@DucatiKiller 14.3ft-lb difference on the torque with the FZ-09-07, pretty noticeable eh?

3:42 AM
@JonathanMusso yes, for sure
fz-07 50.2 ft/lbs torque
fz-09 65.0 ft/lbs torque
is what I googled
Looks like 23% more with the 09

@DucatiKiller They just introduced the FZ-10, with over 80ft-lbs of torque! haha

that's an older version R1 engine I think
It might have the big bang cross-plane crank
yeah, it's tuned down R1. Only a 160hp

Wtf is traction control on a bike?
:)

Generally speaking it rips your face off, that kind of power

haha
I would not know, never been on a bike that powerful.

3:46 AM
the new TC on these bikes has been developed in MotoGP
it works really good
w/ wheelie control

oh wow

oh....I wonder if it has launch control?
lol
those three, together. It's the holy trinity of acceleration. Dump the clutch, no wheelie, no wheel spin, just go

Lol I need to call my insurance before the weekend, f'n quotes online are like 6k a year.
We get destroyed in this province for insurance.

doesn't mention anti-wheelie or launch control in that article
back to the 07/09. That's a pretty big delta and you would feel the difference without question.
the torque delta

Q: Pros and cons lowering sedan?

Nathaniel DavidsonThanks to the community here I have successfully fixed my overheat problem, so I'm moving on to another problem...lowering the 95 camry. The method I'm planning on using to lower it is by adjusting the torsion key. Any cons to this method? And would like to know how the handling will be affect...

however, the fuel eco on the 07 seams to be much better
I read that lol
I wanted to answer "why?,,"

I'm sure it is but the pucker factor goes along with it.
LOL
Dude, it's a camry...

haha
my thoughts exactly

I think if you got the smaller one you would be asking yourself why 6 months later because you would want more power by then.
not that the 07 is slouchy

that's what I have been thinking

3:52 AM
That's still a lot of power when you consider the weight of the bike and the rider.
either one. lot a power

I will have to go check them both out, from what I have seen on YT the 07 is more comfortable for taller riders.

but I have tell you, it feels good to get on a freeway and roll on the power in second gear and have your front wheel just tapping the asphalt as you accelerate. Just sayin.

The car sink question. A couple of hours ago it had paid out 1150 Rep total and 9 badges.

3:57 AM
I'm kind of shocked that it worked.
or that it worked so good.

the activity is what did the trick I think

yeah, getting three responses the first hour shot it into the HNQ as more people piled on.......took on a life of it's own.

I think this is what he wants to do..

I guess when your young, broke and have a camry. What's a guy gonna do?

Just drive it and not worry about lowering it and putting rims on it.
lol I'll stop now

4:01 AM
LMAO
edit: I guess when your young, dumb, broke and have camry.....
that was great. misspelled dumb. oh sweet irony

hahaha
will I get banned for this

Q: I hear a click when i go to start my car... But starts up on second attempt

user16449Why is my 2009 chevy malibu doing this click before i start it up?

check my comment lol
LOL he/she actually responded.

oh dude
IMO, you should delete
I did lol though
Now you gotta help her
since she responded
:-)

Ok ok I deleted it lol

I hit the rep cap yesterday :)

9:42 AM
Hi all!
I've got a question to ask and I'm not sure it fits MV&R.
Basically I managed to crack a carbon fibre fork protector on my bike, and was wondering how I could go about fixing it.
I fear this might be off-topic for this site.

10:35 AM
Motorbike or pushbike? If it's a motorbike it's on topic
If it's a pushbike, there's a bicycles SE
ad if it's a motorised pushbike it's on topic on both sites ;)

Motorbike.
It's not a motor repair problem though. @NickC

11:05 AM
@JoErNanO I'd say it's totally on topic
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I believe you should now have a gold badge for the tag
@JoErNanO It's not motor repair, but it's certainly motor vehicle repair
@JoErNanO Plus, we have a body guy here in @JonathanMusso . I'm sure he will gladly oblige

@Zaid All right, I'm going to take some pictures tomorrow. Thanks.

