Q: Seeing all the crafting materials on a recipe in Diablo 3 on console?

Lasse V. KarlsenI just found the plan for Staff of Herding in Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls on Xbox One, and checking the recipe shows me 3 materials needed: Wirt's Bell Black Mushroom Gibbering Gemstone I found the names of those items from finding the recipe online. So, here's my two questions related to the c...

Anyone in here ever built a PC?

@RPiAwesomeness o/

@RPiAwesomeness yes, regardless of which bit
I've build computer cases from scratch :D

And soon I will have space to do that again

8:09 PM
kk...I have a few questions, as I'm planning to build my first desktop :D
I'm hoping I can keep the budget within $500-$550 (I know, low-end, I can't afford any more :P)

Where do you live?
Cause my go to resources won't help much unless you're in holland =p

@RPiAwesomeness That's low-end? I must be doing it wrong.

@KevinvanderVelden You can still provide information, if not on pricing

@OrigamiRobot for a whole computer? That's not quite mid-range I'd say

@RPiAwesomeness building yourself is a ton cheaper than buying ones in-box. 500$ is more than enough for a very competent rig

8:11 PM
@KevinvanderVelden For the tower.

That's what I'm hoping. And, seeing as I'm not needing a huge, massive, Skyrim on Max settings build, I'm hoping I can get away with a decent build. That's why I'm asking around

I'm thinking of keeping all these "% Okay, now what?" comments in this Matlab code. Just to express my confusion for matlab.

@RPiAwesomeness you can get a pretty decent rig if you buy components and put them together yourself

Regarding GPUs. If I'm not planning on doing serious gaming (maybe Minecraft), what should I be looking at for GPUs?
@KevinvanderVelden Exactly what I'm planning on

@RPiAwesomeness start with motherboard/cpu then focus on what is compatible with that. RAM, Video, and then make sure you have a powersupply beefy enough for it all.

8:13 PM
iirc, Minecraft is more CPU intensive than it is GPU intensive. I could be totally wrong though.

@RPiAwesomeness How much mods will said minecraft have?

@Unionhawk you're correct.

@Unionhawk Yes it is

It's not-very-well written java

Because more mods = more load on nearly everything.

8:13 PM
I'm still calling @UNI wrong on principle.

you don't even need a case if you don't want to.... make one yourself out of whatever... just make sure it has enough airflow

@OrigamiRobot This is fair.

@Rapitor lol, yeah...I was at a friends house and we needed a Minecraft server to play. His dad is a tech guy and he slapped together a working Windows XP computer in ~5-10 minutes in a cardboard box top.

@Rapitor If you're going to do that for your first rig then you might as well not use a case =p

I want it to be fast, able to handle Graphics (GIMP, Photoshop) and 3D rendering (Blender) and possibly emulation (VBox, NES)

8:15 PM
@RPiAwesomeness those kind of graphics are different than traditional gaming cards... and usually more expensive...

I know for most of those, I will need a good CPU, but I want to know what I should look for in the GPU...any suggestions
@Rapitor Wonderful :P

@Rapitor hardly
Those are all just CPU unless you want a really expensive pro card

In my case, would this be overkill:

Which you don't want

newegg.com/Product/…-na--na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
dangit formatting

8:16 PM
Every computer I've build (3) has been able to run games at the time on High settings for ~$500
maybe I'm just not playing the right games.

Big question, does this 500 include monitor/mice/keyboard/sound?

5 mins ago, by Origami Robot
@KevinvanderVelden For the tower.

@KevinvanderVelden I've got a crappy mechanical keyboard from like the early 2000s. A good Logitech mouse and a monitor. As for sound, no, I don't have anything

Keyboard and sound is like $30

@OrigamiRobot the right way is 2 instances of BF4, 3 of Team Fortress 2, and a Minecraft FTB server for good measure ;P

8:17 PM
@OrigamiRobot he never stated that
And I'm asking him =p

@KevinvanderVelden I was clarifying my own claims.

