9:00 PM
i wondered why the quotation :D

FAE
@Wandang mostly cuz it's not in English

but where are u from then

FAE
I was born in South Korea, was adopted by American parents when I was a baby and grew up in America.

btw inburgering = einbürgerung in german :P i propably could understand all you would write in dutch
wow

FAE
@Wandang I don't know German, so I'm never sure of how much lingual equivalency there is.

9:01 PM
and u chose netherlands of all places? :D
you must like cheese a lot

FAE
I can read some German by virtue of knowing Dutch, but I've never formally studied German, so I can only read bits and pieces.
@Wandang One of my boyfriends is Dutch and I moved over here to live with him.
Though I do indeed like cheese.

@Wandang cheese is pretty awesome

@FAE thats crazy commitment ಠ_ಠ
your boyfriend is lucky

FAE
@Wandang It is. We met online and were together for 4 years doing a long distance relationship before I moved over here. Before I moved, we only got to see each other twice a year for a month at a time. Our 11 year anniversary is in February.

Can someone link me to the Mainstream Meta-Thread discussing if mod requests will remain on-topic or not?

9:04 PM
@FAE holy f*cking shit. mass respect there
that rarely happens

@Agent86 asked a question that is spotlighted, but it doesn't seem to be about that exact issue

my long range relationship was a failure

FAE
@Wandang Thanks. :) We've been through a lot. I'm also polyamorous, so I have 2 other partners I'm currently committed to. One lives here in the Netherlands too, we've been seeing each other 7.5~ years, the other is also long distance (@Fluttershy) and we've been together a year and a halfish.
@Wandang It's very challenging, under even the best of circumstances.

It can be difficult indeed!

wait what
so you are bi and open
thats quite progressive

FAE
9:10 PM
@Wandang I am bisexual, yes, but while I am poly, my relationship status is currently closed right now. I'm not looking for any more partners at the moment.

i guess you are pretty filled out
oh that might come wrong
arg damnit

FAE
pfffft lol

whatever makes you happy

FAE
:)

i only could handle the bi part personally
tri relationship with 2 woman is quite alright for me :D

9:13 PM
That's not what bi means. <_<

FAE
Also if we want to get super label-y, I usually identify as pansexual, as I am attracted to people who also identify outside of the gender binary, but that's usually a lot to explain.

>_>

I couldn't see myself dating two women. That's just not me. As a side note, I can't see myself dating one woman either, but that's just because I'm pathetic and antisocial.

HamStare @Wandang
...

ಠ_ಠ

9:15 PM
HamStare @fredley

FAE
Also, I'm unsure what gender you're assuming I am, but for clarity's sake, I'm a woman with 3 boyfriends.

@fredley

FAE
@Yuki Nothing wrong with that, non-monogamy's not for everyone.

@Fluttershy ? i meant if i had a relationship to lesbians that would be cool
so fluttershy is a guy?

FAE
@Wandang Well, if they were lesbians and you are male, they likely would not be dating you. ;)

9:16 PM
@Wandang Bisexual means you are sexually interested in both genders/sexes/I-don't-know-the-appropriate-word.

@Yuki i know i never said otherwise Oo

FAE
@Wandang Aye.

@Wandang I am a guy, yes.

@Wandang No, Fluttershy is female. @Fluttershy is a guy.

I am a robot.

9:17 PM
@Yuki Ambiguity for the win!

FAE
@OrigamiRobot Possibly made of paper!

@FAE i know i alrdy got a korb from lesbians
how is it called

Inconclusive.

downturn?

Or a robot who folds paper.

FAE
9:18 PM
@Wandang Rejection?

@Wandang Turned down?

FAE
Or turned down

y
:D
which was quite a bummer

I'm... not sure what you expected. >_>

since i had a good relationship (friend status) with her to a point that she was thinking about sex
but then it fall apart
6 years of knowing each other burned
the problem was not her beeing bi
no not bi, homo i mean
the problem was the same as @Yuki has
antisocial. would not go out, did not want to meet in person. etc
i suprised her at her house for a ride to see a movie
bad idea

9:22 PM
38 minutes!

