i think part of it is "first love", another part is more mainstreaming in later editions. but morrowind had this chaotic element to it. it didn't scale to your level necessarily. you really could find monsters that would obliterate you when you were level 1. not just scary level 3 monsters.

problem with the more recent bethesda games is i go do all the side quests, end up pretty much maxing out my skills and get best gear. then the fun factor drops significantly and i never finish the main quests.

My problem with oblivion was the enviornments. You leave the sewer and there's a lovely green plain. Then you go to the next town and it's still a lovely green plain. Then you're 10 hours in and everything outside is still pretty much the same green texture

Morrowind had that crazy variety that made it feel really big

one of morrowind's strengths was this idea that there could still be better gear out there. it felt more randomly generated. more chaotically generated

For TES 6, the 3 main things they should improve: 1) Remove fast travel and go back to a system like Morrowind. 2) Make combat not suck please. 3) No enemy scaling.

I want threats I am not strong enough to face and have to run from when I'm low level, and I should be able to go into a bandit camp and slaughter them when I'm high level.

Of which neither existed in Snowcrash.

It was, however, full of cyberpunk tropes.

It may have invented a bunch, but that in itself isn't really worth anything.

In any case, I am not offended that you enjoyed a book that I did not enjoy.
