I really do hate it when people try to guess why I've down/close voted something. 99 times out of 100, they claim it's because the question is 'speculative' or 'opinion based' that I've cast my vote. 98 times out of that 99, they are wrong, and it's because the askers ability to communicate in english resembles that of a four year old, and clarity is an under-valued thing here on Stack Exchange at times.

And before you start in on the "ENGLISH ISN'T EVERYBODY'S FIRST LANGUAGE" bullshit, I get that, but the fact of the matter is, that there are patterns of 'speech' that are used by English Language Learners when trying to communicate in english - sets of syntax and poor word substitutions that are clear tells and which I hold against nobody. Someone whose native language is Urdu does not suddenly start typing like an American 9 year old when they've finished a year or two of english studies.

We use English because most people in the world use English. That way, SE can reach the most people and be clear to as many people as possible. If your English isn't clear, then you aren't going to be able to communicate internationally.

And I can bet you almost anything that any future international partners you have aren't going to be nearly as forgiving as you would like them to be.

The point is, there are mistakes someone who doesn't speak english natively makes, like misconjugating verbs or using the wrong synonym. I don't care about those mistakes. I care about being able to understand the intention of what you are trying to communicate.