Great!

2 hours later…
1:40 PM
@Zaid Sure thing!

1:56 PM
Interested to see the question and answer...

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I've flagged your comment as inappropriate. Wanker is simply over the line. — DucatiKiller Apr 7 at 0:13

2:17 PM
Did he make up the phrase "stepping on my wanker" because I've never heard that.

2:34 PM
hah, let's ask him. I've heard it before, though.

@Zaid - It hasn't popped yet, but it's showing 1000/1000 in my profile. I'm sure it takes something ... but you're right.
@JoErNanO - I absolutely agree with @NickC & @Zaid ... completely on topic (though I'm not the final arbiter or anything).
@Zaid - I'm actually a little bit thrilled about that badge ... lots of work went into getting it, and considering it's the first gold tag badge for Mech.SE, that makes it even more so!

You need to have 200 questions, too.
(At least, for a gold badge on SO).
I'm assuming it's the same here.
Ah, you're at 240

Hello @AlinPurcaru.
How's it going?

Hello! I'm just exploring. Trying to understand this chat interface.

Well, you came to a good room.
We're active, but it's not so crazy that you can't keep up.
You on a computer or mobile?

2:44 PM
I'm trying to decide if I like that SE added a chat at all. I was used to the initial style of SO which enforced rigor because discussions were discouraged.
I'm on a computer.

I can see that point, but honestly we just chat about random stuff here.
It's more of a hangout, and talking about questions people ask. There's not a lot of meaningful discussion that takes away from the Q/A process.

Then maybe I'll join from time to time to ask random stuff for my motorbike.

I think one of the main functions of this chat is helping to develop better questions and answers, in that respect, I think it's a real value add.

It's good to pop in and ask for details of a question if you're not sure what to ask,
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, exactly what I meant.
Maybe we know of a duplicate answer, or we can tell you how to phrase it better.
I didn't mean that we don't do anything useful in here :)

But the main webapp has functions for those things

2:49 PM
Even so, we still encourage people to ask question. It's definitely appreciated to come in here and ask if something is on/off topic before you post. I makes for a lot less hard feelings and also helps people feel a part of the community, I think.
That is until you get the feel for yourself what might be on/off topic.
@AlinPurcaru It does, but is rather clunky in the grand scheme of things.

@AlinPurcaru, note that some of the SE sites have pretty much vacant rooms, and others are so active it's hard to get a meaningful question in.

We appreciate whatever level of participation anyone can provide. Love new questions.
@JPhi1618 - Oh, definitely agree with that.

I'm out. Have a nice weekend! I'll be riding ~600km the following days and hopefully I won't be back on Monday with questions for fixing stuff.

Awesome! see you later!

This seems like a shopping question ... thoughts?

Man, he even clicked the "leave" button.

I thought that it wasn't very related, not great for the site.

@Federico - Welcome :D

I actually meant to ask about it as well.

It could become dated very quickly, IMHO.

3:01 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 hi, just passing by to see if there were any Binky fans around. The search box said "yes" :D

Now that you mention it, I think "shopping" is a good label.

@Federico - I love the BOM Guys!

Lost me at Binky.

Bad Obsession Motorsports ... they are building an AWD ... yah, that's it.

3:02 PM
Ah, ok.

@JPhi1618 - If you haven't watched it, you'll love it.

I don't get a chance to watch as many posted vids as I would like.

The fabrication these guys are doing is just awesome.

Nice.

The stupid donor vehicle is almost completely rebuilt with new steel all the way around.
Absolutely amazing. They've been working on it now for the past 2.5 years ... I think their name "Obsession" really covers it, lol.
@Federico - Did that answer your question :o)

3:05 PM
yes :D

I was really glad they pumped out their latest video, but 4 months is a long time to wait!!!

now I know that if I don't understand something in the video, I can drop by here :D

Yes ... they can be hard to understand ;-)
haha
Yes, please do stop by. There are several Binky fans here, besides me.
I'm pretty sure @RoryAlsop and @Zaid are both fans. Not sure if @DucatiKiller is. If @JonathanMusso isn't a fan, I'll need to kick his butt! He's our resident fabricator/body guy.

now was just a quick drive-by, but I will return for sure! :)

@Federico - Kewlio! We'll enjoy having you!

