...the next champion for League of Legends is going to be an armoured bear.

What's even more amusing is that they "fixed" what, from the viewpoint of their customers, wasn't even broke. After all, it was the same DRM implementation they used in Fallout 3. :)

@GraceNote Iorek :D?
though that didn't specify "polar"

Iowhat?

The following is a list of both main and minor characters from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. Main characters The information about each character on the following list does not identify the literary characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Paradise Lost that these characters symbolize in the allegories hidden in Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. Ah
Well, it is white, but it appears to roar lightning.

1:03 PM
Iiiinteresting

Which I think is absent in your normal polar bear

Maybe it's a well kept secret!

Hah, and funny enough, just reached a comment in the thread saying "Haha, this guy's based on Iorek, innit?"

@MartinSojka FO3 used GFWL. And was Awful.
@GraceNote OKKU?

1:06 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz Just how many armored lightning bears are there!?

@LessPop_MoreFizz ... optionally. I just patched it out. Also, it didn't use GFWL for DRM, it used Securom, but only on the launcher, not on fallout3.exe.

> FYI a Great Gatsby would never support armored bears.

@GraceNote As somebody from a few minutes south of Gatsby's house, I agree with this comment.

Hehe

I went to West Egg South High School basically.
Except replace West Egg with the towns real name.

1:08 PM
Hah, interesting

The actual Gatsby house got sold and torn down recently. :(

@GraceNote Interestingly, MtG seems to have no armoured bears so far. Though Runeclaw Bear is at least armed.

@MartinSojka That's actually surprising to me
@LessPop_MoreFizz Aw...

@GraceNote They're building 5 new mcmansions on the property. :(

McMansion?

1:10 PM
The owner didn't want to, but the building was condemned and there was no reasonable way to keep it standing. :(
McMansion is a pejorative term for a large new house which is judged as pretentious, tasteless, or badly designed for its neighborhood. Alternately, a McMansion is a large house in a sub-division of similarly large houses, which all seem mass produced and lacking distinguishing characteristics, and at variance with established local architecture. The "stunt word" McMansion seems to have been coined some time in the early 1980s. It later appeared in the Los Angeles Times in 1990 and the New York Times in 1998. Other terms applied to this type of dwelling include "Persian palace," "garag...

Eeesh "Progress"

@LessPop_MoreFizz I did not really enjoy that book. I know it's an "American classic" and all but it was not to my taste

Uf...

@LessPop_MoreFizz This does suck though

But I don't want a McMansion, I want a condemned building!

1:12 PM
Holy crap, a metal medley of Shadow of the Colossus music

@GraceNote Alternately, around here that word often gets used to refer to this place, which is near me and kind of hilarious:

(Yes, that is the McDonalds closest to where I live.)

@LessPop_MoreFizz pfffffffft, whaaaaat

IT'S A DOUBLE MAC MANSION!!!

1:13 PM
@FallenAngelEyes McD's bought the building, wanted to tear it down, local historical society intervened and managed to get it landmark status. McD's said fuck it and gutted the inside and built a McDonalds in an old colonial mansion.

Hm, TOR beta NDA lifted

I see I see

@LessPop_MoreFizz That's... tenacious

@LessPop_MoreFizz This totally can't be real

1:17 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz say WHAT NOW!?!?!?

@RedriderX more photos, including interior on that yelp page
it's legit.

I'm glad i don't live in America
Amazing

That's the historical society for you.

Wait I just thought of something... shouldn't we be talking about games or something?

Q: How do I use the "Investor" perk?

Mr SmoothSo I just purchased the investor (Speech) perk, and I'm wondering how to use it. Specifically, I'm trying to invest in one of my fences, and I see no additional options. How do I use my perk, and is it possible to invest in a fence?

1:21 PM
Well, the Great Gatsby game isn't much to talk about.

@GraceNote But it's awesome.

@Lazers NOT SKYRIM!!!

@RedriderX Always Skyrim.
And on that note, I'm off to work.

@LessPop_MoreFizz NEVER SKYRIM!!!
BYE

Later @LessPop

1:23 PM
Need to go to the market to buy cheese, later all

1:35 PM
Is an answer with just a video fine? Not sure if I should flag this or not... gaming.stackexchange.com/q/37829/4239

Ideally it should have context and content that explains what is in the video.

2:01 PM
When did that site rooms button get added?

2:23 PM
@RonanForman First time I notice it, so probably today

Yes, it was added today. It's excellent

What I'd like would be for chat to always log me into my favorite rooms automatically
I often have 2 chat windows open, so I don't get the button to log into all favorites

2:40 PM
I... I think I got hit on on my way home from grocery shopping
@Fabian Oooh that's what causes the button not to appear?