@Fluttershy Until what?

FAE
@RonanForman He gets to head home

Ooohh, you've got me excited too.

Until it's 38 minutes from now, obv

Oh my. :3

9:23 PM
\o/

FAE
@Unionhawk Did you finally get your plane?

12 1/2 hours!

@RonanForman Untiiiiil?

I head back to Uni.

:( That means no Monster Hunter.

9:25 PM
@FAE Yep, I was lucky, I wasn't quite headed to NY. Just Ohio.

5 minutes!

2 hours!

FAE
@Unionhawk Yay! I think. Cuz... well, Ohio.

@Fluttershy I haven't even played it yet. I'll probably start playing it when I come back for easter.

till its 0 oclock and i head home from work. another 15 hour shift

9:26 PM
Isn't it weird how quite a lot of our lives are just waiting for other things.

FAE
@RonanForman I'm debating over whether I should feel depressed about this or not.

@FAE don't feel depressed, that's always the best option when available!

@FAE I wasn't suggesting most of our lives. Just that if we really organised things we could probably get the waiting time down.

Most of the time I'm waiting till I can take my pants off again.
3

FAE
@KevinvanderVelden Unfortunately, not my forté!
@RonanForman Very true.

9:30 PM
@FAE unfortunately =[ Depression sucks

@FAE You should just wait to make a decision on that.

@OrigamiRobot agreed

@FAE Although the things I do while waiting is often worthwhile.

Speaking of pants, time to put some on :(

@OrigamiRobot no pls, feel at home!

9:31 PM
@OrigamiRobot putting-pants-on-o'clock is the worst time of day :(

@OrigamiRobot but put that handkerchiefs away!

FAE
On another note, Awesome Games Done Quick starts tomorrow and runs through the 11th. It's a speed run livestream event. They're raising funds for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Twitch.tv will be donating money based on their highest concurrent viewer count, so the more people that watch, the better.

user15026
@OrigamiRobot Worst part of day.

user15026
@FAE Awesome.

FAE
@KevinvanderVelden Yeah. :/

9:32 PM
@FAE I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT AGDQ
MAN I CAME HOME AT THE RIGHT TIME FOR HYPE

pls watch that. it is an eyeopener

FAE
@AshleyNunn Considering the viewer count thing, hell, even if you don't plan on watching it, probably worth it to just keep running in the background to help out.

user15026
@Wandang Giving me some idea of what it is about would be shiny :)

user15026
@FAE I can try, but it might kill my ability to do stuff.

FAE
@AshleyNunn Well I mean like, if people have the bandwidth and stuff or don't have a monthly cap.

@AshleyNunn why the society needs to change in thinking to enable charities to give more money to their victims

user15026
@FAE yeah, I figured :)

because today charities that have a big overhead (most % goes to marketing) are seen as a virus
but they produce more money in the end for the victims then charity without a big overhead

@FAE jeah for dutch internet!

and it was a eyeopener for me to see some charities different

FAE
9:36 PM
@KevinvanderVelden Sometimes I forget we're so spoiled. :x

@KevinvanderVelden well or copy and paste the description, alright got me there :D

user15026
Rawr, Skype, y u no let me change my online status

FAE
@AshleyNunn Because it likes to be dumb.

@AshleyNunn you are not american?

user15026
It is driving me nuts

9:37 PM
@FAE jeah for having to upgrade my cabling because my internet is to fast :)

do americans not have a flatrate?

user15026
@Wandang I'm Canadian.

user15026
@Wandang For what? Internet?

y

@Wandang america has TERRIBLE internet

9:39 PM
OK, pants time is over.

FAE
@KevinvanderVelden Yeah, when we switched to Ziggo's package, we had to switch to using our server as a router because our older ADSL router couldn't handle it and routers for over 100Mbit at the time were pricier than outfitting our server.

user15026
@Wandang Don't even get me started on the state of internet in NA.

user15026
@OrigamiRobot hurraY!

