18:00
Well, I love you all.
We love you too.
@Ash you can repay us by having an awesome ceremony tomorrow
user15026
I can do that
If @GodEmperorDune and @Avery decline cupcakes does that mean more for me and @Wipqozn?
:D
18:02
Maybe.
@Unionhawk nah my forfeited cupcakes will not go to either of you
In wildlife-related news, if I don't see the momma birb when I get home from work, I'll probably be taking the babies to the local wildlife rehabilitation center post-haste.
@Yuuki for bird mom
I am slightly worried about transportation, namely concerned about accidents when removing them from the nest.
I'd recommend contacting the local wildlife rehabilitation center beforehand to ask for any tips etc on that
18:05
urgh, I feel horrible for raining on the parade but wtfbbq
@TimStone So if you've never had one year of continuous health coverage, that's a pre-existing condition?
This appears to be saying that an insurer should intentionally refuse coverage for six months if someone lapses for more than two months
@Yuuki It's even worse than a pre-existing condition! This is the law telling the insurance companies to deny you for no discernable purpose
Yea, "shall do this thing" not "may do this thing"
fuck's sake
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
YOU DIDN'T HAVE INSURANCE FOR 2 MONTHS?
Why don't Republicans make any sense?
HOW IRRESPONSIBLE OF YOU
18:10
That's about as messed up as a contracting agency telling me, "Yes, we offer insurance." Their insurance did not qualify as coverage under the AHCA however and they did not have to disclose that to answer my question. "In six months though, you can choose our qualifying plan."
MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT BEFORE BEING A CONTRACTOR
Dammit @TimStone
WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP PUSHING THE "GOVERNMENT IS A HOUSEHOLD" CONCEPT EVEN THOUGH IT'S STUPID AS F--K.
Being a contractor was some of my darkest days. You really feel like you should have an asset tag on the back of your hand.
18:11
@Yuuki I blame @TimStone
Officially
(I know why, it's a rhetorical question)
But still.
@MadMAxJr Just, like, an Agent 47 barcode or something
"Contractor 47, you are due for refurb."
Then they just ka-thunk you in the head with the iron bar gun like a cow and bring the next developer in.
Hmm. That might be a little too dark for this channel. Sorry.
I was a disposable contractor in six month bursts for a while. It's a personal hell being informed 'You're cheap disposable labor, and if I don't see results, we just term your contract early. Get to work.'
The insurance available while contracting wouldn't cover half of what I need either.
18:24
@MadMAxJr was this the same job that caused you to go to the ER multiple times? :o
@Ash It was my idea but a bunch of people (especially @Avery and @Frank) helped organise it.
I'm was the only one who was crazy enough to use irc (no offense toxicfrog)
@Avery irc?
Internet Relay Chat.
I can't bother with explaining so have a random tv show explain it with drug boats
18:29
The precursor to browser-based chatrooms like this one.
(I am connecting from IRC right now!)
@BlueBarren This is after I was laid off from the service desk that sent me to the ER for panic attacks 3 times.
The Old Ones of the internet don't leave IRC, ever. They merely build bridge connectors to whatever newfangled tool you claim is good for chat.
New on Github: IRC <---> Singular Unified Conciousness 0.7b bridge connector
@ToxicFrog uh Internet Relay Chat?
@Avery hey at least the picture looks like it was made by someone who HAS ever seen an Irssi window
So like MSN then?
I remember mirc from early 2000s
18:33
@BlueBarren pls
@BlueBarren sets fire to BlueBarren
I mean is it not...?
@BlueBarren it predates MSN by a decade
And is an open protocol
Only a decade?
Irc is much more simple
18:33
but it's the same concept?
or?
And is oriented towards group rooms like this one rather than 1-on-1 chats, although you can use it for both
@Avery were you even born in the early 2000?
It's...a similar concept? MSN and other IM systems are geared towards 1:1 chats and persistent chatrooms, if supported at all, are an afterthought
@KevinvanderVelden MSN Messenger was released in 1999, surprisingly enough
@Avery msn is way more limited in features (well, until the bloating that happens when you don't get rid of dead things)
18:34
IRC is designed around the idea of persistent chatrooms with 1:1 chats supported as well but not the main focus.
I used msn.
@TimStone yeahm 1988 vs 1999
Huh
Man, the animated emoticons.
I think what I'm confused by is IRC it's own thing or a category of thing?
@BlueBarren i was born in 2000
It's it's own thing
It's a protocol
18:35
hmm