@FallenAngelEyes By a car? Mugger? Bike?

@FallenAngelEyes If you're logged into more than one room, it doesn't appear

@RonanForman Not hit, that would've sucked considerably more
Though this was already awkward

Oh, I didn't notice the on on

@RonanForman British term is uh, pulling, I think?

2:44 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Were robes and wizard hats involved?

@FallenAngelEyes No, I'm fine with hit on. But repeated words are annoying.

He stopped me with "Hey, I've seen you before!" which made me pause because I don't go out a whole lot
@RonanForman Yeah, our brains tend not to parse them, I understand the annoyance
He was probably like, late 30's early 40's I think, he was bald, though maybe shaven bald, said he was from Egypt and asked if I was Hindu
then asked if I was married or had kids
When I said yes I was married and no, I didn't have kids, he asked why and when I said I was only 27 he looked really surprised, so I think he thought I was older than I actually am
(Dutch doesn't have a separate word for "boyfriend" and "friend," they're both the same word, so to make it easier, I usually just say I have a husband because that word is different)

@FallenAngelEyes "People after sex change can't usually have kids, you know ..."

@MartinSojka Er, if your implication is that male-to-female transsexuals are gross or weird enough to use as a turn-down method, I find that rather offensive

@FallenAngelEyes He's implying people think that, that may or may not be his opinion.

2:52 PM
@FallenAngelEyes It might be offensive, but it works.

@RonanForman While that may be the case, the perpetuation of such ideas even in a supposedly harmless or joking manner is still transphobic

Q: Where do I go to purchase unlocked characters?

Jason BerkanIn LEGO: Harry Potter Years 5-7, where in the Diagon Alley area to you go to purchase unlocked characters? I have only been able to find the store where you purchase new spells and the location in the bar where you can view movies and purchase unlockable red bricks.

@LessPop_MoreFizz wat.

I've had a few trans and genderqueer SOs, as well as several friends, so joking about the subject isn't something I tend to take very lightly.

I have a few as well. Most of the dirtiest jokes on that matter I have from them.

2:56 PM
@MartinSojka And in some places, that statement may also get me beaten to death, so uh, nothx

@FallenAngelEyes WTH, in the Netherlands? Seriously? o_O

@MartinSojka Prooobably not here? I hope? But one of my MtF friends lived in Tennessee in the US for a while. Things did not go well for her there.

@FallenAngelEyes bible belt USA not exactly the most welcoming area for that sort of thing, although I will say that getting beaten to death is still a bit on the 'unlikely' side.

Yay Sequence patched in running at higher resolutions

So, about that.... (lets see... TF2? No, not enough interested people) Skyward Sword game.

3:01 PM
@agent86 I don't care to go into more detail about what happened to her, but suffice it to say, it's still a very real fear and not a completely unfounded one.

@FallenAngelEyes you don't have to tell me; you might say as someone who lives in Texas and has relationships with people like that, I can say I understand.

Anyone think I should ask a question asking what the different shields and their weaknesses are for Skyward Sword?

@Powerlord why. not.

@agent86 The conclusion here is "people suck" :(

@FallenAngelEyes I will concur, good sir.

3:02 PM
@Powerlord I'd call that a very valid question

or madam. sorry to assume.

@agent86 madam in this case!

@FallenAngelEyes, where in the Netherlands in general? I visited Delft earlier this year on business, and I have some other acquaintances in the country who like to game as well.

Though I sometimes play fast and loose with my gender identity, I mostly identify as a cisgendered female
@agent86 In Delft!
I'm an American who moved here
so not technically a Dutchie
@ArdaXi is a Dutchie though
and @badp's currently here for university for a bit

man, a lot of dutch gamers for some reason. I think it's the most common nationality I encounter after American and perhaps British.
@FallenAngelEyes cisgendered is a new word for me. VOCABULARY LEVEL UP

3:06 PM
@agent86 That statement is going to piss off the Canadians here.

@Powerlord wait, what? you can piss of a Canadian? That's possible? :O

@agent86 Haha, woo!
@agent86 You can make them want to write a stern letter

@FallenAngelEyes I was only in Delft for a couple of days, and it was bitterly cold wintertime, but I enjoyed the visit. After that I got to go to Linkoping, Sweden (sorry, keyboard doesn't have the cool o character, I mean no disrespect to the Swedish)

If you piss off their country enough, they may attack your country with their plane and submarine!

those kind of trips are always better in retrospect; not fun while you're taking them, but fun to remember.
@FallenAngelEyes I will be cautiously watching my mailbox.

3:09 PM
@agent86 Winter 2010-11 and winter 2009-2010 were abnormally harsh winters here. 2009 was the first time they had significant snowfall here in 10 years.
@agent86 Yeah, I imagine it probably depends on what kind of business trip it is.

