@ron Maybe. My life's route is going that way.
So it'd be a profession along those lines.
ron
ron
Is chemistry your favorite subject in school?
"I also am a professional™ reviewer at chem.SE." I'd write in my CV.
@ron Yes, by a large margin!
I also love linguistics.
Especially English.
ron
ron
I wish I had paid more attention to the various badges earlier on.
@ron Like which ones?
ron
ron
With over 800 questions answered, I should have worked earlier for the illuminator badge
19:04
Han.
Well, badges aren't that important. Especially when someone's ron.
I wish I could answer questions ;_;
Sometimes I'm like "I should be able to answer that... but I can't :("
I found out that I'm much more edit-moderate-vote-meta material than answer-question material.
ron
ron
It's the questions that brought me here, but things have changed here in the last 2+ years. I suppose thats normal.
For instance, I wrote an answer to this meta post in five minutes:
1
Q: Is the minimum five character edit limit useful?

JavaLatteI sometimes see a clear, well-framed question with one tiny but glaring error, for example "have" instead of "had" or "loosen" instead of "looser". It's a good question, but a good answer is going to have to compete with a lot of nit picking. I can't just fix the error because of the minimum five...

I could've never done that in a main site post.
@ron It is, and actually we're doing a pretty good job fighting the inevitable.
What you, as a high rep user should do is to get used to filtering questions so only the interesting ones catch your eye.
Work with favorite and ignored tags @ron. Especially ignored tags.
ron
ron
Yes, but there are just so few "interesting" organic questions these days.
19:08
Even some searches help. Votes:5.. hasanswers:0
ron
ron
good point
@ron Good thing is that we don't run short on material. You can even try the "unanswered" tab.
ron
ron
@Hippalectryon I remember that one, I hadn't heard of the Mozingo rxn.
I'm also very interested in an answer to that one, which doesn't seem that hard (I mean for someone who knows about the theory)
19:10
The site is one year into graduation. From now on, you have to get used to bad questions being posted every day hour minute @ron.
Some people can't do that, and lose interest in the site.
@IͶΔ Bad questions ? uh ? what are you talking about ? :P seriously though, it's true that since last year I see way more badly formatted/lacking motivation questions
ron
ron
Yes, sometimes I feel close to walking away.
Some people come up with creative ways to remove them from sight.
Some people start rep farming and answer the worst questions.
Some people spend their time moderating more.
I'm on the last group.
You should all be on the second.
@ron Shog9 is a respected community manager. He wrote something very nice the other day when a user was quitting the site.
Lemme find it
:( I'm on the group of those who see lots of midly interesting questions and are ashamed they can't answer them, but can't improve either because no one answers them :(
ron
ron
@Hippalectryon Maybe a bounty would help?
19:15
@ron I'd need lots of rep. There are many such questions every day. They might not be very interesting to users quite knowledgeable like you, but they are to me.
And unlike on MathSE, I can't really farm any reputation here; I'm not good enough yet. And I'd hate to give false answers.
ron
ron
Now you have 5 more points for the Mozingo question.
BBL dinner
45 to go for a bounty :-)

@IͶΔ Later
@Hippalectryon Are you in college?
@ron French equivalent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…
And Chemistry is my weakest subject :( I find it very interesting though
ron
ron
19:19
What do you like to study?
Maths, physics, chemistry
ron
ron
ah, so you like science
Well, I'm in the PC section (Physics-Chemistry, as opposed to MP Maths-Physics) section after all (we still have a lot of maths though)
We mainly do maths, phys and chem, and we also have some French and English
@ron read up from here:
in The Comms Room, Apr 15 '15 at 4:10, by Shog9
@Wesley if I might offer some advice... If this stuff - the questions, the community - if it starts to get to you that way, take a break. This should be fun; something you do for the love of the topic, of the profession, in hope of building resources that are better than the ones you had to learn from. If it isn't fun any more, stop doing it.

I have traveled to France many times. Paris is one of the great cities of the world. For a while I once lived in western Germany, we would cross the border to France to eat good food.
19:25
I'm in Paris yay \o/
And I've got my big exams in 30 days :(
ron
ron
Assuming you do well in the exams, what happens next?
@IͶΔ Yes, the message is very on target
My goal is to get accepted into one of the ENS (ens.fr/a-propos/l-ecole/?lang=en Paris's ENS, in ENglish)
ron
ron
@Hippalectryon world class!
I just hope I'm able to bridge the gap in chemistry in those 30 days haha :-)
ron
ron
@Hippalectryon Now you have me interested in the Mozingo rxn, when I leave chat I'll see what I can find.
19:29
Thanks !
ron
ron
@IͶΔ It is still fun to answer a question. It is just that there aren't as many "good" questions as there used to be. Back then everyday had multiple exciting questions. So I have turned some of my attention to site maintenance. Just not like the "old" days, but again, change is a natural part of the process. Maybe it will change back. I remember when @Martin-マーチン would post a lot too. His posts always make for good reading (and learning).
@Hippalectryon OK, I'm off to see what I can find on Mozingo!
@ron It won't change back to the old days, but it will go back to close.
@ron Alright, thanks a lot
When a site's famous, many experts visit and post. When a site's not famous, there are experts who devote themselves to run it, so experts visit and post. Chem is in the middle. It's not that famous. If you give it some time @ron, this site will get more eminent and good posts will start popping up again, but this time among a sea of bad ones.
Make yourself ready for then, so you won't lose the expert posts.
@IͶΔ What's the policy towards questions that require one line answers btw ? like this one
19:37
@Hippalectryon Answer that what?
derp, fixed
@Hippalectryon The policy is that the last comment should be an answer.
Give it more fluff, embolden the real point.
Then get the points.
I'm not sure what there is to add to my comment though :-)
@Hippalectryon just add c = n/V