@BlueBarren it's its own thing.
@Avery man remembering your age must be super easy
A standard
office is apparently blocking the domain that holds ynab styles and scripts
@BlueBarren yuup
18:36
@BlueBarren Or rather, it's a specific protocol; there's lots of clients and servers implementing that protocol, and they can all talk to each other.
@ToxicFrog now when you say protocol I just think of HTTP
@BlueBarren yeah, IRC is at the same layer.
It's a protocol for two computers to exchange chat messages.
Rather than using a web browser to talk to an HTTP daemon which then replies with web pages, you use an IRC client to talk to an IRC daemon which sends your messages to other users and replies to you with their messages.
but when you use IRC are you using a specific app for that or what?
Yeah, but there's lots of different apps that all speak IRC.
Like, if you're browsing the web you can use Chrome, or Firefox, or Opera, or IE, or w3m, or lynx
If you're chatting on IRC you can use HexChat, or mIRC, or irccloud, or weechat, or irrsi
18:38
so why use it over something like discord or se chat?
@ToxicFrog (where one computer is a server communicating with either other servers or other computers)
@BlueBarren actually we didn't bother setting up a discord bridge
@BlueBarren You'll have to take into account that IRC is older than any of the alternatives you can think of
Back in the days of old, I recall ICQ.....
@BlueBarren there's a bunch of reasons. It's an open protocol, so anyone can host an IRC server; it's not tied to a specific company or hosting provider like StackExchange Chat, Slack, Discord etc are
user15026
18:39
@Ronan well I appreciate it more than I can word. It made me swear a bunch which is really a good thing because it means the happy has shorted out my ability to process
@MadMAxJr 7 years younger than IRC
It's much older, so there are well-established communities on IRC that does what they want; no-one's going to uproot a 20-year-old group of friends to move to a new protocol just because it's the new hotness.
@Avery bridge as in a bridge or bridge as in The Bridge? (I may be getting confused now)
user15026
@BlueBarren because @ToxicFrog is going to be that person in that xkcd comic forever and for always
Back to the "open protocol" thing, the fact that it's open means there's lots of client options!
18:40
@MadScientist new is better a lot of the time though so why not use some of the newer stuff?
user15026
@ToxicFrog which is nice when some of them decide not to support things like file exchange >.>
If you need or want a client that works well with a screen-reader, or can run in a terminal, or lets you customize the fonts and colours and logging and stuff, IRC gives you those options.
And stuff like chat.SE or Slack don't.
user15026
@BlueBarren because then you have to shift a whole bunch of people who already have an established line of communication that they all know how to use
user15026
@ToxicFrog also this!
If you want a client without ads or a server that doesn't log you those are options to
18:42
@BlueBarren bridge as in a bridge
@BlueBarren like, from the point of view of one my IRC-centric circles of friends, if we moved to, say, Slack, the advantage is that...we can now inline images, and the emoji are prettier. And there's server-side logging.
@Ash this probably isn't the case with IRC but I had/am still trying to do that with Skype. RIP me
Why do people want to keep using skype?
And the disadvantages is that everyone loses their client setups, their logging, the blind users probably drop out entirely because it's a pain to get slack to work with e-readers, other people drop out because they don't like chatting in the browser...
@ToxicFrog those are all things that IRC clients could do as well =p
Skype is centralized
18:42
(except logging, that'd be a server thing)
Irc is decentalized
@KevinvanderVelden my point is that IRC clients do do all those things; read it again.
@ToxicFrog and the advantages of not moving?
@Avery can be, servers are required
@BlueBarren well, for starters, we don't lose a big chunk of the community due to no longer being able to access chat in a way that's comfortable to them
user15026
18:43
@ToxicFrog he was replying to your stack advantages message
Oh
@Avery so what do you mean by a discord bridge then?
To me that's a reasonable argument all on its own.
@Avery aah
@BlueBarren a means of letting people talking on IRC talk on discord at the same time
i.e. it bridges discord and IRC
@KevinvanderVelden That's what I meant by decentralized. Many servers at different locations, and you can set up your own too.
18:44