@Powerlord So that's a flying squirrel and tuna in Canadian currency.

@RonanForman Ssh, don't give away military secrets!

@RonanForman probably a vicious tuna though. With beady eyes.
@FallenAngelEyes Yikes. Well, I got to feel it. I had some good food though, European cream cheese is good, I wish we had something similar here. I also exported a fair amount of stroopwafel, which my wife is now addicted to.

> I swear it has to go like this. Day 1: We are in favor of this bill. Day 2: Hey lets read the bill. Day 3: We are no longer in favor of this bill.
I just saw that about the BSA's position change on SOPA.

@agent86 Hahaha, tasty aren't they? Did you try poffertjes?
@Powerlord BSA?

3:13 PM
@FallenAngelEyes I did not, what're they like? I did get some cookie paste and some of those little chocolate sprinkles. that was also a hit with the fam.

@FallenAngelEyes Business Software Alliance.

@FallenAngelEyes business software alliance I think. they fight commercial piracy.
ie, your business doesn't have a license to photoshop, they come and get angry and fine you.

The BSA and ESA are sister organizations, one for business software, the other for games. BSA has members like Microsoft, Symantec, etc...

@Powerlord Aaah, gotcha
@agent86 They're sort of like silver dollar pancakes only actually the size of a silver dollar. The dough is also much sweeter. Usually served with some butter and powdered sugar.
If you get them fresh, they are delicious

3:16 PM
> (BSA) " Wait a minute ... if people can't download software illegally and install it... then we can't entice disgruntled employees to call our hotlines so we can go in and bust these companies with licensing fines. Holy Crap, our whole business model will be ruined! FFFFUUUUU"

Oh hey, there is an article on them on the English wikipedia

These comments are great. :D

Poffertjes () are a traditional Dutch batter treat. Resembling small, fluffy pancakes, they are made with yeast and buckwheat flour. Unlike American pancakes, they have a light, spongey texture. Typically, poffertjes are served with powdered sugar and butter. Mainly in the colder seasons, temporary stands selling poffertjes are quite popular, and sell portions containing one or two dozen of them. Sometimes the cook prepares them freshly for you. They are sold on a small cardboard (sometimes plastic) plate and come with a small disposable fork the size of a pastry fork. Poffertjes are not ...

@FallenAngelEyes oooh, no, that sounds good though.

They're so good

3:17 PM
I think I saw one of those carts while I was there, the smell was awesome.

And yeah, the texture is lighter than American-style pancakes
Hehe :D

I did go to the 'famous' chocolate place while I was there, I can't remember the name though

If you like sweet things, the NL is great
(I don't have much of a sweet tooth, personally)
They still have candy stores here!

I successfully resisted any Delftware tchochkies (probably spelling that wrong but spell check is bugging out on it)

@agent86 I love how you can stand in the middle of our central market in town and look left to see "Delft's biggest souvenir store" and then look right to see another store claiming the same
This should likely be closed, as all we can do is speculate on the answer:
1
Q: Will content from the "Professor Genki's Hyper Ordinary Pre-Order Bonus" eventually become available as DLC?

jsnlxndrlvWill content from the "Professor Genki's Hyper Ordinary Pre-Order Bonus" eventually become available for purchase as downloadable content?

There's been no announcement from Volition or THQ at this point, so the most we could give is a "maybe?"

3:21 PM
@FallenAngelEyes I think I said as much, and I think I flagged the Q as well.
yep I did, and the flag was 'helpful'
man, yesterday I was NOT paying attention and ended up leaving work an hour late

Oops D:
Man, I think I've flagged more things as "not an answer" on Skyrim questions in the past week than I have since the site opened
Also @badp this is a really random question, but can you place Kate's accent in Hydrophobia? I was trying to place it and am failing
One of my boyfriends said he thought it was Welsh, from what he could hear

@FallenAngelEyes if you think skyrim is bad, you should try MW3. People love to hate on it.

@FallenAngelEyes You'd have to ask an English native speaker, sorry
I didn't pick up any particular accent, except the obviously british one of Scoot.
(right?)

Scoot didn't sound particularly British to me, hrm. Maybe I just overlooked it in trying to figure out Kate's.
Admittedly, I've played very little so far, but dang that game is pretty

Hrm. There is no GnomeSlice in these parts

3:34 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Link?

@badp Scoot sounds American to me
@RonanForman Uuuh lemme see if I can find a youtube link with a good example

@FallenAngelEyes Well, I told you to not ask me questions about accents :P

Scoot never struck me as being a particularly American thing
Skootch, however...

@FallenAngelEyes I know most of the north american english accents, but the various british ones are lost on me. I'm confused whenever they bring it up as a plot point in Doctor Who
@GraceNote I think Scoot is the character's name? I could be wrong though.