Actually, I might have two monitors...

@RPiAwesomeness ok, monitor is really the most expensive of that, you can get a working sound set for 20 dollars

I am also not counting OS

@OrigamiRobot Keep it that way. I'm installing Ubuntu and probably never touching Windows if I can help it.
If I can get an Intel CPU (another question, go AMD for price or Intel for quality) I will dual-boot OS X.

@KevinvanderVelden @Rapitor Is this GPU overkill?
$239.99

I always go AMD for better power:price ratio, but I haven't bought a CPU in years so I could be out of touch there.

'Cause that's what ChooseMyPC suggested

@RPiAwesomeness half your budget on a card is a bit overkill.. as the other components can be pricy too

Hmm, I'm not sure. It's been a while since I looked this stuff up

8:21 PM
@RPiAwesomeness I keep my GPU budget at $150

But yeah, what @Rapitor said

@Rapitor That's what I was figuring
@OrigamiRobot That sounds about right

I try to do $100 CPU, $150 GPU and go from there

FAE
@OrigamiRobot I was just talking about this with a friend earlier, she said that that's the case again, but the current i5's from Intel are easier/more reliable to OC

Try finding all the things you want, counting them up and then seeing what you can go down on if needed

8:22 PM
MB usually is ~$75, same for RAM

@FAE Yeah, I've seen that, but I'm not really considering Overclocking.

PSU is the hardest part IMO

FAE
@RPiAwesomeness I don't really do it either, could be useful for you if you're doing stuff like rendering

@OrigamiRobot Not to mention getting a good looking, reasonably-priced case that works with the Mobo of choice

FAE
@RPiAwesomeness Cases aren't too bad

8:23 PM
@RPiAwesomeness Prioritize airflow. Aesthetics are secondary.

@OrigamiRobot True.

Q: what mods do you recommend?

moishiI love minecraft and i love mods. Does anyone have any suggestions? i particularly enjoy the mods that come with new ores and rocks and that sort of thing. i already have industrial craft 2 and im absolutely loving it, so somethig of the sort would be great! I have minecraft 1.7.2

As for MB compatibility, it's pretty much ATX and mini-ATX

@RPiAwesomeness barebone kit

8:24 PM
And...my internet hath conked out

and I have never had a fun experience with mini-ATX

Okay. CPU 1: AMD A8-6600K: newegg.com/Product/…-na--na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

mini-ATX = bad.
stares angry at pc

CPU 2: AMD Athlon 760K: newegg.com/Product/…-na--na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
lol

8:26 PM
It's too small, my soundcard can't fit on the board, even though I do have a free slot. But it's kinda completely unaccessible due to cooling systems things.

I do want to have a SSD for booting and applications

@Arperum I have never bought a sound card.

Thats about another $100 at least

@OrigamiRobot I did, but it's at my nephew now, inside my old PC.

@OrigamiRobot Woah, Ivy Bridge i7s are down to about $300

8:28 PM
1 the-sims4 question, 2k views in 20 hours... I think this'll be a big one

Yeah...I can't afford a $300 CPUs. I'd love to, but I cant :P

I could really hear the difference between the soundcard and onboard sound.

Is it me or did Tom's Hardware used to be more recent in regards to their charts?

@RPiAwesomeness You don't need an i7 anyway. i5 is the best you should get for gaming

@Rapitor Hmm...that Pentium CPU is considered better than the AMD A8-6600K I was looking by CPUBoss

8:30 PM
It looks like the i5s and equivalent AMD processors are around $200

For whatever reason, I associate Pentium with slow...dunno why. I think I may need to change my thinking

Q: How do you get the Maiamai off the tops without using the Pegasus boots

user86630How do you get the little maiamai off the tops of trees without using the pegasus boots cause my L button does not work

Q: How do I transfer my battlefield 4 data to my ps4

calebkittI have Battlefield 4 (BF4) for my ps3 and my ps4 and when I started bf4 up on my ps4 it asked if I wanted to transfer my ps3 bf4 data to my ps4 and I accidentally pressed NO and I wanted to press yes is there any way I can get that to pop back up?