3:08 PM
Good to see you @Federico.

But don't wait four months until the next video, lol!

3:22 PM
You still writing articles @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2?

@JPhi1618 - Yes. I'm now writing Acura how-tos
I wrote a bunch of Audi ones, mainly on the A4, but a couple for the A6 (IIRC).
I'm wondering what's next.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 It's an accomplishment you deserve

@Zaid - Thank you kind sir.

funnily enough one of my top tags is
Erm, lol

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 My butt will be out the door! Never have I seen the Binky :P

3:27 PM
Do you get to pick at all or are they assgined?

@JonathanMusso - Take a look ... you'll be hooked!!!
@JPhi1618 - They are assigned, but if it's something I'm not comfortable with, I can send them back for reassignment.
@Zaid - I think it's my #2 tag, lol!
Actually it's #7, but not by much. They are all in the mid 200's.
need a few more clicks to get silver tag badges there.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Ty for the link, I will start from the beginning.

@JonathanMusso you're not going to regret watching it

For those who don't travel internationally very often, USA customs and border control has really improved.

You can skip about the first minute of every episode ... that gets boring after the first episode.

3:34 PM
Lol

@BobCross - Hey! Good to see you.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Yeah - voting to close:

Soo, if I cannot get this guy from Massachusetts’ to ship a the only doors I could find for the '31 Pontiac in all of NA, looks like I will have to build it from scratch.

@BobCross I hope you are not being facetious.

@BobCross Hello sir! How was your trip?

3:35 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 not at all. USA side and Australian were almost identical.

Finally home now Bob?

@Zaid Look forward to it, you have linked some other great videos in here before that I never have seen before...Roadkill I think it was?

@JonathanMusso - If anyone could do it, I'm sure you're up to the task!

@JPhi1618 nope. Just arrived lax. Still have a country to cross.

@JonathanMusso - Roadkill is awesome, though I think they sort of sold out.

3:35 PM
That's what I was worried about :(
Sorry man! Almost there.

At least you are through customs, which can be a big PITB.
Must be time to get lunhc.
lunch.

@JPhi1618 no biggie dude. These flights are a hop and a skip.

I need more caffeine ... Diet Mt Dew here I come! Woot!
:D

@BobCross, yea, but those long trips on planes... Sitting down all that time.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 that's what I'm saying. Hit the APC kiosk, chat with border control, wave to customs and ... Go back through security because you can't just connect from international anymore

3:39 PM
@BobCross - They should just run you on through ... don't they know you're Dr. Bob Cross??? ... the nerve of those people.

The chats were actually close to that. Good police work sounds a lot like polite chatting. ;-)

Sounds like they are learning something from the Israelis
That's exactly how you profile people.

Maybe. I've heard about those guys. They have a plan.

Changed the title of the "Vehicle Spotting device" because that's not what the question was about at all.

3:54 PM
That could be a translation issue maybe

Right, I'm sure it was.
I think most people that clicked on it expected a different question.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, What do you think about changing a title like this to make it less specific?

Q: On a BMW E46 330Ci, is it necessary to pull the handbrake lever when you're in 'P' mode?

Johnny TranMy flatmate drives a 2001 BMW E46 330Ci automatic transmission. I sat next to him while he drove us to the supermarket. When we arrived, I noticed that he only put the gear lever into 'P' and switch off the engine. I reminded him that he has not pull up his handbrake lever yet and he says there i...

4:09 PM
@JPhi1618 - Are you suggesting taking the make/model information out of the title?

That software rec question needs one more cv, for anyone interested in being the last vote.
cough mod cough

I never like seeing the make/model info in the title, but presumed it was more of a personal thing.
I believe the Make/Model info should be tags. Year is mainly irrelevant in the tags.
I'm also wondering with BMW's, if the "E46" would be far more pertinent in the tags than would something like "330Ci". IIRC, the E46 spells out the model for certain years, which is far more descriptive and compact than would be year/model information separately. I personally would have to look up to see what exact model something is, but it would pinpoint it for everyone involved.
Just me rambling.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 When the became sponsored by Dodge?

