After reviewing some user's first answers, occasionally I'll come across that flat-out insult or slur that I know they'll most likely have their account deactivated. After that user is banned, they'll have that greyed-out avatar: Do I get reputation back from any of their posts that I downvote...

@Fluttershy Clearly, I take care of quality control at my own discretion so I didn't bring that up - kind of hurt that you think I wouldn't know this much. The only thing I found curious about it was that it was an answer to addendum another already-accepted answer and consequently will likely itself never get accepted. Both answers contain mutually exclusive useful information, but there's a dependency for completeness. I was just asking if there is a policy for this.

@Fluttershy I'm kind of literal. "Not an issue" and "take no action" are not the same thing to me. Something can be not an issue, but benefit from editing to better adhere to policies because, while not wrong (an issue), there's a process described in policy to make it better. Different wording would have prevented confusion.

I see. Well, currently, multiple answers are fine as long as they aren't duplicate answers/stolen from someone else's answer. I don't really think there's any policy in place other than that it has to meet the usual answer-y stuff!

@Fluttershy That's how sequels are. In and of themselves, they aren't inherently lacking because they are sequels, but they seldom present something new so they seem lesser because it's something we've already seen.

Q: Eve Online + Wine: Offline mode

I've freshly installed EVE Online, build 590158. After installation, when launched, the launcher says - "Offline mode", couldn't connect, etc. etc. What's wrong? This is the Wine console log:

They can do more because they have the body of previous works to depend on so they need less exposition time, but that often leads to undeveloped initiating incident and conflict. Also, because character arcs are often written self-contained to one work, the character often has nowhere left to go in the sequels - This is often solved with new/different characters with new arcs, but characters from previous entries are usually left 2-dimensional in sequels.

It really only works if it was planned as a series beforehand or each entry is essentially a fresh start.

And I'm fairly certain those few people are limited to the big-wigs at NCsoft - Paragon Studios was caught as unprepared for that turn of events as the players were. They were actively developing the next update, which was in closed (or was it open?) beta at the time.

Q: How to determine correct engine to steal on Big Oil: Day 2

On day 2 of the Big Oil heist the crew is required to steal a fusion engine prototype. In the facility there are multiple prototypes, how do I determine which engine to take as it is time consuming to check each and every one of them.

As best as anyone can determine, because City of Heroes was a non-entity in Korea (despite some efforts, it just never took off), it was early on the chopping blocks in the company's restructuring to focus more on their local market. While CoH was (by all accounts the playerbase had) profitable, it was still a very minor earner compared to other NCsoft titles.

Also, Paragon Studios was also reportedly working on some other top secret project - so it could be that since this new project wasn't complete and earning returns, in the books, paragon was taking in more money than the investment was returning.

As far as efforts to save CoH, while there were certainly many offers - none managed to meet whatever undisclosed criteria NCsoft wanted (and some offers were reportedly quite generous). And there are also theories that the cultural differences may have had some impact; If NC had sold, and the game did well, it would make NCsoft look foolish.

There are still some 'efforts' to resurrect CoH, but last I heard it was more or less fragmented into two camps - both trying to build something from scratch to replace what we had.

There's also a cobbled togeather mod that let's you run CoH locally to play with the costume editor, if you still have the 'latest' CoH (live or beta) build installed, but I can't seem to find it, should be on the Titan Network somewhere

Q: how can we add recoil to spectating mode?

Recoil is removed in spec. mode. But in some big organization (e.g. Techlabs at yesterday) they stream from source with actual recoil ingame. But normally when you spectate or watch a demo there is no recoil at all. so I belive there is a command for this.

Q: Does a flash drive give better performance than a hard drive for games on a Xbox 360?

Since you can install games on a flash drive on an Xbox 360, and flash drives generally have faster random reads than hard drives, would it give Xbox 360 games better performance by installing them to a (fast) flash drive instead of the traditional mechanical hard drive?

@badp Oh. Yes if I have time, I can art one up like nothing and even use my animation chops to make it a gif and all, but my vision clearly had live action (I think that holds more irony in this instance). I did consider photoshopping it from various Frankenstein parts on the internets, but crappy resources and an apparent amount of effort incline me towards doing something more productive with my time.

@badp If I were a female, this question would be much more fun.

I was mostly mentioning my surprise that this hasn't already been done. The caption even writes itself, "Come on over. I'm throwing a barbecue."

@badp I was just thinking the flash style lends them to easier depiction, and there's a lot of pony content out there so I probably won't have to create much more than the barbecue and do some light compositing.

I'm actually going to go do stuff with zombies right now. I'm not feeling very productive after this many hours of work and I'm out of shows to watch for the moment.