I guess it just sounds old to me

@RPiAwesomeness Probably because most of the pentiums you know are from 10+ years ago

I have a Phenom II X4 945 and it's still going strong.

8:31 PM
Probably

@OrigamiRobot Phenom's are good CPUs

GPU is HD 6870

Obviously, you want a higher clock speed, but what else should I look for in a CPU? I know Clock speed, L2 cache, and cores...anything else?
That's all I need for a basic build, right?

@RPiAwesomeness Don't get a separate soundcard if you have some kind of a budget.

An SSD on a $500 budget is really pushing it IMO

8:34 PM
You really only need HDD OR SSD but both is ok too

@Arperum And sound cards are only needed if you're an audiophile, I think.

@Arperum I built an expensive battlestation and I still didn't get a sound card

Or you spend a ton of money on one, or you don't get one at all. Onboard sound is good enough.

But I don't think SSDs are worth the money anyway, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

8:35 PM
@OrigamiRobot I know, I just included it in case I can get a good deal

@Frank Yup. And I am. At least somewhat.

I'd love a WD Black2
but they cost like $200...so...yeah

I had a Sound Blaster way back when, but I honestly can't tell the difference between on-board and dedicated card.

And I don't have very good headphones...so it doesn't matter that much anyways. I can always upgrade later

@RPiAwesomeness You should use pcpartpicker.com to make sure everything is compatible

8:37 PM
@murgatroid99 Yup...been doing that since the beginning!

@RPiAwesomeness It looked like you were doing it all in a spreadsheet, so I wasn't sure

Yeah, I'm just dropping ideas onto there and comparing

@Frank I had a ~€150 card, I could really hear the difference. The soundcard halped in filtering background noise from my mic too.

FAE
@OrigamiRobot I have a 965!
Going to replace it though soon when I upgrade. It's my biggest bottleneck now. :(

@Arperum Which is good, if you use your mic a lot.
The only time I used mine is for Monster Huntering.
And I have no idea if @Raven or @Wipqozn can hear background noise.

8:42 PM
And I might need to use a Mic...eventually I want to be able to do videos for my Blog

I was voicechatting a lot back then.

FAE
@Arperum Huh, interesting. I've never had a separate soundcard either. I use my mic pretty much every day though.

@FAE It was specific to the soundcard/headset combo. It was some card from creative, and I have a creative headset.

FAE
@Arperum Ah, gotcha.

@OrigamiRobot They're really cheap now, and the difference is certainly noticeable

8:45 PM
@MadScientist I think the same amount of money could be spent in other area for greater performance increases at this kind of budget.
$610

@OrigamiRobot I haven't build at this kind of budget, below a certain point an SSD just doesn't fit. But the difference is noticeable, and I wouldn't build without one now

@OrigamiRobot Example for me?

@RPiAwesomeness If you want, I just like building computers. I really didn't put a ton of thought into each part.

It was mostly just rating and price.
And comparing to what I have now.

8:48 PM
I actually looked at that CPU...I think I decided I might have been overkill

@OrigamiRobot The PSU seems excessive to me. And RAM seems to be pretty expensive right now, but I don't know the current market

@MadScientist PSUs are the worst part to shop for.
I try to stay at $50 for them

I have a 420W Seasonic and my GPU draws more power than that one

@RPiAwesomeness If you can wait a month or two, Black Friday deals will probably get you really good bang for your buck.

^^ Good point

8:50 PM
@Frank That's what I'm planning on.

The easiest way to save money on this build would be to severely downgrade the GPU. I don't know what Minecraft needs, but if you don't play games the price for a PC goes down a lot

I've been thinking about getting new monitors for myself, since they seem to be coming down a lot in price.
I wonder if there might be any decent deals on 4K monitors.

Or, maybe just get another two monitors, and mount them above my existing ones.