@JonathanMusso About 4-5 months ago? They are now showing the "new" episodes on MotorTrend YouTube channel (which is a pay per month channel), then they display out on regular YouTube a month later. Just tweaks me the wrong way.
It's kind of opposite of how they started and what they were about in the beginning.

4:24 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Ah, gotcha. I have only seen maybe 3 episodes tops, so I don't know.
Sounds like Harley, sellouts!

I thought the first Dodge sponsored episode was a complete waste of time.
It had absolutely nothing to do with Roadkill.

Ahh, I will have to check it out.

I love when they take an old beast, wrench on it for a while, make it work (for a minute), then drive it some stupid way which gets them broke down on the side of the road. Pitting three brand new Dodge vehicles against each other was completely stupid.
Anyway, I'm going to hang it up until later. I should actually be doing work, lol.

Yeah I like that stuff too, I think you and @Zaid sent me one about the 68 Camaro. They installed new style suspension on it.

4:27 PM
Cheers bud

Absolutely ... good chattin' with you.

You as well.

5:21 PM
Hey @cdunn. Wuzzup?

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 yo
hey @cdunn

Hey @JPhi1618 All sort of goodness my friend how are you?

Dude, you're late. Paulster bounced.

dudes been allusive

I'm great. Three badges today and a wholotta rep.

Hey @DucatiKiller how's my favorite Arizonan, Arizonian?

Bad answer in DIY is killing it (relatively).

So prety much like every day in modern life?

cdunnThe way to calculate the gallons per mile is as follows: Fill your tank to full and note the mileage Drive till the tank is down to about 1/3 Keep the driving to the kind you would normally do, or you will effect the results. Go back and fill the car up to full again, and note the mileage an...

That's funny

Just resist the urge to stick your hands into the middle of them to make them stop

@JPhi1618 what did you get the badges from?

5:24 PM
well, it doesn't really belong, but I wanted to help the guy out

That question @cdunn....
Quite an answer for that.

lol, yeah, I think he's a little confused...

I think 5mpg is a little shy of reality... not to mention the 40-60 gal tank.. lol

And a sliver for getting +25 on the escape question.

5:25 PM
what the hell is he driving? lol

Liters maybe?

i saw that! That question got voted to the moon

I got 5 badges from the escape question

Says gallons specifically

5
unreal

5:26 PM
Wow.

ikr lol

1 for my answer 4 for the question

So was this the experiment you guys were talking about yesterday?

yes
We 'hacked' the HNQ
lol

cool, what did you find out with the experiment?

5:27 PM
if you have a few people pile on quickly with answers. It shoots the question in
from there, it has hotness points. You can keep hotness points up by adding and answer every few hours.

Sweet, we might have to do that to get us noticed :)

last time I checked it had 15 answers

Want another one? lol

other activity such as comments and edits keep it hot
as well as voting
and views
I"m not sure I want to abuse the knowledge frequently.
BUT....go for it, I'll happily add an answer right away. Just get someone else to be able follow up with me.
It'll shoot it into the HNQ and then....rep train

No no, not too often, just often enough to keep us in a simmer, wasn't thinking of trying for a boil...

5:29 PM
lol
It was a fun experiment
many lulz
@JPhi1618 It's still in the HNQ
car sinking

Sounds like it, always good to poke at the edges of things, see where they are

36 Hotness Points

And one more answer :)
Not exactly a lot of original content in that answer, but I tried to come at it from a slightly different angle.. Not sure I got there... lol
Now at 15 answers lol

nice. that will keep it in the feed.

@DucatiKiller Hey bro. I am gonna go take a look at the 390 Duke tomorrow. There is one in black!

5:40 PM
@DucatiKiller No problem at all, always up for helping with an experiment or to help someone in need of the rep train :)

@JonathanMusso, like this?

