d'aww

scary.

How little?

Well, I promoted her to "Little Sister" last night because she's very sweet and always makes me smile because she tries to be helpful in the way only a 10 year old can be. But it's still bothersome. And her profile is closed + her picture makes her look like she's 20, so my girlfriend will be suspicious.

so she's 10?

yes.

10:04 PM
COPPA?

COPPA?

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) is a United States federal law, located at (). The act, effective April 21, 2000, applies to the online collection of personal information by persons or entities under U.S. jurisdiction from children under 13 years of age. It details what a website operator must include in a privacy policy, when and how to seek verifiable consent from a parent or guardian, and what responsibilities an operator has to protect children's privacy and safety online including restrictions on the marketing to those under 13. While children under 13 ...

She is related to me. I'm also friends with her entire family on fb

I invited McKay to chat

a ten year old using facebook is in violation of the T&C

10:09 PM
She has parental permission and supervision

Doesn't he just have to have adult consent? or supervision or something?

she

@alexanderpas you're allowed to with parental permission
which is complicated in the US though

Facebook Statement of Rights and Responsibilities - 4.5: You will not use Facebook if you are under 13.
seems pretty clear-cut to me.

that's lazy

That's also not a legal statement. you cannot place legal contracts on minors that don't have parental responsibility

no, the contract can't be closed, therefor, they can't use facebook, as it requires acceptance of contract. (catch-22)

that's not really a catch-22
then again, depends on how you look at it

Uh oh
Another legal battle?

Hello

10:26 PM
Hi

I may not be very responsive here, but I'm here for the time being.

Yo

ping @ArdaXi

welcome
I think we killed it

Is that a stackexchange or a Open-source one?

10:29 PM
I think it's from when you could pay for SO sites

It's running StackExchange 0.9 (20100413135304-37b86aed49ad)

So, if I play WoW, do I count for the Gaming SE?

absolutely

23 questions tagged [wow]

what if I played it for 20 hours a day?

10:33 PM
that would make you an expert! (probaly)

but I'm only a level 16

that means you're playing for 1 day ;)

No. I've played 20 hours a day for 5 years.

and you're only level 16?

Actually, I've played off and on for 5 years
I have like 9-11 characters. 1 has hit 80

10:35 PM
Well, answer WoW related questions.

on to level 85 it is soon.

80 Death Knight. 71 Shammy. 56 Paladin, 42 Druid, 42 Rogue, etc

lol

see, expert enough.

@McKay If you're unable to verify an answer of are unsure, it is usually better to refrain answering. Also, don't edit questions on a hunch, only edit questions if you are very certain.

Very certain?

yes, because edits will replace the original content, if you are even just a bit uncertain about your edits, don't edit.

On edits? Fair enough.
I do recall a bad edit I made, is that what this is about?

I got pinged?

I think you got pinged because I'm here.

10:42 PM
oh
well, the only thing I have to remark is that you edit too quickly, for example the MW2 question you edited

We've had to rollback a number of your edits, due to the low quality of those edits.

you edited 'playlist' to 'play type' for some reason

Which one?

the most important rule is: if you don't know the register involved in a question, don't edit it

Q: Where can I find serious teammates in Modern Warfare 2?

Luc MI began to play to Modern Warfare 2 three weeks ago. I'm better when I play in Free For All. When I play any other playlist, I'm very bad. I guess I need to improve my team play, but it seems that everyone is playing for himself without team play. I tried to follow a high level player to cover...

The register?

10:45 PM
yeah, that one
erm, jargon

SO particular Jargon?

in this case, the MW2 jargon
like 'playlist' being a gamemode

So, I've played MW2 a few times.
And I'm not familiar with the term playlist, but maybe I've glanced over it.
It seemed he was talking about play types, and that that would make the question more clear.

Team Deathmatch, Mercenary Team Deathmatch, Free-for-all, those are called playlists in-game

Hmm, interesting.

10:49 PM
even then, a simple google search can confirm or unconfirm your suspicion.