@MadScientist And I'm not going to be playing very many games (as of right now, any and all video games are banned from my house-hold. Always has been that way, I don't understand it.)

8:53 PM
@MadScientist Fixed

However, I'm going to be doing Graphics and 3D rendering (GIMP/Blender) and possibly emulation...so I've got to figure out if that factors in. I don't think it should...

@RPiAwesomeness That's not a place to really be living, then.

Wait, is it automatically factoring in MIRs?

Because no video games would mean boring central.

@Frank EXACTLY! PREACH IT BROTHER!

8:54 PM
isn't that right, @TrentHawkins?

@OrigamiRobot Is RAM really that expensive right now? I have 16GB for a while now and it wasn't all that expensive

@MadScientist Seems so :(
I sorted by $/GB

I'd love 16GB. 8GB is all I'm going to be able to get for now :(

@MadScientist That's expensive?

I have 8GB and it does just fine.

8:57 PM

I paid $80 per 4GB stick a few years ago.

If you're into this sort of thing.

@Frank It's probably because I'm used to EUR prices. But it doesn't look like it got any cheaper since I bought the last time

@MadScientist Nope, doesn't look that way.
Might be a good time to find cheap RAM during Thanksgiving.

8:59 PM
@OrigamiRobot Man, get an SSD

@MBraedley Nope, my HDD is not causing me any problems.

@OrigamiRobot Man, get Linux

Also, this is kind of awesome.

@RPiAwesomeness Nope, Win7 is not causing me any problems.
Linux, on the other hand, has.

@MBraedley ^^

9:02 PM
tumbld?

@MBraedley Yea, I saw this and it made me all fuzzy.

@OrigamiRobot I swear it was just working.

@OrigamiRobot Which Distro? Ubuntu, Mint, Debian?

@RPiAwesomeness The fact that this is a question does not help your case.
It was Ubuntu.

9:04 PM
@OrigamiRobot Hey, Choice is a good thing. When did you last use Ubuntu?

2006
Wait, that's a lie.
2010

@RPiAwesomeness Ubuntu should be fine for most uses

What was the issue?
Or do you not remember?

I just remeber it was more of a hassle than it was worth.
The only issue I have with Windows is the cost and I got Windows software for free through my university.

I use Windows for games because that is what most games run on, but I am using Ubuntu right now at work

9:07 PM
high-fives @murgatroid99

@MBraedley If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

@RPiAwesomeness Uh, oops, didn't actually reply to this like I meant to
@OrigamiRobot Yeah, that wasn't meant for you. This is, however.

6 mins ago, by MBraedley
@OrigamiRobot I swear it was just working.

@MBraedley Oh, I thought you were putting the bad ju-ju on my HDD.

9:09 PM
lol

@OrigamiRobot Well, that too.

Happy my SSD hasn't failed yet

RANDOM COMMMENT ALERT!
:)

@MBraedley I've had an SSD for almost 2 years, and it seems to be fine

@MBraedley I don't care how much of a performance increase it is, if I don't have a need for it (or even know I have a need for it) I'm not going to do it.
I've used PCs with SSDs and I have not noticed a difference.

9:11 PM
@Noctrine I have a feeling my SSD at work is failing. Something's going on with the machine that I (and the IT lady) can't figure out, and it could very well just be software.

I know mine will start to behave really slowwwly if I don't keep so much free space on it.

@murgatroid99 That's not the point of the article. The previous two might actually make the point more succinctly, mainly that you don't really know that you're missing out until you actually use one.

@Noctrine trim?

@MBraedley If my ignorance is saving me money, I welcome it.

9:13 PM
@Chippies Disclaimer: you are not going to win an argument with @OrigamiRobot
not when he goes like this

@MBraedley Yeah, I see that now. And I do love my PC's boot time

FAE
@badp you a word

The biggest problem was updating my adobe stuff moved the cache back onto my C drive, instead of the other SSD I got (and fully expect to burn out quickly) for it.