FAE
@AshleyNunn Rogers. Just... Rogers. :(

user15026
@FAE Rogers, Bell, they are all messed up terrible

9:40 PM
@AshleyNunn lol but you guys have all the servers

FAE
@Wandang The infrastructure is just soooooo bad though.

cannot be as bad
i have 50 mbit but i want more

user15026
@Wandang Ohh, it is hella fucked.

FAE
It's really terrible. Plus the US and Canada's populations are more spread out, so getting broadband to more rural areas is a lot harder.

@Wandang if you're right next to the exchange centers it's plenty good, if you're anywhere else you've got a near-monopoly on that area and no stabillity

9:41 PM
@FAE you must be kidding me

user15026
@FAE YEah, and often the solution is dialup, or microwave relay that has a lot of points of failure

I've got like, 10. And it's expensive.

user15026
@Wandang She isn't. It sucks.

@FAE we need to put cable underground(!) thats much harder then usa style

FAE
@Wandang Where my parents live, there is only dial-up. Not even any mobile coverage.

9:41 PM
no
cable underground take a lot of time

@Wandang yeah sure, and then you have a tornado and everything is broken

You're right, we don't know what we're talking about.

@KevinvanderVelden well thats american style isnt it

FAE
They won't lay cable as far out as where my parents live.

they build houses out of wood
but you cannot tell me that those overgroundcable take more time then underground rural area connection
!!!

9:43 PM
@Wandang Everyone builds houses out of wood...

FAE
@Wandang But it's the fact that there's too few people in the area to make up for the cost.

user15026
You...really have no idea what it is like.

FAE
@ElfSlice No, it's all stone over here.

In fact, I call out resident expert on NA internet being wholly crap, @ElfSlice, to testify.

FAE
@ElfSlice Brick and stone and cement, here in the Netherlands.

9:44 PM
@ElfSlice stone and cement for a two story building

Floors are wooden, walls are stone

FAE
Like... houses can't really burn down here. They can burn out because of the floors in between stories being wooden, but not burn down.

@ElfSlice is that real or a joke?

user15026
@Wandang Good lord. It's real, mmmkay?

9:45 PM
@Wandang Real... >_>

FAE
@Wandang Real. That's how most North American houses start out.

@Wandang have you ever seen those extreme home make over shows?

Do they not do them like that in other parts of the world?

They put a house down in a week because it's all prefab wood

user15026
I grew up in a traditionally built log house.

9:45 PM
no i dont

user15026
(Which is beautiful as heck.)

Pole-based cabling is supposedly 10% cheaper to deploy than buried, although given how susceptible it is to disaster I suspect the realised cost ends up being much more. </anecdote>

@ElfSlice nope, we build 'm to last :)

i just see those houses torn apart from tornados
and wonder why they all collapsed

FAE
@ElfSlice Not really in the NL or Germany as much. I can't speak for all of Germany, as I'm not German, but a lot of stuff here is stone.

9:45 PM
now its really clear

user15026
Like everything, housebuilding changes depending on area

Huh. I didn't know that.

FAE
@ElfSlice It has a lot to do with cost of resources.

Makes sense

@TimStone source? a company will not take a more costly road if they can get a cheaper one

9:46 PM
@FAE @ElfSlice america has a lot of lumber because of it's surface area
Holland... doesn't

FAE
@ElfSlice In the NA, we have a ton of trees everywhere, wood is cheaper. In the Netherlands, a lot of the country was originally swamp, so there's lots of silt and clay here, so lots of stuff was baked into bricks for houses.

I bet if you go to signapore most floors will be stone as well =p

Makes sense.

@FAE it is the same here
but more modern house use premade modules
like ikea
i am not sure if wood or stone
but we dont have tornados so...

@Wandang Well, that's the thought of it, that utility companies in the US take the cheaper option of putting cables on poles and just hope they don't have to repair anything due to disaster damage, which makes things worse when weather-related incidents do happen.
I'll try to remember where I read about this though, it was a while ago.

9:48 PM
@Fluttershy Moon was excellent

@TimStone so on average it is in fact cheaper ok

Electrical lines around here are underground.

my old home was self build

@TimStone every disaster due to natural causes in america ever?

redneck style if you will
it was 140 years old

9:49 PM
The internet cables are magic, I believe.

