Athkatla is big. 120k or so population, that's a lot of people and a lot of very specialised trades that can be found (if you know where to look).

+ it's a port city, capital and so a major trading hub.

You can basically justify near everything in there (even stuff like "ice merchants" hauling that ice from thousands of miles away).

If the PCs are supposed to be strangers to the city - or otherwise too occupied for the "small stuff" - you can have one of those buildings house a "carrier". They'll go, find and buy stuff on behalf of the PCs, taking a small provision and a bit of time, and spare them running around the place for stuff and you implementing very specific merchants.

Q: Minecraft - Blocks aren't showing

When I make a new world in Minecraft, no blocks show. When I mine them they appear in my hand but upon placing them they disappear. I've tried texture packs, Feed-the-beast and reinstalling my game multiple times! Help!

@fredley You create most of an LPMud yourself as well. Typical mudlibs only give you a "framework" - character, monster, room, object, verb and so on code. You can freely manipulate it within the game, without restarting anything, for a very quick iteration. The actual rooms and whatnot you'll still have to create yourself.

@PrivatePansy The combat forces of the world sure love their acronyms. The German ones at least use lower letters as well, though stuff like "PzKpfw", "PiBtl" or "StHptm" is still gibberish until you know what it means ("Panzer-Kampfwagen", "Pionier-Bataillon" and "Stabshauptmann", respective).

LoL just has a different strategic focus than DotA.

Denying in DotA is the least interesting, most anti-fun mechanic in a video game today.

Removing that doesn't actually remove strategy.

It just shifts the focus from killing your own minions to zoning your opponents and vying for position (both things that can also happen in DotA, but receive less focus).

@FEichinger I like the mechanics of LoL where you can use abilities more often (and therefore it may seem "spammier" than DotA) because you have more mana, because using abilities is the fun part of the game. DotA is all about auto-attacking for the win, which is fine if you're playing a classic RTS and have 50+ units, but when you only have one unit, that's boring as fuck.

Doing animation cancelling to avoid auto-attack so you can last-hit is like trying to type 100 words per minute after supergluing your thumb to your index for the sole reason that, a few evolutions ago, we didn't have opposite thumbs.

@StrixVaria I feel it makes the game more challenging and engaging than just hammering abilities until the enemy goes down - it focuses a lot more on blocking and surviving than on attacking.

@FEichinger You're not just hammering abilities until the enemy goes down, necessarily. There are cooldowns, and you do still run out of mana if you spam constantly. It's more forgiving than DotA, but there's still stuff to consider. There's just as much strategy in LoL, it's just with a different focus. I find actually being able to do interesting things more engaging.

This is why both games are popular.

To just dismiss LoL as amateurish isn't fair to it.