@OrigamiRobot SSDs are below 1$/GB now. Sure that's about 5-8x what a HDD is going for, but you make up for it in time saved over the life of the drive.

@FAE actually, two.

9:14 PM
Boot time? What's that?

Thanks ~

@JasonBerkan inorite?

@JasonBerkan Are you trying to imply that your computer boots instantly, or that you never reboot?

4 mins ago, by Origami Robot
I've used PCs with SSDs and I have not noticed a difference.

@Unionhawk I am not sure where your message to me went but :D anyways

9:15 PM
@OrigamiRobot you were using these PCs WRONG

@murgatroid99 I never reboot. Computers sleep nowadays.

@Chippies Using a browser and playing games.

@JasonBerkan I hibernate my desktop each night, so boot time still matters to me. I could just put it to sleep, since the extra power savings with hibernation isn't that much.

@JasonBerkan And yet, somehow my computer occasionally needs security updates. And every once in a while the power goes out

@JasonBerkan Pfft, I never even sleep.

9:16 PM
@OrigamiRobot Those aren't the uses where SSDs help.

@OrigamiRobot it won't affect your browser much or games for that matter, but the browser opens instantly and closes just as fast on an SSD

@murgatroid99 Laptop. OS X.

@murgatroid99 Sounds like I don't need one then.

once you see the desktop on windows, everything is already loaded and it's ready for use

At one point, my previous laptop had an uptime of over a year.

9:17 PM
every application opens almost instantly

@JasonBerkan Impressive.

games that take long to load, load faster on an SSD

@Chippies I don't open or close my browser on a regular basis.

@OrigamiRobot So in that case, yeah, an SSD might not matter. Start doing anything that is disk heavy, say compiling code, and you'll see a huge difference.

FAE
@MBraedley Yeah, that's one reason I'd like an SSD, I hibernate as well. Though partially that's because my HDD boot time is so long. >_>

9:18 PM
@OrigamiRobot if all you do on your PC is have a browser open and play games, then you probably don't need an SSD

@MBraedley And if I did something that made the difference noticeable, I would have a different opinion.

if you actually do stuff on your PC other than gaming and browsing web, it will make a difference

I'm not saying my way is the way.

Oh dear. SSD HDD Wars have begun
/me hides under a rock

@RPiAwesomeness hardly a war, you kinda need both, unless you're ridiculously rich, lol
I pretty much revived @Jennybeans 7 year old PC by installing an SSD on it

9:19 PM
I'm saying I know what I need and an SSD isn't it. Since I have no experience with them, it'd be silly of me to recommend them to people.

@OrigamiRobot I'd imagine you'd see a difference when working with AutoCAD, especially when working on an assembly with lots of parts.

of course, a brand new HDD may have been just as good, but she has no need for high capacity storage, so SSD was a better option

@MBraedley Probably.
I don't use AutoCAD at home though

I'd love an SSD. Maybe I can afford it...hopefully I can get a deal on Black Friday/Cyber Monday

godammit blinkbundle
My mom is gonna be pissed

9:21 PM
@RPiAwesomeness I got a 256gb SSD on boxing day (not sure if Canada exclusive) for 120$ iirc

@Chippies That's the biggest argument for me getting an SSD.

uh oh...is your computer frozen w. censored on the screen?

@OrigamiRobot if you want fast response time from many small applications, SSD is great

@Chippies That's my issue with SSD. Not enough space.

9:22 PM
@james @fei decided it would be fun to mod abuse it, and I just said "No, screw this." and deleted it.

@JasonBerkan which is why you need both :/

I AM HOMEEEEEEEEEEE

@Chippies Apple fanboi. Both isn't an option, yet.

@JasonBerkan I have a 250 MB one, to share between Windows and Linux

my 256gb SSD is doing me fine, just need to prioritize which games go on which drive

9:22 PM
@Unionhawk Ahh, Indeed Indeed /me shakes fist at @FEichinger

It's enough.

