9:03 PM
what's a good and easy way to learn to read sheet score music?

@Chippies take lessons

@GnomeSlice how is that a good and easy way to learn?

@Chippies Play around with something like MuseScore

@GnomeSlice I have MuseScore installed, but I don't remember why and how it works

9:05 PM
@GnomeSlice didn't you take music lessons?

Long time ago, yeah.
For years when I was younger

well, that just shows that music lessons are no good

I haven't really kept in practice though, I haven't retained much of it
but I can still read music
@SaintWacko Tallowmere has local co-op now

it would take me hours to read a single song with score sheet...

@GnomeSlice Ooh, cool

9:07 PM
@GnomeSlice I guess I don't really need to learn HOW to read sheet music, I just want a way to memorize that stuff fast

because right now, when I read sheet music, I find a reference note and count up/down from it and that's just silly >.>

(treble clef)
FACE

@GnomeSlice I had that stuff written down somewhere...

lmao at the burrito one, I never learned that

9:09 PM
are there any good practices that help memorize this stuff?

Do it a lot

I guess I should rephrase everything

@Chippies do you play music?
Actually playing really helps cement it.

FAE
@GnomeSlice hahaha I didn't either

I don't care much about note names, I just want to learn to associate sheet music notes with the keys on my midi keyboard

9:10 PM
*+

@Chippies Play some basic songs from sheet music on your keyboard.

FAE
I mostly use tabs for bass guitar

@GnomeSlice sigh, I have tried that and it doesn't work

Try harder

I transpose the sheet stuff to keys on the keyboard and then I just remember which keys to press and I don't read the sheet

FAE
9:11 PM
@Chippies have you tried using a whiteboard marker to write the note names on the white keys?

@Chippies Lmao that's how I always played when I was a kid

@FAE I have note names above the white keys

I could never really play along with music
I couldn't sightread anything

FAE
I couldn't either

guitar tabs are million times easier to read
it's just numbers and lines
sheet scores should have note names, instead of the round ballzy notes

9:14 PM
There are different kinds of notes

@GnomeSlice I know that
but they all have a ballzy thing
the oval thingy
that could be replaced with the note name

Walda is probably seen again, the people who saw her before placed food outside and some kat that looks like her came to eat! I'm going to see if I can find her there now for a quick check. crosses fingers

Some notes have empty ballzy things, others are full. So that doesn't work.

@Chippies Not really, no.

@Unionhawk I know, but I'm sure we can figure something out!

9:17 PM
@Unionhawk Empty notes are longer notes.

The "ballzy thing" and the "oval thing" has to do with length.

@FEichinger all notes have oval things, that's the note
the lines and squigglies (and sometimes the oval being empty) has to do with length

I misunderstood you.

my music vocabulary is so great!

@Chippies The filling of the note too.

9:19 PM
It's still to do with the length. The part about the oval being empty or full.
So

However, that still doesn't mean you could just replace that with "the note name".

@FEichinger you could, if you came up with something to replace the filling

FAE
@Arperum :O Good luck!

The shape of the note corresponds to length, the position to pitch and timing.

@Chippies the whole point of the current system is that it can be read visually without having to read like numbers and shit inside it

9:20 PM
Heck, notes come in so many variations. You'd also need to consider modifier symbols.

Yes. That.

@GnomeSlice well, it's a horrible system for beginners

@Chippies nub

@Chippies It's fairly easy, actually.

9:22 PM
hello arqade

the notes aren't even on the lines, how is that easy

@Chippies Sure they are

does any1 have problems login into steam?

@Chippies That's why there are additional lines.

They just had to draw new ones

9:23 PM
@RedRiderX they are extra lines

@Chippies Yep
When you roam outside the current octave

@Chippies Ugh, I suck at reading ledger lines

as if it wasn't difficult enough with the original lines, lol

@RedRiderX Not octave - staff

@Chippies Heh, I guess
Oh?
I haven't read music for ages...
@GnomeSlice Ah right

9:24 PM
A staff already covers more than one octave
I sucked ass at reading music
I had to do it like one note at a time

@Chippies Theoretically, that could be represented by changing the clef.

and then just memorize everything

@GnomeSlice Ah that is right

Ooh, are we talking about how hard music is to read?

@FEichinger music theory... vomit

9:24 PM
brb restarting router

Practically, however, this is conventional. And convention is what makes it easy and universal.

this is sweet
tried to pause with esc and it exited though

reading sheet scores makes my eyes go blurry...

@Unionhawk For someone who was always repulsed by music because it runs in the family, I'm surprised by how well I still remember that all.

9:34 PM
steam fixed itself

9:51 PM
I want to argue with this but I don't know how
> I’ve said it about a million times now, but Cubetractor leaves me feeling empty, like something’s missing, and for lack of a better term, I’m going to call that thing “heart.” It’s like someone tried to mathematically discover the process for creating a sleeper indie hit, but never stopped to wonder if the game was actually fun. Of course, I’m sure there’s plenty of people out there who will enjoy this game. There always are. But let me be clear. Success and attention are the great diluters.
That's a really interesting perspective
I kind of see where he's coming from.

Q: Mods Wont Load in Minecraft

Minecraft PlayerSo I am trying to download a mod for Minecraft (Pixelmon, Too Much TNT, or Primative Mobs mods) but when I do they never work. I have Forge 1.7.10, and the only mod that worked for me was the Damage Indicator mod. I know I am putting the folders and files in the right folders (Mods, Versions\Forg...

@FEichinger You wouldn't want to, necessarily. The treble clef is typically for the right hand and bass clef is for the left, unless otherwise noted. You would never write it as 2 bass clefs, and it'd be too cramped and hard to read if the right hand were written in the existing bass clef.
The only other option would be to use an alto or tenor clef, but those are so uncommon, especially for piano music, that it could cause as many problems as it solves
Actually, a suboctave treble clef would probably be the best option, as most piano players know what it means, and it's super easy to transpose an octave on the go.

@MBraedley I did say theoretically. ;)

I have a feeling I'm about to have legitimate upvotes flagged as serial voting. I'm just that awesome at asking good KSP questions.