@KevinvanderVelden slack-style emoji are trickier because it requires some agreement between clients on which emoji are supported. You're right about image inlining. Server side logging is actually being worked on with the IRC3 protocol.
user15026
@BlueBarren something that goes between discord and IRC, kinda like how @ToxicFrog connects to SE chat through IRC
@ToxicFrog is that seriously an issue nowadays?
@Avery yeah, not strictly speaking decentralized though
@Ash Hehe thanks! You'd be surprised how easy it was to get people to chip in for you.
@BlueBarren is what?
Losing chunks of the community?
user15026
18:45
@BlueBarren uh yes accessibility is still a huge issue lots of places
@ToxicFrog if a server wants ic could just send a log of the last N messages on log-in I suppose
There'd be no time stamp or anything
user15026
@Ronan I am startled and amazed that so many did.
@ToxicFrog not being willing to change to something newer that potentially better or at least not worse
@KevinvanderVelden the bit that IRC3 adds is standardized timestamp handling
18:45
@Ash what's more accessible then something that runs through a web browser?
I believe ZNC and weechat-relay already support that if the client asks for it
user15026
@BlueBarren you don't understand, though - a lot of that stuff doesn't handle accessibility like screen reading etc well
Not sure if any ircds do yet
@BlueBarren for starters, anything that runs in a terminal is going to be way better for screenreaders than the browser
I know a bunch of blind users on IFMUD who pretty much just use IFMUD and IRC because Slack, chat.SE, etc are a total shitshow for them.
So, I read there's a IRC<->Chat.se bridge somewhere? :o
user15026
@BlueBarren you haven't ever had to use anything like screen reading or anything like that for adaptability for disability have you?
18:46
@Ash no I really don't understand xD What do you mean when you talk about the accessibility of screen reading?
@KevinvanderVelden yeah, I wrote it a month or two ago
Is it available somewhere? :o
@BlueBarren screen readers are programs that read the text on the screen out loud so blind people can use the computer
user15026
@BlueBarren blind users etc use screen readers to read things out loud
@KevinvanderVelden github.com/toxicfrog/seirc
18:47
but doesn't Windows have built in stuff to do that?
@ToxicFrog Sweet!
It's kind of janky but works well enough for daily use, although there's a bunch more fixes I have in the pipeline.
there should be a text to speak there, no?
@BlueBarren yeah, that barely works for windows apps and not at all for browsers
It does, but it's a bit and miss
18:47
@BlueBarren yes, but as we keep saying, it doesn't work equally well for all programs
So I guess you have more consistency when it's built for the app in question?
Also, an IRC client can be customized to understand what you want out of a screen reader and present the chat in a way that works best with that
chat.SE can't
@Ronan it only took like what 2 days to contact people
Also people please view the server
Like, if you're using hexchat or something, you can ditch the OS-provided screen reader entirely and use an IRC-specific plugin that will read things out as "BlueBarren says, ..." rather than "less than blue barren greater than tab ..."
18:51
IRC just sounds like something for super hardcore chat users then
user15026
@Avery may I have a link to proper thank people?
(or as "user image at sign blue barren ..." if you hook a screenreader up to chat.SE)
Still waiting on IRC <-> Clay Tablet
and more accessible stuff
@BlueBarren I'm not sure I'd describe it as "
18:52
Back in IRC, we slapped people with a trout when we needed discipline!
"super hardcore". There is a higher barrier to entry, in that you actually need a client and need to know what server(s) you want to chat on rather than just going to a web page and being right there in chat.
(although there are services like irccloud that do something similar to that)
But it's not some arcane ancient technology accessible only to the technopriesthood either.
For my part, consistency is a huge part of it. I'm on two IRC networks, two slacks, one MUD, twitter, hangouts, and chat.SE, and all of those connect to my IRC client -- which means I have one consistent central place where all my chat comes, and it all uses the same fonts and the same colours and the same keyboard shortcuts and the same logging.
I don't have to keep hopping between multiple web pages that all look completely different and have completely different layouts and fonts and user interfaces and text formatting rules and and and
@Ash check steam please
There's a reason I only showed up in the bridge like once a year prior to writing the chat.SE<->IRC bridge.
you're starting to make this seem like a good idea
or more appealing?
probably more appealing
18:56