@KevinvanderVelden I meant the specific issue of pricing, but. :P

@Unionhawk magic and magnets

All invented by Al Gore during his presidential campaign, yes.

we used mainly woods and stone

FAE
@ElfSlice In the Netherlands, they have to do this thing called "heien" (did I spell that right, @Kevin?), where they pound these huge cement pillars into the ground before they can build buildings somewhere because the ground here is so soft in some places. There's no bedrock.

9:50 PM
or my ancestors at least

@FAE That's pretty cool.

@FAE jup, heien and they can also be wood or steel

FAE
@ElfSlice It's really loud.

@FAE yeah you need a solid foundation
but i like @ElfSlice

9:51 PM
@FAE Do they just like hammer them through the ground like giant nails? Or do they dig out a hole first.

FAE
They use this huge... I don't even know what they call the machine that does it, but it just is a huge machine that just pounds these things into the ground all day. Ka-thunk, ka-thunk, ka-thunk...

@ElfSlice Moon is very good. Glad you liked it!

@Fluttershy I might watch it again.

It's pretty awesome, they basically winch up a giant hammer and release it :D

FAE
@KevinvanderVelden Is there a name for this? I've never known it if so.
@ElfSlice Honestly, I'm not sure, ask @Kevin.

9:52 PM
I think the copy I torrented had surround sound or something because the audio was a little janky, but I got most of the dialogue

@FAE heistelling (according to wiki)

@ElfSlice because the next time he will say all buildings are mad from paper like this one:
or this

They built a new movietheatre nearby with styrofoam moulds, which was interesting. Of course then someone using an electrical torch set some of it on fire and they had to call the fire department mid-construction, so...

@ElfSlice I think they dig out a hole partway to put it stable and then hammer it down

user15026
9:52 PM
@FAE Looks like a giant post-driver. :) (I have seen smaller versions for fence posts and junk)

FAE
@ElfSlice May have had 5.1, that means the dialogue would be coming out of the center speaker most of the time, and if you don't have one, you'll lose some.
@AshleyNunn Yeah, that's pretty much it. The sound is like... unbearable though.

@KevinvanderVelden Hey, I actually did work related to this thing.

That's what they have to do in Florida for an in-ground pool... >_>

user15026
@FAE I can imagine - the well digger thing my parents had when their well went dry and we had to dig a new one was a repeated thunk-thunk-thunk thingie for what felt like forever

in germany every house gets a foundation by cutting away a few cm of the ground
and putting cement in

9:54 PM
Wow, Sanctum 2 has some sweet Steam profile backgrounds.

@Wandang That's usually how it's done, however, the way I understand it, in some places, stuff will literally lift out of the ground without additional, deeper support.

Holy fuck, we build those things to use steam power
Steam power is awesome and everything should be steampunk!

user15026
I remember as a kid helping my dad redo part of the house foundation - we had to jack the house up and stuff, and it was insane. We make a really awesome stone/concrete foundation for that part.

@Wandang Broke link

9:55 PM
@KevinvanderVelden Tryin' to put my line of work out of business, are ye? shakes fist

@ElfSlice open in incognito

completely made from paper

@KevinvanderVelden Oh.

@Unionhawk I'm a programmer, it's my job to put people out of business

@KevinvanderVelden !

9:56 PM
@ElfSlice it's still broken, but it does a basic referrer checking and refusing to load cause it's from the wrong website, open in incognito breaks that check and the image works :)

Also how does typing?

@KevinvanderVelden thats why i would put while(1==2) into your code b4 i go

@KevinvanderVelden SPeaking of which, I got those little pumps the other day. I should test them

@OrigamiRobot nice
I should hook up my 3d printer and start printing some parts for my case

:O
I wish I had a 3D printer!

9:58 PM
print a penicorn pls!

@OrigamiRobot 3d printers are awesome!

@Wandang while true do print "SCREW YOU GUYS I'M LEAVING" end

@Unionhawk that would be to obvious and easy to find

Wow, these pumps are really tiny

while(123214151 == 382137857) would take ages

9:59 PM
@Wandang "#define while if" in some random C header file

or do it in style