I think I still disagree.

?
How can you disagree with the names in the game?

While there is a Playlist called "Free For All" There are several other playlists that use the "free for all" play type.

no there aren't?

I beg your pardon?

10:50 PM
well
maybe in one of the combo packs

like the linked "Barebones Pro"
It's a Free-for-all play type, ne
?

that's a combination of TDM and FFA

Exactly

one of the two is picked randomly every match

FFA is a play type, one that is used in many of the different play lists.

10:51 PM
saying: "I'm bad at Barebones Pro" is useless
I definitely disagree with the word play type, since we're not performing plays here

game mode would even come closer...

Exactly. saying "Whenever I play any [non FFA] Playlists" also makes no sense.
because barebones is one of those types, and he probably has problems there

any MW2 player will know what playlist means unambiguously

Absolutely
I would know. I've clocked up 600+ hours

that's not possible if we make up our own arbitrary nomenclature

10:53 PM
And it makes less sense.
Game Mode, or play type. Those are kind of synonymous. And Play Type was closer to the original poster's message, so in respecting the original poster, I changed as little as possible.

they're certainly not.

I would definitely disagree there
gamemode isn't synonymous to playtype
play in that case means "a dramatic composition or piece"

Play type can refer to the way you play, or what type of player you are.

Playtype is also something that an MW2 player would have to think about
Playlist makes implicit sense

So, we're arguing semantics here.
I think playlist is slightly inferior in this case. But whatever.

10:57 PM
since you changed the semantics, yes we are

Well very simple semantics. I feel it doesn't make sense to replace in game jargon

also, 'multiplayer' is in the dictionary, it doesn't have to be edited

with 'perceived' jargon

(in-game jargon that is somewhat misleading?)
But fine, whatever.

it's less misleading than making something up

10:58 PM
fine.

Also @McKay, you might want to review your answers, as you have 3 pages of answers with 1 or less votes. Some of your answers are better suited for comments, and other are better when more detail is added. If you're unable to provide any detail, and are only answering with 1 or two lines of text, it is usually better to let someone else answer, and focus yourself on something you know, and can provide quality answers for.

okay
Wheton's rule?\

@tzenes: WP:NPA please!

11:18 PM
Hm
What would the correct tag for Magic: the Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers be?
2
Q: Building a deck in Magic The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers

akiraWhile playing around in "Magic The Gathering" via Steam I was wondering about how one builds his deck... Buying "online" cards? Obtaining more cards as bonus for completing the campaigns? Where come rare cards from?

as per that question

I believe that there are 2 games called Duels of the Planeswalkers
But the older one is much more obscure.

We use acronyms for other games

[magic-the-gathering] [duels-of-the-planeswalkers] [steam] due to engine limitations...

Mostly my concern is that it's really freaking long
will that fit?
Nope
'duels-of-the-planeswalkers' exceeds maximum tag length of 24

why was i thinking 26?

11:22 PM
Hrm
What should we do then?

then [magic-the-gathering] [steam]

There are the old MtG video games as well
as well as a new one coming out in 2011 or so

I must think of a better solution...

tagged with Steam
DotP is also out on XBLA too, so it's not the greatest solution... Hm.

MTG online will be [magic-the-gathering-online]

11:24 PM
MtG Tactics is the TBS that's supposed to be coming out
on PC and PS3

MtG is annoying, still have to sleeve 3K of cards...

yikes
I play sporadically
was pretty regular from Mirrodin through Time Spiral, but dropped off after that
before that I'd taken a 5 year break after Invasion
so much freakin money

I limit myself to a single booster pack, the intro boxes, and a single fat pack.
Altrough getting a Big Bag of (un)Commons from another players help too.
BTW: we should make a Gaming Stack Exchange Steam Group.
Allowing us to play against eachother easily!

Oooh good idea :D
and yeah I love the Fat Packs

11:54 PM
steamcommunity.com/groups/stackexchange (I'll be turning this over to @Jeff if he joins, and Officers should be mods on the site.)