@BlueBarren I mean, if you're just on chat.SE and you're ok with that, moving to IRC is probably a step back, because you lose things like user images and message edits and reply linking.
Where it gets more appealing is when you're on half a dozen different chat networks and none of them will talk to each other but all of them will, or can be made to, talk to IRC.
@ToxicFrog nothing is more active than chat.SE for me
Back in the IM days you had clients like Trillian that boasted the ability to talk to AIM, MSN, ICQ, etc. all in one client, so you got that consistency, but there's no similar client for, say, chat.SE, Slack, and Discord today.
@ToxicFrog Clearly the solution is to not talk to these other people. We're obviously the most important group in the world and you should focus your attention solely on us.
(...as far as I know
I remember trillian.
Then I jumped to Pidgin.
Now most of the other services are dead or trying to eliminate 3rd party clients.
user15026
19:00
@Avery I saw, thanks! For some reason steam notifs were broken
Same here.
They've been pretty unreliable lately.
user15026
@ToxicFrog I am many the happy that you are here more now because you are good people.
I am neutral people with good intent.
I, on the other hand, am bad in tents.
S'why I don't like camping.
I had to read that twice. Oww.
19:02
same
sighing @Yuuki intensifies
well done @Yuuki
it wasnt @GodEmperorDune @Wipqozn or I that made people groan this time
@Yuuki definitely makes me groan considerably more than @GodEmperorDune, @Wipqozn or you @Dragonrage
take that statement as you will
@Yuuki is secretly a bridge dad
Speaking of tents...
when was the last time @Sterno told a good dad joke?
user15026
19:05
@Yuuki no yuuki bad yuuki no cookie for you
@BlueBarren that just means im more funny
@Yuuki ...Is that a disco ball?
@Dragonrage I fail to see this logic
Bahahaha @yuuki all your cookies are belong to us now
> Now is the winter of our disco tent.
19:06
@BlueBarren Is there any such thing as "a good dad joke"?
@MBraedley I mean, I guess it depends on how you parse "good dad joke".
@MBraedley I fixed it
@Yuuki touche
It could either be good dad joke or good dad joke. And if you're Yoda, I guess it could be good joke, dad.
SIGHING INTENSIFIES @YUUKI
19:10
no
I tried to parse that last one for like 45 seconds and no
@BlueBarren I don't even think ants can read that.
@Yuuki I would try zooming in
Hmm... I wonder why my browser zoom moved to 50% just for that link.
Is \vince the new \expandingbrain?
19:19
@ToxicFrog If he/it is, that's weird because he/it was also the old expanding brain.
Aah, point.
19:32
Arg what why is rebuild failing so catastrophically
@Unionhawk because it broke?
It looks like it's going
It apparently didn't like me having the 2 other solutions running this time
Here is a chart proving that if you're American and 30+ you statistically have no friends to hang out with. theatlas.com/charts/HJFYm4uQ-
@MadMAxJr are you telling me I'm only allowed to spend 9 more years with my friends?
I'm not saying it, MATH is.
19:37
@MadMAxJr Tbf, if you're spending 8 hours a day with friends, that probably means you're unemployed and your friends are also unemployed.
@Yuuki tbf = To be @Frank?
@Yuuki True. But at least then we'd be able to schedule a regular weekly roleplay game.
@BlueBarren Not yet.
@Yuuki but aren't the increments of alone time measured in 8 hours intervals as well?
@BlueBarren Huh? As far as I'm aware, the bar is 8 hours and it's a yes or no question.
The y axis is number of friends/family/coworkers/etc. with whom you spend 8+ hours.
And x axis is how old you are.
19:40
@Yuuki no it's hours
That's 2/4/6/8 hours
I think?
Charts are confusing and can only hurt me.
They need better labeling on those axes.
agreed
Lets label them with real axes.
19:41
I can't even confirm the x axis is actually age
"8 hours per day (2003-2015)" looks like a subtitle, not an axis label.
There is a tiny misalignment between the 8 and the h that tells me the 8 is on the axis.
Even then, "Hours per day (2003 - 2015)" should be left of the y-axis and centered vertically.
and using that misalignment we can get 73 units higher than normal
I mean what
Just to be clear that it's not a subtitle.
19:43
@Yuuki HUE
download the csv file
Oh look as you get older you get more alone.
Time to build an army of unstoppable killbots who like me.
@MadMAxJr Are you prioritizing the "killbot", the "unstoppable", or the "like me" part?
I'd go with "like me" "killbot" and "unstoppable", but I could be talked into swapping unstoppable to 2nd place
Robots that unstoppably like me with a part time hobby in killing all humans.
@MadMAxJr now when you say "all humans"..?
tfw find references crashes visual studio :(

