Q: Is jumping in snow piles the same as throwing snowballs?

Ashley NunnI got the recent update for Snoopy's Street Fair, and the goal that used to be "jump in 50 leaf piles" changed to "jump in 50 snow piles". I figured it would work like the leaf piles - tap them, Snoopy runs over, and hops in. Simple enough. However, when I tap the snow piles, Snoopy runs over, ...

I mean, yeah, I get to skip any 20 dark world levels... but...

@badp Why would you?

@GnomeSlice To get meat girl back! ASAP!

@badp Plenty of them are quite easy. Shouldn't take too long to finish some of them.
Now those warp zones ... they are insane.

now that I look at it... 15 of those 17 dark world levels I've completed are from world 1.

@badp Don't you mean Band-aid girl?

back when I thought a 100% completion was possible for me
@GnomeSlice well, yes, her.

@badp Did you ever try the flash game?

I'm not much for punishing video games. If I wanted to pay money to be be beaten and punished in my relaxation time, I'd... well.. let's just say there are other ways to accomplish that goal.

I don't think so.

4:05 PM
You should. It's good practice. I got 100% completion on it.

@agent86 There's punishing and punishing. SMB has a reputation for being punishing, but it really isn't
at least, it's not if you stop playing at the light world boss. Dunno what's after it

@agent86 I imagine the point is to not be punished, haha. ♪

Basically the game asks you to play for 15-20 seconds near perfectly, then move to the next 15-20 seconds.
Most of the time, the perfect fastest run is also the easiest one too.

N and N+ are much more difficult.

@agent86 Quiet, you.
@Powerlord I can't see an similarities at all between the two. Other than that they both won game of the year in different categories on Gamespot.

@GnomeSlice You can be a masochist if you want to. As for me, I don't want to.
@GnomeSlice They're both punishingly difficult.

@Powerlord Was intended for not you.

4:10 PM
The point of SMB is not masochism. It's not about enjoying the difficulty. It's about enjoying the overcoming of difficulty.

I enjoy the difficulty too.

The moment when you throw your fists in the air in triumph.

@badp Great. I have about 100 other games on my pending list.

@badp Isn't the same to be said of all of these things people are (apparently) finding difficult?

Also, for me, TF2 is masochism.

4:10 PM
more power to you both. Just not my cuppa tea.

@badp Yeah that game was brutal.

@GraceNote I'm just saying it's not the same as masochism, which is the enjoyment of being punished by the difficulty, or, in other words, the enjoyment of failure.

The primary enjoyment of failure is moreso of the "Oh, hey, that was stupid, let's try that again", which is indeed very different from masochism.

You might find that in N+, with its spectacular deaths, in a way
"Let's see just how many bombs I can trigger in a single death!"

@badp I love doing that.

besides, if Powerlord didn't enjoy difficulty and challenges, he wouldn't be using the YER as much.

As usual, extra credits have discussed the topic already.

just to clarify, I'm not saying you enjoy failure; perhaps your tolerance is higher than mine is for it. I think as my free time shrinks I'm getting more and more interested in games where the enjoyment is highly concentrated.

It's just too much work.

for instance, I probably played final fantasy 1 a dozen times in my history, but now, any game that takes that much grinding is just irritating to me. I guess part of it is "looking for new experiences" and part of it is "my tastes are changing" and another part is "annoy me less, games, please"
if you're having fun with a game though, then awesome.
for some reason I'm still enjoying dungeons of dredmor though, I might just have a soft spot for roguelikes. I do turn off permadeath.

@agent86 I guess in the end, part of the trick is to just not fail. Or at least not as often.

@GraceNote or not get as frustrated when I do. if only they were all things I could control :)

@Powerlord Have you played N or N+?

@Powerlord Admittedly no, but I have played N as well as several other platformers which others might call "hard". I don't imagine it'd take me long to beat it if I put my effort into it.

@Powerlord They're much more punishing.

I've accepted that there are things I'm good at, and things I'm not, and changing what's in the second category takes time and effort, which I don't always have.

I didn't find Super Meat Boy as bad as others made it out to be

I feel like I played a N game at one point, and found it moderately amusing. I'll probably get super meat boy at some point (the price point will be right) and I'll invest a few hours in it perhaps.
