@PhMgBr No, I'm pretty sure they meant is an excellent nucleophile, because it is. Better than hydroxide.
Also don't worry, I won't forget the @orthobounty.

@Jan Shrug
Some Wikipedians are NNS. Prone to errors in English

Jan
Yeah, I know what you mean. Take everything from there with two grains of salt. But occasionally they are right by accident ;)

No, I mean they're good chemists, but perhaps less than ideal communicators.
Also this prolly means you're a Wikipedian too @Jan.

Jan
@CowperKettle Russian chemistry will get shot down by the SE team as any different-language-SE site would that isn't a foreign-language SO introduced by the team itself.
@PhMgBr Used to be. Like ten years ago.

Tries to figure out if he was born ten years ago

Jan
6:07 PM
Oh my god in so many ways …
1) The internet is old enough that I can say ten years ago;
2) I am old enough to be able to say ten years ago.
I must be old .__.

A considerable portion of your avatar is white.
You should panic.

There is nothing complicated about it. A salt formed by a strong acid and a weak base will make the solution acidic due to hydrolysis. — Ivan Neretin 9 mins ago

Yay for simplifications.
I did suspect people won't choose to dig in a lot. CC @Brian

@PhMgBr I already have a bunch of lit turned up about Cu(II)-SO4[2-] and Cu(II)-HSO4[-] stability constants.
They're weak, but appreciable

@Brian Tell you what, if you want that question to turn into what you want it to turn into, you should coordinate it by adding a comment or what.

6:15 PM
@PhMgBr Oh, <nod>, I'm there.
And will probably not be able to help but write my own answer.

Waves at Brian
Dammit
The day there's also a @Brain user in chat is the day I die.

They'll get a lot of confusing pings. :-)

@Jan He knows he's only being loved because of this.

I wonder if CuSO4 will always hydrate to CuSO4*5H2O

It's like an outrage thing.

@manshu no worries, i sleep very little
^ no grammar in this sentence

@DeNiSkA ERROR 469 : No grammar found.

And no punctuation.

6:44 PM
Hey @Jan, can I get your opinion on something?

@DeNiSkA My birthday is tomorrow and I wish I was turning 16.

Jan
@ringo Course you can*
*: I reserve the right to not have an opinion on a number of subjects.

I'm writing an explanation as to why oxygen is paramagnetic. Do you think it would be important to mention why its MOs are they way they are?

Jan
@CowperKettle The pentahydrate is the most stable hydrate so yeah.

@pentavalentcarbon you mean 05:05:16

6:46 PM
@DeNiSkA Is it already the 5th where you are? No, I mean the 4th.

Jan
@ringo I think it wouldn't hurt to know the basic principle but you can certainly go too far ;) I would probably include a note or two, but I wouldn't hold back an upvote if it's not there.

Thanks
I just don't want to murder them with MO theory if its not necesary

@ringo For whom?

1
Q: Why is oxygen paramagnetic?

OkaParamagnetic molecules are molecules that have single electrons. When I draw the lewis structure of $\ce{O2}$, it appears to be a diamagnetic structure. What makes it paramagnetic?

@pentavalentcarbon my birthday is on 4th and here it is 12AM

6:47 PM
I wanna be murdered with MO theory! :'(

!!murder/PhMgBr

@DeNiSkA Ah, ok. I have to wait another 9 hours.

Jan
Thanks, I know your timezone now, @Den x3
Thanks, I know your timezone @penta x3

@Jan haha

6:48 PM
I'll just murder them anyways >:D

Thanks, we all know your timezone now, @Jan

We knew it before...

@orthocresol Should I go ask about B6H6 now?
@ringo Murder them. This site isn't for a single user, for everyone that can benefit.

I have 0 idea what that compound is. I was actually googling for B6H6(2-) which is a prototypical example of a borane, but google images gave me that diagram.

A troll on Travel keeps flagging chat messages, beware.

@orthocresol I can't make out the structure in my mind

Jan
I hated the borane nomenclature, it was so hard to remember but part of an exam D=

@orthocresol And B6H6?

@PhMgBr Not sure if it exists
@Jan youtube.com/watch?v=Miolj88x-fU pardon the squeaking

6:59 PM
It's just his harp seal

Wow you guys have to check out ortho's other video though!

Goes without saying.

Stars without saying.

@Jan I'm not sure which country allows chemical-animal marriages though :D

Jan
That was the best commercial for a MacBook Pro I've seen to date *___* <3

@orthocresol North Antarctica

Jan
Really didn't fit in well with the Korpiklaani I was listening to before, but w/e.

YOU KNOW WHAT? SCREW IT
BEEN TRYING TO EDIT A POST AND IT'S EDITED FIVES TIMES SINCE YOU BEGAN
OK now I feel better

Jan
I know how you feel.

@Martin-マーチン I wasn't trying to be rude, I've just never seen it taught any other way

@Mart he wasn't trying to be rude! !!flip

Jan
@Loong Did you and Em1 answer within seconds of each other? =D

(ノ ̄◇ ̄)ノ~┻━┻/(×。×)

7:30 PM
@Jan yes, about 11 seconds

@ringo I understand that. I have seen the rules of Hückel abused so many times, that it really drives me to the wrong side.

Could you show me a resource that might set me straight then?
If you have one in mind

Jan
@Mart um, seeing that you're here, I was hoping to have a little chat with you (in a more confined chatroom) about postdocs and stuff; when would be a good time?
@Loong What a shame that none of you thought it interesting enough to give me an upvote Y__Y
I guess you were about to close it for general reference Y___Y

goez to sleep. Night

@Jan I did not read the question; I just answered. ;-)

Jan
7:36 PM
Good night iodosodiumgrignard o/

@Jan "hat sich nicht gekannt"?

Jan
@Loong Likely a typo and should have been sie … lemme check.
Yup.
Edit that when you add the missing comma while you're at it ;)

@Jan my spellchecker doesn't like your "Nunja" and proposes "Ninja" :-D

@ringo I have been trying to find a good publication about aromaticity for a long time, but have not yet been able to. There are also no good translations of the initial publication of Hückel's calculations. The goldbook summarises the setup quite well though. Just note that this set of rules is only related to aromaticity. I found a couple of papers, that I can link to later, but right now I am on vacation.

Oh I see
Enjoy yourself!

Jan
7:44 PM
Enjoy your holiday @Mart!
@Loong =D

@PhMgBr I did not become British, but if you look closely, you will find that I use the British spelling more often than the American, because I learned the former in school.
@Jan I will be back at the office next week and will be monitoring chat more closely. You can find me in the g-block then.

Jan
@Martin-マーチン Gotcha o/
I'm off, enjoy the night o/