@JPhi1618 Yoo. I am not sure if it is black on black or orange on black. I don't like the white tanks, though.
I'll snap a pic either way.

Cool, I dig the orange on black too.
Looks like a fun bike.

Seems like the cantilevered rear wheel is a common design thing now. is it really or am I just happen to see the ones that have it. Whats the advantage of the cantilevered rear wheel?

@JPhi1618 Aye, all the reviews have been favorable.

5:44 PM
@JonathanMusso love the KTM's.

@cdunn, Maybe faring covers it up more on a lot of bikes so you don't notice?
Of course I'm not sure what the alternative to cantilevered is - not totally sure what you mean.

@JonathanMusso It's the frame for me. I love the trellis.

@DucatiKiller Aye it looks sweet.

like Ducati's

Well, cantilevered just means supported only on one end (just making sure I have that right, so confirming I'm not asking the wrong question). And having the rear wheel just hanging out seems like an odd design choice so I was wondering what I was missing

5:47 PM
@cdunn Yes. They've moved away from the fancy linkage and floating shocks and migrated to cantilever over the last decade or so.

@DucatiKiller Friend of mine use to drive her Ducati all year, just put a side car on it in winter.. In New England, that's dedication.. lol

That's commitment...respect

Oh ok.. What is better about the cantilever design?

That's a good question. If you throw into the mix I'll research that. I honestly don't know. There is a belief that me and some friends have that it's because it's simplier but that is crap answer.

To give you an idea how long it's been for me, the last bikes I knew anything about had spoked wheels... lmao

5:48 PM
@cdunn Amazing, how cold does it get there?

...and no engines....like Fred Flinstone, right?

@cdunn Spoked, the only way to go! What kind of bikes? :D

Well, parts count, simplicity, and cost could be the answer, but I'll throw it up as a question :)
Honda touring bikes in the early 80's
CB750

....and I call myself a motorcycle guy.....

wicked

5:50 PM
@DucatiKiller There were engines, long as you count the hampster wheel and the rubber band... :)

lol
CB750...aces....every version. Love 'em

And the early 80's the Comstar wheels had just come out.. My friend needed them after laying his 750 down at just over 100mph... he was fine except for some flattened crash bars, and a case of road rash..
He was wearing one the down vests that were so popular then.. Had a helix of goose feathers following him home... lmao
The crash was because the chain began to oscillate and then the bike began to do the same.. rest wasn't pretty
but he said he went to roll over afterwards and realized he was actually airborn after bouncing on the pavement...
@DucatiKiller Don't get me wrong, I don't know jack about motorcyles. After my friends crash, and my near crash on my Yamaha i put them down in the early 80's and haven't gone back.. Thinking it might be time though..

I've had that happen to me a couple of times
speed wobble crash

A couple of times? lol

frame geometry, better bearings/races and steering dampeners have really mitigated that risk

5:55 PM
Kudos man

Ah! technology is a good thing. Most of the time :)

yeah, once in 86 at a track and another time in 91 on back roads.

Q: Motorcycle Speed Wobble - How do I figure out the problem?

PpoggioI have a 2005 GSXR 600. I took it for a test drive and the head shakes around 65mph or so and then goes away when I go past that. It's worse when I'm slowing down without the front brake. When I slow down with the front brake it's more stable. I have an Ohlins steering dampener that came with...

Yo @rpmerf.

Yikes! I was kind of turned off to motorcycle racing after doing a cleanup walk at Loudon one year. There was motorcycle debris everywhere after a weekend of racing..

5:58 PM
@LynnCrumbling I am typically only on this site while I'm at work. Think I'd spend too much time in there while I should be working. I spend too much time here as it is. — rpmerf 35 secs ago
Yay, you stopped by anyway :)

If the track is safe, Loudon isn't IMO, racing can be pretty safe. I'll make the claim that it's safer than football without any citation to back it.

@rpmerf Just minimize our window :)

@LynnCrumbling that's far too simple. It'll never work

Hahaha
I bugged rpmerf to drop by.
