Q: Choice of Lewis Acid for EAS reaction

Jonathan SmithWhy is AlCl3 or FeCl3 might be preferred for chlorination reactions and AlBr3 or FeBr3 for bromination reactions? Why not use AlCl3 for bromination reactions? Source: https://www.masterorganicchemistry.com/2011/07/22/reagent-friday-aluminum-chloride-alcl3/

@LinearChristmas Why do you use \pu for this? :-(

@Loong a combination of laziness and visual similarity, I guess

I see.

\pu is much less tedius than \mathrm and \text :D
even though they are meant for different purposes
output is, for subscripts at least, dead similar
does it load more slowly, or is it more of a comment on proper usage due to the intent of introducing \pu in the first place (i.e. for physical units)?

I guess, it is first of all the use of such tools for the intended purpose.

Is that a German thing, or a @Loong thing?

And I also guess that the unnecessary use of such macros that could be replaced with standard expressions doesn't make things faster.
@LinearChristmas Might be a @Loong thing. ;-)

@Loong maybe @mhchem (assuming they have visited chat) can clarify on this point
also why isn't \mathrm condensable into \mm or something

\pu could also limit the transferability since the mhchem extension is not installed everywhere

That's a valid point; it's also unlikely that \pu will be added elsewhere because other packages exist for units
though I have come across sites where \text does not work either

Q: Calculate the cathode electrode potential in this redox reaction

Jose Lopez GarciaIn this problem I'm asked to calculate the electrode potential of the magnesium electrode ($E_{Mg^{2+}/Mg}$) given the red-ox reaction:$$\text{Mg(s)}+2\text{Ag}^+(10^{-2}\text{M})\leftrightarrow 2\text{Ag(s)}+\text{Mg}^{2+}(10^{-2}\text{M})$$ The information I'm given is: Temperature equal to ...

@AvatarShiny After your edit this zwitterion question is still bad and probably was kicked off of review queue...

@Mithoron Ahh well he did get two up votes though. I didn't know that every question is reviewed, or that if I proposed an edit and it got accepted it would be kicked off the queue.

Just a FYI... Don't superglue cotton pants while wearing them.

@Loong How come chat on beta site is full of people? For a moment I thought you liked chat on meta.se o.0

6:45 PM
Well, I guess people feel like they can contribute to IPS.

I don't. Although I might have questions.

Maybe higher interpersonal skills = more talkative ;)

But being on the Internet = antisocial loner.

Aren't we all?

Probably

hey all!
@orthocresol I'm on the internet, but I'll talk your ears off in person

Q: What are the review queues, and how do they work?

ManishearthI see a "review" link on the top of the page, which takes me to a few "review queues". What is a "review queue"? What are the various queues for? What can I do in each queue? Return to FAQ index