Oh boy guys, Destiny 2 is going to have a story!
Bungie says it's the biggest change from Destiny to Destiny 2

Q: Super smash flash 2 beta

JaidenI was playing solo on training, and I saw that there were no smash balls. I went to the item list to see if it was there, but I couldn't find a way to summon it. My question is: when will the smash balls (once again) be a part of the game?

JakeDelete my account by accident how do I get It back

@KevinvanderVelden my alternate theory is he was going to turn around with "HAHA TECHNICALLY GTA V ISNT MULTIPLAYER YOU LOSE"
Who knows
So it turns out the reason why I'm getting a visual bug is because the visual items are ordered in the complete opposite manner in this second collection.

Q: Share games between PSN users

Ali BahraminezhadIt's been a while that I'm buying my games from PSN store. In every games I saw there is description which says "2/n Network players". As far as I know this option let us to share our games between friends, am I right? If yes, does the friend can play the game completely? I mean he/she can pla...

Yeah, so the index from the first collection doesn't match up to the other collection.
:(
On the bright side, there's still correspondence so I can use (secondCollection.length - 1) - firstIndex to find the index of the item in the second collection.
Still ugh though.
That looks fragile
If you know secondCollection corresponds to firstCollection, but in reverse order, why not just work with a reversed copy of secondCollection?
Because I have to manipulate elements in secondCollection.
And how did you get yourself into a state where you have two collections that you know have exactly corresponding items, but in reverse order?
21:07
@murgatroid99 I clicked on "work on this ticket" and found this.
@Yuuki Work with a reversed copy of firstCollection, then?
I need to manipulate elements in both collections.
And I don't think they're actually reversed. It's just rendering order has resulted in this.
If it's not actually reversed, the index formula above shouldn't work in general
They're both rendered first-to-last. It just so happens that secondCollection is rendered left-to-right and firstCollection is rendered bottom-to-top.
Yep, that's the case. Change doesn't fix the issue I'm running into.
Actually, I'm not exactly sure how to fix this or whether it really needs to be fixed.
SNES classic in September.
Sniping bots are already being built.
21:21
What's the solution to controlled scarcity? AUTOMATION!
the solution is to knock over all the retailer's servers with my own purchase requests.
And then sell them all on eBay for $85.99
I wonder if all of these sniping bots are hosted together or in clusters.
user15026
@WorldEngineer bought me the best best mug today.

It might be one of those situations where the hardware is installed but the drivers haven't been written yet.
Damn. Not only did he not install it, he sutured a 'Vista-Ready' sticker onto my arm.

Okay.
All paperwork signed and ready to go.
Just need super large check from lender, and new house is a go on Saturday.
@MadMAxJr did you not know? It was pinned and everything when they told us
@Frank they actually do a physical check? Like the sweepstakes winner ones?
@GodEmperorDune Large as in amount. Not physcially large.
@Frank thats disappointing. it would be so much more fun if your lender gave you a giant check like you won the jackpot
22:04
@Dragonrage That doesn't help me. I still have to deposit it.
hmm, yea the bank might not be so happy if you tried to deposit it. also it probably wouldnt fit in an atm
See I don't want an RJ-45 jack installed on my neck in case those really cool four-plug Ghost in the Shell:SAC jacks come to market.
@Frank I assume houses are a bit more complicated than a PG kit?
@MadMAxJr A little. And rather more expensive.
PG kits can be bought with a minimum of fuss.
I've signed so many documents for this thing I see paper in my sleep.
i had to sign a 72 page document the other day
and i wasnt even buying anything
@Frank wat? not electronic yet?
22:07
@GodEmperorDune Nope. All hard copy.
i dunno why that stuff is still hard copy
all of my documents for buying my car were electronic on a board
it was kinda cool

Q: PS4 account shared among other users

Worried MomMy son shared his account to several players, those players made charges in to his account and credit card, so to whom these purchases are credited, to my son account or to the other players account?

i wonder who regularly does more documents. real estate agents or car dealerships
@Dragonrage Seeing as I've signed at least a dozen documents for this house process, and probably closer to two, I'd assume real estate agents.
22:15
i feel like more people buy cars than houses though
and i probably had like 8 or so documents to sign
@Dragonrage probably depends on the area
southern california will definitely be more cars
but it would be much more housing in someplace like new york city
yea prolly
And in prairie country, by the capital city, it'll probably be close to even.
wtf capcom
The sale on Mega Man Legacy Collection ended mid way through the sale
okay well, fuck you then Capcom? Roms it is?
I don't understand how Capcom has so much trouble with basic competency
@Wipqozn They both have a pathological aversion to money and require it to survive.
22:26
@Yuuki Seems like it
Nintendo has a minor case of this same syndrome.
22:43
So been watching a bunch of videos about this Alex Mauer thing that's been happening......i think i'm not in the correct world in which someone is making Digital Homicide look sane in comparison
@Wipqozn i reported you to the steam police. gaben is coming for you now
I'm with @Wipqozn. Capcom is so damn backwards when it comes to updating their classics that you get a much better experience from ROMs than official products.
i have a name that is fairly commonly shortened, and i dont mind going by either the shortened version or the longer, but it bothers me that people automatically shorten it without asking if it is okay to shorten it
@Dragonrage don't be so uptight, drgnrg
seriously though, why don't people ask first?
thats not a shortening of my name. thats a murdering of my name
a shortening would be like Dragonrage-> Dragon or Dragonrage->Rage
22:56
@Dragonrage vowels are for the weak
but perhaps you need to be pumped up a bit dr@g0nr@g3
