parsing these files is a completely tedious and uninteresting part of the challenge.

20 mins left till vacation

user15026
7:39 PM
@Moacir Sooo close! :D

@Ash It will be the longest 20 minutes

Ok, I just read through day 4 and I think I'm done doing these challenges.

I already closed all my tabs, organized my workarea

user15026
@Moacir It always is :(

What is this coding challenge thing people are talking about?

7:42 PM
7 hours ago, by fredley
@wip https://adventofcode.com/

I miss Golden Sun.

@InvaderSkoodge Is there a specific language for these?

no
I did 1-1 in excel

@MBraedley No, it's like Project Euler. It gives you a page with a bunch of data which you write a program to parse and calculate, and then you enter an "answer" in the site.

Detroit Become Human wins Role Playing Game of the Year at #TheAGAs @Detroit_PS4
congrat's
to not even an RPG

7:44 PM
If I do Day 4 I'm going to code my own Radix sort so at least something interesting comes of it.

@Unionhawk 🤔

I might try that. I could take the opportunity to use a language I haven't use much. Maybe Pony.

Maybe it's the only game that made it through the Australian censorship boards this year?

@Yuuki How
fwiu this game uh
hm

I was expecting Pony to be a meme language but it's actually not.

7:47 PM
I genuinely want to learn it because it looks really good for concurrent/asynchronous programming

@InvaderSkoodge I did too considering there is a related meme language
well "related" as in "of a similar name"
if that one can do file processing and math it might be able to do 1-1 tbf
I'm tempted to try now lol
to get out of the rut that is private static void PartOne(){stopwatch.start; //uhh stopwatch.stop;}

8:13 PM
TIL "sex kick" is an actual term in the Smash community.
I spent like five minutes trying to make sure this wasn't wiki vandalism.

8:25 PM
Unhandled Exception: OutOfMemoryException.
this is going well
lol well there it is
Hmm
I think I can still brute force this

Ave
hhhhhh
I'm losing my mind
ejabberd breaks when I set ejabberd user as not superuser

8:42 PM
I am no longer sure if I can brute force this or not
stackoverflow dot com: list but fast
hmm

@Unionhawk which puzzle? Some cannot be brute forced and need to be mathed

3-1
I think this is n log n, and I think that's 25 million for my current value of n
I think it's about to out of memory
yep there it goes
welcome back literally 53% of my memory

I just built a wxh array of ints and incremented for each square of fabric, overlaps are all squares n>1

That's probably the way, the "or more" part is really killing my method here

@Unionhawk what the fuck

8:52 PM
@quartata idk

Idk how you're failing in a memory way with this

look, I thought I was going to be smart with rectangle objects and stuff
but as it turns out there are a lot of rectangles at play here
1217669 is a number I see, for example
that is not a small number
that is a big number

You're don't need to store the rectangles in memory, just the piece of fabric

Well and also I apparently can't do that because there are a lot
and it's also dumb
to do
as well

9:23 PM
.

got it
take that
memory
god
dammit
I knew I shouldn't have deleted all that other code

I have eaten
the rectangles
that were in
the memory

and which
you were probably
saving
for your program

Forgive me
they were delicious
so oblong
and so heavy
3

actually that other code wouldn't have worked we're good

@fredley I used a dictionary/hash rather than a matrix so it's sparsely populated.

I honestly can't wait to see uni try day 15

9:28 PM
Each had a list of entries who claimed that square. Then I went over the whole map at the end and disqualified any claim that conflicted with another, leaving only one with no overlap.

I iterated over the rectangle locations again and accepted the first with no n>1

@fredley ...
what the hell

whee
discord is apparently giving away nitro gifts to people
begonecord is back baybee

10:38 PM
@Ash Given that EA doesn't offer to give a discount to PC Battlefield owners, I've elected to instead give the 30 EUR to Norbert. First time I've donated on GoFundMe.

@fredley cc @ash on plum meme

user15026
10:53 PM
@Nzall Aww, wow, I am super, super touched.

user15026
That's awesome of you.

user15026
@fredley Good use of plum meme.

Q: How do you obtain Incandescent weapons from Arch-tempered Kulve Taroth?

WriggleniteWith the release of Arch-tempered Kulve Taroth, a new type of appraisal item has been added to the possible Siege rewards. These items, called Incandescent weapons, have a very high chance to be appraised into regular Rare 8 Kulve Taroth weapons, as well as new, more powerful Rare 8 weapons added...

Ave
so I saw this on yubico site
and I like the idea.

11:35 PM
Can you just... detach it? I guess it's hard to lose like that

@Lazers2.0 This is...interesting. It feels sorta like piracy, maybe?

Ave
@Wrigglenite I can detach it

Our build server just shut itself down 🤔

Ave
rip
do you give sudo to it?
help my jenkins user has sudo
I wish I was joking

No, I think it’s out of room or something.
Just decided to turn off in protest

Q: Command block not telling the right player - Minecraft

DragonSlayr15001I am making an adventure map in 1.13.2, where a player would step out of spawn and then a tellraw would trigger, a sort of welcome message. My original problem was the command to use, but a quick Google search took care of that. However, now I have my full command, in a single command block set ...