@JasonBerkan ah, sucks to be an apple fanboi :P
I got a 256gb SSD and 750gb HDD in my laptop
but if I could only have one drive, I probably wouldn't get an SSD

Glad I was around to see/respond to that one before he got to it too

I don't need this 1TB at all, but it's what I have and I don't need anything new until it dies.

What really sucks is that I can't get a Macbook w/ a retina display with an HDD.

FAE
9:23 PM
@OrigamiRobot so much free space D:

Jelly?

@JasonBerkan if you got loads of cash, you can get a 1tb SSD :P

@Chippies Gobs and Gobs

FAE
@OrigamiRobot I'm rotating installing/uninstalling things on my drives because I'm running out

although I doubt you can install one in a macbook without voiding warranty...

9:24 PM
I'm currently attempting to replace the CPU on my family's school computer. Should be interesting.

It was funny the first time, but no, that isn't going to become a thing.

@FAE I just uninstall steam games if I don't play them after a month.
I can always reinstall them later.

FAE
@OrigamiRobot I can't do that or I'll never play them again
@OrigamiRobot Also MMOs are big

Cest la vie

Salut!

9:25 PM
@FAE That's why I have the fastest internet connection I can get.
Also, you have like twice the speed I do!

@OrigamiRobot "C'est"

space is an issue regardless of the size of storage

@JasonBerkan Too much effort for too little gain.

FAE
@OrigamiRobot Jochem says to me that it's not a big deal for that reason but srsly, I need as few hurdles as possible :P

9:26 PM
Heck...my families is definitely not the fastest we can get. 100kbps if directly ethernet and if it's a good day... aww yeee..rocking dat crappy DSL

@Chippies - 1TB SSD is a $500 option on the top end Macbook Pro.

@FAE The way I see it, if redownloading it is a hurdle, I don't want to play it very much anyway.

@JasonBerkan that's... not actually too expensive, last I checked, that's what 1 TB SSDs go for anyway

So I'm really saving myself space and time.

I mean, not too expensive compared to non-apple options

9:27 PM
@Chippies $500 more than the 512GB.

@JasonBerkan ah, well in that context it is expensive

The 512GB is included in the price, so no idea what the actual cost is.

I guess buying an SSD and asking apple customer service to install it is not an option?

Silly @Chippies! Non-Apple products don't work with Apple products. Here, have more Kool-Aid...

@Chippies No. You have 3 options and they are all black.

9:30 PM
@OrigamiRobot not sure if making fun of apple or serious...

FIANLLY I CAN DIABLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

@JasonBerkan I thought that was a hybrid drive

@Chippies The Kool-Aid part doesn't give it away?

@OrigamiRobot well, it is apple and I'm pretty sure I've heard other people saying that non-apple products don't work with apple products
especially peripherals
so ya'know, I wouldn't be too surprised if that was actually true

@Chippies thatsthejoke.jpg

9:32 PM
@MBraedley I actually don't know what it is. It probably isn't an SSD - my bet it's whatever they put in an iPhone / iPad.
The site just says "x GB flash storage".

@JasonBerkan because it wouldn't be apple if they actually revealed any details to the customer

As opposed to the "x GB solid state drive" available on the non-retina Macbook Pro.

@spugsley uh...we have a Satan Worshiper in The Bridge...could we get some angelic help here?
jk..

@spugsley What's your best rift level?

I was making a joke regarding the word Diablo meaning devil

9:36 PM
have any of you paid attention to what intel and amd are up to lately? I think it's time to look into getting a proper PC for @Jennybeans, not sure if there's new stuff coming out soon or not...

Who's @Jennybeans?

@Frank I've been away so the only one I did was the one with you guys that one night
@RPiAwesomeness huh?

@RPiAwesomeness my wife

@spugsley Well, get on that. :P

she was active here for few days and then she stopped... sigh

9:38 PM
Ah...I see...that's what I was figuring

I blame Wipqozn

@Frank I wanna start seasons :3

@spugsley It seems like everyone does. :(
Nobody wants to rift with me.

THIS IS GROWING OLD YS
