My degree is more oriented toward applied side of mathematics. But I want to switch to pure maths after completing my degree. Are you a student?

so have you already studied any DG prior to this reading group ?

I've done a course in DG. We followed Do Carmo's Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces (about half of the book.)

I got interested and am currently reading Spivak Vol 1.

yes, we followed Lee and Do Carmo mostly.

Spivak is a really nice textbook.

I hear Spivak mentioned often when recommending textbooks, so I can imagine it's nice

but I can't say I didn't enjoy reading Lee either :)

But I haven't tried reading Lee. I intend to read vol 2 in near future. This makes me stick to Spivak vol 1.

Morning. I have obtained a copy of the text, Version 3.0 December 31, 2000. Is this the version you have access to?

Does it cost much? A university had a copy of the one I have freely available.

@RobertCardona: I read them in that order, but I think in principle you can also do smooth manifolds with just a basic knowledge on manifolds.

Do you guys have any more reading groups?

I'm taking a course on differential geometry right now. So I know the basics.

But I've been jumping around from book to book just picking up the details I need

@RobertCardona: I have one on Einsiedler's functional analysis notes, but I think Julian dropped it and it doesn't really work just with 2 people in total.

I decided to dig in with Loring Tu's book to get a good overview and it's been going well.

@RobertCardona: I think there's also one on reddit on babyrudin, but I never read that and don't intend to in the near future.

I'm looking forward to this one though. There are a lot of people from reddit and MSE already who are interested and even if half of them drop it, we have enough people to have interesting discussions regularly.

If it works out well, I'll probably organize more.
