I also played Aion. I found it to be overly grindy.
I have played other asian MMOs like that, but Aion felt like the pulled the rug out. In the early game, there were lots of quests. By the mid-game, they slowed to a trickle, and with levels taking longer, they felt like a waste of time. Hooray, I just spent 45 minutes on a quest that netted me 1% of a level...
Too bad, because it had a lot of fun aspects. I love the castle attack/defense game. I haven't seen it done that well since Ragnarok.
@FallenAngelEyes Did the lag ever improve in the fortress battles? It was really bad sometimes when I was playing. (But fun enough that I still did it.)
I haven't played Aion. I thought about it, but my friends who tried Aion had already moved back to WoW by the time Aion went on sale on Steam for the first time.
I frequently begin the game thinking "Ah, I'd like to try a caster, but casters are always a lot of work. I'll roll a warrior (or equivalent) for now, just to get a feel for the game."
Then 80 levels later I think, "Gee, I'd like to start a caster"
@Powerlord Yes, but my god, why would you design a class that is required to stop playing for short intervals every couple minutes? It's massive gameplay fail.
@sjohnston Last caster I played was Warlock, which is more or less 1. Send pet in to attack. 2. Cast DoTs. 3. Cast spell. 4. Shoot wand. 5 Occasionally repeat steps 3 and 4 until dead.
Which is partly why I got into Aion, despite it being fantasy. I really liked the style. I just prefer more realistic design (which is one of the reasons I don't play WoW)
Champions pisses me off because there is only one face :|
But Champions Online only has one facial option and then sliders to customize it. And it's horribly uncanny valley so you pretty much have to make 1 face if you want it to look decent.
How far can mobs see?
I know if I have my render distance set to far then I can see mobs before they see me. Does anyone know precisely how far a mob can see?
This would be really nice to know since I could simply make sure there is water around my island that larger then what mobs can see.
CoX is one of those games that's been on my radar for a really long time, but that I've never played (short of a spat with a 7-day free trial shortly after the game launched so long ago)
I want to try it, but I don't know anyone else who plays that I can play with.
It wouldn't really be "again", I only put 2 or 3 hours into the game back in 2006 or whenever it was, and at least half of that was in the character designer.
I don't actually own the game... when I played it before, it was on a friends account... so if I were to buy it, I'd buy the complete set that included Going Rogue.
The game definitely has its flaws. The graphics feel dated, though they did do the Ultra Mode update which makes things look a lot nicer, the aforementioned relative lack of endgame, among others. But I enjoy it and I don't need to sink a lot of time into it to feel like I've accomplished something.
...Despite the fact I have over 4,000 hours logged in the game.
A lot of people feel that choosing an MMO is like choosing a life partner, as though they're stuck with it forever so it damn well better have a good endgame and pvp and all that kitchensinky stuff. I hate that outlook.
If you want a game that has no monthly subscription fees... get FF14. Or maybe I should call it FF14 paid beta, seeing as how I haven't heard that its bugs have been fixed yet.
I recently downloaded 'Blood Bowl' on Steam to my Mac, not realizing that it was not Mac-compatible. Is there any software or any way that will allow me to play it, as obviously I've already paid for it? Cheers.
I'm an 85 Discipline Priest healer specced like so. With this spec I am having fun with the tradeoff between Smite and Penance, and am having a blast in normal dungeons.
My group of friends recently became eligible for Heroics, and now I'm finding things a little tougher! In particular, we went ...
Honestly, for generics, I wish they'd at least did what .NET did: Don't try to make generic collections backward compatible, create new collections for them!
Which resulted in a half-ass way of dealing with generics in general, which I think I discussed in detail yesterday
Java recommends using the non-synchronized ones, but introduced a whole bunch of new ones that are synchronized on write only... like CopyOnWriteArrayList and ConcurrentHashMap.
@CRoss Actually, if you're accessing a collection that you'd rarely updated that's read from multiple threads, you'd probably want the newer ones. ConcurrentHashMap in particular.
Those largely replaced using Collections.synchronizedMap and crud like that.
@ArdaXi You'd be writing C# code that gets translated to Java code. Do you REALLY trust the C# to Java compiler enough to risk the wacky errors that might ensue?
However, the Architecture page implies heavily that you need the MonoDroid VM already installed on the phone for things to work. Which isn't likely to be done by default.
Chrome/Win 10.0.648.119 beta.
For some reason, if I open the developer tools and disable the .user-stats-table { overflow-x: hidden; } rule, the scrollbar disappears.
Disabling the .fr { float: right; } rule also makes the scrollbar go away, but it stays gone when I re-enable the rule.

Ooh, ouch, AMD's Fusion E-350 isn't faring well against low-end desktop PCs.
techreport.com/articles.x/20401 <-- If you want to see exactly HOW bad it did, keeping in mind that AMD says the onboard graphics for it are an ATI Radeon HD 6310.
This kind of applies to every site on the network, so I'm posting it here rather than meta.physics.SE. (Also, y'know, precious meta repz.)
This screenshot is from a user's "Accounts" tab on any given site in the network:
I would like to know what necessary steps must be taken to successfully complete a spawner that's spawns non agreesive passive mobs. Such as, cows, chickens, sheep, and swine.
"Like Firewire, the Intel-designed Thunderbolt is based on a peer-to-peer design that assigns blind trust to any device that connects through the bi-directional, dual channel interface." <-- I hope that's not true.
I'd just like to point out, @GraceNote, that since I do not have the burden of 'feelings', you're welcome to dagger me if you want to talk to me. It's better than derailing half a year old discussion threads.
For the achievement in Call of Duty: Black Ops:
The Collector - In Zombie mode, buy every weapon off the walls in a single game.
I am wondering if it can be unlocked collectively as a group buying all of the weapons or do you have to buy them all on your own (as 1 player).
It would make a ...
> Slime is only client side, other players in SMP will not see the slime that is following you. This slime will not damage you but will knock you around, and can get in the way of minecarts to the bafflement of your smp friends. (possibly not a bug - might be simulating schizophrenia)
Today, I got the game Just Dance 2 and after I inserted the disc into the Wii machine, it said something about updating so I updated it. Afterwards when I tried the game, it didn't even let me into the game, what should I do?
Back in the early 90's I used to play this cool ninja platformer on the PC. You basically ran around killing enemies, with a sword if I remember correctly. Every now and then you would collect stars that you could use to kill enemies as well. What I do remember well is that the backgrounds were q...
I was out exploring and I ran into an area where all the trees were burning--the leaves were gone, it was trunk pieces that will never burn up.
Now, I have had a wildfire get out of hand some time ago but I don't think it burned anywhere near this area and there are plenty of unburned trees betw...