3:36 PM
@agent86 When have they done that?

Oh, oh, person named Scoot. Whoops

Yeah, that's the character's name

@RonanForman I think Rose and Eccelson Doc joked about it a one point "You sound like you come from the North." "Lots of planets have a North"

I'd speak against the practice if I weren't terribly horribly guilty of the very same practice.

3:38 PM
@agent86 Northern accent is quite noticeable though.

@agent86 Oh yeah, back in eccles cake's series

It's also really noticeable in episode 2 of season 2 when David switches from Estuary to Scottish.

@ArdaXi Not really to me :P Like I said, I can tell the north american accents apart, but British all sound the same to me

And to me, North American accents sound all the same.

3:39 PM
@ArdaXi I'd imagine so.

I hope you don't think I sound like a Texan. That would be just odd

I think it's one of those things, people have trouble telling facial features apart on other races as well.

(Bostonian would also be false, fer the record)

3:40 PM
@agent86 I find it interesting that I'm mistaken for different races here in the NL than I am in America

@FallenAngelEyes I don't really reconise them as any accent, so I assume it's from the midland (that's where I'm from).
Maybe a bit south.

in America, people tend to guess Eastern Asia (China, Japan, Korea, the latter of which is correct) and here I mostly get Middle Eastern (Moroccan, Persian, though Indian now)

@GraceNote I've never heard you speak, so I can't say. I actually mix three - I grew up on the east coast, spent time on the west coast, and settled in texas. My accent shifts during sentences sometimes :)

I can see why your boyf would say Welsh though.

@RonanForman Ah okay, thanks. The way she pronounces certain vowels makes it different from yours a bit, I thought. I'm very, very poor at placing UK accents.

3:43 PM
@agent86 But to you, you know the different North American accents, though, neh?

@GraceNote I'd say for the most part. I wouldn't want to take a test on it; but in general I can at least place the region.

@FallenAngelEyes Hmm. I hear quite a bit of T glottalization in Kate.

@FallenAngelEyes British accents are getting much less distinct these days. They sort of get merged. And my accent isn't very typical of where I live.

@ArdaXi T glottalization sounds like either a) something you'd have to pay extra for or b) some serious disease you'd catch from a)

@agent86 T glottalization means not pronouncing your t's.

3:45 PM
@agent86 It's the making of certain Ts more of a silent stopper thing. I actually do it myself.

@ArdaXi Yeah, which I don't think @Ronan does much, iirc.

Replacing them with a glottal stop.

I know, I know, joke intended guys :P

@RonanForman Ah, okay. Is that because of classism decreasing?

@GraceNote Southern US, Brooklyn, Northern US, Mexican, and Canadian? :P

3:46 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Nah, but people are moving about much more and so they're picking up more accents.

@RonanForman Gotcha

@Powerlord I think "valley" and "southerner" need a better distinction

Kate's definitely British, judging by that video.

@GraceNote As if! That's, like, SO not happening.

@agent86 lmao, I haven't heard someone say "as if" in so long XD
...not that I missed it at all
I have a tendency to say 'y'all" because my childhood best friend's mother was from Texas

Q: Is there a web-embeddable skin preview application?

GnomeSliceSo, I'm working on a website for my Minecraft server, and we're looking at creating pages for each of the admins/mods, with some info about them. I'm trying to find a way that I can embed a 'skin preview' of each player's skin onto their respective pages. I suppose we could also just use screen...

@FallenAngelEyes I have a tough time with that as well. It's a word missing from English. Around here they say "y'all" for singular, and "all y'all" for plural. Where I grew up, it was "youse"

Does anyone else get a weird link when they try to get the link to Ben Blake's answer?

@agent86 It's so much shorter than saying "all you people" so I go for that instead, hehe

@RonanForman Judging by that video I wouldn't really place Kate that Northern.

3:52 PM
are y'all comin' tonite? oh, you're bringin' the kids too? then we'll see all y'all at 6.

@ArdaXi Welsh =/= Nothern

@agent86 How about yinz? ♪

I think Kate's accent is forgetful british, as in - the voice actress keeps forgetting she's supposed to be doing an accent

I say y'all myself, but that's because I find it convenient. And it rolls off the tongue. ♪

@agent86 I see...I can't use that as a link for converting things to a comment, weird.

@GraceNote wow, yinz is new to me. where's that from?

@agent86 Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh, specifically, apparently.

@GraceNote Huh, really? Gonna have to ask my friends who live there if they've heard it

@GraceNote Hmm. Lots of family from the Philly area, but I've never heard it. I believe it though. My mother didn't belive me when I said my grandmother said "youse" but she later heard her use it.
